Ultimate battery saver! - XPERIA X10 General

Guys, the app I'm going to introduce is "data on demand". Just search in the market for it.
The function is simple, it just auto switch the data connection off when the sreen is off. It reconnect the data connection everytime you turn on the screen.
One condition to note is that you don't need push mail, and you don't
mind receiving whatsapp message only when you turn on the screen.
This app greatly extend my battery life.
Hope you enjoy.

Exactly, JuiceDefender is way better and with some versions allows wifi control, triggers data for certain apps, scheduled profiles and CPU scaling.

I used juice defender as well (I've got the paid version) and it's brilliant. Toggling data, wifi, autosync and GPS on and off as u need them will always help u safe some battery. I can currently manage about 20h of heavy use.

I have already tested Juice defender, but in my device it don't works very well with a lot of bugs perhaps the new versions are better, and I will give a try to see your good comments on this app !!

I found that most of these apps were more trouble than they're worth. I've resigned myself to the fact that I need to charge my phone every night.

Nothing about JuiceDefender is going to cause your phone to "act strange or reboot" especially the free version. Since it runs in the background and is therefore using memory it could theoretically (in conjunction with too many other things running) cause lags. All it does is regulate when your data/wifi are turned on which is how it saves battery. If you have the Ultimate version then CPU scaling is an option, so if it works with your kernel/ROM you could scale down the CPU to the point it causes problems but that would be your own fault.

APNdroid does same thing without push messages.

Well said, I just use the widgets that come w/cyanogen 6 at the top of the notification bar to manage what I want. I can go about a day and a bit more, especially with undervolting.zip, 2G only and being smart about wifi.

I lose less than 1% every 2 hours in standby after undervolt with JuiceDefender, AutoKiller, AutoRun Manager and running Lookout. If I wasn't such a heavy user I could likely get almost 3 days using my phone for nothing but calls, text and minimal browsing. I'd say apps like this can be extremely helpful if used right and are hardly a hassle after you set them up.

[Q] most efficient way to fix time without a signal?

was wondering if there is a better way to fix this problem rather than doing the airplane mode toggle trick at every start up of the phone...
I have tasker doing for it me automatically.
I have to ask...is there a free app to do it?

Tasker is an app that does ANYTHING you could possibly tell it to do. It isn't free though, pretty expensive actually, but most power users don't mind the price as it is so handy. It also takes some time/brains to become good at telling it what to do.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/tasker/net.dinglisch.android.taskerm
Oh and also, I assume most people don't actually restart their phone that much, as it's not like WinMo where you had to about twice a day to keep it runnin smoothly. So to most people, turning airplane mode on and off once at each reboot isn't that inefficient.

Good call on using tasker for this...
Do you know how to get it to kill "services" (like the drm thing)? It does apps but does it do services...

I haven't tried Tasker yet, but from researching their user forums I think there was not a way to do this. For stopping services, I use the separate app AutoStart Killer.

Specific battery usage information.

Hey all.
Does anyone know of a (preferably free) app which can give accurate information on what's draining your battery?
The inbuilt battery info screen is useless... just tells me its all the display, which I know isn't true.
I just found out that certain apps are constantly running and might be hitting the battery, even though they don't show as running in task manager. PowerAmp for example. I just replaced it with WinAmp to see how that works out, but how do I know it isn't doing the same thing?
I need to be accurately told what is draining my battery so I can make smart choices as to what to remove. Anyone have any experience with this?

try system panel
SGS Vibrant - XDA App
Thanks. I just installed it. Nice bit of software. Shows me what's running... skype, quickoffice and titanium all have processes running after reboot even though they are not active...
What it doesn't show me is which of these background processes is using the most battery.
Is there anything that will do that?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yes, the paid version. It will show you which processes are using the most CPU (which translates into battery consumption). It's a massively awesome, very well coded app that is worth the $2.99

App killers and battery life

I used to have advanced app killer and used to manually kill apps like crazy, but then I read that they actually hurt daily battery life. Do you guys still use them? It sucks to manually go into settings to stop apps. Discuss.

They are counterproductive with the new versions of Android.
Use watch dog to monitor for "misbehaving apps"
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I have used Watchdog since I got my phone. It has twice alerted me that the browser was using extra cpus. It gives an option to kill the app right there so I did and everything was cool. Nice app.
1+ watchdog task killers were needed back in the day with 2.0 and below but android handles it pretty well nowadays
I only use it after boot up, but after that I only use it if I start getting lag.
Agreed. Avanced task killer and similar apps are rubish now days. Watchdog is Great because it alerts you about apps using top many resources.
New users and sales people tend to assume android uses ram like a computer does; the more free ram the beter. Android keeps certain apps available in ram so that its faster to open it you when needed. If the system requires more ram to function it will remove unused apps from memory.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Thanks for the watchdog recommendation. I checked out the app in the market place and it looks pretty cool. So you guys use no app killers at all?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i've with and without task killer, i always get longer battery life with, and have never had any issue's with using it.
No app killers period for me.

[SOLUTION] Fast battery drain fix in XGin 4 (possibly also in other 2.3 ROMs)

So, I started using XGin 4 2 weeks ago. Very great ROM with no bugs at all but I noticed that the battery was draining quite fast. During the night, with airplane mode on, the battery consumption was 10%. With other ROMs such as Floyo, I had just 1% drain or maybe even none. At first I thought the problem was Google Maps as it was always running in the background. I froze the app but nothing changed. Then, I froze the Email app (email.apk not gmail.apk) and then...massive difference. I would keep surfing the internet, playing games and so, the battery would remain the same. Battery loss during the night, 1%. No trace at the awake time bar!!! I can go now 4 days till the battery dies.
I heard that in XGin 5 there is a battery drain fix but I haven't tested it yet.
So, if you have fast battery drain, try freezing the email.apk and use another email app such as K-9.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that when I froze the email app, Google maps was already frozen. Both apps are frozen now. I don't know if the battery drain will change if you freeze just the email app.
Freeze those apps using AntTek app manager from the market.
Can you tell me how to froze that apps please?? , thanks

Maybe because K9 is not a system app it may not start by itself but I've never used K9 before so I can't guarantee you anything.
I tested the solution. No improvement. I'm using XGin 5.1, the undervolt option is on, I froze the mail apk, I'm not using 3G 'cause it drains a lot of battery. I don't know what else to freeze. I also froze the maps.apk. Still no improvement.
I will give another try after I fully charge the phone.
Cheers!
Gmail and map is frozen.
8h = 7% drain.
Sync and 3G is off.
Generally freezing Gmail didn't help me more than before.
However map is consuming a lot of energy.
So, I will keep map frozen and that's fair enough.

I can't find email/mail apk through root uninstaller.
This has worked so well for me. I'm on my third day without charging and still have 31% battery! That's with a little less use than normal but I'm still very impressed and happy with the results!

Qualcomm BatteryGuru vs. Greenify

Can't sleep tonight so just researching apps this morning. Have you guys or gals used either? Do you recommend one over the other?
BatteryGuru is officially made by Qualcomm so you would expect it to be pretty key to phone optimisation. Also it didn't require root.
Greenify had received many great reviews and the author is constantly updating which is good. Requires root however.
Thanks!

No real reason to be scared to root any more. We have the stock images in case you soft brick, boot loop, etc. I was worried to, but it was an extremely simple and quick root process. You just plug in the phone and your rooted after a couple mouse clicks
Also, I recommend freezing the ota applications in TiBu. Never know when at&t may send an OTA that could patch the boot loader exploit. Better be safe than sorry with this one.
Sorry to drag the thread off topic. Just thought I would throw in my $.02 after your comment on rooting. Best of luck

How does that greenify app work? Say you select all your apps, and then it hibernates them does it wake up when needed or if you get a message or notification?
The app specifically says not to enable apps that have certain notifications such as SMS and whatnot, so I would make sure that you don't do it to apps that you need to be notified.

They will wake up when you open them, then hibernate when you close them. Basically if you use it for all apps expect to not mulitask at all (looking at messages, wont recieve phone calls; looking at Internet, wont recieve SMS)
If you have to use either one you don't know how to save your battery. Get better battery stats and learn what is causing your battery drain. These apps only use battery.

Greenify uses a lot less battery then tons of bad apps running. I like using Facebook app but couldn't careless about the notifications and such. Yes I coukd go in and stop them but not all apps let me (cnet for example) so having a single place to hibernate the apps I dont want running in the background is nice.
