My xoom seems to struggle navigating through xda. It is very slow and laggy and very tough trying to navigate through the site. Anyone else suffer through this ?
Thanks for any feedback.
how long have you had it?
What browser are you using?
Mine was horribly laggy for a day or two after I got it. I couldnt believe this tegra 2 device couldnt hang with my evo??
After a few days it really smoothed out in several ways, especially browsing the web.
Now it owns my evo, as it should
Go to the bottom of any FDA page and set viewing to "xda classic". Fixes the laggy experience.

Have to second that. opera works in web mode fine with all of the forums that I've tried..
Mine was slow as heck at first but after a day or two it started running great in stock browser, it coincided with my installing flash but I highly doubt it's related.

You can got to Settings ---> Applications ---> Browser ---> Clear cache. Did this couple of days ago and the browser seems scroll much smother.
You can also set Enable plug-ins in Browser advance settings to on demand. this will stop browser automatically loading flash contents.

Yeh, like I said though, mine started slow and got faster, I didnt clear cache and didn't turn anything off or chance any settings, all I did was install flash. Weird, but I'm happy with the performance so far.

Astonishing how much this setting helps. I recently switched to that a few days ago and I can now enjoy XDA on my tablet.
(While I'm a huge proponent for using Opera Mobile on Android 2.x, I don't like it for Honeycomb because it doesn't follow the normal text selection conventions in the OS and it isn't (yet) HW accelerated to my knowledge. Barring XDA 2010 theme on the XDA site, I get much better performance from the HC stock browser than Opera Mobile when on my tablet.)
Likewise, thanks for the tip on changing it to xda classic. Scrolling is much smoother on the stock browser now.
Thanks for all the advise and help really do appreciate it. I changed setting to classic and WOW makes a huge difference. I've had my xoom few weeks since it came out and love it. This was one of my complains because my brother owns an ipad and he uses my xoom to navigate through xda and always complains, now that is fixed Once Again THANKS ALL
The xda donate version (I thinks its offically called the premium app) works well on xoom.
Sent from my Xoom the way it should be, rooted and with SD card.
i had the laggy xda site too after i installed flash. Once I set web pages to use plugins on demand, (settings -> advanced -> enable plugins -> on demand), thepages load much faster and scroll smoothly. I think it was all the flash-based ads that were making the browser slow down.
I've noticed this helped other sites as well, so if you are experiencing browser lag on other sites, try this method. Hope it helps!
I had a similar experience with my Acer A500. Thanks for the suggestion about using the classic theme. With the XDA 2010 theme even entering text was a laggy chore, and that is with plugins set to on-demand. Switching to the classic theme solved the lag, and has made posting much more pleasant. I will share this information over in our neck of the woods.
i've also noticed that portrait scrolls better than landscape.
Thanks for the "XDA Classic Theme" tip!

With the changes to WebView and 3.1's updated CSS support, I believe it's corrected many of the issues with XDA's forums on the Xoom.
I loaded it up and it's running 10x better. I can finally scroll smoothly through the forums without having to resort to the 'XDA Classic' theme.
This is great
But if on the verizon network, the forums suck up data quick with advertisements and peoples unnecissary footers.

my ability to enter texts in the forums after upgrade stinks. Such a lag when typing to words being displayed
Browser rendering in general is much improved.
The vBulletin typing on sites like XDA is still unbearably laggy. There's a 2 second delay between key press and the letter appearing.

Glad I have seen this thx, thought my xoom was laggy, but if iit is ononly xda.......happy days.Except the whole double lletter ttyping tthing.... is there a fix for that?
i was gonna say the opposite really. Browsing these forums is unbeleivably laggy and typing messages is horrendous.
I was thinking maybe that was an issue with using the us software on my xoom, but I guess not.
Using Opera MINI on problem forums , seems to solve the input lag.
Hopefully the stock browser someday will work better.
browser is ok with the forums but the app always fc's when i login then try to open a thread
deleting text in a reply box is a nightmare
My experiences are similar. The text inputs are terrible... but with 3.1, the forum page rendering is much faster.
by the way, is it just me or it is common issue that my xda app downloaded from the Market ALWAYS fc if I logged in then next time I open it, I am guest in that app again...
In that way it successfully blocked every my effort to log in or save a favourite forum in my xoom through that app...
Any fix to this?
Thanks!
things are laggy. Actually suck. Before update it ran much better!! When I scroll down a page i get pink boxes really bad!! :-(
Pink boxes? The update actually made your device slower? Maybe you need to preform a factory reset

At the bottom of the forums switch the view to XDA Classic. It isn't laggy at all for me after doing this.
I'm using the TDR 3.1 rooted kernel and the keyboard is fine. I experienced the lag on the BRD 3.1 rooted kernel. The TDR supports over-clocking and I just flipped that on, works great. I also use the SlideIT soft keyboard which is working nicely. I was having problems with long posts on phpbb forums before 3.1 which is no longer a problem, yay. Things are looking up.
Is there a fix for this yet?
I can't type on forums or anything, even filling out forms is a general pain.
Luckily I have tapatalk but that still shouldn't mean I have to suffer in the browser department
It seems to happen sporadically with me. Really is annoying when it's happening though. Might be an issue with a background service taking priority.

I can confirm this. It seems to be a problem with the way the stock browser is built. Some of the third party browsers borrow from Google's code, so they'll suffer from a lot of the same issues until Google resolves it. Browsers built on a completely different engine won't suffer from the same issues.
If anything I prefer Opera Mobile anyway for its ability to render pages faster.

Nope does not help. The only reason why i have my agent on desktop instead of tablet is because some videos on youtube site will not play if you're browser is set to tablet.
the gl fix didn't really do anything for me.
I have owned every tablet and the asus so far stands a cut above the rest
...........
I've tried all the fixes...some are better than others...I've tried all the browsers...nothing put a real stop to it until I started using Firefox 5 beta.
No lag whatsoever. None. Not even a hint.
But give up flash. Tons of lag as itype this. Lol.
Same problem here.. I was showing off my TF to my Bro who has an Ipad2.. he was so impressed and I was so happy until the physical keyboard lagged as he typed on his facebook.
Any fix yet??
So obviously I go to XDA everyday to look up information and post things. Well this has been huge chore for me with this device.
First off I have found that the dolphin browser slightly edges out the android browser for being the fastest. Even the dolphin browser can't handle quick replies and posting from the XDA 2010 browser very well. When I switch to the classic theme I am able to get more done. If I try to blaze away in the the 2010 theme I will get double button pushes and a ton of mis spellings.
This brings me to my next gripe. Say I write a block of text in a quick reply window and there are mis spellings (which there will be with a software keyboard) trying to fix these mistakes makes me want to throw my tablet at the guy sitting behind me a work. The little green arrow never lines up with the cursor, and when I go to move the cursor it is just all over the place and 2 seconds behind my finger presses on the screen.
I would remedy all of this by using the XDA App but it crashes constantly.
Also trying to do things such as login to Facebook and browse around make the device want to roll over and die. JESUS MY CELL PHONE HANDLES FULL HTML WEBSITES. I can honestly say that if the text editing were better I could live with not being able to run the 2010 theme. But why the hell does Facebook chug so hard? And why cant this damn thing load the 2010 theme???? Its a text website with minimal pictures!!!
so LOL
In editing that last post I realized that even though the arrow doesn't line up with the cursor it still functions correctly, you just have to deal with its random behaviour I guess. Also if you zoom considerably it helps a lot with text editing. Who woulda thought?
This still doesn't explain the poor performance on a lot of websites.

The XDA app is working fine for me, and judging by other people's signatures, it's the same for them too.
On the other hand, the general browser stability is pretty poor over all. Dolphin and the stock browser will just quit on me without warning. I was loving Moreno browser on my phone (Droid X), but, while it renders perfectly well, it FCs too much.

I use opera, no real issues except with load time which feels slower.
As for keyboard I'm using the hacker's keyboard. I love it more than ASUS or default.
You can draw the green arrow around after it appears if you're having issues getting it to position correctly.
I had a problems with XDA where I could not navigate to the previous page.
Most site work fine but on XDA and Yahoo when I hit the back button, it only refresh the current page and stay there. This is both the default and Dolphin HD browser.
The only one that let me navigate to previous page is Opera, I use it when I don't need flash.
On a positive note I just update to Prime v1.4 ROM today and it seems to be much better. It's letting me navigate back.

Im using the prime rom as well and haven't experienced any force closes or problems navigating back. Only the editing problems and overall slowness.
It feels like I'm using Windows 98 with Internet Explorer 6.
That said, most problems can be solved by rebooting.
Its a shame this is such a miss, given it's the primary reason for the device to exist for many people.
I can say it got significantly better with the 3.1 update and a modded rom, but its still not where it should be.

I did too, back when everyone was 3.0.1. The zoom and a500 played smooth in YouTube app while my TF struggled, although my video quality was much better.
I wondered if zoom and a500 had different HQ settings, wondered if all were actually using 720p, if HQ mode was really 720p for all the devices, or some were 480p scaled to 720p. That would explain to me any performance differences. With 3.1, this now called HD.
My YouTube app at 720p full screen on TF 3.1 is very good, no need to O/C to improve this app. Browser is another story, but I'm not convinced it uses H/W acceleration (yet).

Interesting thoughts. The responsiveness increase I noticed was in stock browser and home screen usage.
Just an update.
I am currently using Opera forced in desktop mode only. This is the fastest scolling and zooming browser there is. The only thing I hate is how opera functions when selecting text off of a page to copy. It is really cheap. I also like the fact that I can add any search engine to the browser. I couldnt stand how every time I did a Google search it would search through Google mobile, so I just added the main Google search and all was fixed.
Typing on forums has been a breeze for the most part with opera, now if I can just find a way to use the Native copy and paste on web pages it will be almost perfect. At least when editing text or web page URLs it uses the native highlight feature.
I gave up. I really hope by tf2 both device and os have ironed out kinks.
I'm going to start by saying I absolutely love my transformer... and am definetly going to stay and hope the platform will grow. But I don't think anyone will argue that browsing on it is not the same as a computer or even netbook. My grandma has a 400 dollar netbook and Still it outperformed the transformer. Im running Prime 1.4, overclocked to 1.6 and still it is not enough. Sites don't load correctly, things don't click, and just other stuff just doesn't work as it does on a real PC.
So my question is Do you guys think well ever get a full fledged browsing experience? I no this isn't a computer but it should be able to browse like one I think. And do you guys think these issues are more honeycomb related then hardware?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Sometimes things don't click because a lot of websites aren't exactly optimized for touches. Same reason we have problems with things that require mouse-hover functions.
Currently it's "good enough" for me, personally.
I've got a question regarding browser performance. Using the stock browser, when I scroll down a web page, there is a very noticeable lag in the newly exposed section filling in. For example, when I scroll down an XDA forum, the bottom of my screen is a blank brown/tan for a moment before anything loads. I tested the same sites on my dual core phone and there were no delays or visible blank spots when scrolling -it looks continous and smooth whereas the Transformer appears to be slowly loading each new section. I'm on my second unit and don't recall it being nearly as bad on the first. My keyboard lag is also ridiculous.
Is this experience common or do I again have a defective Transformer
That's common, try switching to xda classic at the bottom if you can't tolerate it. There its the xda app too.
i thinks its eather asus custome UI, even though its pretty vanilla, its still laggier than stock. that and HC is a bit laggier than phone ver. of Android. Just gotta wait for updates i guess.
Did I hear that hardware accerlation in the browser could b in I've cream sandwich? That will help surely.
Have to say I agree. My partner is getting pissed off with it as we sold our netbook for Thursday tf.

i feel you with the things dont click, this is a problem with touch screens across all devices, other wise for a tablet the browsing is great. you shouldnt expect it to be up to par with a full operating system such as windows....yet
try opera browser instead
Opera does not support flash, but Flash in general is bad on Honeycomb, so you could argue that no browsers support it...
Opera has stated that it is because of Google not releasing the sources to Honeycomb, but that should change with Icecream Sandwitch (unless Google changes its mind again). It will take a while, early next year at the soonest.
If you can live without flash, Opera is indeed the best browser of the bunch.
I bet any tablet has that screen draw issue in browsers, my iPad does the same thing but instead of blank it's a checkerboard pattern, never really bugged me too much. I'm like Dolphin HD so far, I did really like Opera but it has a problem that makes me not use it. I like to use the trackpad with 2 finger swipe to move the page around which works fine in other browsers, butin Opera it's like a gesture that does some wierd thing so I quit using it.

I use opera mobile to open forums. smooth scrolling and no laggy page drawing. only use flash supported browser to stream videos.
i was annoyed by the slow browsing experience also using dolphin hd but i found that if you turn off JavaScript it significantly speeds up page loading.
Patience is a virtue...
Web browsing on android has came a very far way in just a few years. Microsoft had decades to optimize windows for browsing the web, android (especially honeycomb) just came into the game.
Web browsing works remarkably well when take into account that android (Once again, especially honeycomb) is still very much a premature OS still trying to iron out and optimize.
Don't get caught up in all the hype revolving around the hardware in android phones and benchmarks, etc. The hardware has never been the problem, once the software gets optimized and focused on web browsing will be just as good or even surpass OSx, ios and windows.
Links that don't react to clicking is probably not a touch screen problem but a bug in browser. In Dolphine when i use long tap and select "open in new window" it still doesn't open them many times. And new Dolphine proibably uses stack browser for viewing pages because it has the same problems as the stock browser.
Has anyone tried SkyFire? I t works quite well on my HD2 and has Flash support
You just have to try opera mobile! It is indeed the best brouwser for the transformer.
Yeah opera moblie seems to be the like the fastest browser among the stock and dolphina, but I don't heard alot of people complaining about the small font size. Am I crazy but the font is way to small on opera. So no one has issues with it? Increasing the font size from 9 to 12 does help but its not perfect.
Opera mobile not playing flash is a deal breaker. Fix it and most will move to opera.

Pretty much true.
The only exception, and I've seen this on other sites, are the pages that have large rotating images (JavaScript, not Flash) that fade in and out.
Those pages sometimes experience slowdowns... other than that, both sites are completely smooth for me. (Odexed JVR)

Perhaps your rom is deodexed. Most deodexed browsers lag. Try using dolphinn browser or opera mobile. Opera isn't as good as dolphin, but it allows you to download from sites like filesonic.
mate i've been over different roms, and different kernels, overclocking etc. There's just some pages where it has always lagged for me. Most seem to be ok, but some are just impossible.. Usually use stock browser, have tried others but for some sites dont think it really matters, it's going to lag either way.
There's an australian footy site over here which has a bit of flash content etc and it takes ages to load even on wifi and can lag bigtime at times. Would be extremely impressed (and jealous) if anyone doesn't have lag on their phones on it.

Yeah some pages the phone with stock browser (or dolphin hd) just can't handle smoothly. Too much going on, need more power like in the SGS2 to really handle it (opera might be better than stock or dolphin hd but I didn't like the interface when I tried it). IIRC the SGS2 has enough juice to play embedded 720p flash video, where 320p is a stretch for the SGS.

Definitely a lot going on at that page. It probably took a solid 10 seconds to fully load it on Wifi, haha. Surprisingly, there were a couple hiccups while it was loading on my phone—but only three very minor hesitations in scrolling in the entire 10 seconds of load time.
Sounds like you guys just need to tweak your phones a little.
With my SGS I get lag in the stock browser, where my Atrix is fine (which I'm guessing has to do with the extra ram).
For any sites on my SGS that lag, (which does include XDA at times) I try to go Opera Mobile whenever possible and that usually is enough for me...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
The browser lags on aforementioned websites. I also experience lag on phonearena.com, pocketnow.com and rebtel.com. This might be related to the ram problem.
The sites don't lag on my zte blade which has 512 MB too. But maybe that has more free ram.
Wonder if galaxy S plus suffers from the same problem. Anyone have experience with SGS Plus or have heard anything about this?

yeh it's a heavy site, thought there would of been some problems. but seems yours performed still a bit better than mine. hopefully will get it worked out sometime.
Nothing wrong with your phones dudes, more that enough firepower to browse smoothly.
Just poorly optimized coding imo. To prove this you need to try Opera Mobile.
Same phone, same websites, different browser, NO LAG WHATSOEVER.
- no lag scrolling even while loading
- no lag zooming even while loading
- no lag whatsoever anywhere including that site www.afl.com.au (it just takes a while to load cos its huge, but no lag still)
- flash works great (this MAY lag a bit but that's flash for you on this phone, not opera's fault)
Doesn't matter what android version/kernel you're running either. I tried almost every rom/kernel combo out there (2.2.x, 2.3.x, custom, stock, semaphore, darky, talon, etc), makes no difference for this, really.
That said, other developers need to work better on their software. Opera has just proven it's perfectly possible to browse lag-free and it's not the hardware that's lacking. Although, to be fair, i'm not sure what more could i ask from a browser that opera doesn't provide already.
Interesting one of the sites that lagged really bad in dolphin hd, canadacomputers.com, was much smoother in the stock browser. Odd I though they were pretty the same, although I do notice that stock browser does the white/grey checkerboard thing (also the thing where zooming in blurs until it 're-renders') while dolphin does not. I hate how 'tabs' work in the stock browser though, maybe I'll give opera another shot.
