I just brought an X8 coming on monday! I need to know which is the best custom rom with everything working. Is the 2.1 update any good? What are the main things I need on the android phone? Also out of 10 how good is the phone and lastly what is the best keyboard? Also does the battery last 2 days on 3g connection with updates every 10 minutes? If not how long using these settings?
Thanks

1. I've had my X8 just over two weeks, the 2.1 update allows you to use Android Market over wifi and in my case it allows me to connect to WPA/WPA encrypted wifi networks. The 2.1 update also adds slide to unlock instead of using the press Power/Lock butten then Menue button in 1.6.
2. I don't really know about battery life using 3G with updates every 10 mins as I use my X8 as GSM/WCDMA only with no active data connection and use wifi for data my battery only lasts aprox a day (but that's probably due to having the GSM/WCDMA Radio and the WLAN connection turned on)
3. I don't know about custom ROMS as I've not had much luck in getting the required xrecovery app to work on my phone to try out any custom ROMS.
Roland
For now there isn't custom rom with everything working. I am using MiniCM and I am satisfied with this rom

Thanks Everyone. What do you rate this phone out of 10? Any battery help? I had pulse mini which had awful battery. Wouldnt last 8 hours with 3g on!
Ive heard alot about this MiniCM rom, but when I download it it appears as 2 folders (system & META INF) with previous ROMs it was a folder with 4 files (system, cache, nandroid, data.) and i would just place them in xrecovery/backup.
im using Racht-Floyo v 0.11, let me know if MiniMC is better. Peace
I think this is a very good phone, and it is the cheapest smart phone with android. All the hacked rom s have not working things. Take a look at Racht topic. It is said that some of his Roms have better battery use.
GreatApo (SE X8)

I was using racht's roms too but in his roms I have problems with installing apps. In MiniCM I don't have this problem and native app2sd is working great. If you want to install MiniCM don't extract it, only put it in sdcard and in xrecovery first do a full wipe and then select install update.zip
Thanks will try for a bit if I dont like Ill jsut get a refund lol! What other android phones so you reccomend at about £70-£130 price range?

It seems that xrecovery isn't installed. Are you pressing back button when Sony Ericsson text appears?
I install xrecovery this way. maybe you can try:
1.Root phone with SuperOneClick then reboot
2.Install Titanium Backup. In Titanium Backup click on problems and install Busybox
3. Download xrecovery from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878426
4. Put three downloaded files in system/bin with Root Explorer
5. Reboot phone and press back button more times when white text Sony Ericsson appears

4. Reboot phone and press back button at the white SE text, but phone boots as normal

I. I ve flashed my phone more than 50 times. Last Rom I tried was x 8 arc, and before I had minicm.. all worked fine..suddenly withx 8arc rom it stopped installing apps and when I try to go to settings -applications, it shows me every app but they all say computing and never shows the size of them. I try installing any apps but the installation bar continues endlessly. I repaired the phone back to SE Original and that way I can install apps and it shows me the size of them. I root it again installed minicm, new froyo 0. 20 and it happens the same.... no app install and always "computing" on application manager.. its really weird and i ve tried erasing everything on xrecovery and still nothing... anyone???
why you flashing ROM 50 times?? This is not good for your phone, you shoud format data and system and also cache in xRecovery and than repair with SEUS or PC Companion to get fresh 2.1 and root your phone and put xRecovery and CHOOSE a good ROM for your requirements, so you do not need to flash your phone with different ROM and brick your phone...
Did you try a wipe dalvik cache form xrecovery and did not solve app install issue ?

Yes my friend, I tried everything, factory reset before and after installing ROM, wipe cache partition, wipe battery stats and the rest. I went back to SE 2 times in a few hours and I then can install apps.. tried minicm, new froyo and still can't install apps and in in application manager (settings) they never stop "computing" and I when I try installing apps the installation bar goes on forever. I'm really puzzled and I can't figure out any solution since I went back to SE and tried it all over with no results.. f **k!!!!

are you using BaseBand 015? You must use 015 because 006 is buggy on custom roms...if you don't know what an X8's baseband is, XDA's search bar is your friend
I have a problem with custom roms too, except cm7, thats the only one that works good for me. After i install any other rom, i cant acces internet for some reason... I have baseband 015.

If xRec was previously installed then he can. Don't misguide. Rooting has nothing to do with boothack.
As for rooting - try Flashrool root option. Or reflash the ROM.
As for the problem with booting froyobread - reinstall, full wipe.
Hey guys.
my phone : E15i , baseband xx015, 2.1.1.A.0.6, rooted, xrecovery 1.1, tried out some custom roms by racht, works perfectly, currently using stock rom.
before rooting, papago! (gps app) works on my phone perfectly,
now, satellite search doesnt work, cannot locate my position, cannot navigate,
so i used xrecovery and did factory reset, format system, wipe cache, (idk what they do, i thought it is just clearing all stuffs in my phone)
now, the phone just stucks at "Sony Ericsson", is it bricked? solutions?
You should not Do "FORMAT SYSTEM".
Now you lost your firmware/Rom from your Phone. So its soft bricked.
Solution: Use PC Companion And open support Zone and repair software.
Or seus you can instal some other Rom,just transfer to you sd card(mount on xrecovery)

Yoo man, use PC COMPANION and update your phone to 2.1.C.O... or UPDATE SERVICE or flash 2.1.C.O... with flashtool. And again root your phone!
Small warning for newbies as me, just in case.
I have Xperia Arc S, rooted, locked BL.
I changed rom and during this operation I pressed wrong key .
The sequence was as here:
- I wipped all to factory reset
- then in Mounts and Storage I wiped \system and \boot partitions
- then in Advanced I wipped Dalvik Cache
- then my fingers pressed wrong key when I was on Reboot Recovery option but it was too late.
Phone trying to reboot but there was no CWM recovery as it is installed on \system and I just wipped all to factory reset .
Of course such situation can be simply fixed by Flashtool, but I haven't my PC with me .
My advice is: do not press Reboot Recovery option in CMW recovery when you already delete all from your phone .
And rather change rom when your PC is available and ready to work. Just in case

That should be common sense, but I guess it's true what they say about common sense eh. This is why it's recommended to just unlock the bootloader, if you want to root to install custom kernels, ROMs etc then you might as well just go all out and unlock it in the first place.
In all my time here at XDA having owned an X10 and the Arc I've only ever seen one instance of a Phone being well and truly bricked so with those kind of stats I don't grasp why People don't just unlock their bootloader from the off.

Your right to a degree, but you have to remember its other things like hardware that can be damaged due to overclocking etc..
So it isn't just bricking you have to worry about.

In my country Xperia Arc S is rather expensive ;-(
The only reason why my phone still has locked bootloader is warranty/guarantee.
According to my little knowledge it is impossible to lock bootloader again with all settings as in hm... 'original', not modified phone?
so the main point is what? i don't really understand, so you did brick the phone/send it to phantom zone while doing those you mention above?

You can use the ICS you find under "If you can't get it to work (stuck on Sony logo), then flash this in flash tool " in section 2.
