Black screen flashing LED light! - EVO 4G General

Hi guys I need some help! I was playing Homerun HD 3D and in the middle of playing it, my Evo just went pitch black as if it were going to reboot but has stayed off. I cannot turn it on at all and the only thing that is happening now is that the orange LED light in the upper left corner just keeps flashing off and on. I have tried a battery pull with no success. I am not sure what is happening here but if anyone can help I would be truly appreciateive.

Have you tried charging your phone???

Sounds like your battery overheated. Just take it out and let it set for a little bit. And don't forget to charge it

X2 on overheating. Let it cool pull battery out and let sit for a few, plug it in when its cool and let it charge. Gota watch your temp on some apps and games.

Yeah. in the real world. this evo phone of ours is a freaking joke. if you share your internet connnection. THE PHONE WILL OVERHEAT then shut off. It's sad that HTC put something out in the market that is defective like this.

My cousin actually called sprint last week and threatened to cancel due to poor service in his area. They sent him an airwave. Then he told them that him and his wife didn't like the evo and wanted to go to tmobile so they upgraded both phones to Nexus s for free! they r having it shipped on release date. Ymmv but worth a shot!

Thanks a lot guys, that is what the problem was. I pulled the battery and let it set for a few then replugged it in and voila it was charging again. This was the first time EVER that I had my phones battery go completely dead so this was a first time experience. All your help was very considerate, thank you guys

[Q] EVO heating up....wtf???

Has anyone experienced their EVO heating up? Since the kick stand is metal or sumn, it gets super warm, enough to make u wonder how hot will it get. I'm a noob so I'm not sure if this is normal.
any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated.
Yes this is natural. My battery will top out at 110f with normal use. The kickstands does a nice job of heating up. I wouldn't worry.
Sent from my PC36100
It's normal. A lot of GPS use also gets it pretty warm pretty quick. Don't worry.
It is normal but you should probably not use it when it gets so hot, let it sit for 5 min and it should drop below 95F.
My evo would also get pretty warm after normal phone operations and would get extremely hot when using gps. My phone was so bad and so hot that it would begin randomly rebooting and wouldn't stop until I put the phone next to the ac for a few minutes or removed the battery for a few minutes. It made my phone reboot a minimum of 10 times a day. I got so frustrated with it that I had to get a replacement and lose my root. Now I'm hoping that stock 2.2 is rooted soon. No problems out of my refurbished EVO so far.

Mine gets warm fast when trying to find signal, other than that it stays cool.
Oh and wifi tether for two hours straight over 4g made it hit 115°f the other day.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I have no complaints about this - it stays cool for me throughout. I do remember noticing it got mildly warm a couple of times, but it happens so rarely and it's so unimportant, I didn't bother checking for anything, or even remember what I was doing on it at the time.
Both times I tried to use GPS (Google NAV first then Copilot) my phone got up 130°F and locked up. I had pull the battery and let it cool down. Disappointing at best.

Woah....130? That's crazy, surprised phone didn't fry. It'll probably have to get hotter than that. As long as the phone doesn't mess up, I will continue to enjoy this phone.
My phone generally only gets really hot in the car, when I'm using gps. Luckily I use a vent holder for it, so I just turn the air on low, and the phone is cool to the touch when I get to where I'm going. Don't know what I'll do in winter though...

Mine starts to overheat when the sun hits it when sitting on my passenger seat in my car. The phone is black, and my case is black. It's going to absorb the suns energy.
mine got really hot to the point where the led would flash green then red....135 or 145 degrees Fahrenheit I forget
I was only charging my phone for maybe 15-20 minutes

Mine does this too and as soon as I unplug it the led turns off. Think it might be the overclock. I had mine clocked at 1.2 and scaled it down to 1.9 due to phone locking up and rebooting. Sometimes I have to wipe cache and davlik cache and reflash firmware and kernel along with all my mods due the phone not going past the splash screen.

Guess u didn't want to get yelled at for posting elsewhere about root so you felt the need to slip it in here there was no need to mention as it has nothing to do with OP. Root will happen sooner or later grow up and wait like the others who are waiting no need to toss it in unrelated topics...we are all getting sick and tired of people *****ing about not having root! You probably made your comment up just so you could add your little remark about not having root!
Back on topic.....you guys have to remember there is a 1 ghz processor in our bad ass phones so there will be some heat unlike a computer there is not any fans or big heatsinks that will absorb the heat so with heavy use or game playing its gonna get hot plain and simple its not a defect so nothing to worry about until it starts melting in your hand....then I would say something is wrong...
Yeah, mine is running at 40 C all the time, upwards of 60 if I use the GPS.
You know...I actually hadn't noticed....and I use my Evo a lot. Only time I've really noticed it overheating is when I use WiFi tether but that's expected.
Sent from my Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Evo!
Mine usually only gets hot when I leave it sitting somewhere without proper ventilation or when I'm riding in the passenger seat and it gets some sun. Otherwise, its pretty uncommon unless I'm really running everything at once. If you have all your radios running at max (downloading large files, checking your location on Google maps, tethering, listening to pandora through bluetooth, all at the same time) then its going to happen no matter what because all the phone's components are pretty powerful and aren't ventilated like computers due to size constraints. I know the kickstand gets hot when the phone warms up, but as long as you don't see the overheat lights, and you don't let it stay hot for extended periods of time, there should be absolutely no danger. I believe there are failsafes if it overheats for too long, but I don't know. My G1 used to get hot a lot, and it was no where near as powerful. Those were the days...
This damn issue was the fact I returned my Evo 4G to Sprint to get it replaced. The Phone was getting so hot to the point the screen was hot towards the bottom of the phone, the back was hot, and the phone kept doing restarts. My phone im Pretty sure had a defect. Not even a week after rooting thru the unrevoked method, I installed Wifi tethering App and **** went down the drain no later then a few days after. The phone began heating up and going thru 15 minute boot loops at a time. The only way to stop it was to pull the battery and let the phone cool down. The phone had to be in optimal Tower range with strong signal strength to avoid this overheating during data sessions. If i was in areas with three bars or lil lower and began running youtube, I could not go thru 4 or 5 youtube videos in a row without the ****er restarting. It was annoying and frustrating. I got a feeling something got ****ed up along the way after rooting and installing Wifi tether. I realized using Wifi tether heated the phone up real damn bad. Something must have got fried or the way the phone processed data after that was just crapping out.
So yeah my issue was way worse becuz of this overheating
I am having the same problem as you drewtorrespr. I rooted a while back using the Toast method and everything ran fine until 2 days ago. Now it seems everyday around mid day my phone heats up and starts rebooting. Not sure if its the ROM ver or hardware defect or rogue program.
How do I flash the original factory ROM back on the phone so I can take to sprint and have them look at it or does it matter. Will they just reload it for me ya think?

[Q] Battery may be shot

I left my Evo on the charger overnight. When I awoke this morning, my phone was completely off and the battery indicator light was also off. I tried to turn the device on and nothing happened. I tried plugging it into a different outlet and the battery indicator light lit very dimly then died off completely. Do you guys think this is a battery problem or something else. I really dont want to take it to Sprint because it is rooted and since I cant get it to power on I cant flash a stock rom. But I dont want to spend money on a new battery and that not be the problem. Any suggestions?
Yeah it sounds like it's the battery. I wouldn't think that it should be a problem bringing it in to the sprint store. Just have them give you a new battery and if it powers on, just say thanks and walk away, no reason to even let them look at it. If you know someone else with an EVO, Hero, Incredible or Touch Pro2 try their battery b/c they are all the same.
thanks. I'll try that.
I had this happen to me a couple times and every time it happend it was either the cord, the kernel or I had to wipe batt stats. So I would say try and use another battery if u know someone with one like previously suggested and u may also want to look in to the things I mentioned. Good luck, hope u get it figured out.

Awesome! Glad it was something simple. Good luck at the Sprint store, though you probably won't need it. Just tell them that you're wife's hero battery works and yours doesn't and they should have no problem giving you a replacement.

Solid amber then nothing

Any help here appreciAted all the sudden my shift won't charge I plug it in and get a solid amber light for 5 seconds then nothing. Tried various chargers Anne removing as still nothing.
try a battery pull and try again
Tried removing battery SDcard still solid then off
Check the charger port. If you keep your phone in your pocket like I do, you get lint build up. I've already had to clean mine out twice. I used compressed air, and was very careful.
Tried charger port looks clean used air did try to turn it on while amber light was solid iT began to then shut off
try a different mini usb cord, see if that works. It could be a bad cord...
Also tried different cord combinations USB>AC USB>Pc etc to have same result plug in a few seconds Later I get solid amber for about 5 seconds then it goes off. Have to unplug and remove battery and replugin to get it to recognize anything again.
Can you clear battery stats? Long shot, but you never know...

All I can do is try a power on during that 5 seconds. Which initiates a power up but it still shuts off as soon as either the white HTC screen starts or if I try recovery as soon as the Boofloader screen where it gives you boot options and shows sff that screen don't know correct name for it. Either way all I get is a quick flash of either screen when it attempts to boot then shuts off.
This is a longshot too try plugging it in and leave it for a couple hours or if somebody you know has a hero or og evo charge your batt in it for a hour or 2 then see if it is your battery or the phone. I remember reading somewhere if you completely kill those li-lon batteries it messes them up and possibly the phone too. You didn't run it completely down did you?
Edit: you may have to flip the hero or evo's battery over to make the contgacts match up,not to worry it'll work cuz I'm running my heroi 1700mha battery in my shift now.

Themikmik.com has a thread on battery calibration, one of the options is to pull the battery during bootup. This clears the battery stats folder.
Ought to see if your local sprint store has a battery you can test b4 you buy, may be that simple. I would avoid the full service stores, maybe a mall kiosk?

+1 You might want to try a different Battery. These batteries do not like being run all the way down to nothing. Had an issue once where I thought it was a rogue app running the battery down really quick. It wasn't, I had let the battery drain down to nothing one to many times. Fresh battery cured the issue. Actually got it from Sprint for free. Walked in said my battery was no good and they gave me a new one, no questions .
HERE is the thread on the MikMIk for Battery Calibration.
Issue resolved after 3 hrs at retail seems battery boost is all it. Needed so far although CSR tried to blame it on water damage. Saying litmus near USB port was pink which they refuses to show me when I asked to see It knowing that it's never been near moisture other then the humidity in the air. Let's hope this does it.

Anyone mind tellin me what a battery boost is? New to me.
Also, according to HTC, we should be completely killing the battery once a month as maintenence. Has this proven detrimental to the life of the cell?
Sent from my Shifty Speed Brick using xda premium
No proplem, help when I can. No idea what a battery boost is . But as for killing the battery once a month. Well that's a whole different can of worms . There are different schools of thought on that. Some say it's really bad, because it kills the cells. Others say it's necessary to kill it in order to retrain it. Just Google it, but be prepared to read through a lot of info. Personaly ( IMO not that it means a damm thing ) I don't believe in the whole drain it dead phiosophy. But that's just my opinion
I used to manage batteries plus... Lithium ion batteries are the best because there arent memory gimmicks... It is not a bad thing to drain it down to 1 - 2 percent. I personally dont drain down all the way because I had an odd experience with my phone not being able to turn on (no recovery, nothing!) for about 2 hours... I thought it bricked somehow, so I let it alone for an hour on the charger and it magically (thankfully) turned on when I tried... It freaked me out so I never let my phone's battery die...
It is always a good idea to cycle the battery but the most imporatant thing to do with any cell phone battery is to charge it uninterrupted for 24 hours before using it...

[Q] epic just went haywire - suggestions?

Been running Clean GB BML rom (latest version) since it came out and haven't had any problems. Battery has been decent (not grand but not bad), and its been pretty snappy.
All of a sudden this morning i take my phone off the charger, as I do every day, and the battery meter is basically just counting down and draining. The phone lasts about 2 hours and its practically dead. I charge it up at work and again the battery is draining like crazy. I popped the battery out and cleared battery stats, no luck at all. Battery is smoking hot too.
So in an effort to hold on to juice, i fire up juice defender. This of course helps some, but still draining. And then it starts getting VERY laggy. A text comes in and the screen won't rotate for 10 seconds after popping out the keyboard and things like that.
I haven't installed any new apps in the last few days. I really haven't done anything unusual or different than I normally do.
Any ideas what might be wrong? Battery gone bad over night? Phone is actually dying?
I'd rather not have to flash a new rom, but of course if i have to i will.
help! lol
You might want to try odining to stock, rerooting, and reflashing cleangb.

I had this issue, except for me, it started to last 6 hours, then in December lasted for 2 hours, and before new years it lasted 30 mins. I went ahead and ordered an Epic Touch 4G battery and it's back to the norm of 12- 1 day battery. Do try Marcusant's advice, but if you ask ME, as surprising as it may be, batteries don't last forever and it sounds a lot like what was wrong with mine. They're made to last about a year or two. Buying a new battery won't hurt, and if its fixed with Marcusant's advice, having a spare will only help for when it does eventually die.

My crappy chinese battery that I bought on ebay a year ago is dieing on me, the phone just shuts off randomly. I don't mean shuts down from low battery, I mean literally the screen goes black and it won't turn back on until I pop in my other battery. Kind of annoying, especially when it says I have like ~60% left

That use to happen to me on my bad oem after I kept trying to turn it on past the 30 mins. Also another good indicator of a battery not holding charge is if you notice its got juice, and when it "dies" on you, it claims to have none, then it magically charges in about 15 mins.

Be careful with that. They sent me these crap 1200 maH batteries. I went through 3 of them before 1 would work. I got fed up and called them and they said if I bought an OEM battery somewhere I can fax them the receipt and they will reimburse me. And they did. Got a genuine OEM from Ebay for $12.

Who's liking their fast charging?

Loving it! Kinda took me by surprise even though i knew i had it. Waited until my battery got to 1% then plugged this baby in, went to do something whick took 2-3 minutes. Now im already at 10% wow! I could see this as being super useful in rushed situations.
It came in handy this morning. Apparently I was so tired last night that I set my phone down on the wireless charging station (forgetting that I didn't have the wireless charging cover) and forgot to plug in it. At some point in the night my phone died, meaning my alarm didn't go off. Luckily my wife's goes off about 10 minutes after mine normally would. So, I plugged it up & was able to have a 50% charge before walking out the door to go to work this morning. That was a very pleasant experience with the quick charge feature.

P.P.S Defintitely not sure about it but you can be.
Greenpeace would complain because more power is used to charge quicker and for more power used, there is more power needed but for the extra power needed, coal power stations need more coal and to get the coal you dig it out of the ground. So in other words, the dinosaurs may be dead but they are dead pissed.

The biggest I see with this "Faster Charging" is that, this is the first phone I have ever owned that doesnt die on the charger.
What I mean by that is that, when I using the HotSpot Tether and playing games and multitasking all at the same time, my previous phones would either over heat and force the phone to cut off to cool down "LG G3" or the battery percent would get lower and lower while on the charger.
This has been my problem on every phone from the HTC M8 to S5 to M7 to Note 3 to Nexus 4/5 everyphone.
With this faster charging it charge fast and is able to keep up with my multi tasking demands while using the phone.
This may be a feature of the Snapdragon 805 being able to handle the work load better.
