[Q] Overclocking... - Galaxy 3 General

Overclocking...
Don't kill me, I couldn't find any useful threads for the Galaxy 3.
I love my Galaxy 3, but the 667mhz processor is lacking. I've rooted it and installed SetCPU, but it says that my default 667 is the max it can do. I hear there are kernels you can flash to unlock the CPU, but I can't find any, just fully fledged ROMs. Any help would be appreciated.

Use FuguMod 2.2 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997367
or use a ROM like Lestatious 2.0 build 1.8.
With this, the max CPU frequency will be 1.3 Ghz.
(Frequencies : 83-166-333-667-866-1066-1300)

Thanks, I'll see what I can do.

Overclock help!!

I hav an sg3 running on kyrillos rom 5.7 with fugumod 2.4 beta 3( 800mhz edition)
and Setcpu application. Can Somebody tell me how to overclock the device.......currently the scale in setcpu is til 667mhz.
Just slide the bar in setcpu to 800
And put it on ondemand
guys the scale is showing till 667 mhz and not beyond!
Are you CERTAIN you downloaded and flashed 800mhz OCversion?
If so you might try reflashing or flash a different version. Personally I'm using 2.2 Bleeding Edge version OC to 1300mhz ondemand - after trying same version as you - and can report that I found no issues with either.
I had this problem too . Try reinstall setcpu its working to me ,sorry for bad english

Going to g3mog from fugumod

I m seeing that many of people facing problem in changing kernel (g3mod to fugu or fugu to g3mod) like bootloop, 0kb internal memory. so i m giving a small trick. First of all remove your sdcard and then delete the folder named Android then flash kernel with odin as one pack then insert your sdcard.
Always prefer flashing kernel via odin as one pack, use cwm only when u dont have pc
And u have to accept that all cpu can not handle 1400mhz. if your fon can not handle such high clock rate then use ultimate. there is no need to overclock to 1400mhz for simpe and daily use, overclck only when u need it like gaming. i use ultimate at 800mhz at ondemand and max 400mhz conservative at screen off.
If I want to hav long lasting battery life, which kernel do i flash?

Use performance or ultimate with some basic setcpu profiles like screen off, ondemand. i think all of us have huge battery drain problem during 3g data connection.

/sdcard/android/data/fugumod this is to be deleted if you plan to use G3Mod and vice versa.
I like fugumod a lot, but currently using G3Mod Ultimate, clocked at 200-1200 MHz in SetCPU using OnDemand Governor and have its working awesome, with good battery backup, data is on, even used GPS for a couple of hours.

If i Flash a NON OC ROM (like Kyrillos 7.0), but use a OC-able Kernel (like Fugumod or G3),will i be able to OC ?

oc depends only on kernel not rom, if want to oc then flash a oc kernel first and then set frequency with set cpu, prefer flashing as one pack via odin

Definately you can do it, infact thats what i do...Flash the ROM that you want as one package using ODIN (kyrillos v7 I have tried and i am too small to comment on it, but its an amazing ROM, very fast and has all necessary things you would want in your ROM). After flashing the ROM, you can download and flash any Kernel that you want again using ODIN as one package. (let me know if you want in detail about any of the process or if you want any Kernel, everything is available in XDA). If you want to go for Kyrillos ROM, after unzipping the file, you can find the v4.01 OC kernel in the Extras Folder which you can flash with ODIN. A wipe is recommended before and after the process is over.
Hope this solves your dilemma, you can anytime reach me for any info that I may be able to provide.
Take care.

I do have both directories:
/sdcard/android/data/fugumod AND /sdcard/android/data/g3mod
My experience is that you have to have the SAME "fs.current" files inside both.
then you can change the Kernels (FUGU or G3MOD) without changing anything, assumed the data in "fs.current" are matching the file systems.

Hi umang,
Would you be so kind to give the links to your setup?
I would like to try out the same config as yours.
Or even better:
Are you able to send me a rom to flash my phone?
I use Kyrillos7 now, but locks at startup allot.

If it locks up at start up, rather than reflashing ROM, you can just flash G3Mod Ultimate Version Kernel 1.3.4 which i used with Kyrillos7 ROM in past and it worked great for me...again I used the same Governor Specs.
However my Specs as you requested above are given below with links, (please give credits to original developer where ever applicable as I am not a developer myself (though I would have loved to be one), thanks)
Here you go
for XXJPS : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125387
-------------------------------
Kernel: G3Mod Ultimate 1.3.4 : http://www.multiupload.com/TEQXRZMKPQ
Credit for the Kernel goes to DharamG3
-------------------------------
SetCPU : 200 Mhz to 1200 Mhz, (Governor - On Demand) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419 Or Google
-------------------------------
Other Tweaks that i implemented
1. Lagfix : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892512
2. JIT : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16187138&postcount=6
OR
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026870
3. SD Card Fix : Download two applications from the market a) SD BOoster b) SD Tools...Now in the SD Booster try values 512, 1024, 2048, 3072 & 4096 and for each value check the reading 3 times in SD Tools...so you will know at what value your SD Card is working fastest.
Again i would recommend, rather than doing all this, use G3Mod 1.3.4 Ultimate Kernel with Kyrillos7 ROM which has most of these and many other features.

Stock ROM Overclock(Question)

Hi there!
My GTI 5800 is with the froyo 2.2 update from the Samsung Kies.
I like very much how it looks.. colorful icons, colorful settings, everything..
Today i decide to overclock it, but im not sure about some things, and i would like to ask you guys.
1.Should I use custom kernel ? and is it a safe for my phone, also is he will affect my battery consumation?
2. How much i can overclock it ( In MHZ) ?
if you have some experience with that guys please share
And if i overclock it succsessfully, what will be battery lasting difference (if you have already try of course).

1. Yes you can use custom rom i prefer to use G3Mod and it is quite safe and as for battery consumption it depends on how old your battery is i suppose
2. the max i think is 1260Mhz but you can adjust it using setcpu
I think first you'll need to root your phone using 'superoneclick root' (search it in google). Then flash a custom kernel. The guy above says G3MOD but the new G3MOD kernels have horrendous battery drain so for overclocking you should use fugumod ultra (which overclocks to 1366MHz) or fugumod 800MHz (which obviously overclocks to 800MHz).
You can control how high you want the MHz to be using pimp my cpu app (free on play store) or setcpu (paid app on play store).
Your battery life will be about 2 days if you use the 800MHz and 1 or 2 days if you use the 1366MHz one. Whichever overclocked kernel you use, it WILL decrase your battery life.
Click thanks if I helped
first root your device using superoneclick.. fellow instruction in below link..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011555
then flash OC .tar file of G3Mod kernel using odin from there..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26082562#post26082562
after flashing the OC kernel install setcpu to control overclocking frequencies...
if u r new to the flashing then follow the below step..
1) Start Odin (if using windows 7 or vista right click Odin and use run as administrator)
2) Check "One Package" checkbox
3) Check “Reboot” checkbox
4) Check protect ops checkbox (Don’t check this if you are flashing I5801 with I5800 firmware for the first time.)
5) Check reset time checkbox, keep the default value as it is i.e. 300 don’t select any other options.
6) Hit reset files button once.
7) Click ops button and select OPS file for I5800
8) Click one package and select the firmware you want to flash. The file must a .tar file.
9) Now connect your phone to pc.
10) Odin will show yellow color and com port no. in the first box on top in Odin.
11) Click Start and watch the progress bar and timer, wait until PASS message appear on Message box.
12) wait until rebooting phone.
FIRST REBOOT WILL TAKE TIME SO BE PATIENT...
if it helps hit thanks button..

I cannot follow you here...g3mod 2.5 gives you high stability and more battery live than stock. dunno how a custom kernel does things differently, but my last cycle was 4 days. (low usage of course)
IMHO Fugumod kernels are more stable.
667 mhz is the perfect
there is a kernel 1400 mhz but is only for i5801 "g3mod v1.9 extreme"
for i5800 there is a kernel 1336 mhz kernel "g3mod v2.1 oc+"
when the of overclocked to 700 mhz and up the phone finishes the battery very (one or two hours)
at 667mhz overclocked you can surf on the internet play games and more other
for more then 9 hours and have left to you another 50% battery to do with
THE BEST KERNEL IS G3MOD NON-OC V2.4

No offence but you don't have a clue what you're saying. Any kernel on this forum will work on i5800, i5800L and i5801. Also, 667MHz is the normal frequency. It is not overclocked. Anything over 667MHz is overclocked.
The best OC kernel would have to be fugumod 2.4 800MHz in my opinion but some users prefer G3MOD but it causes crazy battery drain for me. Fugumod is overclocked and it also has good battery life and stability.
Press the thanks button if I helped
I changed my opinion and installed Kyrllos 9.6 ROM. I like it. it`s a fast and without any problems.
I use it with G3MOD 2.5 NON-OC kernel and i have good speed and about 2 days battery life.
Now i will try fugumod 2.4 beta3-OC-800mhz kernel. I tested standart version but phone lags. otherwise the battery life i s amazing with it.
P.S
fugumod 2.4 beta3-OC-800mhz causes lag too. I will back to G3Mod 2.5 non-oc

Darky 9.5 EE still the best ROM for SGS

I've gone through a ton of roms and Darkys 9.5 is the fastest and easiest to use
The only problem is I cant find a Kernel that allows me to overclock more than the stock 1Ghz using this rom.
Can anyone help?
On MIUI or Cyagenmod I got it to run at 1.5 or 1.6Ghz no problems and it makes a HUGE difference to the usability of the phone.
Basically need a Froyo kernel that allows over-clocking and preferably vodooo sound and color.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822027
Nice. Thanks. I will do a backup and try it tomorrow.
Only goes up to 1.3GHz and doesn't seem to support voodoo color or sound from what i can tell thought.
Any info on what state the file systems (aka lagfix) need to be before flashing to this kernel?

Problems with overclocking

Sm g-900f
When I overclock my procesor doesn't matter what kernel or what program I use the minimum frequency is stuck on 1.19 ghz
