So currently I am using my mytouch 3g (Original) unlocked on At-t and without a dataplan. When T-mobile decides to roll out the 2.2 update, how would I go about getting it? Would they make it available online to install manually (without rooting)? Or would I need to grab a T-mobile sim and download it that way. Also if I used the latter route and used someone else's sim, would they need to have a dataplan for me to download it? Or would my mytouch still detect the update and download it for me without a data-plan.
no data plan is needed as the update can come through wifi thats how i got my 1.6 update so it should be the same with froyo
Alright so if I connect the mytouch to wifi it will automatically find the update to install? No 3g connection to any network needed?

I think for most custom roms it won't work - to be sure roll back to last stock rom and hope to be one of the first
I haven't rooted my phone for awhile for numerous reasons, including the update. So basically OTA isn't over the network's data or anything? It's just a process that uses the internet, in whatever form it gets it?
I think some have missed the key point - you're on AT&T with a MyTouch (just like I am). You won't get the OTA automatically, as it is going to be sent by the carrier, not Google. AT&T doesn't "know" your MyTouch, and they don't support it...
The best solution if you're rooted, and the one I'm going to be doing, is simply to wait for a "clean rooted" version to come out and flash it. The OTA generally won't work on rooted phones since it is typically disabled.
If you're not rooted, then you'd have to find someone with T-Mobile and put their SIM card in and do a check for updates. Not sure if the data plan or wifi alone would be necessary in that case.
I heard that someone could simply manually install the update by looking for the link that the phone downloads it from. And you could do this without rooting, is that true?

If you think about it the new rom that installs on your phone comes with carrier apps (such as MyFaves, etc) and I really can't imagine AT&T sending you a T-Mobile rom. In my opinion (just a theory) I don't think that you would get the update. I could be wrong though.
Well in that case do you think it is likely that someone will be able to find the update file and I can load it onto my phone WITHOUT rooting?

I don't think so.
What's to stop you from rooting your device? It would solve all of your problems.

i'm gonna guess 2.2 will be the same. i dont know how long after the OTA updates until a manual update appears.

Actually cant someone who gets the OTA update look up a link in their phone (The location where the phone downloaded the update from) and post the link so people can download the file and manually update? If someone could do that when the update comes out I'd think that be a great help to myself and a few people out there who don't want to root but can't get their update.
How do i know if my bootloader is locked. I got my phone from phones4u in england there is no sim lock or branding on the phone at all, dose this mean its unlocked. Also if i root my device with gingerbreak will i still be able to update with the official sony ericsson updates.

if you havent unlocked it yourself then it's locked if you root using just gingerbreak, then you can update using seus, but if you unlock your bootloader, you will need to use flashtool to update

I use to work closely with Phones 4u, all contract handsets they sell are SIM free, saves them money on stock. All sim free just stick network sim in saves having x amount of each network in stock. Pre-Pay they some times have to buy SIM locked stock due to how networks pay per activation.

I also got my phone from phones4u. I did root using gingerbreak then used SEUS to update. No problems. The update just removed the root and reinstalled the apps i had removed after rooting. Also you can only root on 2.3.2 if you update with SEUS it will install the latest version 2.3.3 and rooting 2.3.3 is not possible atm.

has anyone tried to sim unlock their phone AFTER the update to 4.3???
I'm asking because I have a BELL i337m, upgraded to 4.3 and decided to unlock my phone after.
I tried 3 different sites to unlock my phone, they all gave me the same code and nothing happens
I tried downgrading to 4.2.2 but this wasn't very successful, its stuck in the boot animation screen
any ideas?

I know it's not helping, but I received my Bell phone yesterday and it was shipped with baseband I337MVLUAMG1. I tried the "free sim unlock method" found on this forum, but it doesn't work. I cannot access service mode (*#0011#, Menu button, Back, Menu button, KEY INPUT, 1, OK).
Still searching for a stock rom that will have the service mode enabled...
Dont waste your time looking for a free unlocking service..Pay 29.99 USD and have it umlocked from cellunlocker..you will be happier in the long run as i am..thank me for not wasting time unlocking for free..

I am having pretty much the same problems on my Telus/Koodo i337m. I recently updated to the most recent firmware (4.3) on the advise of cellunlocker because the code I was given was not working. None of the codes work and I can't even access the screens to do it manually. I have recently rooted it, props to Chainfire, but have no luck with most of the service screens. I'm still working with Cellunlocker to resolve the issue. I had access to all the service screens/menus on MDJ but not MG1 or MK6. Wondering if maybe the update missed some files or if the update locked some features. not sure if this is helpful but I'm happy to share whatever information I have to help others with the same problems.
Same here,
Bell with MK6. 3 sites provided same unlock codes. Nothing works, service menus different, etc.
Can't downgrade to 4.2.2 since image found crashed (bricks the phone). Image I found was at Sam Mobile
Apparently BELL will unlock it for 50$ but require original sales receipt, which I don't have (purchased phone on ebay)
Just paid BELL $57 to unlock, and their code is the same as all the sites... NOT WORKING !!!
I wanted them to give me the 1st 2 digits and last 2 digits so I can refuse before payment. But they insisted on pay first - code after - code by email. Luckly I had an employee of Bell at Bell Boutique confirm code not working.
I'm now on hold (1hr) to try see if they have another code?

I think you're right... I ended up buying a code from unlocksamsungonline.com for 29.71$ CAD with a coupon. Received the codes in 55 minutes. Hope it works...
My provider Bell Canada, gave me the same codes as all these sites, and they don't work on 4.3. Looks like Samsung has a major BUG in 4.3 in regards to unlock. Bell says call Samsung ! Go figure!
Problem is that will take a while to fix, aka get it out to consumers....
Chatted with Samsung, they say call BELL !
WoW !!!

Are you sure your phone is locked to bell?
Did you try putting different simcard other then Bell? Did your phone ask for unlock code when you put the other carrier's sim?

this still doesn't work.
Paid and tried from 3 different sites, they all gave me the same exact code
I think that the update has locked the bootloader and anything else.
I was reading somewhere that Samsung may be blocking the sim unlock and forcing people to pay roaming fees
Well all I can say is that this has been a huge step backwards for Samsung (from my point of view) locking/blocking features, really is a major turn off for me.
I think its time to look at other options until someone from XDA figures this one out.

100% locked to Bell
I have the original sim from Bell and is working fine
Put a Fido sim and asks for the unlock code, when I enter it, it says unsuccessful
everything is correct, IMEI has been verified many times and the codes also
Samsung is blocking something here with the latest 4.3 MK6 update

BTW, I just got off the phone with Samsung, they say that I have to take this issue up with my service provider.
they are not able to help me and answer why my unlock code isn't working.
he did admit however, that there have been multiple calls about the 4.3 upgrade and that Samsung is going to release an update very shortly
let's just hope that this will rectify the issues that we have been having

I restored my stock rom (Bell I337MVLUAMG1) and was able to unlock successfully my phone. I used a Telus SIM and was able to receive a phone call. BTW, I never updated my phone to the stock 4.3 update.
So it seems that you must be stock for unlock codes to work. For the record, I was using KANGAKAT KOT49H 6.0 when the code was not working...

I am wondering if you can flash the MG1 radio from 4.2.2 and try unlocking the phone. If successful install the radio from 4.3 again.
I am not sure weather we are able to flash old radio on 4.3 though.

Current software is update PC5 and i would love to benefit from security and bug fixes in new releases.

Most likely not a carrier unlock do to a unlocked padlock during boot animation as well as samsung pay not working due to software mods that im guessing made it unlocked in the first place. Thanks for the reply!

Bootloader unlock and sim unlock are two different things. You said it has an unlock pad on boot up screen. That means it's bootloader is unlocked. Which means if I am correct if it has a custom recovery you are unable to do future ota updates. Can and possibly brick your phone. You can flash a ton that has the new update no issues developers are usually fairly quick to update there rom on the latest ota.

I can confirm that updating over OTA will NOT screw with the unlock of the device. If your samsung pay does not work i would disable knox with a package disabler app to receive samsung pay in you new updated state.
OTA update from PC5 to PH7 on unlocked phone went smoothly.
Thanks

@ThaDunder : You must initially do it manually over samsung smart switch then OTA will work @zirnitra : Sadly wifi tethering is not working for me either...no idea how to fix it =/ must be a symptom of the unlocking like wifi calling

Hello all,
Attached are modified factory roms that will flash an at&t or t-mobile phone to an unlocked phone. This means no more bloatware and in my case much better handoff between the lte bands.
These images reuse the carrier bootloader (I'm working on it) but everything else from the radio to the rom is from the unlocked priv.

T-Mobile -> unlocked hybrid: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767153589
Directions: Unzip files. Hold power and volume down until phone reboots to fastboot. Launch flashall.bat. Follow instructions. This WILL delete your data so have a backup or don't I'm your boss. Wait. Done.
As usual I am not responsible for you bricking your phone. That being said even if the wrong file is flashed the phone gets stuck at the fastboot screen where you can flash the right file.

Totally possible. If we had root just modify the host file and set the verizon server update ip to localhost. You should be able to install DNS66 and do something similar. This will take digging on your end to figure out what the update IP is though.
I have an ATT Priv, so if I flash this I'll get next time OTA from BlackBerry instead of ATT? Saw the one above with the Verizon update and went back to bloated version.
Reporting back in to verify that it worked flawlessly on both at&t and t-mobile variants I have. Now if only we could get root lol
Thank you so much for your effort
I have an ATT branded Priv which got unlocked from ATT directly and has successfully installed this ROM. It works perfectly without any ATT bloatwares, but this built is old and when I check for system update it shows my system is up to date. However the most recent built for unlocked factory image is AAL202 according to the blackberry official reload software website.
So does this ROM OTA updates via ATT server or directly from Blackberry server?
