For some reason acer decided not to put the exchange feature onto the tablet which i found quite annoying. thankfully user member id10terrordfw found a way to fix this and posted the apks.
to get exchange working you first need root and either root explorer (paid app but worth the money) or es file explorer (free but you have to enable root privaleges inside the app. its under the settings menu)
1. navigate to system/apps and copy email.apk and email.odex
2. past these to your sd card as a backup
3. rename email.apk and email.odex to email.apk.old and email.odex.old
4. extract the files from the download and past them into the system/apps folder. (they should be Email.apk and EmailWidget.apk)
5. once done you can then go to email and try and setup an exchange account.
previously it only gave an imap and pop3 selection on the manual setup page. now it should include exchange as an option.
tested and working by me
again a big big thank you to the original poster/fixer the original thread is

I attempted these instructions but after renaming the email.apk and email.odex, the e-mail app doesn't show in the list of apps installed. I attempted to install the email app from the files provided and it won't install.
My tablet is rooted and I made the changes using Root Explorer.

you're not supposed to install them, just drop them in the correct folder
sorry my reply to this post didn't include that i extracted the files to my flash drive and copied the files from the flash drive to the system/apps folder.

please help...

Thanks.. i repeated the hole process again and after three rebooting it works now and finally i can receive my company eMails naturally.
its a shame no search feature for this mail app.
Email FCs
I was able to copy the 2 APK files and configure my Exhange account but after it opens for a few seconds, it FCs.
Anyone had the same problem?
exchange is working
2 conditions:
1. you have to add an account in settings sync choose company
2. you have o define a pin code
3. you have to encrypt your device.
i am at the encryption stage takes an hour especailly to find out if it slows down somewhat.
so before barking check.
What a load of baloney. If you have the update from 139 or higher, all you have to do,with the default email client, is go to Settings , Accounts. Tap Add Account, Choose Corporate and set it up as normal. No PIN or encryption needed.

Getting exchange to work
Hi all,
I finally got it working but I had to do just about everything in this thread.
Use the (paid) Root Explorer, all the others just won't get the (root) privileges needed to rename and paste, eventhough they might say they have. I fiddled around with this for an hour before I gave up and bought the root explorer app.
Check the permissions of the original files (email.apk and email.obex), when you have pasted your new files into the /system/apps folder the permissions will probably be different. Reset them to what the original files were otherwise your e-mail app will not show up in the apps list.
Reboot! My email app disappeared and only returned when I rebooted.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the original post in this thread!!

PIN and Encryption requirements are set by your exchange server. Requirements change depending on how your IT has the server set up.
ok if you think so. I just can tell you that it will not allow to connect to exchange as long as you have not encryptet the device, and this has nothing to do with exchange requirements, but with standard ACER policy, ie. if you use it as a company device you should encrypt the device.
I am exchange administrator using as well exchange 2007 and 2010 virtualized exchange servers and i am sure i know what i am talking about. ACTIVESYNC does not require any encryption at all.
but of corse i am talking about the standard email client coming from ACER/GOOGLE, not some other made up email client needing root and so on.
but you can believe it or not, up to you, but that is the way it works.

Ok so seems I've seen this asked in a few differnt theards so I fig I would just post up info once.
For uploads, yes its disabled, but there is a work around. Go to linda file mgr. Long press the file u want, select send to, then gmail (email doesn't work for some reason, has to be gmail). It will automatically bring u to a new email with the file attached ready to send. I've tested this with all types of files, test up to 7mb so far.
Now to get uploads working on websites...
Thanks, that helped a bunch. Good luck getting upload to work =D
Thank you so much for this!!!!!! I really needed it couple of days ago... I know now!
Ok so I have an update on my tests, but first let me clear up some things I've read in here.
Just installing linda file mgr will enable Downloading of any file type, but uploads though browser are disabled. Thats why i came up with this method.
So test results:
Yes you can Upload .zip files. I sent a few small ones to my other email. You can pretty much send Any file type.
Yes there is a file size limit. Only bigger files I had on my phone was .mp4 and 1 update.zip(46mb). The size limit is around 20 mb. I sent several up too and including a 19.46mb.mp4 and all went though.I then sent a 24mb.mp4 and would not go though. It just hangs in outbox. If after 30 mins (or whenever ur satisfied that it won't send) delete it out of out box, because u won't receive new emails till its deleted, cause its repeatly trying to send I guess.
Can a mod pls change the title of this thread to something like "yes you can upload any file type in gmail" or something like that so people know this is a how too and not a question. thanks.
can u download from the web or not

Yes g1 in its stock form will let u download "known file types". installing linda file mgr installs a plug in that let's you download any file type. What I am telling u how to do is upload, that is send any attachment you want though gmail.
ASTRO 1.3.11 includes this plugin for the browser download as well. question is now, How do I download pdfs and the like using the GMail program... I can preview the file. How do I save it?

You can't dl them in the gmail app, but you can go to gmail.com in ur browser, when u click on the pdf (or any other file type for that matter) it will automattically download it to ur sd card

Joestone’s Gingerbread has EMail app and has support for Exchange Sync(Corporate Account). However, Swiftdroid 2.0 M6 lacks this. Email.apk ripped from Joestone’s Gingerbread works perfectly with Swiftdroid 2.0 M6.

Update:
Would work on most CM7/Gingerbread builds and may work on many CM6/Froyo.
I’m attaching a copy of Email.apk. It is from Joestone's Gingerbread which is from AOSP and comes with Apache License.
You should install the provided apk as a system app on your Swiftdroid 2.0 M6 system.
Installing using Root Explorer.
Download the attached Email.apk to somewhere in the SD card.
Open Root Explorer.
Navigate to the downloaded to EMail.apk and copy it.
Navigate to /system/ and tap mount as r/w.
After /system/ is mounted as r/w, navigate to /system/app and paste Email.apk.
Long-press newly pasted Email.apk and select Permissions.
Change permissions by checking Read for User, Group and Others. Also, check Writer for User. This should change the file permissions to rw-r--r-- just like all the other apps.
Last but not the least, restart your phone immediately.
That’s it. Now, when you reboot, you should see EMail in the app drawer and you should also be able to add “Corporate” account by going to Settings > Accounts and Services > New Account.
I have tested this on my LG GT540 Optimus running Swiftdroid 2.0 M6. This may work on other 2.3/2.2 builds on any ROM/phone that lacks the Email app which is default in AOSP.
Advanced users may wish to install the apk via Terminal Emulator. Should you decided to install via Terminal or ADB Shell, the steps are the same. You should first mount /system/ as read/write. Then, copy the Email.apk to system/app. Then, change permissions of system/app/Email.apk as rw-r--r--. There are plenty of other guides on how to install apks as system apps. The same steps apply here. I’d skip the details.
I’d like to remind you all that Hotmail(Windows Live Mail) now supports Microsoft Exchange Sync(and, thus push email) for all users including free users and this is the main reason I wanted Exchange. =D
Just in case you want to setup your Live Id(Hotmail) with Android, here are the settings.
Domain: (Nothing. Not even space.)
Username: Your full email id.
Server: m.hotmail.com (SSL: enabled)
Go here for a detailed guide with step-by-step illustrations.

Well, this method worked out for me. I've synced two accounts already. EMail seems to be working fine.
Most of the time, the required libs are packaged with the apk I guess. And, when you reboot, the system should install(extract) the apk, I think.
Further, like I said earlier, EMail should not need any low level access to drivers and stuff. It basically needs access to write to contacts, calendar and data storage as well as internet. All of which should be accessed using the Android API. So, it should work. This was my assumption when I started looking around.
I do not know why the EMail was omitted but CM7 does have the EMail built-in.
Anyway, as long as it can fetch my emails, am happy. =)
were is the Email.apk file in your startpost?
For some reason or other, and I cannot see the file either. Am on mobile. I'll reupload if I cannot see it desktop either.

All the later versions including M6, M5 do not have an email apk. This was purposely omitted by Mur4ik I believe. I guess he doesn't use it. This apk was extracted from Joestone's AOSP Gingerbread and should technically work on any Gingerbread or CM7 build.

It's not a bug. lol. The error speaks for itself. Are you using Mur4ik modified partition? It just means system partition is full. You can check free space by typing df in terminal emulator or adb shell df.
You need approximately 2MB free space for this app. Leave at least 5-10% free space in system partition.

Install it on data/app(as a user app). Don't move it to SD. There won't be any problems but basically an EMail app is something you want to be on your phone always even when you have the SD removed.
I accidentally deleted the default contacts apk from my kindle fire. Could somebody with a rooted device post the apk of the contacts apk.
Note: i was trying get google contacts sync working, then read somewhere else that I actually need the stock contacts apk. Doh!
There you go!
BTW, after rooting and installing the googleblahblahblahframework, you need an app named sync settings to access the sync settings page and enable contact sync and voilá!
Actually, you don't have to download sync settings at all!
go to gmail>>>menu>>>accounts>>>(dont click your account)>>>hit menu again>>>account settings>now hit your account and you're in your sync settings.
Contact sync?
Is one of those options contacts because I am not seeing it...

Rash, instilation is easy. You need to use root explorer, copy and paste the apk in the /system/app folder then you have to set the permisions by holding down on the apk. Set the first column(vertically) so each box has an X. In the second column you need an X in the top box. The rest of the boxes need to be empty. For an example you can find the video tutorial on youtube about installing the market. Diffrent apk here but the steps are the same.
I hope its not to soon for a double post but could someone upload the contacts provider apk as well?
it's on the same site post #2
The attached file is only the contacts apk not the provider apk, and sync settings, if thats what you were refering to is not the same app to my knolwedge. The provider apk is from google. Even if thats needed i cant find it on the market from the fire.

I have been searching for a security bypass that would work for ICS since I got my A500. I wanted to be able to either use facelock or no lockscreen at all on my tablet. I also do not like my sys admin having complete remote wipe authority on my device much less having to have my entire device encrypted. These files bypassed all that.
I have tested this for the Tegraowner 4.04 ICS rom v160 and works thus far.
To install, unzip the attached file, and, using whatever .zip editor you have, open the ROM you are intending to install, go to the \system\app\ folder, and replace the Email.apk and Exchange.apk files therein with those from the attached file.
then . . . Flash that ROM in the normal sequence. (PS I used total commander on the tablet to make the edit to the ROM file, 7zip would not make changes to that particular ROM's zip file.)
Alternatively, you can do this without reflashing the ROM but it does not always seem to work perfectly. To do this, delete your exchange email account. Clear app cache for exchange. Make sure no device admins are seen in the system settings/security tab, then use root explorer (must fix file permissions using root explorer) or adb to add the files to \system\app\ folder. Then reboot and add the account.
Note, it will still ask you about the security imposed by exchange but not actually implement those security requirements. eg on my tablet, it indicated that my exchange had security requirements but did not say anything further and did not add the exchange server as a device admin in the system settings/security tab.

top that work on my ICS 4.0.4 HTC Desire :good:
Thank you!
This worked on Desire with sandvold ICS 0.15.0.1
Did not work on my Galaxy S3. I keep getting FCs for email and overall stability is degraded. Looking at the other threads for this, it may be because the stock rom is odexed? I may just pay $5 for an OWA viewer until someone can fix this for the S3.
Works perfect and is so much better than the stock Email app. I would really appreciate if you add a couple of features to this already awesome apk.
1. There is no option to set 'Out of Office Settings' from my phone while using this app.
2. Also, each time a mailer with pictures comes, I need to save settings for individual sender for automatic-picture-download-permissions.
If these two things can be added, it would be the best Email patch available. Thanks

IF I use the red and white, i can setup email fine but security is still there. My guess is the i did something wrong while installed the new mail.apk

Update for JB
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520431
I have tried looking for another email app that is similar, but so far no luck.
There are several things I like about the stock app
1. separation by day (today, yesterday, last 7 days etc)
2. a checkbox to select all email from that day
so far most email apps seem to lack both of these things. most seem to be headed towards everything dumped into one group and 'swipe to delete email' stuff. But sometimes you have a few dozen (or more) junk emails and just want a simple checkbox to select all and delete.
So long story short: is there an .apk for the stock samsung email app? Or does anyone know of another email app that has these same functions?

After you download and extract the zip go to the extracted folder and then inside it to system/app and you'll find both the stock email app as well as the exchange apk if you need that too. Try to install the email app like any other apk. If it fails to install you will have to root your phone if it's still not and use something like Root Browser to put the email app's apk in your phone's system/app folder. Then you'll need to reboot the phone to see it with all your other applications.
PS: The zip file could easily be a flashable zip through a custom recovery like TWRP but I can't say for sure so better do it manually just in case. I'm not responsible for anything you do to your phone while trying this ^^ But the worst thing that could happen is that the app won't run.
