Bluetooth Tethering on Atrix - Atrix 4G General

I have searched the forum far and wide and so far haven't found anything on this. Is it a possiblity to tether over bluetooth on the Atrix? I currently pay for tethering but using the mobile hotspot feature chews battery life up 10 fold. Any thoughts or ideas on this??

Plug your phone in??

"Wireless Tether for root users" allows Bluetooth Tether.

Did you ever get an answer to the tethering issue??? I can't tether my Xoom either. wifi works fine, But i'd rather use the BT.... Rooted 1.8.3 GB 3.1

I have successfully enabled Bluetooth tethering on my atrix 4g from my windows 7 x64 computer. Basically i did the following.
1) Install wireless tethering application 2.0.7
2) Under settings in wireless tether, navigate to Bluetooth, then make sure use Bluetooth is checked. Also check don't disable Wi-Fi. Also if you haven't paired check make discoverable.
3) click on the wireless icon to enable tethering.
4) from your computers Bluetooth software, enable Bluetooth Dun.
5) add new connection from Bluetooth software, pair with atrix, it should connect, and you will see a yellow shield pop up on the Atrix with the computers ip address, which means the connection is made. After 30 seconds or so, internet should be enabled on the windows 7 computer.
I hope this helps!

Hey thanks a lot! Ill give that a try first thing tomorrow.

Unfortunately, this did not work for me. When I loaded the wireless tethering app it said that my kernel does not allow me access control or something along those lines. Yes, I'm rooted so I guess that's not the issue. Also, when I paired my phone with my computer, the only option it gave me was for bluetooth file transfer and not DUN. Any ideas? Oh yeah, I'm running Mac OSX but that shouldn't make a difference. (?)

Wifi tether and windows 7 x64

Does anyone have wifi tether working on windows 7x64? I have tried that and barnacle and my comp can see them both but times out while trying to connect. Sits there for several minutes and says it can't connect.

I had an problem connecting once, but realized that when i was doing some work with vpn's and ports i decided to disable adhoc on my personal wireless card.
To see if it may be disabled on your machine click on start menu, right click computer and go to manage, then click device manager, under network adapters find your wireless adapter and right click and go to properties. Now go to the advanced tab to see if there is anything in there that says adhoc and if it is possible to enable it....
Like I said, I managed to disable mine and all it took was a re-enable to get it back working correctly.
Good luck either way.
Mine works fine too...make sure you are running the latest version of Android Wifi Tether (pre9 - pre13 generally work)..also try running the Internet browser on the phone after you connect.
Also if you are not on Froyo there is the Mobile AP option for Infer-structure tethering.
Working here too. I'm using the SyndicateROM 1.02. It comes with wifi tethering pre11.
The steps I took:
1) Renamed my wifi SSID
2) Added a security key, 13 characters exactly
3) In Win7x64, I manually added the wifi and for the security key, I chose WEP and entered the key.
I could be on 3G or 4G and wifi tethering works without a hitch.

Does your laptop have an Intel card? I am unable to connect with my Intel 6200-based WiFi adapter on my Sony Z. It worked ONCE a while back, but updates seem to have messed this up rather permanently. Other machines that aren't based on Intel seem to work quite peachily.

Anyone use barnacle wifi and for it working?

Anyone using barnacle wifi on mytouch and able to actually tether? I know about wifi tether built into the phone or the wireless tether app. Those work fine, I want to use barnacle because of its open NAT. So no critics please. I just need someone that got it to work because my device can see it, but barnacle won't show me its connected or that its a client
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I have it installed and configured, but can't get anything to connect to it. The SSID broadcasts, but it shows up as an available "device" vs. a wifi network. I try to connect by with and without WEP (Barnacle says it failed to parse WEP if security enabled), and it appears to connect, but Barnacle shows no client connections and no access from the other device.
Just using the android wifi tether app instead...

Hi there
I use Wifi tether for root users, looks and works better than Barnacle
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Which version have are you using?
None of them specify MT4G.
I have a rooted Mytouch 4g running 2.2 and was able to get "Android-wifi-tether" working using the version for the Samsung Fascinate 2.x. Its the last option at the link h4xdaplanet provided.
I cant provide a direct link since I have a new account, sorry.
Thanks
I actually got this one to work a while ago but forgot to update

I am using to built in hot spot with no issues at all, before and after root. Not a stupid question. As long as you have the data plan, afaik, there is no current extra cost for using wired or wireless tethering. Hope this helps.

Anyway to use tethering...without paying twenty a month?

I am new to android..my coworkers and I would really love to have wifi in the office....but not twenty a month.is it possible to get around this?

Of course! Just root your phone (search "z4root" [on XDA] for the easy way), and then install Android Wireless Tether from the market.
I would say do what was mentioned but instead download Barnacle Wifi Tether.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Barnacle is an ad hoc setup and some devices have a hard time tethering with it. Wireless Tether is far superior especially with its latest update which allows a better truer connection than ad hoc.

Barnacle worked great on my D1, but I've never got it working consistently on my DX. Wireless Tether on the other hand works every time.
I use both barnacle and wireless tether. I did a bunch of speed tests and wireless does fair a bit better. I get about 8% faster dl speeds with wireless 2.6 vs 2.4 and the latency was about twice as quick, 135 vs 250. Up is about the same regardless which i use.
I also have issues with some devices not seeing barnacle, my laptop sees it fine while my desktop does not.
However with wireless tether my connections stalls out sometimes when my phone sleeps, it happens occasionally with barnacle but not nearly as often. So for me I use barnacle when streaming movies from Netflix or hulu and wireless tether the rest of the time.
Beamed from my robot X using the XDA app
I would also suggest wireless tether as it now supports infrastructure mode.
Dont have to root, just turn on 3g then toggle on airplane mode then toggle it back off, free tethering!!
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
they are both basically the same thing but wireless tether now supports infrastructure mode! so now its more like a router than a wireless hotspot app. and i dont think z4root is on the market, so here is a link. download it from your phone and use astro to navigate to download and install it.
when you open the link it will automatically download. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=446145&d=1290341328

The TBH hack is the same as the new Wireless Tether, they both have infrastructure. Wireless Tether is no longer ad hoc.
There is a wired tether aswell if you prefer to use a usb connection. Avaible AFTER your phone is rooted of course

I actually tried a variant of this, posted on the first page of this thread, where you open hotspot tether then turn airplane mode on then off. I'm able to keep the hotspot connection going, but it isn't working with my computer. It recognizes the phone but shows a big red X going from my computer to the Internet.
I'm only posting this because I'm wondering if something might have changed recently that the functionality has been blocked.

PDA.NET seems to be the only one that keeps a constance speed. You can tether with USB or Bluetooth. I perfer it of all the other wifi thethers. The wifi one's speed seem to drop after 5 mins or so of using.

The issue arises if you're trying to tether an android tablet. They won't use ad hoc out of the box.

Android WIFI Tether should works great for me. I am able to do the wpasuplicant authentication again as well. This app is no longer in the android market so you will have to download direct from the source. There is an updated beta version which does work in CM7 7/17 release.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta2.apk&can=2&q=
No offense, but I feel Barnacle is crap. It is one of the only WIFI tether apps that is unable to do WPA authentication. WEP can be cracked in under 5 minutes with open source tools which leaves you vulnerable to man in the middle attacks. The CM7 hotspot even does WPA.

Bluetooth pairs but won't connect

I have successfully paired my nexus 7 to my evo 3d and my HP laptop. However, it will not connect to either one. There is no connect option visible either. Both the laptop and my evo 3d connect fine to each other and other Bluetooth devices. Is my nexus 7 faulty or am I missing something?
Edit: ok it connects fine to my Bluetooth headphones, so why won't it connect to my phone or my laptop?

Not sure if this helps, but I have Verizon and it seems that they block Bluetooth tethering while on 4G LTE. I could get my phone and nexus 7 to pair, but wouldn't connect. However when I switches my phone to 3G, my tablet and phone connected no problem. Its nice BC when they are connected your tablet automatically uses your phones internet. If I just want to use 3G, I go this route. When I want to connect them while my phone is on 4G LTE, I have to use foxfi/pdanet.
In other words connecting while the phone is on 4G seems to be blocked. Switch to 3G and see if that doesn't work to connect.
Hope this helps.

I have the same issue as you. It may be that our phone don't have the right BT Profile for "Internet Access".
Are there any other options? I've tried FoxFi and that didn't create the "Internet Access" profile either. I'm on a Samsung Stratosphere with 2.3.

I have also been trying to tether my new Nexus 7 with my old Xperia X10 mini. I can pair but not connect. I can't access my Bluetooth settings on my Nexus. I can't pass files vie Bump either. I can't get the wifi tether to the phone working either: My phone doesn't allow me to download Foxfi, my phone says PDAnet doesn't work on my version of Android. I bought the Nexus in the UK but I'm using it in Germany. My phone is with O2 which typically requires an additional €20 charge to tether. Any advice would be appreciated.
I think you folks are missing a setting?
Hi
Aside from pairing, on the device whose connection is being shared (i.e the phone), you need to goto settings-->More-->Tethering And Portable Hotspot, and make sure that 'bluetooth tethering' is selected.
This works on my Galaxy Note. 4.04 ICS
No 3rd party apps are required to do this. Note that Bluetooth PAN only came to android in 3.0. If your phone runs 2.3x or below, you'll need the software discussed elsewhere in this thread to make BT tethering work.
Whatever internet connection the phone has is shared, whether wifi or 3g
NB: Its a bit flakey! OK once connected, but requires BT to be cycled off/on on both ends...

Theres a wee bug in android where after a new pair, restart, or occasionally on bluetooth disconnections bluetooth tethering will become disabled on the host device.
Go to the device with the Internet Connection and (on ICS / JB) hit Settings -> More -> Tethering & portable hotspot -> Bluetooth tething and check it.
You'll have to redo this regularly but combined with an occasional bluetooth off/on unpair / repair this will work.
(Nexus 7 / Galaxy Nexus - both rooted stock)
Hi
If you don't have the screen below (or equiv) mentioned in my previous post, then you wont be able to tether without using 3rd party apps. I guess the BT PAN profile is missing where this option is not available.

Thanks for this. All was working fine between my UK (stock European with a few Vodafone apps) Samsung Galaxy S3 (SIII) and Note 10.1 until I upgraded to 4.1.1 on my S3. It seems this option was added then or disabled by default. All working splendidly now, cheers.
Droid Razr Nexus 7 connection
All,
You can tether the 4G LTE on a nexus 7 you just have to enable bluetooth tetheriing in Setting > Tethering & Mobile Hotspot > Bluetooth tethering
Without doing this, it won't link via bluetooth tethering. As for laptop, you have to allow access point in your laptop in order to allow the Nexus 7 to fully connect to your laptop to share files.
Cheers!
This thread has the most similar problems that I have. By me the problem is opposite. I need to get internet connection on my phone (xperia U) and the only way is through tethering through my iphones hotspot. Bluetooth says paired but not connected and wifi hotspot isn't found in the list of wifi networks.
Bluetooth tethering worked fine on ICS but I downgraded to GB and now nothing. I can't install 3rd party apps yet because no internet on phone.
Is there no other option? Is it either GB, lag free phone but no tethering option or laggy ICS phone with tethering??
