Name that keyboard... - Vega General

Well, I've been trying out a few roms lately and came across a iphone style like keyboard (chrome looking) and found it to be the best one I've tried. Sadly I can't find it.
It came installed in one of the roms on here.. so I was hoping if someone could name that keyboard?
It slides up from the bottom and back down again if thats any help???
Many thanks,
Steve

All keyboards are sliding up from the botton that doesn't really help.
Anything else you remember? Did it have cursor buttons?
Did it look like this?

I think he refers to the Tap n Tap keÿboard.

Hi.. thats the one.. I've managed to find the apk
cheers for your help.
I have to say I bought the superpad 2 and sold it within a few days.. for the extra £60 the vega is sooooooo much worth it. The superpad is slightly smaller (less of a thick bezel) but the touchscreen is crap compared to the vega. + your getting a proper 12 months warranty.

can I swap the scroll bars to the left hand side?

I wondered if anyone knew if it was possible to switch the scroll bars (for menu's, IE, contacts, messages etc) to the left hand side of the screen instead of the right? The problem is that as Im left handed I end up blocking my view of the screen with my hand in order to use the stylus on the scroll bars on the right hand edge....
Thanks.
No. Not yet anyway.

you can try the screen rotation function to rotate the other way... not left handed so not sure how it works for you.

Any news on this?
It would be very nice to have the option to change to left side

Here is some long winded B.S. I found from a Microsoft guy on why left handed doesn't yet exist. I found it while searching and came across this thread too.
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile...-hand-how-feature-prioritization-happens.aspx
I'm left handed and it's a huge pain not having the option. It has been a sole cause in me selling two other widows mobile devices before this one (Xperia) over the last 4 or 5 years because it's more troublesome than a right hander could imagine.
I'l give this a go as always but if it starts to bother me a whole lot and a solution hasnt come by then (Windows Mobile 6.5/7) then the Xperia might have to go too.
Let´s hope that more left handed users can express their opinions here and maybe in the future some great Devs can take this into his agenta of to do things!

I'm working on some things that could make something like this possible, but I'm not actively developing this right now.
I'll be thinking about it though - the problem is that it's not really built into the OS, but that doesn't mean that we couldn't emulate it.

About ROM flashing, and increase speed of the Universal

Hi Guys, I bought the Universal for quite some time now, and would like to do more advanced stuff with it. but I am kind of new to Rom flashing; I tried to find the threads to read, but there are just too much information on this web Forum(which is great thanks guys), and I can't seem to find the right Keyword to search, which Thread would you guys recommend me to read? or any main keyword I should search for ?
Thanks and have a very nice day guys.
J
Search the ROM threads...
Jwright's
Midget's
Helmi_c's
Pdaviet.
It's all very personal, fraid you're just gonna have to read up and find which is the best for you.
Hi,
I currently have an Blue Angel, but this will apply to you as well:
If your Universal is working fine, DON'T START FLASHING IMAGES!
The truth is that you MAY end up with a brick.
If you want to do "more advanced" things, why not look at all the Freeware applications you can use? Today, i.e., I got my fingers onto a Universal and tested it with my SD-Card which contains Dosbox and Windows 3.0.
You know what? It ROCKS!!! VGA is absolutly cool and speed is fine.
Think of all the DOS-Games you could run.
This is just one suggestion, but really: don't change a running system.
You read about it and it will seem simple. But if something goes wrong, you will regret it for sure.
Cheers,
vma

thanks for the advice vma, but the thing is, my Univeral is a bit too slow when it run what it comes with originally, so I think I will find a way to back up the ROM and give it a try...
Man I reply so late, because I was choked when drinking water, so the water was splited on to the keyboard, then like space bar and some other keys doesn't work, and to make the matter worst.... I try to dry it with a hair dryer, but I was watching TV.... and in 1 min it melted my keys ... so certain keys are now "forever stuck" so I am currently using a mini keyboard I had... will get anoter standard keyboard soon, this mini keyboard is making me very tried
I hope you are referring to a regular PC keyboard and not to the keyboard of your Universal!!!
Have you tried the Registry-hack's and the section on how to optimize your Universal for speed?

can someone please make a keyboard input app like the iphone for the WM devices.
the iphone really sucks BUT there is one big thing i like with it is that the software is so easy to use and so dam logical, have to give creds to the software developers at mac....

You can check Resco Keyboard 5.11 pro version. It has all the features with look and feel of iphone keyboard. Pretty finger friendly too.
I think some of the posts here are unfair.
Yes you can search but you're wasting your time. I've been looking for a better keyboard for wm for years.
PocketCMKeyboard has an old version which sort of works, sometimes a bit slow. It has some skins which are close to the iPhone style but again you'll need to search for them, find the right version, copy the right files to the right places, cross fingers and it will be okay. I used one for a while, some drawbacks but looked pretty good. Depending on the version of PocketCMKeyboard, it would bomb out with a time thing that meant you needed to download the new version straightaway. There's a new version but the skins are different and the old skins don't work with the new PocketCMKeyboard and you need to search for those as well. There isn't, I think, an iPhone skin for the new version.
The stock HTC keyboard qwerty thing is pretty good and is on a lot of the 6.1 roms. It works, looks pretty ugly but it works. There's a new 2.0 version you can search for and someone clever here is working on a qvga version. It looks a lot like the iPhone keyboard. You can serach for that as well, look out for version 2.0 rather than 1.5. It's not ready yet but we are hopeful.
Search on here sucks a lot of the time. If you think finding what you want is incredibly frustrating it's because it is. Shouting SEARCH all the time doesn't really help anyone, especially if they can't find something that matches their question.
Unfortunately, while I like my HTC Touch and enjoy tinkering with it, programming for it and trying out all sorts of registry hacks and tweaks to make it better, the market is going to run away with products like the iPhone which don't require all that extra work.
HTC + xdadevelopers + time = acceptable
Let's keep it polite.
I did one a while ago for PCM v14
You may want to try the link labeled iClone in my signature. I used much of the actual iPhone graphics and layout.

Hi,

PocketCM Keyboard
Haha, i personally think it is the hardware problem, the capacitive touchscreen will do all the trick that iphone will do. The software is partially at fault too as someone had said in this thread.

Will people need keyboards on large screens with options like shapewriter/swype ?

Hi Guys,
I'm back on XDA Forums again after straying over to maemo.org (Nokia N810 internet tablet) for a year or so. Great hardware, but software just wasn't there yet (for me) so it went to ebay as soon as I read about the HD.
Anyway, I was wondering. Given these large sensitive screens and new input methods like shapewriter & swype on the way (if they ever get round to releasing them), do you really think a real qwery keyboard will still be a requirement for most people.
I'm an ex Universal owner (still got it, but needs fixing). But having seen the demo's of shapewriter etc. and having played around with a couple of examples on my Tablet PC, I'm really excited about these sliding based input options. I reckon 50+ words a minute looks quite manageable with very little training.
I don't think I will miss the qwerty input except when entering very technical stuff (things that would not be recognised by the dictionary).
What do you guys think ?

Well in that case...
I have to say though that the keys on the DiNovo Mini are quite small even though the device itself is quite big (it's bigger than an HD) so not something you'd want to carry round with you or type large amounts of text with. Handy for occasional use, but then again if you're only using it occasionally you might as well stick with the various software keyboards that are available.

I am glad you all liked the concept you have seen. Because unlike Swype and which is only an idea for now, and Shapewriter which isn't much of a use in the ihone, there is a company who also manifested this idea and it is available for the public allready. I found it in some forum a few weeks ago, and since then I am simply amazed.
It's called SlideIT, has free demos.

I'm not sure I like the layout of the keyboard. what's up with that "pizza pie" format?
That's a bit weird.
The added graffiti recognition feature is pretty cool.
I owned an HTC Universal too, but to be honest, hardly use the keyboard.
HI, following your comments i started evaluating the demo version of slideIT for curiosity...simply amazing, i am tempted to buy it but i will wait for the HD to make sure it works OK on 800x480. I make much fewer errors than with normal soft keyboards, and in a few trials i realized i am equally fast...i couldn't believe it myself.
Indeed, the pen is mandatory...but so what?
...anybody which had tried swype? as far as i understand, the software doesn't exist yet...

Nope, both shapewriter and swype don't exist for WM yet. If you own an iPhone you could get a free copy of shapewriter on iTunes.
I'm wondering what is swype waiting for. We've all seen the software being used on videos on youtube. So what's with the delay of the release?

I'm wondering what is swype waiting for. We've all seen the software being used on videos on youtube. So what's with the delay of the release?

Yes, I find it really frustrating. I've had a tablet pc for several months now and the only thing I find problematic is data input.
Shark was around years ago, but they pulled it to go commercial with ShapeWriter (you can't get hold of the old Shark beta software anymore).
Swype has obviously been around in beta for quite some time as well, but again not for the public. In the demos, I'm sure I've seen it running on windows mobile.
I took a quick look at slide it, but personally, I'm only interested in the slide input and SlideIt seams to have put too much effort into the "three input methods". I'm more interested in the realestate being dedicated to a single input method with large buttons.
Also I get the feeling that swype/shapewriter have better algorithms for "sloppy" input.
Finally, SlideIT is Windows Mobile only. I want a common input method on my tablet and my PDA.
I do wonder if both camps are holding back while thier legal teams sort out where they stand on patents etc.
Just my thoughts...

Did you manage to get Divo Mini Logitech keyboard to work with the HD?
If it does that wiould be the perfect combination for me. Hopefully you can balance the HD on the cover as well.
Comments would be greatly appreciated!

it looks very interesting look at: http://www.snapkeys.com/
but i cant find an eval or beta?
Looks just like an iphone keyboard. Wait, hold on. I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
It's not going to be in the market. Check the FAQs of the webpage. lol,
Guess you didn't watch the video, its completely transparent.
Meh i'd try it out for a few days, thanks for the link.
Seems its only good for people who too used to screen typing...would be difficult to use for normal people
seems pretty cool im currently using the thumb keyboard. its ehhh.
I'd prefer some kind of wireless neural interface. If I can't have that then I'm not interested.

snapkeys keyless keyboard
hi
just a few month and its will be on the market my friend !!
9 months later, still no app. I guess they're working out how they can extort every last penny out of it when it's finally released to the public.
wow, that looks really.... confusing.
Where are the numbers and punctuation? Shift key?
"Invisible keyboard. See the possibilities" -haha, thats funny
"QWERTY LIKE IS A DYNOSAURE" - and no spull chicking or predictive text?
or, maybe because its invisible, its already on our phones right now.... but invisible.
