Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anybody have seen this?

It's several months old, DJ_Steve got dell to release it and has been slowly working on it since then.

Dell Streak is living in stone age?

I think i wont be wrong if i say this " Dell streak is living in stone age"
coz Google's Android platform turns 3, Gingerbread due on 11 November
and where we are
Factory Shipment:1.6
Update:2.1
Dj Steve Unofficial :2.2
Official Update 2.2: Sorry i havent got my cristal ball with me today
cheers
agreed the software is behind. But the hardware is right on par. To me the more important thing is the hardware - because the software can be upgraded (as seen with Steve's Froyo).
I too was skeptic about not having a recent update to Android on this device. Regardless this device is miles ahead of my old Touch Pro 2. 2.2 is coming and I'm sure there's a lot of behind-the-scenes legal mumbo-jumbo responsible for the schedule. Dell is new to the smartphone game and I'm sure there's a learning curve.
Anyone on XDA is probably here for the same reason. We want the BEST for our phones, but, waiting on carriers to release updated roms is like waiting for paint to dry.
The suits in charge of the carriers probably have to have a dozen or more meetings before they release an update, if they even update it at all.
Another reason I think the carriers should get out of the hardware business and
just be a provider. Yes, probably more headaches trying to make everything compatible, but just look at the Asian markets, and the numerous options they have for hardware. What to the states get? A few phones a year.
1.6 came out about a year ago, the streak was probably slated for its release then. its amazing the small gaps between major software releases from google. im just hoping froyo for the streak comes out before gingerbread does. i like knowing my device runs on the latest and greatest, even if its only for a day.
I for 1 was happy it came with 1.6 it gave me chance to play with 1.6 and 2.1 and next is 2.2 and after 3.0 so in my eyes its like haveing 4 different devices

you mean 2.3.
This phone is awesome even on 1.6 and it keeps getting better.

In fact if you change the launcher you can barely notice the differences between the Android versions.
I started with adw and have more recently been playing with launcher pro.
Except flash, wifi hotbot, new gmail in 2.2 ;-)

[Q] Does anyone know the updating timeline?

Does anyone know when or if the desire z will be getting Gingerbread and later on Honeycomb?
I have no idea if HTC updates their phones or just releases new ones (they seem to release a lot of phones) I'm sure it would take time for them to shove sense onto Gingerbread but even a rumored time line would be cool to know.
My guestimate on official updates is 4-5 months after the source is released.
The original Desire was released April, 2.2 source released May 20th, HTC 2.2 update released August 1st ?! ... Oh, that is only 2 and a bit months.
I still think 3-4 months so not to be disappointed. But We'l get custom ROMs before that hopefully.
One thing you need to know about HTC. They never ever ever release anything quickly for past phones.
There will be at least 2 news phones that come with Gingerbread (or whatever) before they release the update for us.
However custom roms will have it ages before then.
but the Desire got an update immediately..haha

What's going on?

Why this forum is so in late on new releases?
On neopeek's forum they have Gingerbread and here nothing moves since almost 4 months?
Is someone still working on xdandroid?
The lastest release is dated 3 september and no news.
There's the camera almost working and no mention here...
Is it time for us to change forum?
I hope in new releases in the few days

[Q] Please Help..1.6 or 2.2

I got a Dell Streak about 2 weeks ago and did the 2.2 update the first time I turned it on and it saw wifi...I got it from Dell as an unlocked device...I noticed that it would not read the 16gb sd card that it came with so I called Dell and I got a replacement today..
Now here is my question: should I run 1.6 as is or update to 2.2...Is there any big differences here as far as being stable, rooting, custom roms and things like that...
Also I plan to use this as a tablet running strictly wifi if possible with no particular plan or carrier...
Please help....thanks.....
2.2 is like a brand new phone. Their are guides all around on how to do this. Then if you go to a rom like DJ Steve 1.6. Its like getting a new phone again. Not an exaggeration. I had my doubts for a long time, slowly made the move and so happy I did.
If you have an unlocked unit then you can update to 2 2 upon first boot. I would definitely do the update to 2.2 much better than 1.6 then I would suggest going to DJ steve's custom rom. Its so much better than stock 2.2.

I have a locked unit from Best Buy and I used qdl to update to 205, then used dells website to update to 208. It's like a different phone.
I recently upgraded to dj Steve's 1.6 its amazing its I can't put the phone down.

This is Quite Interesting

Have a read http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/21/...bring/?utm_source=engadget&utm_medium=twitter
are they just updating to froyo? (probably not huh? since its available from settings) , do some units ship with froyo out of the box?
maybe gingerbread.. if not, maybe it's that honeycomb rumor we heard about 3 weeks ago.
Imagine Dell now advertising this thing as shipping with 3.0 !
Dell is working on an update based on DJ_Steve's StreakDroid.
Given that the article mentions the update having nothing to do with Android, don't count on it.
<speculation>They're retooling the internal MicroSD so that it can't be removed.</speculation>
And the Rumour Mill will go on and on it will do our heads in and in the end dell will do nothing
