1. IS YOUR WILDFIRE (buzz) ROOTABLE..?
Rooting is the process with which one can have superuser previlages. And custom recovery is needed for installing custom roms. The present popular custom recovery for wildfire buzz is ClockWorkMod recovery. CWM custom recovery helps us to make advanced things like installing custom roms, nandroid backups, advanced nandroid restores..
Presently every wildfire can be rooted along with installing custom roms. If your hboot is 0.80 then unrevoked is the way to root your phone. Unrevoked roots your stock Rom along with installing custom recovery so that you can install custom roms. And if your hboot is 1.01.x you need to use alpharevx for making it s-off and then you can root and install custom recovery with easy procedures.
** If ur device is htc bee, the above things will not be applicable to u. And sorry, i heard that there is no custom recovery for htc bee. So, u cannot install custom roms.
2. CONNECTIVITY OPTIONS: (includes features + bugs + fixes)
Basic ways of connectivity is through USB, BLUETOOTH, WIFI
Wildfire bluetooth profiles: Bluetooth® 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate, A2DP, FTP, OPP, AVRCP, GAP, GOEP, HFP, HSP, PBAP, SPP, Service Discovery Application Profile.
Wanna learn something about BT profiles, go with wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_profiles
a. BLUETOOTH DIAL UP NETWORKING (dun)
This is for tethering the mobile 2G/3G internet to a bluetooth enabled pc. Wildfire doesn’t natively have the DUN profile. But some applications emulate this profile. “Pdanet” is best application for this. It works both on rooted phones and unrooted phones. Regarding using BT DUN, the pc version of pdanet need not be installed. But pdanet had issues with some bluetooth drivers of pc (for example, it wont work with the latest bluesoleil drivers). Sorry i cant tell u the list with which it works, maybe that's what the users must post. Another application called “easy tether” is expected to support BT DUN in future. So check for its updates if u r intrested. Easy tether presently supports usb tethering to pc.
b. BLUETOOTH PERSONAL AREA NETWORKING (pan)
This is for tethering mobile 2G/3G internet to a bluetooth enabled pc. But unlike dun, this doesn’t need to edit some settings in pc connection. Its just like internet sharing through LAN. Wildfire doesn’t natively have the PAN profile. Presently there are ROOT ONLY APPS for this feature. “wireless tether” is the application for both wifi tethering and bluetooth pan tethering. U need to enable bluetooth pan in its settings for using this feature. One more requirement of "wireless tether" is u should have a custom kernel which supports netfilter. This works great on cm7 rom.
c. WIFI hotspot tethering:
This is the tethering of mobile internet to PC over WIFI. This is present as a default feature in stock froyo. It isn’t there in eclair. If u want to use root only apps “wireless tether” also works here as said above. There is
d. USB TETHERING:
This is included as an inbuilt feature. The only thing is it takes a couple of minutes to establish a connection. Just u need to install htc usb driver or htc sync in the windows pc to make this work (no need of drivers in linux). Pdanet also works great(also need to install desktop version of pdanet to connect). It establishes connection in 15sec. Pdanet desktop version is a 14day full functional trial version. After 14days, the limitation will be, “u cannot access secure websites (websites which require login)". Another application is "easy tether" which also works with limitation (its lite version blocks secure websites). An advantage in using application for usb tethering is, u can use the mobile simultaneously as a disk drive.
e. REVERSE USB TETHERING:
what i mean by that word is, "using the computers internet connection to the phone via usb". U must have root access. There is a process which worked for google nexus one and im just giving the link. Hope it (works or) helps someone to acheive that in wildfire. http://blog.mycila.com/2010/06/reverse-usb-tethering-with-android-22.html#comment-form
f. BLUETOOTH FTP [FILE TRANSFER + STREAMING] :
there is an application called "Bluetooth File Transfer". I recommend this for file transfer and streaming over BT. Actually there are other file managers which transfer files over BT but they limit the file types. This "Bluetooth File Transfer" allows u to access any files in a computer or another device (the things to be accessed depends on BT shared folder on other device). Also it can send any file type to other device. And also, this application allows u to stream the music and video files on the other device. Streaming depends on the file types supported by "Streaming Media Player" and also depends on the BT data transfer rate (around 200KBPS only).
g. FILE SHARING THROUGH WIFI:
There is an app called "File Share" (by Nav Jagpal) which can transfer files using wifi network .There is also a root only app called "Samba Filesharing" with which u can access the memory card of wildfire as a network shared folder in windows pc. Use drag and drop to copy files to and from..... Pls post the result if u have checked these things.
h. CONNECTING TO WIFI AdHoC NETWORK:
U need to have root access to use this. Go with this link for the setup http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8201393&postcount=5
i. BLUETOOTH A2DP (advanced audio distribution profile) :
This distributes the media audio of wildfire to another device, like a bluetooth headset or a bluetooth pc (played through pc speakers) with advanced audio [remember wildfire cannot receive the audio distributed by another device. Wildfire only distributes its media audio]. To use this, just pair (first enable the BT advanced audio feature in PC BT driver and then pair) the devices and then in wildfire, go to BT settings / devices, long press the device name and go to options. Then check the "Media" checkbox and press connect. As it is a dedicated profile, it does not depend on the bitrate of media file. I have used this with 3 simultaneous music players. *** And the same process works with headset profile, where u can have call functions through BT PC with headset profile or a BT heasdset. U need to just check the "Phone Audio" checkbox.
3. SUGGESTING APPS:
Just suggesting some apps with a little info. And donot use many app/task/process managers as they slow down the system.
--"160by2 - Free SMS" is a text sms sending app using mobile internet (in supported countries only).
--"Android Assistant" - has lot of features like quick boost, process manager, cache cleaner, system clean, batch uninstall, file manager, startup manager.
--"APP 2 SD" (by Sam Lu) - lists the apps that can be moved to sd card (by froyo default apps2sd). batch moving
--"AppBrain AppMarket" + "Best AppsMarket" -search apps and filter apps. U need to enable fast web installer.
--"App Protector" - protects ur favourite apps with a password or pattern.
--"Astro File Manager" - has file manager + process manager + app backup.
--"Daily Horoscope" - nice app for horoscope believers only.
--"Dolphin Browser" - available in 3 formats mini, normal, HD. the hd has many addons and is not recommended for slow connections.
--"Dropbox" - online storage of ur personal files in a secure dropbox account.
--"Droid Meter" - displays the data transfer rate (U + D) on the home screen or n the menu.
--"File locker" (by Marcin Wojas) - lock ur personal files with a specific password.
--"Heyzap" - android gaming community.
--"IMDb Movies & TV" - internet movie database.
--"Moon + Reader" - an ebook reader which can read online and offline files. Also downloads ebooks.
--"QR Droid" -an app that decodes qr images. Also has many other functions.
--"Shazam" - what an app..! It hears to the audio from external source and gives the media details (using mobile internet).
--"SMS Backup & Restore" - it backs up (+ restore) the text messages to sd card to be saved as xml format.
--"Swype" - a better and a faster text input method.
--"X-plore" - nice file manager with many inbuilt features.
MEDIA PLAYERS: for playing music, "TTPOD" is an app which has the features of lyrics and album art picture download. For both music and video, u have the players "Real Player" and "Double Twist Player". double twist paid app has the feature of air sync.
Then for playing videos, "Rock Player" will be nice. It has optimised CPU variant versions, so download the arm v6 version from its website. Another player "MoboPlayer" will also be nice, and it has seperate codec support. Wildfire can also play the videos slightly greater than the QVGA resolution (previously it didn't).
USER INTERFACE: If u like sense widgets, then u will be most probably using htc sense. But if u have an idea to keep htc sense aside, then "Launcher Pro" will be the nice option for u right now. It has great features with great performance. great transistion effects, 3D app drawer, scrollable widgets, smoother scrolling, no lag etc.., explore its settings. The other apps u can consider next to it are "ADW Launcher" , "Go Launcher EX" , "Regina 3D Launcher". Have a look at regina 3d launcher once. If wildfire had gpu, then it might be the prefered one.
4. SUGGESTING GAMES:
Wildfire, with no GPU and QVGA resolution makes gaming horrible. However there are games that can be played decently. As there are already threads created, i will not focus much on this. But i will try to make it somewhat better.. LINKS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824589 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997860
a. LIGHT GAMES: -- "Droid Jump" , "Diamond Islands 2" , "Traffic Jam" , "Yoo Ninja". droid jump is a nice smooth game using sensor (The game ending should be told by the highest scorer).
b. HEAVY GAMES: maybe playable or laggy or unplayable
--"Angry birds" , "Angry birds Seasons" , "Angry birds Rio" -the legendary android games. All of these can now be playable even on stock roms. Their performance is now better than it was before.
--"Asphalt3: street rules": an older version game unavailable in market. somewhat laggy.
--"Armageddon Squadron": too laggy
--"Reckless Racing": - laggy
--"Skyforce" playable
--"Super KO Boxing 2": paid app. needs additional game data to be downloaded to sd card. Playable
--"Wave blazer": too laggy. may expect performance improvements.
c. EMULATOR GAMES: U will be definately more satisfying with emulator games. Only negative point is their controls (even though playable).
-- go to the market and download "Gameboid" , "Nesoid" , "SNesoid" , "Emulator Game List" , "Rom Gripper". Previously, "Rom Gripper" is a freeware in the market. Rom Gripper lists all the game emulator roms and downloads the roms to ur phone. Present rom gripper has issues with downloading roms, so check its reviews before purchasing. The "Emulator Game List" does the same thing as rom gripper except downloading (it just lists the roms). U can alternatively download the roms by googling. The Gameboid , Nesoid , SNesoid are the android game emulator engines which play the emulator roms. There will be many nice and cool emulator games. Im not gonna make a list bcoz, it will be in thousands....
please donot ask/post WAREZ. It is against the forum rules (rule 6).........
AND PLS DONOT FORGET TO LEAVE UR COMMENT.........
Ok done and will be updated regularly.
Due to some limitations, i cant check every application working in the thread. Pls let me know if u find any differences.
And pls donot forget to leave ur comment.....
Good to see all the things at a place. Thanks

Just to make et clear: you can't root your wildfire just using software.
The XTC clip gives you S-off (security-off), wich is ten times better than just root-access, but it is something you must pay for (hardware)..
For unlucking your device with the XTC clip there are three options:
1. google for it and buy one
2. google for somebody in your neighbourhood and ask him if he wants to unluck your device (usualy much cheeper than buying the clip yourself). You can search for those people here on xda forum as well
3. Wait for the so-called XTC CLIP PAY AS YOU GO (PAYG). it is a cheeper solution in where you can use the clip only once and you have to reload by buying credits. This third solution isn't ready for sales yet, but it shouldn't take long.
For more information about the xtc clip payg:
forums.phone-tools.cn/showthread.php/37190
You find more information about rooting and S-off there as well!
Erwin.

Perhaps let HTC know via a customer mail or something like that. They must get more and more signals that they should open up there bootloader, or people will go to other devices.
Good luck with your new phone!

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there is any app that would allow me to remote control my android from my PC when it's connected via USB, etc?
I have a few repetativ things that need to be done that may take a couple of hours on the 'droid which using a keyboard and mouse for would probably speed things up significantly.
Cheers

Hi, may be with adb connect IP (wifi)
or try WebKey app from Market
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.webkey

Remote Control Add-on may be much simpler. And you can integrate it with Remote Web Desktop for more features, such like desktop SMS, file explorer, FTP, etc.
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.xdevelop.rc
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.xdevelop.rm
That's fantastic! if only it was possible to do with unrooted phones. (Half the reason I'd love it is to assist / support others who are new to the phone
the best one ive found is this http://www.unifiedremote.com/ simple fast and can use anything ex shut down, sleep, WMP ect really good

Try LANmote, works over WIFI
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=lanmote
your solution ?
For me it is myPhonexplorer:
It is a great applikation: Work on USB, WIFI, Bluethoose
You can organize your contacts, Task, Calender, Install Applikations, transfer files, Jobmanagment for Backup Files, Screen Remote !!, Sending SMS form PC, Lotus Notes + Exchange sync ..........
For me the best and it's free !
i use it same years
a nother good Tool is Total Comander and Android ADB 5.6:
so you can:
- Apps management (Install, Uninstall and Backup your apps)
- APK icons and metadata with custom columns
- Backup and Restore on ICS
- LogCat/BugReport/Dmesg (Copy file from folder), Shell
- Reboot menu with (Reboot, Hot Boot, Recovery, Download and Power Off)
- Screenshots (Copy file from .screenshot folder)
- Multiple devices with device rename functionality (friendly name)
- Bookmarks and WiFi auto-connect
- Rooted, semi-rooted and non-rooted devices
- Full unicode support
- x32 and x64 support
- TC command line integration
- Background copy/move
- Owner and Group custom columns
- Full file system management (download/upload recursive directories, copy, delete, rename, move, edit, view, overwrite confirmation and more)
- Copy/Move between 2 devices
- Set/Get file attributes/permissions - Change Attributes action in Total Commander
- ADB USB and wireless ADB (no need to install Android SDK)
- Auto mount support
- Debug logs
- Rich settings
TeamViewer is actually quite nice. I don't like how the free version times out after a while and the first tier of a paid version is over $700.

Could always try AirDroid?
Can't include outside link as under 10 posts...
VNC is good
Seems most people here are missing the OP's question
There are a lot of responses to this person's question (albeit, an old question) that are totally missing what he wants to do.
he wants to control his phone FROM his PC. Half the apps mentioned are remote control (like a tv remote control) app for your phone that control your PC.
second, apps like Airdroid are NOT the solution he is asking for. Airdroid is not a "remote control", it is a "remote management" app.
the OP wants to send the view you see as you look at your phone, to the PC, so that it can be manipulated with the keyboard and mouse.
For those that have used teamviewer, Logmein, VNC, .. you know what what I am talking about. This is one of those things that I think many people have a hard time understanding until they see it. For the longest time I could not get my parents to understand that I could SEE their screen on my PC as if I was sitting at their PC..
For the OP, or anyone else who is finding this thread on google, there are a few options and they all seem to need root.
LANmote
VM VNC Server
android-vnc
VNC server (by wencent)
VNC Server Ultimate (might support non rooted devices)
If you own a samsung device, you can use the official team viewer app, it works flawlessly (I use it to support my parents and their GS3's)
If you start your google search or market search with VNC SERVER or similar, you will be off to a good start.

I am trying to support my Mom who has an unrooted Galaxy Note 2. Can I use this TeamViewer app? Everytime I look at it, it looks like it is Android >> Windows not the other way around. Hope you're still watching this thread.
Hello.
This is a little guide to all (misfortunate) owners of SE LiveView device. With the help of this topic, I gathered here all the information needed to solve every connection issue with HD2 Android.
I really think this should be added to the FAQ. This simple guide changes everything about LiveView experience! So, I'd like to summarize here all the steps for correcting issues, which, by the way, SHOULD have been corrected by SonyEricsson much earlier.
Below is a small guide for turning LiveView from nerve-bending hell spawn to incredibly useful device. Root is required.
(assuming your phone has CM7 or factory Gingerbread - here I'm using HD2 + AmericanAndroid CM7 2.3.4)
1) Update LV firmware to the latest one
2) Install from the market "LiveView Application 1.0.A.0.18" ONLY, do not install "LiveWare Manager"
3) Install your favorite plugins
4) Install from the market "Minfree Manager" and set "Secondary server" memory limit to 8 - 10mb (this will help LV App to stay activated all the time)
5) Insert "LiveView Application 1.0.A.0.18" to ignore list of all automatic task killers like "ES Task Manager" or "Auto memory manager"
6) Put LV into discovery mode and pair it to your phone. BT window will say "Paired but not connected", that's correct.
7) Using Root Explorer, apply the incredible patch from Fivef (this seems to be needed only for non-Sense 2.3.x ROMs - looks like Sense in 2.2 builds allows LV to connect without confirmation)
8) Find in the market & install the BEST Android program I've seen yet - "AutomateIt!"
9) Create the following rule in this program:
TRIGGER: BLUETOOTH DEVICE CONNECTED (LIVEVEW)
ACTION: START APPLICATION (LIVEVIEW)
Using this incredible program, you can completely control every aspect of your phone's behavior - for example, automatically start PlayerPro and disable WiFi when wired headset is connected, automatically start WiFi when GPS detects that you have entered your home or office (!) and do million other cool things.
By now, LiveView is set to operate completely by itself - no matter, what state is your phone in the moment, just switch the watch "on" and in a second it's connected. No more manual start of LV app, countless disconnects and unnerving connect confirmations. In fact, LV is starting to work better than SE MBW-150 used to work on WM6.5!
I suggest adding this to the FAQ, so that newcomers wouldn't have to search for days (like I had to...)
Best regards,
Draco.
Thanks for this! just tried it and it seems to be working awesome with my Atrix!
Appreciate it! Now my Liveview is somewhat more functional... now if only I could get a full day of bat out of it...
Hi guys,
Google market version is the most up-to-date.
Soon to remove the BETA tag out of it.
New Link as of 13th of October!!
Ok, file handling should be spot on now.
I've tried several different ways of sending from good sources and bad sources and I reckon I cover all the bases.
To organise some stuff I've removed the internationalisation, sorry, for now is english only, soon I'll put back the other languages.
If I managed to put the tutorial on it on the next few hours I'll update it as V0.4 on the google play, but I'm not sure it's going to happen, maybe tomorrow.
so the plan now is:
- tutorial
- tips n tricks
- logging for missing intents (maybe)
- future feature? NFC? bump? who knows.
have fun!
New Link as of 08th of October!!
Hi again guys,
I found out what was wrong on the file on the 7th, it was not the transmission or connection or even anything WiFi related. It's just that the files can come from several different sources I'm not properly dealing with them.
So here's the deal, this new build, I just blocked the files the app is not handling properly (most likely from 3rd parties galleries, and should work as expected on local files from the stock gallery). Files that are currently not handling properly should just close the app and pop-up a quick message saying "Can't handle this 'Share' at the moment, we're working on it!".
so let's recap:
- local media files from the gallery should work
- connection process is still and will always be hardware/manufacturer dependent and it might or not work.
- transmission (once passes connection) should work rock solid. Including canceling transmission midway through and also once completed tapping on the notification to open the media.
What I'll work on next:
- proper handling of every possible file/intent
- include a tutorial that will appear the 1st time the app is opened.
- a tips & tricks section with what I learned until now on what's best to get it connected.
and after that we should be in a V1.0... does it sound ok?
have fun!
New Link as of 07th of October!!
In this one I completely redid the transmission process and it's ROCK SOLID !!!!
The version on the market if you try really big videos they'll eventually fail, with this new protocol I've transferred HUGE 1.7giga video file without any problem.
Furthermore there's TONs of optimisations on the transfer speed that you won't see on this version, but it's already on the file and it will be unlocked by the future paid version that give around 2 to 3 times after transfer times.
Before put this version into the market I'll include a tutorial and link to the youtube video, but you guys can already test it.
PS.: also there's not much internationalization on this one, there some parts that language will be lacking, I'm aware of it don't need to come tell me.
Have fun!

I've doing an open beta testing of the first and only (until now) WiFi Direct sharing app available in the Google Play.
here is the link for it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.budius.WiFiShoot
I just finished refactor most of the code and should be smooth stable now.
So I'm creating this thread to invite anyone that have a FORCE CLOSE to get a Logcat and post it here for me
Please also state if it was the Sender or Receiver, the phone manufacturer/model and which ROM you're running.
Please do not post if you try to connect but the other device fail to reply, or if you device reboots when you try to switch the WiFi Direct on.
Those problems are 100% unrelated to the App itself and it's direct related to the hardware and OS on it.
Developers info:
The WiFi Direct API is 100% with callbacks. So the app just requests a connection and wait for a callback. And sometimes the callback is "failed to connect".... why this happens? is up to the OS.. the OS is responsible to all the transactions and there's no API available for any app to interfere with the process.
Hi, Nice app! It didn't force close on me at all and the UI design has a good look and feel. I just tried it with my Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus (both stock 4.1.1) and it worked. However, when launching the app to receive you might want to add a help menu or something to tell you what to do on the other device otherwise people might think to share something you need to launch the app on both devices and then share from there (this is what I did at first because I didn't watch your video!)
Is there any way you can launch the app automatically on the receiving device when the other device tries to send something? Also tapping "Shoot" to receive something is slightly odd. "Receive" or "Receive Shoot" might be better.

Yeah, the help will definitely be necessary but at the moment I'm focusing on nailing the actual software functionality. Non nexus devices not always works so nicely.
When I started developing I though about the same (auto launching) but it can't be done, unfortunately, I wanted something liked the show on last year Google io for he ask. But no, I couldn't do it without taking over ALL WiFi direct transactions on the device, which I reckon it would be bad a behavior. Maybe in the future I'll thin about it as an option for the paid version.
About the shoot.... hmmmm..... it kinda feels better to have the confirmation on the receiver, but for sure feels like the text could be different, but then the "cool factor" of it is to have that single big button with a very simple and almost graphical SHOOT, that won't even be translated to other languages.
Something to think about it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
nice app
waiting it support any file type
thanks
@Dev
Great work, any plans to expand the functionality and maybe expand to share a wireless shared connection from your laptop using direct wifi?
Sent from my htc_jewel using Tapatalk 2
Nice initiative, I am on evo 4g lte. I tried it with my laptop sony viao, installed to latest atheros utility which haves wifi direct interface.
wifi shoot found it, invited it, get connected.
I just tried to send a songs or 3gp file thru root explorer. without enabling wifi direct from setting.
In send option it shows wifi shoot. I clicked on wifi shoot.
wifi shoot connect to my laptop wifi direct. then nothing no transfer.
Great work. Very high potential. once again great initiative. Thanks.
I'm sorry but you misunderstood the function of the app.
Is a direct transfer from android device to Android device, and both devices must have the app installed. It has never been meant to be used with a laptop.

Works great! I sent a small video from my S3 to my N7 successfully. Thanks a bunch, will try a big file later.

ohh got it. both device same apps. Thanks. will test it. Sorry
My Nexus 7 and S3 don't play wel together.
What does work is using the S3 as a hotspot and then run Samba on the Galaxy S3 (Root required)
Samba takes a while to activate.. but after it does you can browse your phone using the Nexus 7 and copy stuff... no limitations on specific file extansions either.
It work great... for a picture. But I want to transfert any file I want and Wifi Shoot! doesn't appear in "Send"/"Share" menu in ES file explorer or X-Port... What can I do ?
NFC pairing would be a great addition to this app! Maybe include it in a pro version of the app and charge a small fee? I'd definitely pay for it!

It's not the first time I hear ppl saying that S3 and N7 doesn't play nice together, but on the other side, there're reports that they do work nice.
Can you both tell me which versions of the S3 you have? Some US variant or the international?
thanks.
Work great beetwin mu gnex and n7
Nice work bedalus, now we only need The ability to share every file, not only media from gallery
dropped by a jellybeans cup...
Just downloaded to both my N7 and my GNex.
I really need something like this for files. As of right now, I'm using WiFi Explorer. It works but this would be faster.
The version from the Google play store (v0.3.5) worked fine both ways with my Galaxy Nexus with JB and my bro's Galaxy Nexus with JB. We both had to looking at the program during pairing to get the notifications though.
I was able to transfer a 323 mb .mkv video file in 2:30 mins. Pretty good considering transferring the file originally to my phone took about 15 mins over wifi via a PC router.
By the way, is there any reason in particular you made it so you can only transfer pics and video files? The program would be much more useful if you could transfer any file type.
Can i use it between galaxy S and SIII?
Please, add all kind of file type. Not only image and videos, also others type (.pdf, .zip, .dat…).
Wifi shoot installed on i9100 and i9000, both devices on Rom ICS AOKP milestone 6. The process work fine only if I follow exactly the same steps on the demo video :
Receiver:
1- Open wifi shoot and wait
Sender:
2- Open the apps where the file to send is
3- Share via wifi shoot
4- wifi shoot apparears and select client to invite
Receiver:
5- Accept the invite
6- Click on big button shoot
Sending + receiving…
So, if we follow the guide of use, wifi shoot work fine. But please, add support for all kind of file type. Not only image and videos, also others type (.zip, .pdf…).
Please, continue to develop this great app, I hope one day you will be able to win money with it.
Wifi shoot are not still unique for wifi direct. There is also this apps, but not working at all for my devices.

Hi,
thanks for the reply and tests. Could you further explain, how else were you expecting it to work? DId you try some other way?
I'm currently working on a better protocol to make the transfers more reliable, after that is fine tuned I'll enable every file type, multiple files and photos that are synchronised from picasa.
wifi shoot! is a great idea ... but would be better to have some kind of server on the phone that allow to share any file to another phone or tablet. Something like an ftp server or upnp/dlna server. This way we wont have to send the files frome the phone, we will just need to request it from the other device.
I don't know how wifi direct works ... but if it works using TCP/IP the only thing we need is to know de wifi direct IP address of the phone to connect to any available ftp/smb/upnp server phone from the other phone/tablet connected via wifi direct ...
the problem is: the available servers will be bound to the external IP only or will accept requests from the wifi direct interface? maybe this willraise the need of a special server and client prepared to work via wifi direct ..
PS: sorry about my poor english
!!! updated 12/28/2012: add code to detect and use mobile hotspot to enable sharing among devices !!!
I'd like to invite people to participate an open testing session for app "PeerDeviceNet - sharing thru WiFi and WiFi-Direct".
It runs on android 2.2 and above. It is free at google play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xconns.free.peerdevicenet
I have done tests using Nexus 7, Samsung Tab 2.0, Kindle fire(1gen), Galaxy Vibrant. I'd like more complete coverage of devices and vendors.
It supports 4 kinds of device-device connections:
1. for devices at the same wifi net: start PeerDeviceNet at devices simultaneously will allow them find and connect to each other automatically.
2. for devices which are all wifi direct enabled: from system preferences, you can setup wifi direct group connection; PeerDeviceNet will pick up this group info and connect devices in group automatically.
3. if only one device is wifi direct enabled: you can use PeerDeviceNet to create a softwareAP/hotspot at this device (PeerDeviceNet->Connection settings->Create wifi direct hotspot), other wifi devices can use generated ssid and passphrase to connect.
4. for devices with mobile hotspot, you can use mobile hotspot to connect devices and enable sharing.
It extends android's "share/send" feature to allow sharing of the following data:
1. photos/videos (single or multiple) (gallery), audios(astro, solid-browser, or other browsers)
2. web pages (browsers)
3. contact info(Contacts)
4. pdf, word docs (astro or other file managers)
5. apps (google play)
I'll highly appreciate it if you can spend some time installing the app and try out some of the above scenarios. If you encounter Force Closure, please post your device info, android version, or ROM info.
Thanks!
This works fantastically between all of my devices, ranging from Ginger Bread, Honey Comb, and Jelly Bean.
WiFi hotspot also works very well.
This really is a handy app, something like this should definitely be implemented into base Android. Sharing files between devices that have NFC is a breeze, but legacy devices can be troublesome. This is an excellent solution for both worlds.

looks good
Installed and gave it a test drive.
Works perfectly on our Galaxy S III, Galaxy S II, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Xperia X8, Packard Bell Liberty Tab G100 and Wildfire S - after adding the devices manually. For some unknown reason they don't see each other, though the local LAN has no restrictions put into place.
Hi, I´ve been testing this between SGN2 N7100 (Stock Rooted) and MyTouch 4g Slide (CM9.1 R8) and it works great (no FC etc.)
I have several questions though:
a) I´d like to buy you a beer. There is a paid version but that one is far behind the free one in updates...
b) chat works great (as long as I have signal. but within a flat its mostly great). Will there be an implementation into the full version?
c) if I buy the full version, will you be updating it?
Thanks! Keep it up!
EDIT: seems to me that your app fights with anyconnect VPN (even if that one is running in background I get FC from anyconnect and superuser permissions asked all time... I´ll look into the behavior a bit closer if I find some time) else everything works good.
EDIT: after reinstall of anyconnect it works flawlessly. Keep it up!

Agree with that. It's quite painful to close an app by going into settings instead of hitting some button from the home interface.
Testing now
Downloaded and tried it..
I have a GS3 that it seems to work on, and a Nook color (the original one) from like 2 years ago running CM7 that it just gives a black screen on. I can use the regular wifi connect from the Nook and connect to the hotspot from your PeerDeviceNet but there's no sharing of data back and forth, unfortunately. If the app worked on both I'm sure it'd be much better, but I don't suspect the older Nooks will be a big percentage of your users.

Thanks for your feedback. The failure to see peer devices in LAN could be related to one issue i fixed in the latest release; please give it a try.
Also PeerDeviceNet's "search and connect" is based on peer-peer "pairing": no one is acting as server and waiting for other clients. All participating peer devices must start search at same time or in same short time period so that they can find each other. If one peer finished its searching when a new peer starts searching, the new one cannot see the one just finished. It is for security reason.

File expert is a powerful browser with many nice features. PeerDeviceNet is a totally different creature.
As a app, it plainly extends android native "sharing" protocol (send/send_multiple) to connected devices, to allow you share content from one device to another. (As a framework, it provides the components and runtime to support connected mobile apps). It has minimal GUI to support connecting devices and monitoring send/recv sessions. It has strong support for connecting multiple devices, run multiple concurrent send/recv sessions, and running in background.
So normally you will use your favorite apps to browse/view content, and when you want to share the content with another device, you hit "share" button and PeerDeviceNet will be there to help connect to other devices.
So you can use Astro file manager or Solid explorer with PeerDeviceNet to share files across devices similar to file expert.
Also PeerDeviceNet allows you share contact info, web links, or apps from google play to connected devices.

Mmm, too many button presses to get there. It would be easier to have a "Shutdown" button in the notification shade. Otherwise well done! I tested sharing files between LG Optimus 3D (p920) and Xperia Mini (st15i) connected on the same LAN. Everything worked fine.

This is a complete replica of the Galaxy Gear. Build quality is excellent, looks like they use all the same screen, shell and band (with camera) of the original GG. Sealed non-replacable battery in a relatively thin body (about 11mm, same as GG1).
It uses MTK6572, has 4G ROM (about 1.1G usable), 512MB RAM. Pity there is no microSD slot to expand the memory.
It has only one button (to switch on watch / wake screen, and be the Home button). To navigate, swipe down from top = back, swipe up from bottom = menu.
There is a true Android 4.2.2 device and not some cheapo phonewatch with Java apps. There is access to Developer's options and USB Debugging (mine was set "on" already). This allows use of ADB to install apks.
No there is no Google Play store, no built-in web browser or video player. I am sure you can install these apps manually (I dunno how to install the Google Play package and I dont intend to do that).
Yes there is wifi, bluetooth (connects to my BT keyboard and working) and GPS (not tested).
I have not really tried out the apps, but they are pretty standard ones. I have also not tested the connection manager to the phone.
What I have done is so far are:
(1) Root the watch - after many failures using MTK Droid Tools, Framaroot, eroot etc., a friend gave me a tip about this chinese root tool called Kingroot. It is very successful in rooting most if not all chinese phones particularly those using Mediatek chips.
It installs its own version of superuser called kinguser, and its own version of su binaries. I thought what the heck lets give it a try, and it rooted the watch on the first run, and has no problem since.
Kingroot download page (Google translate) - choose "Kingroot PC ..." version
The program is in chinese. Installation was full of funky unreadable characters but most of the responses eg yes / no are the highlighted buttons. After installation, there is only one button to press. Just like all other one-click root programs, enable USB debugging on the watch, plug into USB cable and click the button, and it will do it all for you. Your watch should have rebooted when the process finishes.
(2) Back up the firmware using MTK Droid Tools + SP Flash tools - I followed this guide:
http://pinoyscreencast.net/how-to/get-full-rom-dump-stock-rom-mt6572-mediatek-smartphones-using-spft-mtk-droid-root-tools/
CONCLUSION:
This is a great find!! Excellent build quality, lightyears ahead of ZGPAX and SmartQ ZWatch. The hardware is similar to the Omate Truesmart / InWatch Z, except it is 4G ROM / 512 RAM with about 1.1Gb internal memory usable. I can live with this for the price of < USD 100.
You should go and buy this watch now because it is going to sell like hot potatoes. I am not going to test all the apps or answer questions about them, because they should work the same as Omate TS.
I am NOT a developer so dont ask me to do this and that cuz I dont know how to. I only back up the firmware in case I screw the watch up.
Hope that someone more knowledgeable would buy this watch to tweak and develop it. Then you can ask him questions.
I noticed this watch as well a couple of days ago. It looks pretty good, but the thing that still concerns me is the capacity of the battery, which is only 350mAh.. What are your experiences with the battery life so far?

Thank you doner03 for the solution - keyboard on smartphone will automatically pop up when you need to type something eg. click on writing aread of notepad app, when watch is connected to phone by BT and SWatch manager (smartphone companion) app running.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53405588&postcount=16
(1) Don't bother installing a virtual keyboard on the watch - there is no input menu in Settings to change keyboard settings and set default keyboard. If you use a keyboard switcher app eg. Quick Keyboard Switch, it will force close when you run it.
(2) Although BT keyboard works with the watch, once you install SWatch manager app, the BT keyboards will stop working. You cannot delete the paired BT keyboard from the BT menu, and if you paired BT keyboard and your smartphone, it may make SWatch manager stop working. If you can use your phone to type on the watch, there is no point pairing your watch with another BT keyboard anyway.
timtop said:

The watch does not come with any virtual (onscreen) keyboard. I also discover it is NOT possible to use an onscreen keyboard, because the input functionality has been removed by the manufacturer:
If you go to Settings, there is only "Language" (normally this says "Language and Input" in the usual Android devices). There are no options to enable, change settings on, and set default to keyboards.
I googled and found a post describing how to use ADB shell to enable and set (as default) keyboards. I followed the instruction but it does not work.
I asked in that same forum (the respected Android Stack Overflow website), and I got an answer confirming my suspicion that this function has been removed on this watch.
It is not as simple as the access menu has been hidden or missing.
It would be nice to have an onscreen keyboard, and I guess either BT keyboard or phone keyboard via the phone companion app have to do!

How the hell do I type?? (sorry voice search is slow inaccurate and need BT connection). Without KB, you cannot use the watch to browse the internet or make notes etc.
The SmartDevice (maker of SmartQ ZWatch) scores in SW development - they actually think and add useful things such as (1) keyboard input (through the phone and watch companion) and (2) "auto screen on / show time when you raise your wrist to look at the watch" (by gyro sensors).
(1) keyboard problem - although I can pair BT keyboards with the watch, as soon as I pair the smartphone with SWatchManager app, I cannot get the BT keyboards to pair and work anymore.
(2) auto screen on / show time when you look at the watch - I tried both "Autoscreen on off" and "Gravity Screen" from Play store, which should provide this function. However, both apps force close when I run them. I suspect the watch only has simple gravity sensor but not the more sophisticated accelerometer and/or gyroscopic sensors.

You might need to install an older or earlier version of "Autoscreen on off" and "Gravity Screen" if available, search for it via google. You won't get it from the default app store.

The author of the above guide also mentioned this file was missing, but he found out that it was renamed to something else. download the google search .apk (newest version) to phone (i like to use the download folder in phone its makes it easyer to find in phone) with your phone open the smanager app use remote file manager
click the three white dots at the top right click send file select sdcard0 then find were you placed the google search.apk (in my case i told it to go to teh download folder) in your phone
when you find the apk click it it will bluetooth transfer the apk to your watch when it is done
Part 2 go into your watch opens apps look for file manager in watch click phone storage look for were you put the search apk (remember i used the download folder) then click the apk then it will prompt you to install app click install the there you go
p.s dont install every app you see because some apps will crash the watch even popular apps (mostly apps that look at your contacts these apps really screw the watch up) skype works but contacts in watch will no longer work once installed (untill you uninstall)gmail works chrome works google maps works (do not turn on gps you can only look at the maps you can not do a gps search with google maps) it will crash the watch gps function is kinda of a joke in this watch
or
in watch under dev options turn on usb debugging
unplug then replug in the watch to pc it will ask to turn on usb storage click it then the watch files will pop up on the pc drag the apks to the watch then just follow
part 2

yes dont try to root it its pointless at this point and risky
install google search apk it is the only app that comes close to a keyboard that can work in this watch
do not leave wifi on in watch if your not using wifi it will kill the watch very fast
i know when you first get it its a new toy and your gonna play with it for awhile but they ship the watch completely dead so let it fully charger before you play and remember if you try to use this watch as a extra android device to browse the web or emails 30 times a day and not just as a watch it will only last about 4 hours if that
If anyone wants to type on a field on the swatch, when you are on it , on the swatch manager on the phone will open a window to type on the phone keyboard , it is not necesary to have a keyboard on the swatch
