[TUT+VID]Ultimate Definitive Guide to NAND Android on COMPLETELY NEW HD2 - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey guys, this is the Ultimate Definitive tutorial on how to get an Android ROM (NAND of course, cuz ROM means its in NAND =] to avoid those misunderstandings) working on your HD2, It has an Ultimate Droid ROM as an example (I consider it to be one of the best out there, and we can say tutorial was created to assist this project firstly)
Features:
Clean install explained, no strange problems during your Android expirience
3 parts, ~15 minutes each (definitive, can be used to install Droid onto COMPLETELY NEW HD2)
Works with both 512Leo and 1024Leo
Download links for everything you need (as well as md5 sums)
Every aspect of flashing is fully explained
Flashing process is shown with the buttons pressed (split screen included)
!!!!CHANGING THE BOOT LOGO AFTER MAGLDR!!!!!!! also explained (was looked for by many people before this)
Creation and flasing a splash screen to your HD2
DT's a2sd script set up explained (also partitioning SD and GUI for a2sd)
Now, for some reason it doesnt embed HD videos no matter what I do, so for now you may want to visit youtube for 720p quality
I'd appreciate it if someone told me how to do that
Part1:
Part2:
Part3:
Please comment, rate, subscribe and of course feedback is always welcome
Also if you didnt understand something or have problem you can ask it here or in the comments section for the video But I advise to research on it yourself, because that's the only way you'll learn =)

nice job man,
you made me understand a2sd

Ok, I followed the process completely (ignoring new boot screen and A2SD)
I get the errors on the first bootup, I reboot, and then get "the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" error
This comes up every time I reboot and obviously the phone is un-usable. I've repeated the process more than once.
This happens on a lot of ROMS actually, I've swapped SDCard to rule that out. I've asked this question lots and nobody can give me an answer. What's going on?
Have I just got a b0rked HD2? I've had it since it came out, it's been flashed probably close to a hundred times, and that was before Android even came out, so it's had some heavy use.

Well what about sd, did swapping work?
Formatting with Panasonic SD formatter?
And did you reflash HSPL recently? cuz that fixed my strange problem (not having "htc" logo when flashing something)
Try reflashing your radio, if you didnt (I assume you did), this is everything that comes to my mind
This tutorial should give the same results all the time because its "from scratch" type.

Not being a a$$ here just pointing out an observation. You can not call it the "Ultimate Definitive Guide to NAND Android on COMPLETELY NEW HD2" if you have not included cLK in it as well as MAGLDR. With a title like the one you have it should be completely through. The HD2 now has two custom bootloaders for Android. Now I can not get your videos to pull up for some reason, just says click to install plug in, but does nothing when I click on them. Links to the videos on Youtube would be nice especially seeing as you mentioned going to Youtube to watch the videos. If you have cLK included then dis reguard this post, but I only see MAGLDR mentioned in post #1.
If you don't know about cLK then click on my little guide I wrote that is linked in my sig. I would tell you to keep up the good work but I have not seen it yet lol. Anyway keep fighting the good fight look forward to watching your videos when either I can view them here are Youtube.

The only problem is... I've never used Clk mainly because for some reason i can not get adb on my windows desktop which is hell of a buggy thing... loking forward to install it on linux though So i cant assure people everything will work.. maybe in the future
I'm calling it that because it is the most feature-rich up to date, AFAIK(maybe I'm wrong) and both people who had seen its beta version said that there was a lot of info in it. I'll look into clk when I have time
Links to videos on youtube are in the "Part x" headers in the 1st post, click them to go there and watch the 720p

very very helpful videos and the way you explained every thing was very easy to understand, i feel like i actually learned alot in these videos

very helpful videos thaaaaaaaaaaank u

Special thanks dear gear_rus for this helpful video , i changed my HD2 to Android according to this tutorial ,
last part of the videos (making partitions & installing a2sd) for what it must do ?
and insomuch that tutorial made some month ago , do u suggest a better version rom (whats ur rom now? ) ?

[Q] Newly registered newbie

I have a HD2 that I plan on installing Android on (currently WinMo 6.5), as it's cheaper, I hope, than buying a new phone. I have a step by step guide to follow, along with all the files I need, like HSPL3, MGLDR, and CWM, etc. All I need now is the ROM build. My confusion lies in the fact that the ones I look at seem to be for US T-Mobile HD2's, and mine is an unbranded UK model. I also keep seeing references to LEO512 or LEO1024? I'm pretty sure what I want is on here, but the sheer number of threads/posts will take me forever to work through! Can some kind soul point me in the right direction and I'll take it from there? Thanks.
With the ported android roms you havent to fear to destroy your device flashing a wrong rom.
This issue is only related to wm 6.5 roms/radios.
...you only have to decide if you want to throw wm6.5 away and use a nand build or keep wm6.5 and use a sd build.
Experience
From experience I'd recommend Typhoon rom
link= http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933951
Also the hyperdroid GBX
link=http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=918899
These are one of the best!! Good luck
Click the thanks button if i helped
In quadrant I got only 1200 Score even when i OC to 1,2 Ghz. Why is my score so low?
Above, off topic or what?
Ok. Just watched a video of the HyperDroid install, looks pretty straight forward. But it doesn't have the Sense UI, which I like. CyanogenMod 7 doesn't appear to have it either? (I also don't see the link to the download for CM7 either, but I'm guessing I'm stupid or blind?)
you want any rom that supports the eu leo with 512 in the title

Hey,
1st of all welcome, 2nd - be prepared... android can be very addictive.
As for your questions, LEO512 = European with 512mb rom (which you have) & LEO1024 = tmoUS with 1024mb rom.
If you prefer sense based roms you wont really go wrong with any build from Rafpina, imilka, Sergio76 or cmylxgo. Tho ive found RAFDROID HD builds are very stable & fast, also very straight forward to setup (tho there is NO Best rom id say this is a good starting point)

Yup 2nd that !
Rafdroid is still my favorite everyday build because of the sense widgets which show my emails, news etc on the 'desktop'.
Just about everything works in that build and is a perfect step from WM to Android.
First I would have a go with Android on the SD-card as it also works like it should and should be extreemly simple if you have a correct radio (ver 2,08 and above I thought). Should be easy to check in the software version tab all the way on the right hand side I believe.
After playing with it you can still decide if you want to go natively Android or not.
There are backup tools like Titanium pro which are worth the money.
I betcha will also enjoy the Android market!
And .... welcome to the group!
Thanks for the welcome.
I've decided I'll wipe and install to the Nand memory, I already have a Hero and love Android and the way I can customise it. Will try the process tonight.
Ok. Been at this for a while now, but I'm stumped.
Step one was install HSPL3. Went without a hiccup, no problems.
Step 2 was to install the radio. Chose EUradio (radio leo 5.15.50.14). However, I've tried half a dozen times, Windows says I am connected and I get to the HTC screen with a progress bar but then after 2-3 mins, I get an error message saying there is no communication.
Have tried:
1. different usb ports
2. loading into bootloader screen (coloured bars). Initially it says serial but then switches to USB after a short while. Tried from there, no luck.
3. rebooted the pc, and phone multiple times.
I did a search on the forum for 'no USB communication' but I get different threads bouncing about, none getting the same as me. Any ideas welcomed.

If you want to use ROM Manager with hour HD2 you will have to use cLK for your custom Android bootloader and not MAGLDR. Go and check out the "ROM Manager Now Supports HD2" thread and you can get more info on it there, it os a short bit accurate tutorial post on page two of the thread, it is only three pages right now anyway so not a lot of reading to do.

Do you have the latest version of ActiveSync or WMDC, depending on what Windows your computer uses, installed on your computer? You need the most upcto sate versions of these to flash straight through bootloader.

Thanks, but I've not even reached that part yet. The tutorial I'm following is:
1/ Install HSPL3
2/ Install radio
3/ Install MGLDR
4/ Install CWM
5/ Install Android
I'm currently stuck on step 2.

Yes. I'm running Win7 x64, everything is up to date. I did read you are supposed to turn off any antivirus? I'm using M$ Security Essentials. Would this affect it?

Hi,
You should be using :
radio version 2.15.50.14,which you can get here:
http://www.multiupload.com/QP0IWGY42F
"Initially it says serial but then switches to USB after a short while."
When it changes to USB ,that is the time to start flashing the radio.
Forgot to ask earlier, should I be removing the sim card while doing this? I've been putting in a spare one so I don't affect my 'real' one.

It should not make any difference.
I never take mine out when I change ROMS etc.

My apologies. It was a typo error earlier. I have been trying 2.15.50.14, it failed so I tried 2.08.50.05 + task29. Neither worked. Just downloaded from the link you posted, in case my file was corrupt, exactly the same, comms error (Error 262).

As it was bought sim free, could there be something on it blocking the software? Or on my pc?

Yes and obviously you knew that! So common dictates that this question will have been asked before and because it is a obvious question there will be guides/sticky topics about it.
The whole purpose of the guides etc is so that people read them, not just assume they dont exist, not bother to check and the create topics asking for them. Please use some common sense!
Just boot into MAGLDR and flash with the installer that comes with the rom, simple!
If you haven't got magldr either then you need to go read teh magldr thread.
Simply put your device into bootloader mode (hold volume down button while booting) then run magldr flasher or use the all-in-one HD2 tools in the Android NAND sticky thread.
PS. PLEASE watch the following video to the END!
Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939682/ carefully, and you will know what to do. After done the step C, boot into the MAGLDR, go to 5. USB flasher, run the DAF.exe in your favorite rom.

sir, i read a lot before flashing anything on my phone,bt still somethings like having "2.xx.51.xx" or ny hd2 with 51 in as its radio will brick, always miss out,
yes ppl do post guides, they post it coz on their mobile it works, ppl DO follow their guide before flashing anything,bt they still do get bricks,as every phone is unique and have different variable associated with em.
i just wanted to make a checklist of things to check before flashing anything,
and abt that video, sir believe me i am more than capable of abusing/insulting verbally, but unlike u, i RESPECT ppl and try to think BEFORE saying anything . seeing ur thanks meter m sure u were capable posting something useful that wld have saved someone's hd2,but u chose to post that.

Help a newbie out please

I recently brought a HTC HD2 and I wanted to change the Windows Mobile OS to the android OS. I tried reading the instruction here on the forum on how to do it but no luck...damn I'm just not techsavvy enough to do this. If anyone have the time to help me...I would appreciate it. I think it would be best if we chatted 1 on 1 on a AIM messenger or whatever on the step-by-step procedures. Thanks!
all the steps are on the guides, you will need to do alot of reading, ill be honest if you read the guides and still dont understand how to do it, you woudl be better off sticking to winmo or putting on an SD version of android
I tried reading the guides but it's confusing as hell with all the instructions scrambling around. Shoot I just don't want to brick my phone...

Mate,
What kind of Android do you want to run on your HD2?
Is it NAND or is it SD Android? Do you know the difference?
If you only want to have SD Android, then it will be easier for you to follow.
And you can keep your WInmo. I mean you will have 2 OS, i.e Winmo and SD Android. Just like mine (see my sig below)
The first thing you have to do is installing SPL 2.08 HSPL.
To do that, you have to go into bootloader screen. How? Turn off your phone.
Now, press the VOLUME DOWN and POWER ON BUTTONS at the same time, and release only after the FOUR COLORS SCREEN appear (Red, Blue, Green and White). If you arrive at this point, then you now know how to boot into the so called "Bootloader Screen".
Now, Check at the white color part (the below part) whether there is any text say: "Serial" (without quote). If yes, now you can connect your hd2 to your PC using USB cable. In doing this, you should plug in the rear (not front) usb port of your PC. If this is the first time, your PC would need time to install the necessary USB driver. If succeeded, you will see the text "Serial" now has changed to "USB". You can proceed to next step, i.e installing SPL 2.08 HSPL.
Remember HSPL is always be required for flashing ROM, etc. You will see it HSPL mentioned all over the HD2 forums. So you have to be able to install HSPL before going to further step.
Sorry, if I forgot, you also have to download HSPL 4. It is an application for installing SPL 2.08 HSPL and other SPL. You can download it from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433&highlight=HSPL+4
Once you downloaded HSPL 4, extract it to whatever folder in your PC.
Keep in mind, it is for PC running MS Windows. If you are running Windows 7, you have to run as an administrator.
Now, while in the bootloader, connected you USB, and the text already changed to "USB", you run HSPL 4 from your PC. You have to follow the instruction there carefully. So, please read the guides provided in the link mentioned above.
If you can achieve this stage, then we can go on to the next level, i.e Flashing Radio, Task 29, etc.
Goodluck

This guy makes it sound difficult For SD Android, you need to go to http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1043&news_id=782 and install Rom upgrade 3.14 (just connect phone to computer and press a button, that's really all you have to do). You should be fine, but if you want to then check that you have SPL 3.03 and radio 2.15 (in bootloader and WinMo settings>software information respectively) then download an android build (I recommend AmeriCanAndroid), put it on your SD card (Copy and paste) and press two files on file explorer (clrcad and haret). You will then have Android and Windows Mobile
No HPSL, Radio, Task 29 etc needed. In other words: YOU CANNOT BRICK YOUR PHONE.

Good idea.
You obviously don't have the head or the patience to read instructions so stick to what you have now.

lol, dude I was just giving you some friendly advice. You made it blatantly obvious that you didn't have the mentality or patience to get into flashing Android and would have likely screwed your device up one way or another simply because you admitted yourself and I quote..

You best option is to stay away from flashing Android and to stick to Windows Mobile and possibly decide to boot Android from SD instead of flashing. Once you have spent some time reading, learning and understand the process more you can branch out to maybe installing MAGLDR on your device and then flashing Android.
Back to your pathetic and quite frankly childish attempt and insulting me.. What you said only go towards yourself, Any virgin can come up with that crap as an insult "hey you cant get laid", Dude I would put money on it that I was getting laid before you was probably even born or possibly still in primary school. Also whats wrong with jacking off to pr0n on the interwebz???

A virgin would definitely put money on the line to prove that they're not a virgin. The only way you going to prove that you got laid is that you paid a hooker to bang you. Bloke, you're just trying too hard to prove something from a random stranger on the internet. You're so funny...that childish attempt of mine seems to hit a nerve because YOU'RE THE ONE that is fazed.
P.S. never take advices from a Brit on how to get laid! LOL!
I must say this thread sums up the difficulty one experiences trying to learn the guides on this site, very badly written, at least for noobs (which is what they all claim to be.. "ultimate noob guide".. not).
There could be just a few choice stickies to solve so many issues... like a post that get updated or voted on as to what is the fastest running rom for X device..
Basic descriptions of the strange terms used.
Explainations that HTC seem to be very unstable when flashing. I have seen one attempt to be flashed 10 times, and the 11th times it JUST WORKED - no rhyme or reason. No wonder people freak out on here.
I have spend a few days just trying to get basic direction, I finally get a rom on my HD2, it is slow and flaky as, but I am hella scared to touch it becuase it was an absolute sh*t fight to get that one on there. Now I have wasted another half day trying to figure out what a better, faster NAND rom will be, if SuperRam is bettr (?!?) jesus christ I just want a stable phone.
You guys flaming people for not knowing the mountain of crap to learn about flashing roms are a bit harsh IMO.

These douchebags thinks they're the sh*t because they know all of this stuff. Asshole like theAtheist keep telling me to read the instructions...well no sh*t sherlock...I wouldn't be creating this thread for help if I didn't have trouble following the instruction. Completely lost going from Windows Phone 7 to android or a better wp7

Hi, I'm completely lost I'm also a Noob I haven't flashed a rom since I owned a HTC vogue which was a very long time ago and I can imagine it isn't the same.
My mom's HD2 is running wp7 I don't know the name of it but it don't work too good no market, she can't get texts because of a space issue and apparently she can't set up her internet for Simple mobile..
Now we're stuck she loves wp7 so we found a Tiger rom but we get an error every time (something about sd card init)?
She wants either WP7 (working) or Android
So far we have
Magldr 13
HSPL or whatever and a 5.51 radio
and I cannot figure out if we can even flash a rom because everything says 2.08 and I don't want to brick her only phone.
We are super lost I saw the noob video and yes I am I noob but I just want her phone working by tonight shes in school and I don't know a thing about Flashing and I don't understand none of this I have a Samsung Infuse.
Help us please I searched all on google about going from Wp7 to android and I could not get my answer.
I would THANK anyone who offers some kinda help tonight.
You should try this ROM. I use it on my HD2 and it's really good. It's updatable via Zune or via cab sender.
What you need to know about WP7 is that the type of SD card you're using matters a lot. It can give you all kinds of problems.
Do some reading on that thread and have a go at it. So long as you've got HSPL 2.8 and magldr installed, you should not be able to easily brick the phone.
EDIT: as is my usual, I forgot to put the link in.

Sounds to me like somebody has been messing with moms phone and screwed it up
Mate...there are so many posts on flashing what and in what order in this section alone it is pretty pointless me typing them out again.
But in direct response to the issues you mentioned.
SD card . You need to make sure your SD card is clean and formatted (FAT 32)before you flash a WP7 rom. Unlike other phone OS's , WP7 has to have a good working SD card in order to work.
As many members (including me) have recommended in the past. The best starting point is to TASK29 it (wipe) and install an original WP6.5 rom first.
That way you can make sure all the hardware is working properely.
Then go download all the software you need ( HSPL 2.08, MAGDLR, Radio, Rom of choice) Plenty of links scattered all over this forum.
And remember to always hard reset your phone after you have flashed the ROM !!! Not doing this can give all kinds of grief.
Your moms market place probably isnt working because the phone isnt activated with micro soft. Loads of threads on activation. take a few mins to read them.
There are other markets ( for apps) that don't require activation. Some roms included them "in" the ROM.
Good luck

First of all read the 'how to' links in my signature. Secondly, sounds like whoever installed wp7 on the phone never entered the required activation code to access marketplace from the phone with a windows live id.
Thirdly, sounds like you have Yuki/XBmod's ROM. This ROM locks the SD card for security in case of a lost phone. Go the WP7 development forum and read the first post in both Back To The Future thread and the companion SP1 threads to learn about how to unlock the SD card. Or the other path is to use a new SD card.
You can either install Yuki/XBmod again which is the current version of WP7 Mango v8107. If you don't want to worry about locking SD issues try flashing one of the other ROMs. I've tried Pjad..something's ROM and.it's pretty stable even with the beta v8773. I've heard good things about HD2O's ROM too.
The thing about Yuki/XBmod ROM is it is updatable via Microsoft update. The other's are updatable unless you flash again and setting up your phone from scratch everytime. The only other ROM I know of that is updatable like Yuki's is the HD2O ROM.
It's up to you which you choose.
As for setting up for Simple...there is a new updated cab that has Simple setups for you to use. I think that once you install Connection Setup from the HTC Marketplace it'll have the setup you need regardless of which ROM.
Also, read the General Questions forum for information on obtaining a WP7 activation code.
I would recommend the real MS Marketplace for relatively less risky WP7 apps....so get an activation code. It's not difficult.

[Q] I've failed to install android countless times.

Hello members of XDA forum,
I seem to have a little problem currently, and have in fact had this problem for around 2 week's now, with tinkering for a total of around 10-15 hours to try install android onto my HTC HD2 phone.
I have recently been given a HD2 from a family member as they have receive a upgrade in there contract and decided to let me have a updated phone (as long as it text's rings and can check emails/facebook it's a great phone to me)
Now i have currently tried following multiple guides around to get me into the zone for starting to get used to installing android, but without any luck, i have mainly been trying to do the steps from this guide " How to Install Android on HTC HD2 – Android 4.0.4 " search on google.
But so far i haven't had any luck, and to be totally honest i have no idea why, i have great computer knowledge but this is seriously confusing me right at the moment, and I'm really tempted to just give in and go back to a outdated stock android phone, but i have put countless hour's into learning this. (attempting to)
Now the reason i wish to update from windows 6.5 is because market place and apps are no longer supported which is not good for my facebook/email need's and i really need to try and get a updated version of co-pilot for my motorbike which is why i want to upgrade to this phone.
Tonight i have spent 3 hour's following that guide, and i think i got as fair as i ever have, it all seem'd to install great, but when the phone booted up it was just like a animated screen saver and not doing anything at all apart from that, i have managed to get stock 6.5 windows on the phone around 12 times now? and still try to find updated detailed yet EASY to read guides, i have used the search bar on the forums but it seem's people have different problems, if some-one could throw me towards a good guide it would be amazing, i have tried nano i think, but wouldn't mind using a SD card to boot it off if that is alot easier/simpler, i'm really sorry if this does get asked alot but i have searched multiple times to try find a solution.
If no one has the time to try at help me out it's quite understandable due to the fact this is rather confusing to some-one who is new to the scene. but if some-one can help and would advise a different android version with a guide for that, that would be amazing.
I will check back and attempt again regardless in 18 hour's.
Thanks and regard's
Aaron.
Hi and welcome,
I would suggest making a short version of your post. That is a lot of text, without very useful information.
What useful information? Read below:
Which version of HSPL do you have?(Boot up the phone while holding volume down, it says there)
What radio are you on? (You can find this at the bottom left of the screen when booting up the phone. Or alternatively, you can find it after booting into Windows Mobile, in the settings)
Which bootloader have you tried using? ((MAGLDR or cLK) How to know? MAGLDR has a black screen with about 12 options to choose from. And it says aMAGLDR at the top. Otherwise you have cLK)
Are you using DataOnExt? (When installing the ROM, did you choose such option?) (And if you do, do you have the proper partitions on your sd card?)
As a beginning, I will advise you to follow a guide I wrote last year. The guide is rather easy and straightforward if you have the prerequisites already. Click here for the guide.
