My rooted sph-l720 will not boot!! Please help!! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I rooted with CF-auto method, phone worked fine. I downloaded CWM Rom Manager and downloaded CWM Recovery through the app. I decided to try and flash TRiforce 5.4 as my first ROM. Selected to back up everything and wipe clean with a full install. Towards the end There was a fatal error. It said it needed to be rebooted. I clicked reboot now. It said something about AROMA installer. Then rebooted. It showed the Galaxy s4 logo, then went black. I waited and waited and waited. And nothing happened. I tried pressing power and nothing would happen. I eventually pulled the battery out and reinserted. Upon pressing power, the same thing. It would show Galaxy s4 logo then go to black. I thought perhaps my battery died during install. Tried plugging in to A/C adapter and the battery logo pops up but the circle that usually continues to flow in a circle just freezes and does not flow. No light turns on to indicate charging. If I unplug the charger it is still frozen on the same charge screen. I popped my battery into a friends s4 and it charges fine, and is still at about 50% power. I've tried vol up+home+power, vol down+home+power and they both get the same results, just the galaxy s4 logo, then black screen. No booting whatsoever. Does this mean my phone is now bricked?:crying:
edit, vol down+ power has just gotten me into download mode! I guess I'll download a stock rom tomorrow and flash it via odin. Sucks because i don't have internet at my house. I'm at the library right now... 15 hours to dl stock rom lol...

What about volume up + power? if recovery boots you can try to flash in that otherwise you are stuck trying to use odin

Try going into recovery mode again by pressing get down the volume down and home button than finally the power button. The phone should vibrate and then as soon as the Samsung logo comes out let go of the buttons or else the phone will reboot again. Time it right so it goes into recovery

Have you fixed this issue, volume up +home+power is recovery mode, volume down+home+power is to download mode then u press up to complete

Rezzing old thread, I know. But I'm leaving this here in case anyone is poking around for clues to their s4 not powering on.
I have one that does not power on, as in bo combination of "press this and that..." is going to work (as if that isnt the first step in troubleshooting...I know not everyone does it right, but its really annoying when any post mentioning no power on/not responding to any key presses or charger plugin is full of "just try harder to boot it" posts..... Anyways...) The power pins register about half a volt, surging around from 100mV to ~3V . The battery does not charge and there us a constant slowly draining voltage on the power pins while unplugged and no battery.
The only clue Ive found so far us a youtube video of a no power on S4 having its power IC replaced which fixed it. Unfortunately I dont have the tools currently to try it, so at least mine, is still dead in the water.....

[Q] Device turns on for a second after inserting battery, won't turn on otherwise

My phone abruptly turned off while I am using it under charge.
I promptly attempted to restart it through pressing the power button, but had absolutely no response.
Then I tried replacing the battery and the phone device on normally right away, with the Galaxy S4 logo shown as usual, but turns off after a second of the logo display.
Attempted getting into both the download and the recovery mode, no response.
Anybody know what's the issue here? Phone has been rotted and flashed with SlimBean ROM, it has no issues leading up to the event today. Please help!
Update: I tried accessing download and recovery mode as soon as I inserted battery into the phone.
It would have the loading screen as soon as the buttons are pressed, but the device still turns off after a second as usual.
Is it hard bricked?

Your s4s power button is fine?cuz my s4 doesn't power on with only inserting battery.try to put it on charge for 15 min. And then try to go download or recovery mode.if it does boot to recovery while charging then it will boot up normal.and make sure to use original charger and cable.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
Download or recovery mode doesn't happen when I try pressing the power buttons, however when I insert the battery while pressing the power+volume up button, the phone will go into those modes, but will turn off promptly in a few seconds.

Soft bricked my T280 and so confused!!

I recently updated my Samsung Galaxy Tab A T280 to the latest firmware and I lost my root. So this afternoon I re-rooted it. Or I attempted to, anyway. Everything seemingly went fine, and I booted into TWRP just fine. I went to flash the ROM and I also selected wipe cache/davlik cache to be done as well, and tapped reboot. My device then turned off and when it started the reboot, it got stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A logo screen and would not move or power off by holding the power button (I tried for a LONG time by using a rubber band to hold it down so I didn't have to, with no luck), and every other combination of buttons wouldn't do a thing, except for holding power + vol down, which made it turn off and back on, but it wouldn't finish rebooting and it just got stuck at the Samsung Galaxy Tab A logo again. So then I thought that maybe plugging it into a charger might not be a bad idea, and after holding down power + vol down again, it turned off and turned on and showed a battery with a charging symbol. I've had it plugged in for an hour and it does not show a charge or do anything except for go back to that boot logo if I unplug it from the charger and again hold down power and volume down separately.
I know it's not hard bricked because it is somewhat responsive so I think there's a chance to fix it, hopefully. I just want it to turn on and fully reboot into anything or in any way that will allow me to be able to fix the issue. My computer will not recognize the device so ADB is not an option right now unless I'm wrong.
Thanks a lot guys, I am so confused and could really use some advice.
What firmware did you install
Try to install original firmware via software "Samsung Smart Switch" on your PC with connected tablet.
I too recommend that you try installing the last firmware that you were on via Odin. Also, when you hit that screen lock issue after a firmware flash, where only the Samsung logo appears do this:
1. press and hold Home + volume up and volume down along with power button (that's all 4 buttons). Hold it there for at least 20 seconds and it should power off.
2. Once the device powers off keep holding the buttons but let go of the volume down button.
3. Once the tablet starts to power back up again release the power button and then in about 1 to 2 second release the rest of the buttons.
This should get you back into recovery. You should at least be able to restore any backup, that you should have already, on your external micro SD.
Good luck.. : )
"Chance Favors the Prepared"
the above post is 100% right. Reboot back into recovery and you'll be good to go. Also twrp has a option to reboot back to recovery so this doesn't happen, just a fyi for future knowledge. Best of luck..
You tried to flash a rom with twrp?
You need to flash stock firmware with odin.

Phone bricked... Totally...

Hello all. Since nougat update my phone has started having boot up issues. I had software update a month ago and after it was updated it failed to boot up. It just froze on Samsung logo screen and i had to wait for the battery to drain to start it again. So that time it started after a good few tries. Now last night it had another software update and again after it was finished it rebooted and failed to boot up. Gets stuck on logo screen/ samsung screen. I tried booting in safe mode.. nothing ... gets stuck again on black screen and have to wait for battery to drain. When it gets stuck i can't do anything not even reboot with any of the buttons. I've tried going into recovery mode but once it boots in recovery it shows Installing System Update or something simmilar and in 1 second gets stuck untill battery is drained again. So basically i can't do anything on it. It won't boot up in normal/safe mode or recovery mode... Any suggestions ? I've tried samsung switch on my PC but it needs the phone into recovery mode and i can't get this far. What else is there to do ?
I managed to get it into download mode and flash a new stock firmware... It installed without error and when the phone boot and apply the updates then rebooted again and still go stuck after Galaxy S7 Edge Logo. Got past that and froze on the SAMSUNG logo. After that just blue LED and black screen... Can't switch it off now , gotta wait for it to drain the battery...

It doesn't work. Once it gets stuck nothing works. I've tried everything.
It just freezes completely... Vol Down + Power doesn't work either when it freezes...
Wish they made phones like before so you can just take the battery out...

Galaxy S7 edge won't turn ON and no charging indications

Hi
My phone was stuck at black screen with blue LED light. I waited for it to drain completely, and then charge it so I can flash new firmware. I enter download mode, flash new firmware and it was a success. It restarts and then stuck again on blue screen with Android robot and some like no signal tv effects on the screen, which I think it crashed. Then I forced restart it using vol down+power and it boots up with blue screen wtih "no command" error. I tried restarting it again and it fully dies on me. It won't turn on again.
Button combinations seem not working, no charging indications.
How can I fix this?
Is it bricked? If so, changing motherboard will fix this?
Try leaving it on charge for a while. The charging light should light up. When you go in recovery, on the "no command" screen, press and hold power button and press the vol. up button. That will take you to the admin / recovery screen.
I didn't know it either and was thinking the recovery is corrupt or not working. It is actually waiting for that command from you (power+vol. up). Once in, you can navigate through the menu using vol. up and down to move and power to select an option.

I manage to get the phone working again and booted up on "No Command" screen again. Holding vol up and power doesn't work. But I manage to do download mode instead, installed new firmware and again, it crashes after Odin successfully pass it.
I attached a photo of the crash.
Btw I think it's charging now but there's no LED light.
-_- Just both this few months ago.
EDIT: also when I restart my phone using vol down, home, and power keys to restart my phone then Vol up+power+home or without home, it skips the factory reset and jumps to "No Command" again. -_-
This is hardware failure.
Go to Samsung service.

Update:
I tried to downgrade it, and now I'm stuck installing updates, can't go past it. -_-
oh god, last time Lg G4 gave me headache and now my s7 edge is suffering from abnormalities too. -_-
I had this same problem, I sent the web store that I imported and I am waiting for answers, because it is still under warranty. With each passing day I see more of this problem happening, I find it very worrisome.
Its a hardware issue mate. Had this recently and changed the Mainboard. You should let it replaced if u are in warranty.

UPDATE:
After flashing different kinds of Nougat firmwares nothing happens. Charging light and key lights are dead at this point. Then I flashed some MM firmware, one of these firmware gives life back to the dead LED lights on the notification and keys but phone still can't get pass the blue screen with "erasing" or "installing updates" message. After multiple times of force rebooting it by pressing vol down+power, it booted itself to recovery mode(thanks god!) and I don't know why. Lol. Wipe cached it and factory reset and still brought me back to "erasing" or "installing updates" blue screen. Then finally, after flashing the UK stock MM, all lights came back to life. It's working fine right now and I don't think I'll update it to Android N just yet.

Random reboots and now black screen

Hey guys my wife's S7 edge (SM-G935W8, Canadian variant) started rebooting and boot looping for a few days until it suddenly rebooted and stayed on with a black screen and the notification LED stayed blue until the battery died. Even holding home, power and volume down didn't do anything...
The phone was never rooted and completely stock. I just tried reinstalling stock firmware with Odin and everything went well as I got a pass but it still won't boot and gets stuck with black screen and blue LED.
Does this sound like a dead phone? I can't get into stock recovery, only download mode once the battery dies.
Just wondering if it's fixable.
Thanks

As the device switched off press the Power Button together with the Volume Button down, when the device vibrates, release the Power button and only keep the volume down button until the device starts up to the start screen appear.

You can enter download mode right ?
why don't you try installing TWRP recovery with ODIN
Go to TWRP website... and find your device
download .img.tar file
open odin and insert this file in AP tab and in the option tab (disable "auto reboot" )
( plug your phone via usb to your PC.)
on the log it will show (added)
hit start
once installed...press and hold vol down + home +power key (while it restarts) press and hold vol up + home+power key
You will now enter TWRP Recovery...swipe to allow modifications
wipe - > advanced wipe -> except sd card...select everything and wipe them (all your data will be gone)
now install any custom rom from this site..

I didn't try TWRP but I did try stock firmware from Samsung and Odin, said it passed but I couldn't boot the phone... Doesn't OEM unlock have to be checked in order to install TWRP tho? This phone was completely stock and never rooted.

yes i know but have you tried it ? i thought advanced wipe might help as it will remove everything.
My S7 edge is also having similar issue. It just died 4 days ago at 5 percent battery and red LED kept blinking. I tried to hard reboot using Power + Vol Down, it didn't work. I couldn't get into the Download mode either. It doesn't charge when connected to the charger, not detected on any computer as well. Any thoughts?

I plugged it in last night, after the battery was completely drained. It's been a week since the issue.
It was fine till this morning. I inserted the SIM cards and then connected to the laptop. I thought I would backup the data using smart switch before doing a factory reset. The backup went fine till 75% and then boom again turned off. This time there's a lot of battery left, and I might have to wait 4-5 days before it can be drained completely. But I'm now hopeful that it'll eventually turn on and when it does I'll immediately do a factory reset before doing anything else. I'm suspecting that a rogue app might be causing it. This time it might have happened while that app is being backed up. The LED is constant Red this time indicating the state it was connected to the laptop at the time of incident.
It turned on again last night when I connected the charger. It was showing the charging symbol. After 5-6 minutes of charge I tried to hold Vol - + Power buttons briefly to reset the device and it went off again. It's lying like a brick currently.
No sign of life again!
