I've successfully taken my HD2 apart now I'm not sure about the digitizer I need. My phone doesn't have a T-Mobile logo and it came with the leather pouch which I read means it's not the T-M version.
I'm looking for a new digitizer and the one that looks like the connector would fit says it's for the T-M version. Rather than go on about it here is a pic of my digitizer. I'm in the UK so if anybody has shopping suggestions I'd be grateful.

I can't say too much based from picture posted above ...
It could have already replaced unbranded digitizer or it's Telstra, European, Taiwanese version... Are the call and end buttons colored on your phone (green and red respectively)?
If You have enough money, about 89-120$, better choice will be to buy a LCD+digitizer assembly also named LCM, they will work at all versions of HD2, not only T-mobile or European, I tested the LCM from European HD2 with in a T-mobile version of HD2 ant it works perfect. So go on eBay.com and buy one
Call buttons are all grey. I've though about getting the whole combo but it's more than twice the price and I'm not exactly rich so it would have been nice to just get a digitizer. I was hoping there would a way to identify properly which digitizer I need. I've sent a message to one of the suppliers on ebay. I'll see what comes out of it.
According to this article the different versions of the HD2 aren't physically the same size in terms of casing. Do the LCM units fit all the same?

Let me help you:
#1.your picture is defining an uncommon/unbranded TMO(bile)US touchscreen(No doubt about, at least for me!), but grey hardware keys are for international HD2 model, probably you have a (let say) hybrid (home made)version between american(TMOUS) and international model;
#2.nevertheless, in your financial position, I'll look on ebay for an appropriate touchscreen model(there are plenty, most of them with very clear pictures like your's) for about US$30-40;
#3. if you want a combo, as far as I know(and pvii already said it) the 2 LCMs are geometrically identical, but the frame/chasis on which lay on the LCM is different(the american model is longer on 2,0-2,5mm);
#4. international model is cheaper & easier to find.

May be it will be better if You post a photo of rear side of your display or at least say it's product number (from sticker on square copper pad, rear side), i.e. P/N:60H00300-00P is for T-Mobile and P/N:60H00295-00P is for international version.
If You don't have enough money for a european LCM combo, you can buy a LCD apart and digitizer apart, even from different sellers but you have to buy matching parts, both for European or both for T-Mobile version.
Thanks for the info guys. The serial number is the kind of solid identification that I was looking for. The serial on my screen ending in 300-00P indicates that it's the TMobile version.
My theory is that since this phone was bought when it wasn't exactly new on the market HTC had switched to the solderless screens which seem more modern?!?
I'm assuming that in terms of connection the digitisers that look like they will fit in terms of connection should work. I'm only worried about the dimensions of it since the casing of mine is smaller than the real TMobile version from what I can tell.
Since I can't find anything else on ebay I guess I'll order one of the TMobile ones and see if it fits. I'll look for a shop with return policy just in case.

Yupp, any LCM will fit on any model of HD2.
I wasn't sure which part was identical but if the digitizers are then what I ordered should do the trick. Digitizer should arrive this week so hopefully I'll have something to report about
edit: Digitizer arrived and fits perfectly. I guess my phone was some weird mutation. Solution is to just buy a digitizer with the correct connection, job done.
Oh and getting the right tape is a total *****. I had to take everything apart again because my tape wasn't strong enough!
I thought I'd post my findings and produce some cliffnotes on how I fixed my HD2.
Firstly, if you search youtube for "leo as" and "leo dis" you will find the official HTC videos on how to assemble and dis-assemble the HD2. They make it look easier than it is. Also, they don't separate the digitizer from the screen.
I ordered the tools to "dis" off ebay. Especially the T5 screwdriver was worth getting since it allowed me to find out which digitizer I need. I have a non TMobile version but needed the TM digitizer.
I found that using an old credit card type of card works very well for taking the phone apart. It can reach further into the phone and bends rather than breaking like some of the cheap tools from ebay.
Especially for separating the digitizer and screen it's great. I heated up the digitizer & lcd combo in the oven for a couple of minutes like the video advertised for taking the middle part of the phone apart (you'll see in the vid). Here comes the interesting part: Instead of sliding the card / tool all the way across the screen (between screen and digi), it's enough to just separate it around the edges. There is no glue or adhesive in the middle. It seems obvious now but I got lots of glue all over the LCD which was a bit** to clean.
Another tip that is worth repeating is getting the cheap double sided tape from ebay which is meant for Iphone digitizers (3M branded). I got three of them for £1 incl delivery. I used it to put the "middle" of the phone together. Screen and digi I did with cheap double sided tape which is working but I regret somewhat.
Another tip would be the whit cable (flash?) which goes on the bottom of the mainboard. I put it on top to start with. It's easy to mix up. Also it makes sense to put one end on before you put down the mainboard because that way you still have proper access.
Make sure you have good tape and be patient. I had crap tape and just slammed things together because I was so keen to see if the phone still works. I had to take it all apart again which almost broke the phone because it was coming apart in all sorts of places.
Overall it's like a big, fragile puzzle. I got the phone from a family member who had dropped it so all I had to get was the digitizer and tape. Now I have the best phone that ever lived
If anybody has questions, I feel like I know the hardware of the HD2 inside out.
I also took mine apart to replace the digitizer. I haven't got the new one yet though. I also watched the take apart vid on youtube. Unlike you I didn't disconnect the white wire from under the board. As a matter of fact, I left the other wires attached to the mainboard and just disconnected them from the GPS, camera and Bluetooth boards. At the end of the little channel that the wires are in, there was a little metal tab that held the wires in place. I just bent the tab up to remove the wires. Like you I used a piece of credit card to loosen the glued pieces.

Well I dropped my G1 the other day and it busted the outer glass part. The LCD is fine and it still works perfect. I have looked everywhere,with no luck of finding any parts for them. So I called HTC and they told me 150-250 to replace the glass!! So I was wondering if any one know anyone that does G1 Repair or if anyone know of another phone that has more ava. parts for it with a 3.17" Screen? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Nope, I got AT&T. Was thinking of taking apart the phone and getting the glass measurements and having a custom cut piece of glass.

I read that the same screen is in use on the iphone 3g, I doubt its true they probably meant type or sumthin, maybe worth a check...
on the old palm pdas you could replace just the glass if the layer under it isn't damaged, this may no longer be possible with these screens, once the bigtime flashing begins there will be lots of bricks available pretty cheap, maybe you should keep an eye out for somebody who pooched the dev bootloader install then after you convince them they killed it you could buy it maybe for less than the HTC price...
gotta say, that sucks if you were a tmob customer you'd have a few options...

I've never had a broke phone since my Nokia 8210.
Well, some idiot had placed out one of those kinds of plastic bands you use to seal packages with, a black one.
It was pitch dark and I fell as the plastic ring got snared around my feet. Obviously my Jabra bt3030 got pushed against the screen and it got severely cracked.
My insurance company seems to be covering the whole phone except a small sum. This was from the phone part, but I got to see if I can get something from the health insurance as I hit my head and scratched my hand (though not likely but I can always try)
The touch seems to work most of the time, though it reacts slowly but some times It's just dead.
This really sucks.
I'm dead serious when I'm talking that there was no way that the band could be seen when walking.

It is glass. But you can not simply cut a piece of glass to the same dimension as the touchscreen is integrated into the glass cover. So yes you will need to get a htc or aftermarket replacement part.
The interesting thing is that the repair cost you quoted is identical to the cost of the copay if you go with the Asurion device insurance T-mo offers. So device insurance would just be a waste of money at $5 a month if you end up with broken glass.
Looks like I will just have to hold onto it until aftermarket parts come out. I busted mine by letting it slip out of my hand while talking on it....then it took a 6ft fall to eventually land face first on concrete.....I didnt even wanna pick it up cause i new it was messed up and if it wasnt I was gonna call HTC and give them props! I have a ava. upgrade from AT&T Maybe get a Iphone until this one gets fixed then sale iphone on ebay for 5x wuts its worth.
The iphone's screen seems to crack pretty nice as well.
I hope changing the glass on the G1 isn't as frustrating as on the Iphone.

I cracked the LCD of my G1 after about three weeks and have noted that neither PPCTechs nor MobileKangaroo have yet acquired a source for the replacement screen.
My understanding is that HTC currently charges what one thread in another forum (http://www.allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4226) quoted as "a minimum of $238.00" to make this repair.
I expect this repair to be offered soon by third parties for about $150, likely using a non-HTC screen product to replace the damaged one.
Has anyone heard any reports about forthcoming availability of such hardware? If so, then are there any non-HTC services to make the replacement?

so have the same issue and this is what I found out
so from my understanding there are 2 part to the lcd the outer glass touch sensor and the inner lcd. if the the screen is just cracked and you can see the image the u have to replace both. attached are the part descriptions fromt he g1 service manual. and below is a link of a site that sells them, but for some reason they sell the touch scrren with the outer bezel making it cost more. i called htc to order just the touch sensor glass but they said the dont sell replacements, they just fix em

I contacted the seller of the screen and he/she told me that It's only the screen. If the G1 cracks It's the digitizer glass that cracks first. Then if you are unlucky the screen cracks as well. I managed to only crack the digitizer glass. The screen beneath is totally fine. Unfortunately removing the glass from the digitizer plastic was very painful and I managed to wreck the flat cable of the digitizer so that's beyond repair. Now I tried to disassemble the whole phone but I got stuck at removing the housing. First I had problems with the Torx bits. I have some Torx bits in my sets but the lowest I got was T8. I had to buy a cellphone bits set with a lot of different types of bits. It had Torx all the way down to T4. The T5 and T6 was what I needed. There are 4 T5 to remove and one T6. I have inserted the sharp plastic between the housing and the top case and released all hooks but it seems the front and back part of the housing of the phone is dead stuck.
You have to open the whole damn phone from the back to get to the inside of the screen. Why the screen housing uses standard Philips is also beyond me. I have lots of bad experience with standard Philips screws. The heads always get bad after a while of screwing. I have yet to have a problem with Torx.
I have couple of scratches on my touch pro screen.when the device is on the scratches are like rainbow colors really visible.If I change the touch screen (not the whole lcd screen) that will fix my problem right? Did any1 do this?
ummm i think when u meant by "rainbow colors" then ure gonna have to replace the WHOLE LCD screen, cuz more than likely its from the LCD screen, and i dont think the touch screen and LCD screen are 2 parts...i think theyre just one...not sure, but try to look on ebay OR idk if u have warranty on it u can probably call in HTC about it...

I wouldnt, thats just the only touch pro take apart that I found with pictures
mikechannon.net is a good place to start. But if you are looking to replace the digitizer only, you won't find it there. It's a bad move anyway. I tried that, cracked my lcd and end-up buying the whole lcd like this.
All I can tell you are my mistakes.... lol....
- never peel of the digitizer. it will ruin it.
- never try to remove the lcd with cutter blade. this is how i cracked it (stupid me and still regret it)
- between the lcd and the digitizer there is a thick, clear double tape like glue. i came across some information about this somewhere (forget where...). one said you should heat the glue first (don't know how to apply this without affecting the lcd) . other one said have to use dental floss.
So, there you go.
HTC Touch Pro- LCD & Digitizer replacement instuctions
Hi everyone. I have SCOURGED the internet looking for some kind of decent instructions to replace the LCD & Digitizer screen on my HTC Touch Pro (Sprint) phone with the new set I purchased from Hong Kong. Mike Shannon's site does NOT give directions for this specific area.
I have seen you all talking about needing to do the same thing and wonder if anyone has done it? And do you have any directions to help me?
I've had this part for a month now, and can't find any directions to do it! My dog chewed it, and the touch works, but the screen is half black now. I read it is easier/less risky to replace both lcd and digitizer, which I went ahead and purchased them both with the tools, now I just need to find something decent (instructions) to have help replacing it.

You can use Google translate on it. It seems that the hardest component to get to is the lcd. I also bought the digitizer, since my lcd is fine. I'll post a follow-up if I go for it.

I bought a touch screen and digitizer as separate items. I wish I had known that some kind of clear adhesive is supposed to be between them.
A) What happens if you don't use this adhesive?

I just got what was supposed to be a replacement LCD+digitizer. they shipped the pieces seperate, so I can't understand how to put them together, since HTC seems to only list the part as one piece and there are no instructions or videos anywhere that indicate how to install them as seperate pieces, or get them to connect.

Ok, I just recently bought a parts phone on here (a Fuze) and was "just going to replace the digitizer" (Authors laughs, then cries at statement)
Ok, yes you can replace the digitizer without replacing the screen, BUT they tell you to use an oven (you can buy one from HTC they make it available to their techs, so you need someone that can get that for you). If you do not make sure that ALL of the glue is loose prior to taking the digitizer off you will split the LCD.
It is much simpler to get either a parts phone or a screen and digitizer and replace the part. I had to replace my digitizer as the touch function did not work. You can find older project phones in the market section. If you figure the cost of a parts phone (plus you have extra parts if anything else goes out) vs. if you buy a digitizer, then rip a part of the LCD because all of the glue was not disolved, and have to buy either a parts phone or a new phone anyway you will be way ahead of the game.
There are a number of good resources on here as to how to disassemble and reassemble the fuze.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TRYING TO REPLACE THE DIGITIZER ALONE IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TRAINED OR HAVE THE PROPER EQUIPMENT - unless you need a reason to sell your spouse on why you need a new phone. "Honey, I tried my hardest to fix it, but I guess it is really broke now, I'm gonna have to get an HD2"

1. Collect information
a. Find the Service Manual HTC Touch Pro (Raphael) on Mike Channons's site, the Raphael wiki or you could Google for it. File name is "HTC Raphael_SM_A10 _GENERIC__01 Dec 08.pdf".
Take a look at the disassembly and assembly chapters of the Service Manual.
The following two lists may be helpful.

The Diamond does not have an integrated keyboard, so it is a bit different, but it is good enough to get an idea of the process.
The information on how to replace the screen itself is not found in the service manual.
c. Study the last few stages of the HTC Touch Pro page on pdacenter.ru
(Translate the page into English using Google.)
The display is attached to the metal frame by 4 small pieces of double sided tape.
3. Get some tools
a. Phillips (cross head) screwdriver size 00x50
The right size is 00. The length, 50mm, is less important.
There is one torque screw in the Raphael (SPL no. 27), but it can easily be handled by a normal screwdriver.
b. Plastic stick (to open the case)
The standard plastic stick I had ordered was actually too big. The one I made myself was smaller and proved to be better.
c. Other tools
I did not use these, but if you plan to do more than one it would be a good idea to use the
- plastic tweezers
- ESD wrist wrap
- rubber gloves
4. Buy a display with touch screen attached to it
You could buy the touch screen and the display separately, but I could not find any information on putting them together. Avoid problems by buying these already attached.
5. Replace the display
a. Disassemble following the Service Manual, leaving the M/B unit in order.
Be careful not to break the small speaker cords. Do not move them too much because they are very fragile.
Be sure to keep every piece of tape safe for reassembly. Buying new tape can be quite expensive.
b. For the last stages, follow the instructions from pdacenter.ru.
Press the old display gently out of the metal frame. Move the pieces of double sided tape from the old to the new display, and fit the new one into the metal frame.
c. Reassemble following the Service Manual.

Will the lcd and digitizer from a sprint version work on an alltel version(ppc-6850)? Or is there another lcd and digitizer that i can use? Im back to the old berry 8703 and its killing me.

I don't see any soldering involved there. The digitizer is fitted with thin lines of some kind of glue or kit around the edges. I have not seen any documentation on it though.

you can look at the connect flex cable part of your touch screen and the lcd, you will find they are soldered together. Of course , if you don't soldering it together, it will also work, but not as good as after soldering.

Ok,my HD2 is broken since October and I'm a student and i just couldn't afford the repairs. All I know is that - it seems like this - the connector to the display is not working anymore (common problem I heard).
But honestly I have no idea what to do:
Money is still a bit tight so I can't really buy a new phone.
On the other I couldn't even figure out what to repair. I know the display is a whole unit (LCD and touchscreen glued together) and somewhere in between is the connector,which lost his contact to the mainplatine.

Thanks your these links but the thing is..I already know them and tried it as far as I could (which is why I already have the right screw driver for it). In the end I just scratched it more and more...
The thing is..I'm not really good at this - especially the display removing and heating part of the job. So I thought I could bypass that by simply replacing the whole display unit. Ok,still 70 Euro if I chose the second ebay link but that's way cheaper than the other ebay offer plus really really cheap compared to these send-in repair shops from the internet (about 200 euro then).
I'm just not sure if these are the right components or if there is a cheaper offer somewhere else.
I bought my LCD+Digitizer for 55USD with the shipping costs, from ebay.com.
It was from a China seller, not an OEM item for sure, but after all, my LCD was as a new one!!!
I also needed an adhesive tape like this one.
you should remember that you will need to detach the LCD+Digi from the middle metal plate frame bezel
and the only way is with heat. I tried with a hair drier..
And all went as is should be..
I'm sorry to dig this thread up but I just found my old HD2 and wondered if I could get it back to work.
Of course I need a new battery and stuff but actually it's still ok.
The concerning part is the glued display and the heat you need but now the HD2 gets older and the prizes drop so I saw a complete display (the glass, the screen and the touchpad-layer) on amazon for 60 euro.
Would you go for it?
I'm not quiet sure how to disamble the device but there are videos for that. And then it should work, right? There is no glue or duct tape or anything involved if I swap the whole display-component, right?

From the research I've done you'll need either super glue or 3m double sided tape.

My HD2 finally developed the dreaded unresponsive touchscreen problem this week after just over 2 years use and as I'm now out-of-warranty I've decided to replace the lcd/digitizer myself.
Searching XDA and youTube for inspiration threw up a lot of scattered information, some useful and a lot more that was wrong and misleading so i'd like to establish a thread here with all the right answers provided, in detail.
This should also be of interest to those with dropped phones and smashed screens.
So far I've discovered:
- my unresponsive touchscreen is a hardware (not software) issue; caused by damage to the digitizer cable accumulated over time by repeated presses of the power button, to which it is physically adjacent.
- if the cable is only slightly damaged, a temporary fix might be achieved by pressing on the power button until the touchscreen starts responding again and then avoiding pressing the power button thereafter. ie. letting the phone timeout to sleep automatically and waking the phone up by pressing one of the other buttons rather than the power button.
- a permanent fix involves replacing the digitizer which requires an almost complete teardown of the phone. I'm open to any other suggestions from posters for say, repairing the cable although I haven't seen any as yet.
- although only the digitizer needs replacing, it's easier (albeit slightly more expensive) to replace the LCD and digitizer as a unit, which is the same part whatever version of HD2 you have.
- The disassembly procedure is fiddly with a lot of easily-breakable cables and connectors.
I've already acquired the LCD/ digitizer (part no. 60H00300-00P) from ebay, for £22.99 shipped, which was a pretty good deal as the standard UK price seems to be ~£38. The cheapest I found for the digitizer only (without LCD) in the UK was 11.95 shipped. The difference in price wasn't worth the extra installation hassle for me.
other required items are: a T5 torx screwdriver, a small jeweller's screwdriver set, tweezers, a guitar pick, an old credit card or similar, superglue (or double-sided adhesive tape) and thin (2.5mm?) single-side adhesive tape. also reading glasses or a magnifier might be handy depending on the quality of your close vision (i'm 54 so mine lacks somewhat).

.. unfortunately its in German, which mostly isn't a problem as you can see what he is doing, except at the end as he describes (at length, rather than showing) the final step of superglueing the new LCD/ digitizer into the phone chassis, where i thought I might have missed some important details. Perhaps any German-speaking posters could fill us in on that procedure?

I've read that german thread as well and I'd agree that it does seem to be a very good guide, to read it in english open the page in chrome (or search for the thread in google) and let google translate it,
Step 32 for example translates to Step 32: Now as in step 31 and proceed to the bottom of using each 1 drop of superglue and moisten with clothespins along with the 30-minute fix waiting / drying time. In the bottom right where the flex board stops at the edge of the touchscreen and LCD connector watch film. There, only the metal bridge very carefully and very economical with wet glue. Important: Use sparingly only at the marked positions superglue! Never close the buttons at the bottom, even if the lure still should be as large. It is held there by our HTC special adhesive film wonderfully.

Thanks, I'll have a look and see where his "marked positions" are. i already figured from the video that he was stressing about the buttons.
As this is the only part that I'm nervous about, I'd be interested in anybody else's experience of sticking the new lcd/ digitizer into the chassis. what did you use? and how did it go?
Presumably HTC didn't use superglue at the factory. Has anybody tried double-sided adhesive tape for this?
EDIT: I've just ordered some cheap generic double-sided tape on ebay, advertised as "New Clear Strong Permanent Double Sided Self Adhesive Craft Packaging Tape".
I'm still waiting for my LCD/ digitizer part to arrive and in the meantime bought another HD2, with a smashed screen, to practice disassembly on.
my own HD2 is currently behaving itself as long as I don't forget not to touch the power button.
i've now received my digitizer/ lcd part + (noname) double-sided tape in the post.

there is some debate in that thread over whether tape might be a better bet than superglue. the tape they recommend is 3M brand 2mm double-sided, for which I have sourced a supplier on eBay (item #281023942070 -- "3M 2mm x 50m Adhesive Tape Roll for iPod iPhone iPad - Transparent") for £5.99. I'm going to get a roll of that but may still opt for the superglue method ... undecided.

After seeing some videos I decided to buy a digitizer from ebay, it looked really easy on the videos. I bought one for 25€ , the ribbon cable looked strange but I decided to go on. After finishing everything the digitizer doesn't respond. I want to test the digitizer alone, any idea? I've access to a complete electronic lab, so there's no problem to use an oscilloscope or whatever.

sounds like you might have bought the wrong digitizer. You know there are 2 types, soldered and solderless (plug-in) which have different connectors?
Any pics? How did the disassembly go otherwise?
in the german video i posted, he shows how to reconnect the ribbon cables and test the lcd/ digitizer before glueing it in and reassembling the phone.

While disassembling my HD2, I botched the separating of the LCD/digitizer from the chassis by cutting somewhere in between them and I was sure my screen was completely gone, but somehow it did work though it's obviously damaged. (See pic: i.imgur.com/1jVaK.jpg )
Is it the LCD that's damaged, or the digitizer, or both? I tested touch with the Phone Tester app and it registers all over the screen.

It's the LCD, the best option is to get a new LCD+touchscreen already assembled, I just replaced mine:

Thanks! I've been looking and found a range or replacement options from $35 for what looks like a generic part to $100 for an OEM shipped. I'm just not sure It's worth spending 100 bucks on a 3-year-old mobile that could have any other part break at any time when what I've got is annoying, but not completely unusable. Are there any of the cheaper panels you could recommend on eBay or anywhere else?
I knowit makes no difference but for what it's worth, my current panel shows up as MicroP (Touch) 0x40 in the bootloader, meaning it's neither a 60H00295 nor a 60H00300 according to my forum research.
And another quick question: how many glass lenses for the light / proximity sensors should there be? I only found 1 and not sure if I need to give the room a good sweep :laugh: At the moment my screen is sitting high because the double sided tape I had was too thick so the lens doesn't stay in place. I've ordered the proper tape now, but not sure if I need to source more lenses too.

EDIT: I've got an EU phone from Vodafone (unbranded) if that makes any difference at all.
Those plastic lenses are 2:
1. a smaller one (cylindrical shape with a "nose");
2. a bigger one (like an aprox. square prism).
