Hey guys - i just bought an awsome SDCard, a 32GB class 10. just put it in ma HD2 trying to partition it in recovery mode - but after partitioning, the phone (through titanium backup) the phone only sees the fat32 partition and not the sd-ext partition. now i'v tried using PC Software to partition and the tutorials all over but that doesnt help either.
what am i missing? i need help

simple idea/rule of thumb; class 10 cards are **** and you don't notice an increase in file transfer due to the limitations of the phone itself
Install ubuntu on your windows pc using the wubi installer (google is your friend here), it's very simple to do. Once you have ubuntu linux installed, go into the software center and search for 'partition manager' or 'partition editor'. Then install it. It should be listed in system tools as GParted. Plug in your sd card thru a card reader or a digital camera or another phone, and unmount it in gparted. Then create a new ext4 (probably 1 gb/1024mb) all the way to the right side of the space shown for the card in GParted. Then when finished click apply changes near the bottom of the GParted window. Done
Your phone won't show you that it sees the ext partition, that's all done behind the scenes. The only way to know is to install apps, and watch the system memory in settings/storage. If your memory goes down significantly as you install apps, something has gone wrong. If it only goes down a little (maybe 1-2 mb) after installing a bunch of apps, then all is well and working properly.

@ Malybru - no, my partition is 2048MB Ext - 256MB swap.
@huggs - that is strange because before i had an 8GB class 4 memory card - i had created a 1024MB partition and when i ran titanium backup - you could see the sd-ext partition below SDCard and Internal Storage
additionally, with the new cardz during every data wipe it skips the SD-ext saying that it cant find it - which never happened with the old card so thats why i believe that there isnt one
Weird. I've used quite a few different roms and have never seen the ext partition in storage settings. Wish I could tho.

its not that you could see it in storage settings.. but you could see it in titanium backup and you can mount it in recovery mode

ok, i've realised that im not the only person who his having problems with A2SD on anything larger than 16GB.. i want to know if there is anyone who has successfully partitioned a 32GB Card with an ext3 partition.. I spent alot of money on this card and its really messed up that i cant use it!!

I've noticed I'm pretty much at my limit for space on my current SD card (like 80MB remaining on a 4GB!)...
I've ordered an 8GB card to replace this one... but how can I "clone" my current 4GB card (with a2sd partitions) and then copy it over to my 8GB card, without losing data, settings, apps, etc? Is there a way?

Do this all from within Clockwork Recovery:
1) Make a nandroid backup
2) Connect the phone to a computer
3) Partitions menu > mount USB storage
4) Copy all contents from the old SD card to a temporary folder on your computer (including the clockworkmod folder which contains the nandroid backup you just took)
5) Unmount and disconnect from computer.
6) Pull battery to shut the phone off, or if you would prefer you can boot the phone and then turn the phone off immediately afterward. Pulling battery just saves time.
7) Put new SD card in
8) Boot into clockwork
9) Format the card with Clockwork w/ ext partition
10) Connect to computer, mount USB storage again, copy all files back to the phone
11) Unmount and disconnect cable from computer
12) Nandroid > advanced restore > Restore sd-ext only
13) Reboot and you're done.
And if something goes wrong, it's not really a big deal since you will still have the original files on the old SD card so you can try again or ask for help to try another method.

Haha yeah, I think it's the easiest way to do it with Windows, since you can't read the ext partition from the computer. You could probably just copy the contents of both partitions through Linux if you're comfortable doing that.
Doesn't a nandroid backup the ext partition too?
If you're using windows you could just backup your fat32 partition on your PC and partition your new card and then copy all your files back and do your nandroid restore.

Clockwork does not back up my ext partition. It can't mount it or anything. Not sure why. Might be because its ext4, but when I do nandroids the sd-ext backup always fails.
I have to use Ubuntu and mount as storage. Then both of my partitions mount on my computer and I can do as I please. For me this seems easiest anyway. Simple copy and paste and it can be done from a live cd for those that dont already have Ubuntu.

Interesting. I was sure you could format a card with ext partition through Clockwork but apparently you can't. You can do it through ROM Manager though, so I guess you may have to boot into the phone to get to it.
The programs on the ext partition won't show up yet of course. Don't be alarmed. Just partition the card through ROM Manager, then once you're done doing that, do the nadroid advanced restore. If there are any problems after a reboot (i.e., it didn't work correctly), go back and try doing the regular full nandroid restore.

This doesnt create a partition though. It just formats an existing partition. You'll have to use drumist's method of going through Rom manager to actually create the ext3 parition from the phone.

Tried running ROM Manager - of course, it's installed on the 4GB card which isn't on my phone when I have the 8GB in to format. So then I re-installed it using the APK... but I get the exclamation mark when it boots to recovery to format... probably because a2sd is installing the same program on the ext part which it is now trying to format.
I think I'm going to have to format/partition it using Linux somehow instead, no?

someone recommended in another thread that when that happens you just pull out the battery and then use volume down+power to boot back into recovery and it should then work.
But the method I use is to do it from Ubuntu (a linux version). If you dont want to install Ubuntu on your computer you can make a bootable CD or USB drive with Ubuntu on it (directions for this are on the Ubuntu download page) and actually run Ubuntu from the CD/USB without ever installing it on your computer. From there you can use gParted to create paritions. And while I recommend making backups, gparted even allows you to resize and move partitions without deleting anything.

Yeah, that's what I was worried about. My suggestion then is to format the card through linux if you have a SD card reader. Easiest way is to use an Ubuntu LiveCD. Do you know how to do this on your own?
Also, definitely do a full nandroid restore once the SD card is reformatted. Since you booted the phone and tried to install an app, it's possible something got screwed up -- nothing to worry about though because a full nandroid restore should revert everything.

I'm reverting back now, going to sleep on it, and then investigate formatting it via LiveCD tomorrow morning. It's been several years since I've had to go near anything Unix.
By the way, another option is to just do a clean install on your phone with a ROM that has ROM Manager built in. Use that to do the format on the SD card.

That got me thinking...Ive never had a problem adding an ext partition using Rom Manager. Ive done it to 3 SD cards now without a single issue. BUT, Ive also always done it while on cm6/7 which both came with Rom Manager pre-installed with the rom and quite a bit of integration with the rom manager app...just a thought...
EDIT: Scratch that, I used it for 2 SD cards, the 3rd was done with Ubuntu.

I did this with two different SD cards on fr008. Both were sandisks. One was a 16 gb class 4 and the other was an 8 gb class 6. I couldn't get gparted to partition the 8 gb for whatever reason. I didn't know what Ubuntu was when I partitioned the 16 gb
It seems like an oversight that maybe of the masses of people with Android devices that one day the general (non-xda) population would want a simple way to transfer their sd card data to a larger card...
I Imagine there are a bunch of people out there clueless.

Got it to work, finally. Required some back-and-forth with the Nandroid backups, but I have everything running off of my 8GB SD card now, without reinstalling!

Hey guys how do you move ALL apps and data to your sd card so when I flash roms (theres a new update everyday it gets too hard) I dont lose my progress in apps and I dont have to reinstall they are already there, is it possible to do this?
Also can you set sd card as default so new apps you install automatically go there.
It would be nice if I could partition just like 1 gb of my SD card just for apps!

RCmix3D at the moment, thinking about flashing Honey sense hd for a while!
I just want to make a partition of about 700mb onto the SD and move ALL my apps to it so I dont lose my progress and I dont have to worry about them when I flash roms!

I'm unsure of any batch command to send all existing apps to SD so you may have to go to Settings> Applications> Manage Apps and move each one individually.
To change default app install location, use the following command either through ADB or in a terminal emulator:
pm setInstallLocation 2 //for SD card
pm setInstallLocation 0 //for phone internal memory
You'll find after setting the install location to SD, you'll notice that more apps can be moved to the SD card manually instead of just being greyed-out. However, be careful though - personally, I wouldn't move the following to SD since they've affected performance:
- apps which use a widget on your home screen (music players, aggregators)
- apps which explicitly interact with the system (e.g. task managers, autokiller, autostarts)
- Google apps

Backup data on the fat32 partition first, as it may get wiped when the partition is split to make the ext partition. All user apps and associated dalvik will be moved to the ext partition on boot. Just make sure the ext partition is not wiped / formatted prior to flashing ROM. Use pc software such as gparted or mini partition tool free. Been a few phones bricked using the wrong cwm version to partition.
But, if were me, just use Titanium Backup Pro.

Gparted wouldnt find my phone when plugged in when I tried.
Also when you just move to SD through settings>application, it doesnt move the whole app only half and when you install a new rom they arnt there

A2sd+ moves apps to ext partition, not fat32 partition your referring to. A2sd or apps to SD move only to fat32 partition.
There's the difference between a2sd+ & a2sd.

So to move the apps COMPLETELY on to the SD so they are there when you install a new rom and stuff, I partition my sd card in Ext 3/4 and then use a2sd+ to move them over right?
I'm on LeeDrOiD, and don't bother with the patch anymore.
But the method I used was, setup ext partition, flash ROM followed immediately by the a2sd+ patch for 1gb ext, then reboot. First boot will take a while.
Is useful if you stick to the same ROM, ...... as long as you don't wipe the ext partition before each update / build flash, or the ROM doesn't have a inbuilt script that wipes the ext. If that happened, you'd lose the apps and their dalvik cache, although the dalvik should be wiped anyway.
Edit: important, Forgot to mention, move all apps to "internal" memory prior. A2sd+ will take care of it on boot / flash and move all to ext. Any other app DL, just move to internal, and it'll be moved auto next boot.

I got the partition set up and I installed the patch and the reboot took ages but how do I know if there on SD, I dont think they are because when I click on the app some still say move to sd?

Open titanium backup, the first page that opens "overview", look down the bottom, will say something like;
Rom
Internal
Sdcard
A2sd+

ok it says sd card (A2sd) 575mb 60.4 free, so I think that means the apps are on there, so if I wipe my phone the apps will stay right?
It will always say move to SD if installed in any other place. But the SD it refers to is the fat32 partition, not your ext. A2sd+ will take care of it and move all new apps to ext on boot, as long as you install to internal memory first.
After some market updates of apps installed to ext , you may have to move to internal and reboot to ensure they're on the ext

Maybe a slightly bigger partition would have been better.
The apps should stay, as long as the ext is not wiped / formatted.
If apps not recognised in market, clear market cache, boot cwm, clear dalvik, boot, use titanium backup pro to restore market link if needed.

Maybe your version, I have not done it since 1gb using cwm 2.5.1.3. But some newer versions had bricked phones. ROM manager is just an interface for cwm, so that's why its best to do it through pc. Should recognise the card through a sdcard adaptor

Yeah but I use windows, and I'm having problems using Gparted live (it just wont let me partition my sd card) and using virtualbox I cant find my device in Ubuntu :S
Mini partition tool , free version for windows, maybe you missed it in an earlier post.

Today i flashed with succes my first android rom Hyperdroid GBX v12, Gingerbread 2.3.3
But i missing sense in this rom so i wish an other rom with sense. I started to partitining my sd card but i get scared and flashed the same rom again.
1. can i flash each nand rom from sd card
2. if not is it possible to undo the partitining of th sd card
I'm so glad that i am windows free

I didn't' get it! What scares you? You should partition your sd if its needed. Some ROMs, especially Sense, required SD Partition. If you skip this part the rom wouldnt boot. And the instalation is from SD!
First of all, don't be scared flashing a ROM. One of the only ways to brick a HD2 is by flashing the wrong radio.
Partitioning the SD card? Just use minitool partition manager or easeus partition manager (both work fine) and then create your Ext3 partition there. Just make sure you have the files on your SD card backed up to your PC as when you're partitioning, it'll need to format the card.
EDIT: to answer your questions...
1) it's only possible to have one android rom installed at one particular time.
2) it is possible to wipe the partition on your sd card to make it full capacity again. Search for 'Panasonic SD Formatter' and that works just fine.

What scares me is that when i put a new rom at my sd card and flash it, is that enough or do i have to delete the old first???
And second, does it mather what kind of rom i flash there are to much to choose i think. i have a european model so i shouldnt choose the tmous models are all other roms save to flash?

You should have enough space to have more than one rom on your SD card. Why it's looping on boot is because you have the wrong clockwork partition. In each rom it should be outlined as to what size you need the partition, then just reflash the right size clockwork from magldr/cLK.

do i need the panasonic sd formatter before doing this?
Nope you don't need to do anything to the SD card partition. It's the internal memory you're partitioning to make room for your ROM. Can't remember exactly but you can just edit one of the files that you've got in your clockwork folder to change the partition size or just go to the clockwork thread and download the partition size clockwork you need.

people who does not understand the installation method of native sd please follow these steps
create ext 4 partition of minimum 512mb
1.unzip the recovery zip file from this link (http://goo.im/devs/Xylograph/Various/Recoveries) copy zimage & intrid file from recovery and paste these files on root of your sd card
2.go to magldr menu and 2 nd option (ad sd) then press call button
3.then it will take you to recovery mode
4.flash the rom(paranoid 1.99 or 2)
5.after that your sd card will have folder called nativesd click on folder inside there will be one more folder pa
6.copy zimage & intrid files
7. before that delete the zimage & intrid files of recovery from root of your sd card
8.paste the zimage & intrid files of pa
9.reboot

i think recovery(CWM) only makes EXT3 but i'm not really sure about that, your best bet is use a pc that can have those warez on it
or this, if you can place & unzip the file in your NB

Now I know ..but the first post is for people who don't have magldr or android on nand....SD recovery is not needed when you have cwm recovery inbuilt in magldr
Easy steps
1. Use minitool partition manager on PC to make sdext4 partition (cwm makes only ext3 ..so is not useful)
2. Copy your favorite native SD rom zip folder to SD card
3. In magldr ..go to ad recovery..install zip from SD...then follow instructions ..default path install is SD ext
4. Reboot

Hi everyone, it only looks that I'm a new user, it's because i've never posted anything before. I have Hd2 for almost 2 years from now and like 1,5 year being passive user on XDA. Anyway I do have problems that i can't manage myself. OP asked a dumb question, only if he has Android Nand or Windows Mobile, however... nobody ever tried making it work with WP7? I've been working on it few hours and don't have a clue how to do it. I've deleted my FAT32 partition and split it into Fat32+Ext4. If EXT is logical, WPH boots and show "Storage Card not working", but if it's primary it doesn't even boot. Is there anyway to solve this thing? Any help much appreciated, thanks.

I like to try nativeSD Android roms, but with MAGLdr it runs into a deadlock as MAGLdr does not support WinMo 6.5.
Is there a way to use NativeSD? even better with multiboot?

today I installed ACA NativeSD on partition EXT4 into my sd card. I copy and paste the 2, zImage, intrid file which I fund in NativeSD/ACA folder, into root of my sd card. I rebooted and when I choose Boot AS SD in MAGLDR the ROM do not boot.
What I do wrong?

you must copy the 2 files from "<SDCARD>/NativeSD/ACA" to "<SDCARD>/NativeSD" (and not to "<SDCARD>/" )

but I got already 2 file in there (zImage & intrid), do I have to relace them? Anyway if I try to set up the AD SD Dir from Magldr I do not see the NativeSD folder so will not boot anyway. I think I have problems with 4EXT but I am not sure.

yes, you must replace the 2 files...
why you can't see the folder: check on a PC, if the folder has hidden attribute... or try to create a new folder, copy all files from the old to the new, delete old and rename new folder...

ok, I will replace them.
Why I do not see the folder? I ask my self the same question and I don't know why, anyway my card is recognized and the folder is there, if will be hidden I will not see the folders, I also put different card into my hd2 with different folders and still the same. I think the 4EXT recovery make something wrong with partitions or I do.

you may partition your sd card by this way
backup your data first, reboot into recovery, choose option 8. ad recovery => advance => partition sd card, choose your own option and wait
