My only major complaint about the Touch is that the mic volume / sensitivity seems way too high. If i am somewhere with any background noise, WHOEVER i am talking to *****es that they can not hear a word im saying. Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone know where in the reg i can change some values to lower the sensitivity of the mic? Thanks.

I got the same problem.
Audiopara.csv
You can search for the thread on the audiopara.csv file found in the windows dir. I have played with it a little and modified it to have a greater volume range on the upper and lower ends, but I'm not sure about modifying the mic sensitivity. Be careful, make a backup of the original file. I may post my final file when I get done testing.

I didn't exactly understand what it said about using the audiopara.csv file.
Do you need to change your rom? Or can it be used on an otherwise unmodified phone?
Audiopara.csv
I have modified the audiopara.csv file located in the \windows directory. There are 6 levels of volume and I have lowered the bottom two to be very quiet (for privacy) and the top one to be very loud for use in noisy environments. I have not modified the mic settings, but they are there too. You do not have to change your ROM, you can modify the file using Excel. Ultimately, if you save the file to a safe place on your hard drive, you can then make a copy, play with it, then copy it over the one on your phone, you can use trial and error and see what works. If you don't like what you did, you can take the original and copy it over the modified one on your phone. I am posting my 2low 1hi version. Good luck.

Amazing. Thanks a lot!
I'll give it a shot when I get home.
One last thing, if I feel like messing around with the settings, which are the values I want to change? I believe it's row 21 to 26 (phone headset), but I can't tell which column it is. J seems to be the only one with ascending values, in hex. Is that right?
For the other settings am I right to assume that handfree is the speaker on the back and earcuple is if you are wearing headphones?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just quite curious as to how it works.
Audiopara.csv
Well, not exactly. I changed the earcuple settings. Those are the ones that affect the normal phone speaker (not headset, bt, or speakerphone speaker) I will try to test the other settings. I, however, have not had a problem with any other settings. Btw, I'm using dcd's 0.20 ROM which works quite well, only minor glitches. I'm guessing that the RevA/GPS ROM will have some bug fixes as well. Hopefully, we won't need to tweak so much with the new one.
So it's the earcuple settings that you need to play with?
Was is right about column J in hex? Is that what you're modifying? In decimal it goes from about 20000 to 60000 right?
Now for some off-topic: I don't really understand the big deal with RevA and GPS rom? What's that all about? Is RevA just faster EVDO? and GPS is the approximate cell tower thing for google maps MyLocation? Is that it?
EDIT: found the answers to these questions on another forum. RevA sounds sweet.

Beuh_jonny,
Oh, its a big deal. RevA is much faster and GPS will allow Nav programs to basically turn your phone into a Garmin/TomTom/Magellan device and allow LiveSearch to already know where you are to find businesses quick.
To stay on thread,
I am still playing with the audio file, but I'd love to know exactly what parameters do what! Someone from the HTC programming camp would know!

These are the values in column J and they appear to be the only values that change. The problem is I have no idea what these mean. How can I make the volume louder? I could just start putting in various letters and numbers but that would take me forever!
I am having the same issue. Unfortunately I can't pinpoint when the problem started. My girlfriend just told me that it has been going on for at least a month.
The problem is that the microphone seems to amplify all of the background sounds, like there is some sort of audio limiter/compressor that is way jacked up.
Too bad no one seems to have offered any ideas regarding this specific problem in this thread...
Thanks if you can help.

Where can a person go to learn about Reg Edits? I would like to try and learn what they do and the meaning of the different Registry. WHere to Start?
Thank you
Here's a good article you can start with:
http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/howto/how_to_edit_the_registry.html
Yes that was a good article but already know how to edit but was wondering how do I learn what all the different keys and subkeys values and settings do. I find this all very interesting but want to learn more. Thank you

Then just ask! That article went over the basics of what each value does, what exactly are you trying to do?
Learn what it all does. I want to find out what all the numbers and things mean when I set something to a value. Like when you change the GPSMode from 2 to 1 what is happening. I heard that 1 is using the phone for the GPS or standalone. I think there are 4 different numbers in this field. Just would like more. Thank you.

Well if that's the case, then you need to just read up everywhere you can. The article you read gave you the idea of how a registry works. Every key value does something different, so there is no extensive guide on what certain values do, it depends on what your changing. There are no "categories" of changes really, each key has different values. Typically when changing "DWORD" values, from 0 to 1, or visa versa, your choosing on/off, or yes/no. As for the GPS, it's also a "DWORD" value, but its affects have a different change on the system.
I'm looking for a way of changing the MIC level on the Shift so that the mic sensitivity is higher.
I'm looking into a file called audiopara3.csv, and I think this is the file to edit.
However, I can't figure out what kind of numbers or values which are used in the file.
Here is a little peek of the file:

I think I have to change the values between the commas, but I don't know what kind of values these are?
Are they HEX or something else?
I guess I can't get help with just raising the sensivity level, but maybe someone recognizes the types of values in this file?
Any help greatly appreciated
