Hi
You emailed me on this as well. You also gave some more info regarding the battery connectors being broken from the motherboard.
If the gold battery connectors have come off the motherboard then they are almost impossible to reconnect. You see, the motherboard on the device is what is known as a multi-layered board. There are connections that run between the layers on the board. The board cannot be split so that you could re-solder the battery connectors. Most often the battery connectrs split off between the layers where it is impossible to re-solder them.
If you are very very lucky the connectors have split on the surface and there might be enough of the wires on the surface of the board to have them re-soldered, but I think the chances are very low for this. You may also find that the on-board fuse has blown. This is a tiny component, but really it hardly matters unless you can be sure you have fixed the battery connectors!!

faulty XDA 2

Hi, Can anyone help?
I plugged my XDA 2 into my home pc's USB port using its cradle. I noticed it began to over heat, now the the top righthand power recharge light stays on (active) all the time even when it is not in its cradle, in addition to this that battery dies very very quickly e.g 15mins.
I have not been able to find any fault codes relating to the yellow light ( this should normally show only when the phone is charging.) I have tried updating the ROM and also a new battery but the problem remains.
I'd be really gratful for some advice.
thx
If it overheated it is either a short on the cradle, a short in the pda connector, a short in the battery or too much voltage. I would suspect the first three, sounds like the battery is now cooked. This is a warranty issue I think.
Do you think I could repair this my self maybe a blewn fuse or somthing ?

This happened when my charger burned up while charging my device...
Now I have no sound, the device is SIM locked and is turning off sometimes for no reason....
I believe it is a hardware problem I guess I need new mainboard?
Please advice if this could be a software issue....

Battery problem
Hi,
I know old post, but it may help somebody.
It is possible that your windows has switch off the battery charging circuit for some reason.
You MAY be able to get it working with the following trick:-
You need 3 x 1.5 volt AA batteries, some wire and 2 pins
You need to join the batteries together in series (i.e. end to end)
Next make a negative lead from the negative of the battery pack to one of the pins.
The make a positive lead in the same way.
Open the battery cover of your Wizard.
Connect the USB charging cable.
Put the negative pin you have just made into the gap between the battery and the charging pins in the Wizard - MAKE SURE YOU ONLY CONNECT IT TO THE PIN NEAREST TO THE USB PORT.
Now comes the tricky bit - take the positive pin you have just made and touch it on the charging pin which is NEAREST to the power on switch.
If all goes well the charging light on your Wizard should turn orange indicating that it is charging.
You might have to try this a few times, I was never sure if you had to keep the external battry connection on for any length of time or just a quick connection would do the trick. I suppose it depends on the state of the Wizards battery.
This is NOT my work! I do not want to take credit for something that is already documented on this site as it helped me get my battery working again.
Regards,
John
thanks a lot!
saved my wifes phone. Is this problem (happend twice already) something that I can address with a new rom, anyone knows?
I also have the remove the battery go back to Feb2006 issue. Device is off warranty by a few good years. Is it something an experienced electronics person could try (without destroying the phone that is...)
Cheers
V.
Worked for me too
I had just bought a new battery for my Qtek 9100.
This one:
sku.23974 at dealextreme.com
My 9100 had been dead since 2006 (because the battery was dead ...)
And i got a new phone.
but i tought it was to good to throw away, so i bought the new battery.
But i did let it run out of battery, and it would not take the charge.
but this trick did the job
Thanks
Hi all,
Just wanted to sign up to say thank-you - I chanced upon this forum while seeking a solution to the same problem.
I'm happy to report that the 'jump-start' works perfectly!!
I actually used the slightly different method, described in another thread on this forum:
Take a USB-to-Mini B cable. One that you won't need ever again.
Cut the Mini B end off and strip back the outer casing. Inside is a wire mesh and within that a foil lining. Pull these both back.
Now find and strip the black and red wires. The wires are thin and this is a fiddly job, especially if you have large hands, so this works best if you screw the exposed wire strands up into little balls.
Remove the battery from your Qtek 9100 (or whichever model it is). Pay attention to which pin goes to which contact and so identify which ones are the positive and negative contacts on the battery - It is described above in Heinkeljb's post.
Now, plug the USB into your PC (which should be switched on and running) and connect the black wire to the negative (and red to positive) contact on your battery.
Hold for a good 30 seconds.
Now reinsert the battery into the phone and attempt to charge.
You may need to 'jump' your battery a few times....
Once again, many thanks to teh lovely people here for saving my beloved Qtek 9100!!!!!

Elfin won't charge at all

I got my elfin for about 3 years now and today it stopped charging. It won't charge at all with any usbcable nor the wall-charger. The led doesn't turn on. I think the usb jack is broken, but all the pins seem fine. Does anyone have any idea what to do?
If you say the USB jack is gone? did you try conn ur elfin to the computer? is it getting detected?
remove the battery, wait for few minutes, put it back (DO NOT TURN ON ELFIN) and put on charge.
If the USB jack is really broken then you can use a universal battery charger and transfer your files and activesync via bluetooth (only slower)

That didn't work. The computer doesn't detect it at all, I've tried several USB cables.

Well yes, that is the only thing I could think of, but I have none of those. They are fairly expensive to try if you're not even sure.
May be that light is not working properly.
Jus chk whether u see "Charging" in Power settings available in settings -> system.
If it says charging then ur light might have a problem.

I can't check anything, the battery is empty. That's why I think the USB is the cause and not the battery being dead, because it was already near empty when I saw it 'alive' for the last time.
I have the same problem.
Is the battery broken or the phone?
tried another battery
same result
now i'm waiting a tattoo
omg...currently my elfin behave the same way...unfortunately i don't have any other battery to try on
is it possible that your elfin one day just completely stop working? no life whatsoever???
i just can't charge my elfin at all...and yes the battery completely gone
what to do...what to do... *sigh
My Elfin did this last year. The problem for me is the contact pin used for charging in the mini USB jack on the bottom of the phone was squished.
If you look at the bottom edge of the phone with the screen facing the ground then you should see 5 contact pins along the top edge of the mini USB connector. The contact pin on the far left is the charging pin. The contact pins are springy. To fix mine, all I did was use the point of a small pin and gently pried up on the charging pin so it was more exposed.
Hope this helps,

Same problem on my side
In actual fact, when I got my fist elf, it only worked for a month then the screen stopped working. A quick stop at the distributor and a new unit was supplied. The new unit lasted 3 days and would not charge. After spending many hours swapping cables and trying other chargers and batteries, i came to the conclusion that the charging circuit had been damaged. I had the device replaced with another brand new elf and lo and behold, 3 days later, it wouldn't charge again. I took all I had back to the distributor and had everything replaced with new ones, from cables to charger to phone. I got home, flattened the battery with video playback then charged the phone again. To my dismay, it refused to charge. The broken device was returned again The distributor got so sick of seeing me for the same issues, they took my kit, and replaced it with a new elfin which has been working perfectly till today.
My guess is that the HTC devices have a very low tolerance to electric fault or spiking through the USB which causes the charging circuit to malfunction. All in all, my elf was repaired twice and replaced 6 times with new units in the first year alone. My elfin on the other hand may not be the most feature rich phone on the market but has certainly been my favorite.
Hi all,
same problem here. The power-pin just broke off. I'll try to mend it and report here.

HTC HD2 charging problem

i am new to all this windows mobile thing .. bought a used hand HTC HD2...
thing is i tried to connect HD2 with charger but there was no charging sign on mobile screen... after that i tried to connect it with my USB and cell phone starts charging...
turned off my cell phone.. reboot again and now when i try to charge my cell phone through USB wire nothing happens.. Windows Mobile Device Center shows that my cell phone is connected with my PC but there is no charing sing on my cell phone.
I have a extremely basic idea of what you're trying to say. So you tried to hook it up to a wall charger, but it didn't charge. Then you hooked it up with a USB cord and it started charging? Now it wont charge through USB at all? Sounds like the USB port on the phone is busted.

thats right.... but if USB port is broke then why Windows Mobile Device Center shows that is connected with my PC :S
Sounds like a faulty USB port on the phone if a wall charger wont even charge it.
Just to be sure, go to the settings tab in Sense, click on About Phone, then Battery, and make sure that checkbox that says 'When phone is on, do not charge the battery . . ." and make sure it's unchecked.
already unchecked that option. if USB port is faulty why WMDC showing it is connected with PC?
Only the power part, and not data, is dead?
I would take out the battery & check the pins that make contact between the phone & battery incase they're damaged or bent.
Also could be a faulty battery or loose connection on port?

i was thinking the same thing had it happen to me before. the middle pin was bent up a little i just bent it back and all was well from there.
last night i left the phone... now in morning i just changed the Sim and connected again and now its charging...
I am confused because i cant pin point the exact problem...

will check it out..
all these problems i am facing is it because of rom
Hardware:
QualCOMM(R) 8250B
Speed 1024MHz
RAM 448MB
Flash Size 512MB
Software information:
OS version 5.2.21864 ( 21864.5.0.81 )
Manila version 2.5.19202525.0
Rom version1.43.110.2 ( 70315 ) WWE
ROM Date 10/28/09
Radio version 2.04.50.22_2
The HD" doesn't actually show a large battery charging animation across it's screen when it's charging - instead you just get a light illuminated on the earpiece speaker so it's not that obvious that it is charging compared to other devices.
HTC HD2 Leo Charging Problem
If youre having charging problems then my best advice is to remove the sim card and charge it.
It works that way for some reason. I tried everything from trying different chargers and different usb ports. I tried plugging it in to a computer but nothinig seemed to work. So i removed the sim card for no reason and plugged it in and booom It worked!
Hope This Helps-Drian
htc hd2 charging problem
strangely enough, removing the sim card actually allows the phone to be charged....weired
thankss
some slight oxidation (not visually detectable)
For those people where the phone charges without SIM Card:
Since SIM Card is so close to battery, could it be that the contacts of the battery are not making good contact?
It looks like fumbling around with battery helps with your problem.
Have you tried charging with SIM Card and just fumble with battery?
Looks like you are suffering from poor contact between phone and battery. Perhaps some oxidation?
Another solution/test:
Take soft normal pencil (no colouring pencil, B, 2B or softer) try colouring contacts of phone and battery with pencil taking care to "stay within the lines"
This does two things: leave a residue of carbon, which favors making contact and scours slightly removing slight oxidation and or grease, removing that favors contact too.
Similar Problem
I have the same symptoms BUT the device charges under Windows Mobile and NOT Android. I have had the android os crash last night when I didn't know that it wasn't charging and just now it was at 40% and I had it plugged in and did a battery pull to find it dead. Looks like Desire v5 isn't allowing it to charge through USB. Very disappointing situation.
Thank you guys
I woke up this am to a dead phoen that owuldnt charge unless phone was off a quick search and this thread sorted.. I love this website..
To me it all sounds like a bad contact in the micro USB on the phone. I have personally a problem with this and I found this by moving the plug slightly during sync as it cancellers the sync and restarts it.
Now for another problem I have in this direction; I always charge my phone from USB and this gives me no problem, but every now and then (1 in about 10 charges) the phone is locked after disconnecting from power or it switches on OK but after that does not recocnize my password and the only way to get “in” is a hard reset (battery out). Is there anyone had a similar experience or knows a solution.
THanks guys i was thinking i may need to pay money for fixing but it works fine because of your help
Hi all,
After flashing the ROM v.3 Hyper-CM7 XMAREX my Leo does not charge the battery more.
The LED lights up, but the battery will not charge.
I tried the original ROM, but Windows is almost the same thing.
The LED lights alternately red and green but the battery does not charge.
Any advice?
Thank in advance.
Hi guys, i also have a problem with my HD2.
My USB port is broken and i brought it to several shops to fix it but they couldn't fix it.
How can i fix it myself? (And by myself i mean my own dad)
