Arc S Locked Bootloader+format /system+reboot CWM recovery - Xperia Arc General

Small warning for newbies as me, just in case.
I have Xperia Arc S, rooted, locked BL.
I changed rom and during this operation I pressed wrong key .
The sequence was as here:
- I wipped all to factory reset
- then in Mounts and Storage I wiped \system and \boot partitions
- then in Advanced I wipped Dalvik Cache
- then my fingers pressed wrong key when I was on Reboot Recovery option but it was too late.
Phone trying to reboot but there was no CWM recovery as it is installed on \system and I just wipped all to factory reset .
Of course such situation can be simply fixed by Flashtool, but I haven't my PC with me .
My advice is: do not press Reboot Recovery option in CMW recovery when you already delete all from your phone .
And rather change rom when your PC is available and ready to work. Just in case

That should be common sense, but I guess it's true what they say about common sense eh. This is why it's recommended to just unlock the bootloader, if you want to root to install custom kernels, ROMs etc then you might as well just go all out and unlock it in the first place.
In all my time here at XDA having owned an X10 and the Arc I've only ever seen one instance of a Phone being well and truly bricked so with those kind of stats I don't grasp why People don't just unlock their bootloader from the off.

Your right to a degree, but you have to remember its other things like hardware that can be damaged due to overclocking etc..
So it isn't just bricking you have to worry about.

In my country Xperia Arc S is rather expensive ;-(
The only reason why my phone still has locked bootloader is warranty/guarantee.
According to my little knowledge it is impossible to lock bootloader again with all settings as in hm... 'original', not modified phone?

so the main point is what? i don't really understand, so you did brick the phone/send it to phantom zone while doing those you mention above?

Everything you need to fix it in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955248
You can use the ICS you find under "If you can't get it to work (stuck on Sony logo), then flash this in flash tool " in section 2.

Yes you can in fact, back up in cwm before you delete system stuff and you can respite your system from there.our if you didn't back up, you can still bit in to cwm and flash a clean rom
Isn't the only way to brick it by deleting the boot partition in recovery without an operational system partition installed? Or does cwm not have an option to self terminate? Ie "I cannot self terminate" ( Said in ahnold shwatzenhagga voice)

Nah.. that's just going to wipe your kernel and OS side boot image out. You'll still have CWM and the ability to install a new rom. In fact, the device will likely boot into recovery without a valid boot image though i wouldn't test it!
On the amon recovery app used on the evo 4g phones, you normally would wipe both system and boot before a new rom is installed.. CWM just doesn't get that in depth with wiping options as it should.

[Q] Mytouch 4G Gingerbread root and unbrick

Hey guys, about a week or two ago, I went to a T-Mobile store to upgrade to 2.3.4. I have been looking into rooting and loading CM7, but im not sure how to do it and what is the best way. I was thinking about doing it with ADB, but im just too chicken to try it. I can't afford to break this phone, so i have to be really careful. If you have any other better ideas as to how I could root 2.3.4, that would be awesome. Also, if you have found any way to unbrick it if it gets bricked somehow in the process, that would be great too. I am an experienced hacker, and am working on starting to develop apps for Android and Apple. Thanks guys, I really need your help.
There is no root for 2.3.4 yet

Just in case you all start getting condescending about people not pulling through successful with Ultimate Guide Deluxe. I am not doing it wrong and chances are I know a tad more about this process than you.
There are always chances. On the other hand, chances often lie. Read this:

From post 62 downwards.
Then you can count your chances again, or post here about how you and some others missed the obvious.

I am. I'm not well versed enough to do the downgrade-via-ADB thing. All I want to do is temproot, freeze the bloatware on the stock 2.3.4. I'm not interested in flashing a ROM or having permanent root. From what I understand, this isn't possible without downgrading.

No, it isn't possible. You have to downgrade and install pre-rooted 2.3.4.
It's not really that hard. You could start by trying to set up ADB, and if you get a working environment - you'll know that you're good to go with the guide.
Sorry to raise a dead thread, but I was just wondering if anyone had come across a 2.3.4 root method. I am trying to root my fiancee's device and seem to be getting nowhere.
Apologies also if this has already been addressed.
Thanks guys =]
The rooting method for 2.3.4 involves downgrading to 2.2.1. That's the way it has been, that's most probably the way it'll stay, for a long time, possibly indefinitely.

[TUTORIAL] UNROOT the Galaxy S II on ICS to COMPLETE stock

How to get your rooted Galaxy S II I9100 back to complete stock
This means that you will have:
Stock Bootloader
Stock ROM
Flash Counter Set To Zero
Stock Recovery
INTRODUCTION:So, the vibration on my SGS2 is broken, but I also rooted my phone, because, well, Samsung TouchWiz sucks. So anyway, being pedantic old me, I wanted to develop a method to reset my phone ENTIRELY to stock so that I could send it off to get repaired. I have found this method.
My main problem derived from the fact that USB Jigs no longer work on ICS which is irritating because I only just got it. I made this guide so there is finally something on the Internet where all the information is in one place.
NB: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU DOING ANYTHING TO YOUR GALAXY S II AND THAT INCLUDES BRICKING THE DEVICE. YOU ARE DOING THIS WITH FULL-KNOWLEDGE OF ANY DAMAGE THAT COULD POSSIBLY BE DONE TO YOUR PHONE.
NB: ROMs like I9100XWLPM and I9100XXLQ5 are vulnerable to the eMMC bug and that willl brick your phone if you do a wipe/factory reset with CMW (probably stock too) Thanks cpl.Bower
Here's your shopping list:
A Windows PC or if you have a Mac, a Windows Virtual Machine (haven't used a vitual machine so not sure if it works, but give it a try and let me know!)
Odin which you can get here.
Chainfire's Triangle Away Application which you can get here or on the android market if you feel you want to donate to him.
ClockworkMod ROM Manager you can get here (I would highly doubt that as root user you don't have this)
Download your corresponding Stock Kernel from here.
So here is the method:
1) Open Chainfire's Triangle Away app and press "Reset flash counter" to reset the counter and remove the triangle. It does not matter if there is no triangle already.
2) Do a nandroid backup using Clockworkmod recovery if necessary (to get to it; turn off your phone, press the power button, volume up button, and home button at the same time and hold it down for a while). This is done so that you can restore your original OS like I would want to after getting my phone back from Samsung if you're restoring it for that sole purpose.
3) (Mandatory) Wipe Data/Factory Reset in recovery menu. IF YOU DON'T DO THIS, YOUR PHONE WILL BECOME STUCK ON THE "S" LOADING SCREEN. You also should wipe the cache partition and the internal SD card. The internal SD card in case you have any directories which may link you to rooting your phone, such as clockwork mod.
4) Restart into Download Mode and plug your phone into a windows computer.
5) Open Odin , click PDA, choose the STOCK kernel. Make sure that F. Reset Time, Auto Reboot and the PDA checkboxes are checked and NOTHING ELSE.
6) Click Start. The phone will restart now. It takes a while to load up as the applications need to install. Keep an eye on the phone, it'll ask you for your carrier. This does NOT mean the phone will be locked to a network.
7) Follow the instructions and set your phone up.
8) ???????
9) PROFIT
10) (Optional) You may want to check to see if your phone is set to stock to confirm. I cannot guarantee 100% that there will be no evidence of root on your phone, but hey, I still got warranty service after doing something similar to this on the old firmware.
To check to see if your flash counter is set to zero: hold down the power button, volume down button and home button until a "Warning!!" screen appears. Press volume up and make sure it says CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO and CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL. You may also want to make sure that there is no warning triangle on the first screen when you start your phone
To check to see if your recovery is set to stock: hold down the power button, volume up button and the home button until your phone goes black after the first boot screen. To make sure it is stock, there should be no "CWM-based Recovery" at the top or anything indicating clockworkmod or any other custom recovery.
Any errors in the process (besides the one in the Q&A), I may not know what you have done. I have done this with my phone and it worked fine.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO RATE AND THANK ME
Q&A:
Q: I'm stuck on the "S" loading screen, what did I do wrong?
A: You didn't do a factory reset! To fix this, turn off your phone, go to recovery, wipe the data, reflash with the stock kernel and it'll be okay. If not, I have no idea what's wrong.
Q: How do I get to recovery?
A: Turn off your phone and hold down the power/sleep button, the volume up button and the home button at the same time until the first boot logo goes black, then you need to let go.
Q: DUDE, THIS TUTORIAL IS AWESOME, HOW CAN I EVER REPAY YOU OH MIGHTY MIKE?!
A: Rate this thread 5 stars and thank me.
Thanks for reading
If anyone can give feedback when they try this, I'd be thankful

Good job
If I were sending a phone in for warranty service/replacement, I'd go a step further with the factory reset & format cache, data, system, & internal sd card in CWM, then flash stock rom in Odin, then Triangle Away (If flashing stock ICS and assuming you have new bootloader) or flash old bootloader & use jig (if flashing stock GB).
Edit to add - Obviously also do a Nandroid before the above steps so you can get up & running when you get your phone back/new phone as you said

Nah, not wiping cache/Dalvik, actually formatting the cache partition in CWRecovery. And yeah, if you want to be absolutely sure; well as sure as possible in any event; you can't get a 100% guarantee of warranty service once you've gone down the custom firmware route, formatting the internal SD card should get rid of any potentially 'incriminating evidence'
No need to credit me, it's your guide, you deserve the credit

Ah right sorry, I misunderstood you haha! Well, I rooted my phone before and I honestly couldn't find a trace of root and got warranty service, but you never know!
I actually got warranty service while my HTC Wildfire was rooted, so I never see at as impossible!
I shall correct the mistakes, thank you once again
My method
Seeing as I bought the USB jig, I prefer to just do a full, thorough wipe as described above, then flash back to stock GB. A quick plug in of the old jig and it's clean. Also, the warnings about messing with bootloaders being a gateway to a fully bricked device put me off.
This thread is a great idea, though. I had to trawl over so many sites to find information about things like this. Good work.

I put it there because it is the stock Bootloader for ICS... I had it at my disposal because I was going to flash an older bootloader so I could use USB jig and then flash back to the stock with the bootloader in the download section.
Honestly, unless you flashed some other bootloader, I wouldn't bother with it. It makes no difference really, I managed to get back to stock without doing that

Its been along time since I last flashed through Odin (I normally flash rom's through cwm), but to get back to stock don't you simply just flash back an original rom which corresponds which your region ?
The rom should already have the correct bootloader and you should not have the yellow triangle as you have not flashed an insecure kernel ?

Because this is the only technique I find which ensures removed root and full stock on everything. Main reason for doing this instead of flashing via cwm is because this technique is extremely thorough. And what you flash in ODIN isn't a rom.

Nothing as flashing a stock ROM via Odin will flash the same Bootloader anyway.

I'm currently running a rooted GT-l900T on ICS 4.0.3 (Australia/Vodafone) and am trying to follow your guide, but there's one thing I'm unclear about.
You say to download a stock kernel for my phone. How do I tell which kernel to download? I'm currently running a rooted XWLP9, should I be flashing a stock version of this? Will it do any damage if it's the incorrect kernel?
I found the XWLP9 stock kernel in the link you provided, but it says that the region is Netherlands and the carrier is also different to mine. Does this matter?
I'm trying to claim warranty tomorrow for a hardware problem, and would appreciate an answer ASAP. Thanks for your time!
hey if i use custom rom like resurrection remix can i unroot my phone but still use the custom rom?

[Q] Help! Spontaneously Bricked My Stock Nexus 4

Ok my battery was draining at a faster rate than normal so i figured I'd reboot my phone. Once I shut down my phone and hit the power button it boot into fastboot mode. I am literally the most basic Nexus 4 user meaning, I've never rooted, unlocked, flashed or done anything to my phone. I simply just don't know how to do any of this stuff so it's not like I was tinkering with anything.
I searched online and I went into recovery mode and tried to reset the phone and wipe the partition and it just reboots to the fastboot mode. I honestly have no clue what went wrong. Again, I know nothing about root and stuff but there must be a solution right or am I the first person to ever brick their completely stock phone by trying to restart it? I figure some of the awesome people on here what know what to do or to simplify some steps to fixing this. Thanks in advance.
Sounds like your volume down key might be stuck (as holding that when you power on is how you get to fastboot).
If it's not that then maybe you should try downloading the factory image from here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images and letting that install.
I don't think the button is stuck.
Your device needs to be in fastboot mode, with the bootloader unlocked. The relevant key combinations and commands are documented on the page about building for devices.
You need to uncompress each download before use, which creates a new directory for that exact download. That directory contains a ./flash-all.sh script, which handles the various operations, installs the necessary bootloader, baseband firmware(s), and operating system. Note that this operation deletes all user data by default.
After restoring a factory image, it is recommended that you lock the bootloader, for security reasons.

Definitely not the volume down key. I'm able to navigate with volume rocker in fastboot.

I kind of have an idea of how to do that but a link to a set of instructions would be great. I've looked but most people have rooted and installed computer programs so I didnt know what exactly I would need to do in my completely stock scenario.

Dear if you have not rooted it. your stock rom has not gone any where...
Goto recovery and then press volume up key and power button. keep holding for like 10 secs and u will be get into the system. However, check that your volume down key is not pressed

Being that you haven't unlocked or rooted the phone its most likely a hardware problem. If you bought it from Google RMA
From my BLACKED OUT N4
Before RMA'ing try the factory image. You don't need instructions, you just run a .bat file while in fastboot. What have you git to lose?
if you wiped your partitions, then you dont have a rom on your phone. flashing the factory img via fastboot would fix that.

You can't wipe /system from stock recovery, so he didn't do that.

I'm guessing he wiped data and/or cache. If he truly is stock like he says then he didn't wipe his /system partition.
My phone got messed up once and I couldn't make or restore nandroids nor boot past the CM boot image, and it ended up being because my /data partition got corrupted. No idea how. I had to flash stock Google images to get it to boot. it happened during normal use of the phone.

yea, if had my data partition get corrupted too, wouldnt finish booting. flashing the stock img fixed it quick. but it was my own fault.. bennchmarking at 1890mhz with fsync turned off
I ended up just taking advantage of my warranty and I'll get a new one. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and tips. I'm still trying to figure out why simply turning off the phone to restart it caused this to happen. It makes no sense.

[Q] Autorotation in TWRP ?

Is there anyway that i can auto-rotate TWRP ??
Im using TWRP with multirom ..
Unfortunately my digitizer broke and the navigation area is not working.. ( Temporarily i'm managing the phone with full auto-rotation from gravity-box )
MAIN problem is im unable to use the "Swipe to flash" area in TWRP because of the broken digitizer..
I planned to use CWM but im afraid of loosing multirom..
So guys please suggest me about auto-rotation in TWRP or any other alternative idea to flash in MULTIROM..
How do i delete this thread ??

Nope i didnt .. but i dont think TWRP has an auto-rotation.. if at all it existed at-least 1 would have suggested among the 100 views..
Try flashing CWM (non-touch) or PhilZ recovery, they might work for you... they use the Vol and Power buttons to perform recovery functions. It is simple to install or switch even if the screen is not working, you can do it through fastboot with a single command...
fastboot flash recovery cwmrecoveryimage.img
of course, substitute the actual recovery image file name.
EDIT: Nevermind... I didn't see you were using MultiROM until it was too late, I should probably read more thoroughly before replying.
