Tmobile sent me the trottle message and I've been tethering but... - G2 and Desire Z General

So I got the message today after... 6 gigs I thing, the usage is because my house uverse service got messed up and I've been 3 weeks tethering from the phone so that's why, anyhow so I got the message but the speeds seem just normal and not any noticeable speed slow down... why is thhis? Did tmobile finaly realize that the speeds when trottled before where ridiculously slow? Or I'm just lucky? And... like said previously I've been tethering these past3 weeks, and for what I undeerstand since tmobile now charges for it, first I should have gotten a page saying this and blah blah and to suscribe... but that didn't happen, so my question is... should I expect the 15 extra bucks on my next bill? Or not? Thanks people!

This has been asked numerous times, but it's just a matter of sometimes you will get throttled and other times you won't. Be happy and enjoy it.

Maybe they switched to 10 GB.

Free T-Mobile MSG: You have used over 5 GB of data this month. Your data speed has been reduced for the rest of your billing cycle per the terms of your plan....<---is this a good thing or bad thing LOL

How could it possibly be good? You're being throttled back to EDGE speeds for the rest of your billing period.

You cant do anything about it, you will be stuck on slow 2G speeds till your next cycle.

You should try cskigen's throttle patch and see if it works. Its posted somewhere in the royalglacier thread. Ivr got it on my phone but I havent gone over 5 gb this month yet so im curious to know.
I wonder if its from flashing a diff radio bcuz I never went over 5gb

I guess I just have good luck... Never got that message, and for this month Im sitting on 6.37GB. I did however get a call from the ISP the other day. Basically they wanna know what Im using to eat 2TB+ a month.

I'm pretty sure if you have a grandfathered data plan before they began throttling at 5gb you don't have a cap at all. How long have you had your data plan?
Edit: I'm pretty sure it was a T-Mobile CSR that said in here there is a checkbox on your account for throttled or not and if you had a plan before they began throttling at 5gb they didn't throttle you.
No telling, I've been with tmo since the powertel days. Im paying 20.00 for "unlimited android web" on the 3000 minute promo plan.

Tmobile and the damn data speed throttling

For the first time ever I hit 2gb in one month and then tmobile throttled my speed down to something between edge and 3g...
just for a tip to anyone out there, if you have wifi at home then use wifi while you are at home. I am only throttled from 17th-19th (new billing cycle) but it sucks bad...
That's a bummer. I'm stoked that I have Wi-Fi at home AND work that I tap into. I rarely have to use my data so I don't have that fear of going over. I hope that I never get into a situation where this happens.

I also had the displeasure of being throttled last month. I make it a point to turn on WiFi when I'm at home so that it doesn't happen again. This sucks, considering a lot of apps are using large amounts of data these days. :/
Its only a 2 gig limit for newer customers right? Us oldie customers still get up to 5 I hope!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Just an idea for those who haven't considered, you can use apps like Tasker or AutomateIt (free) to automatically turn on wifi when at home using location-based triggers and things like that.
u guys think u had it bad,, i used two gigs of data withing a week of my bill cuz i had to tether to my laptop. so im stuck with this like edge **** for the rest of the month...
Your 2 gig cap is the data feature you have, you can upgrade it to a 5 gig cap if you pay $10 more a month, or you could go with the outrageous 10gig cap for an extra $40 a month on top of what your paying now, wifi is your best bet. Throttled speeds are around 50-100kbps, but hey it beats overages any day

Ok so what if I just have the unlimited grandfathered that I have had for the past five years? Is it now magically just a 2 gig limit instead of the five it always used to be?

Well I haven't touched a thing on my account since the garbage data plans went into effect FOR that reason. So hopefully nothing has changed. I have been very careful cause I knew they would pull a fast one if I so much as took visual voicemail or something off lmfao.

Okay guys I know getting throttled sucks but during this and last month I've had unlimited data! I mean truly unlimited no cap! I've have passed the 5Gb cap and have gotten the infamous text telling me my speed will be slowed. I've been experiencing this since I updated the leaked gingy from t-mobile I don't know if that's the case of my fortunate situation. Last month I used 10.2Gb(lol double checked dang that's a lot!) and right now I'm at 5.5Gb.I'm still at full speed with 18 or so days left on my billing cycle. Is anyone else experiencing this?

If your using the leaked gingerbread, then you are also on the 04.30 radio, which is the thing keeping you from being throttled. This has been confirmed by me and various other users on different roms, as far as I know it's the only radio that can defeat throttling.... somehow. But hey I'll take it

I wouldn't expect it to last too much longer, lol. But hey it works right now so get it while you can!
Edit: I would first test this toward the end of your billing cycle, there are scattered reports that this doesn't work for some people.

There are people on all different radios that get the throttle text and never get throttled. It really seems like a roll of the dice no matter what radio your on now that you said the .30 doesn't work for all people. All the other radios work for some and not for others as far as throttling goes also.

Oh no, I don't like reading this. I just joined Tmobile because their data plans are cheap and I THOUGHT they had unlimited 3G. I only bought 200MB of 4G thinking I'd be on semi decent 3G but now I'm screwed. Queue buyer's remorse...

Throttle msg

I don't know if anyone else is getting this.. but I was just throttled yesterday, and I got the msg twice.. saying I have gone over 5gb of data and am now throttled for the reminder of the cycle. Today I get the msg again.. does anyone have an idea what's going on..ooh I do have the Throttle Reset apk installed and used it.. funny I had installed in from the begining of cycle and hope I didn't get throttled but no luck.. now I dialed #932# and noticed that the data reading was different from my T-Mobile account.

I've never seen that message before, i've had tmo for quite some time and even went over 5GB before. I would turn on 2G, for a few moments, then return to 3G/4G, and speeds should be fine.
I just get upset when I hear you guys say I don't get throttled or when I get throttled I get a decent speed.. now am in new York city. I don't know where you guys are from but its just frustrating to see others get throttled to decent speed and others not getting throttled.. Damn feel like am missing out.. when I get throttled the most I get when I run speed test is 60kbs. Either from edge to 4g..as gas as network modes goes, I use 2g when am running Pandora, when surfing and downloading I use 4g.

Now am told by T-Mobile that throttled speed is affected by your location.. I guess if the towers ain't that crowded you might be in luck..
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
Everyone gets throttled no matter who you are or where you live. Some get lucky and don't get throttled, some probably do not even use their web as much to go over the cap to get throttled or some just don't notice. I've gotten away without getting throttled after going over my gb cap a few times.
No matter what they are always going to get you.

super fix for 3g and 4g data Verizon fast

if u have slowwww 3g and 4g speed, just call sprint and have them reset your data on our plan. I try everything I can get my hand on and nothing would work. before I would get 200 to 500 kb and after 1.2 to 2.0 MB. let me know if it worked for u...

what do you mean by "have them reset your data"?
tell them that u are having problem with data that ur phone drops calls and u don't get txt, the update profile on ur phone does nothing but update the phone, when u flash difference roms to ur phone, ur data gets wak. so just tell them to reset ur data
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
yea i just tried that, three different reps had no idea what "reset your data" meant. Ive been through every single fix they can do, I've never once heard of "resetting your data"...
when u call *2 the operator ask you if you have data problems. press 4 with problem can't receive or send txt, that that take u to data support and just tell them that u can't receive text or send txt. then they will ask u, to take our battery out. I thought they were throwing me, but they don't do that... trust me it works here's another picture of my test. results don't lie
It will slow down again an again. It's no different then rebooting a PC.
A fresh boot will be faster the bog down later on. You can always turn off your mobile network on your phone and wait ten minutes then turn it back on and you will get the same results.
Plus there is always ##3282# if you have your phones MSL code and you can do what they did.
I have read 1000 of thing to do to get fast speed even use the Verizon prl 0001, but all that got me was a bill 250 buck and my bill is normally 72.18 month every month...I test it with my girl friends evo 4g in the same place and her phone we always 10x faster then mine "hers is not rooted" until I got this done. here is a picture of before and after

Thanks OP but this is not really a fix but a mere band aid. That has been done for quite some time now going back to my windows mobile days. As another member has mentioned it might be good for a while but it will go back. Hopefully for you it does not and you get lucky and have great speeds. Personally my data has been refreshed at least a half dozen times.... Thanks for your input and good luck.
Also like previously mentioned you can try the ##3282# method its the same effect...
I hope, but like I stated before. that wouldnt work. I have try everything "##3282# and hit restore and commit and reboot. my girl friends evo is not rooted and she would get 10x faster 3g then my rooted evo 4g. everytime i use a different rom my 3g gets really slow.

Hey if it works for you then go ahead and enjoy but I have been in Sprint store and ran speed test alongside my Evo and no difference sometimes mine higher sometimes theres is higher. Hey if it agrees with your Evo then go for it. Just saying its not exactly a fix across the board... Also Verizon as much as I dont like them I dont think we will get that speed unless you live under a tower...IMO
you might be right! but I was like everyone else only getting 200 450 kbs and now! I live in san bernidino CA, and now!

EVO - Lack of 4G Coverage / Switching to Verizon & Unlimited data!

Ok so I had an Evo I was excited with the 4G I liked it for a while, but then after a 1 1/2 years the thing started to flake out. Well with my phone flaking out, and very limited 4G coverage I made the switch to Verizon. With one problem, what about unlimited data? I had to have unlimited data. So this is how I got unlimited data! Which wasn't being offered anymore.
Well thanks to XDA I found a super sweet hook up. This guy named VIP Nick got me Unlimited Data on my Verizon account for $30 a month, even though it's not offered anymore! He's one of very few in the country that can hookup accounts with unlimited data. Because he mainly works with Business accounts, and VIP accounts. Though he'll work with individual and family plan accounts too. Which I like because Verizon has a lot better 4G Coverage!
So I thought I'd spread the word to the XDA community if your looking to make the switch and want a new phone and get Unlimited Data email him at
Verizon.Unlimited.data @ g m a i l . c o m

I told My Coworker about this, as he recently switched to VZW when amazon was giving phones away for a penny, He got a phone call like 10 minutes after sending him an Email and will have unlimited data on his and his wifes phone in the next day or two.

P.S Verizon doesn't throttle speeds it's rumor... Very rarely only in extremely high trafficked area's like the super bowl etc.. I've used 60 gig this past month ran a bit torrent non stop and no throttling, sure a few fluctuations but still very fast.
I cannot beleive this without proof or evidence. Your just trying to lure people in to make commusion.
