How do I STOP getting e-mail on my EVO? - EVO 4G General

Hello-
How do I get my EVO to stop automatically getting e-mail for me? I went into settings to look for some menu selection to make it stop, but under "peak times" it makes you select at least one day, and under "off peak times" it makes you select at least once a day. I only want it to get my e-mail when I manually select the "refresh" button.
Thanks!

Go to settings, accounts & sync, google account, gmail, uncheck 'sync'

Go to settings > account & sync and remove auto-sync
Edit : You beat me while page loading slow

Lol, at least we both had a solution

If your rooted you can also delete the gmail app.

All through the above, thanks! I didn't think to check the settings section, I was looking through the e-mail settings.
Are there any unintended consequences of unchecking the "background data" and "auto sync" selections in the "accounts and sync" section of settings?

Youre welcome. A lot of apps use backround data to update, like weather, the market and other various stuff. There's no downside, things just wont update automatically

[Q] Random apps starting up?

Why when I switch my phone on into Android, loads(about 15) apps are running in Advanced App Killer, such as Myspace, Mail etc, things i've not yet touched on my phone. I close them, but after a few hours i check what apps are running and random apps i've not opened(nor appear on screen) are showing?
Anyone else have this?
I think your apps are opening because you have auto data sync turned on. If you turn off sync of these accounts (mail, myspace) they probably won't be active.

oh thank you, stupid question but where do i find the setting to switch auto sync off?
*****More Info*****
Found it, was in an obvious Accounts & Sync menu, man i feel stupid lol, thanks
From the home screen, puss the menu then settings, go to accounts and sync. Disable auto sync and especially background data. You will definitely notice less apps opening up, but you will have to enable it again if you want to do certain things. I.e. market, gmail etc...

The problem with turning off Background data and Auto-sync is you will lose other useful features, e.g. GMail notification, weather updates, Market app (requires Background data) etc.
I use an app called "Startup Auditor" which allows you to manually turn off the programs you don't want to run upon startup, and additionally, auto-run after startup.
Hope this helps.

Push Email - Noob question, sorry

If I want to have push email for my main gmail account do I have to set it up as an Exchange account?
The shortest poll interval I see for any other (ie pop etc) account type is 5min
If then (to preserve battery etc) I want to switch from push to interval email is there any "harm" in using an exchange account-type for a gmail account?
My phone already syncs contacts/market etc with the main account that I have as the exchange account but want to understand the situation a little better
GGGrrrrr! This morning all 4 email settings (1 x echange gmail; 1 x pop3/imap gmail; 2x hotmail) appear to have been deleted from the HTC Mail App.
I cannot add the Exchange on in again as it tells me this account has already been setup.
I tried to delete it from the Account/Sync in Settings but even after saying it is deleting it is still there [albeit syncing nothing].
Anyone suggest how I can sort this? For the time being I have added the main account as a normal gmail account [except of course now it preferentially comes via the Gmail App first!]
No idea why you lost your email settings, I personally would blame Steve Jobs.
In relation to your other issue, I don't really see the point in creating an Exchange account to sync your Gmail account (two pushes will drain your battery faster than just one).
In Settings > Accounts & Sync > Gmail you can set the sync interval for your Gmail account.
Thanks
How can I delete the Exchange account then?
As stated I have tried to get rid of it using the "remove account" in the Settings/Sync area but it is still there.....
Actually I have just googled it and it seems I might been to do a "factory reset" (ie start the build all over again) to get rid of it.
What I need to do first is find out if there is any way to backup my Apps (and their settings - my son would not forgive me for deleting his Angry birds pregress!)
Will search but any tips gratefully received!
No... don't factory reset.
I know you have tried this already but...
Just try again to remove the account via Settings > Accounts and Sync then select your account then look at the bottom of the screen. Do you see 'Remove Account'?
Click it
If not, go to your email program, select the account you want to delete and go into Account Settings and try and delete it from there.
Sorry I wasn't clear
I did do exactly as you said to remove the account: clicking on it in the sync settings and pressing remove (I get the warning abot losing all calendar etc etc)
I did that multiple times.
I even rebooting after doing it (as it was still there) but it is still there and still apparently syncing (green circle still there) even though all sync options were unticked.
If I click on the account (where it gives the option to adjust settings) it justs says error the Mail app has returned an error and asks me to force close (every time)
In the Main app it is not in the Accounts screen do I can't delete it from there (even though when I try to add it again it tells me error the server says this account already exists)
Hence my frustration (over a small matter I grant you but small matters can bev very irritating!)
In that case all I can suggest is:
Make sure that the account in question is not set as default (just in case this prevents you from deleting it). Choose another account and set it as default. Then try deleting.
Failing that, try going into the account settings and delete each of the individual fields and resave the 'blank' account (assuming it allows you - probably won't). If it does, then try to delete it.
I've just tried deleting my account and it worked fine.
As a last ditch attempt, if you have 'Titanium Backup', you could backup the application and data relating to Angry Birds and reinstall it following your hard reset or whatever.
PS Whenever I hard reset, bugger all happens.
I really appreciate your continued help.
Yep sadly it WAS set as the default account but I did make the gmail (non-exchange) account the default account and try again but no difference.
If I can't find any other way I was planning to just delete the data.img file and let it rebuild it but first backup the games files and figured that would reset everything.
I could then restore from Titanium [I have a horrible feeling it will go pear-shaped!]
It would be a PITA to have to d/l all the apps again but even more irritating for the kids to lose their hard-fought game-saves!
In the meantime I got so hacked-off with it all that I have booted back into WinMo!
Ok, we're getting desperate/funky now. Try this...
Make a copy of your data.img.
Boot into Android.
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All Applications and select email.apk
When that opens click on the clear data and clear cache (if they are not greyed out).
Go back into email and see if that has cleared them?
If so, hoo'bloody'ray and reset your email accounts.

How to check email every 5 minutes?

I have my email set up (pop3) which works but I have to manually refresh to get the S4 to check for emails.
I do have it sent to autosync every 5 minutes as I assumed this would then check the email every 5 minutes but it doesn't
I have just come over from having an iphone 4s....was easy enough to set up on there but this s4 Im just not used to!
If anyone is able to help I would appreciate it as I need regular email updates for my business and dont really want to have to do it manually all the time.
Which email provider do you have?
Its my own webhosting that I use.

Not too sure if this will work, but we'll give it a try anyways.
Go into your email account,
bottom left button to bring up the sub menu,
Settings
select your email account
look for anything of "sync" option and enable it
Other things to consider
Settings
Data Usage
bottom left button to bring up the sub menu,
UNTICK "Restrict background data"
TICK "Auto sync data"
Finally, make sure that the Sync option is enabled from the notification panel.
Hopefully some of this stuff makes sense.
Good luck
All the other settings were ok, this one did the job though : TICK "Auto sync data"
Thank you very much!!
Great stuff!
No more excuses about not getting emails now!

Gmail not automatically updating

Hello
in my first week with Honor 7 everything was OK, but now Gmail is not automatically syncing.
So i tried to clear cache, but i cant go into recovery. I hole volume up + power button, but it jsut says that cannot update.
Could someone please help?
Thanks!
Go to phone settings, protected apps, be sure to allow gmail wakelocks.
Go to phone settings, account, google, click on your email, be sure to allow gmail to be syncronized.
Go to gmail, settings, your email, be sure to allow gmail to sync on mobile data.
Also check for any other apps that prevent wakelocks (Greenify etc). You should not use them with hw app manager.
FOR RECOVERY: Press volup+voldown+power to enter in TWRP. If you don't have TWRP installed, well, you will have to lurk moar.
Check two things first:
1) Go to Settings > Accounts > Google, click your account name and make sure Gmail is set to auto-sync
2) Go to Settings > Protected apps and make sure Gmail is protected
Edit:
Second place, first looser...
Thanks - everything was OK in these settings. I will try other methods as well, before hard reset
Nothing to fix this unfortunately... that's the big difference of honor/Huawei with other brands. I had Moto X 2014 and Moto X Play, and didn't have even one issue like this problem...

After 8.1 update my hotmail/outlook account in Gmail app does not seem to auto sync

Anyone else have this issue? I use the Gmail app and have my hotmail/outlook account added. Before the update I would get the new email notifications and emails automatically. Now I have to pull down to refresh my inbox just to see what new emails I have for my hotmail account. I have gone in and made sure everything is set for sync and for notifications but it still does not do it... I am puzzled at this point. It worked fine prior to update...
You need to allow Gmail to run in the background by removing it from the battery optimization. Doze on 8.1 is more aggressive than 7.1, Gmail would actually recommend you to take it off battery optimization because of this. After upgrading from 7.1.1 to 8.1 and opening up the app, it was the first thing it told me in a banner.

You need to go to Settings --> Battery --> Verticle Dots Menu --> Battery Optimization --> Press the dropdown that by default says "Not Optimized", switch it to "All Apps" --> Scroll to find Gmail & press --> Select "don't optimize" & press done.
Try this, it should work. I was able to get email notifications to my device from my Outlook account via the Gmail app.
Cheers!

I've never seen this banner...
And Gmail uses high-priority GCM push... So it should wake with every email...

That was what the app suggested after I upgraded. I thought it uses the high-priority GCM push, but it could also be because I set up Outlook on the Gmail app via Exchange rather than POP/IMAP? Not sure. I wouldn't have said this if I wasn't instructed to & it working after following its suggestions.

Try removing the Outlook account & set it up again? I use the Exchange method & used m.hotmail.com as the Exchange server.
Cheers!
