Well via to an article over at Android Central, and Bloomberg: Business Week, its been said by Google that they wont be releasing the source code for Honeycomb. The reasoning behind it apparently is to keep your small time, crap companies, from trying to put 3.0.x onto a device and giving android a bad rep. So I dont think we will be seeing any ROMs until Ice cream.

Google Holds Honeycomb Tight
It will delay distribution of new Android tablet source code to outside programmers
We'll get it eventually..
Eventually we may but they are saying they dont want craplet devices coming out that aren't intended to run HC. Yea I can see them releasing the source code, after they get a version of this new style android that runs on phones and tables, AKA ice cream. They also say that it wont be release in the foreseeable future, I take this as dont loose sleep waiting for it.

I Saw somewhere that they are only holding the source code back from the masses to ****up. you can still request & sign for the source code if you ask google directly.
IANAL, but if the owner of the source code decides not to publish, isn't that their right? regardless what "Licence" they publish it under?
When it comes to preventing carriers from putting money sucking spamware on your phone googles "that would jepordize the very definition of open source". But when it comes to releasing the source code for developers to smooth out and patch their half baked OS so each consumer (who paid an unwarranted premium for their device in the first place) can have the free choice of how they would like their "open source" OS to function googles.
Say it aint so.
MOD EDIT: Language
I think people need to relax on this issue. Google will release it when they are ready. Either way I can almost guarantee that it will be leaked. The Dev community always gets what I needs. To be honest it is a little annoying that the android community freaks out over everything. Everyone just relax. I am going to go back to enjoying my Xoom.

Here's the deal guys. The legend JesusFreke has stated that he needs source to update his programs smali / baksmali. The are the base tools for decompiling framework and apk.
we cannot deodex rom without those tools. Thus we cannot modify smali and XML. So we are stuck with a stock rom. But we have kernel source which is far more important.
So, its all good for now
Is it still possible to theme the Stock ROM without deodexing? I thought I read somewhere that you could but it was not as easy.
Samsung probably pissed them off for putting their craptastic TouchWiz on the new Galaxy Tabs.
I bet you we'll see the Honeycomb source around the I/O in May. I bet we'll also get the deal on 2.4 and some hints for the next version which will unify the tablet and phone forks back into one.

My guess is Google is probably more worried about all the bagnasty China tabs that have flooded the market all running earlier versions of Android.. Imagine the cheap China crap that would hit the streets if they released the HC Source.. No way the masses would pay the big bucks for the Google sanctioned Tablets when they could pick up a China tab for pennies on the dollar..
While I don't think Google is doing themselves any favors by taking this approach, I would point out that folks would probably make more headway spending time porting Ubuntu or one of the other Linux distributions to the Xoom than trying to prevail on Google to change their ways.
Let's Take A Deep Breath Folks
I'm going to keep this short because I'm not a developer yet, so I'm only qualified to speak as a user and as a grateful member of this forum. As I understand it, in order to be "open" the code has to eventually be released (kind of like non-packaged Linux, i.e. CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.).
From what I've experienced, the only people that DON'T want code coming to us are the carriers. When you folks develop way better ROMs than the crap with bloatware that they try to pass off to us, it hurts their wallets - BFD!!
I'm honored and proud of you guys and I KNOW that the Google probably held it for legitimate problems that they're going to fix for us. Once that's done, they KNOW that once you get a hold of it, more people are going to be exposed to it which only makes more people want future versions. that's how I got snagged by you folks, first with Windows Mobile and then with Android.
I have faith in parts of the system. I have faith in Google to deliver their end, it's the carriers and their greedy practices that I don't trust. Keep the faith folks, take a deep breath and relax. XOOM has been here for only a minute, but we KNOW that it's unlocked, it's rooted and as soon as the 4G hardware and the SD card issues are resolved, we're going to be hip-deep in better versions of the ROMs. I believe that with all my heart because you folks have shown it to me time and again.
It's gonna be great - just wait and see.
I had my atrix since the release and i'm now starting to question if i should keep it. Right now i'm running 2.3.4 and the battery is horrible. I browse other phone forums and i see that they have multiple roms different roms with most multiple different developers and have made actual developments and the biggest development we have is barely functional. It seems that most of the developments on the atrix are theme wise from the same devs, no disrespect to devs working on the atrix because i know they have worked hard. And i heard rumors that the atrix community doesn't have much developers to begin with, so the question is should i move on to a different phone?

We had a locked bootloader until very recently. This is why there aren't many ROMs yet. Gingerbread is set for a July (hopefully) release. With the Gingerbread kernel source, ROM developers will have a lot more to work with. At the moment, there's only 1.2.6 (old 2.2.1 Froyo) source available.
Be patient! Of course, if you're loaded with cash, you can go buy additional/replacement phones. For now, the Atrix is arguably the best piece of hardware on AT&T's network.
Also we only saw the bootloader being unlocked recently...

Hello my fellow HTC Desire HD users and developers.
My name is StJohn, I'm from South Africa.
I'm very dissapointed to see that we have been left behind in the ICS race.
Nexus one users are seeing progress with ICS, along with the desire users, and a couple others. The desire users already have a flashable ZIP...
So heres the big question:
Where is our ICS progress? Is there no developers working on one for us?
The Desire HD hardware is ahead of the desire, so thats not an excuse. And I
know theres no source code yet, but developers are making progress with the SDK just to give users a taste of ICS at least. I just want to see the same progress for the Desire HD users. Wheres our ICS?
Hi
Developers here tend to wait for the official release before doing anything like that. It saves a ton of hassle because theres less that will go wrong and less complaints and things.

Yep, Cyanogen is the most stock like custom ROM I know of, and if they can't make it yet, it must not be fit for general use.

While I agree with the point. CM mod is not really all that close to stock anymore. It has its own framework and built in mods. Nothing wring with it as I use a CM bases rom from time to time.
But I do agree with the fact they are wanting to wait for the source. The sdk is not enough to build anything worth releasing right now. Mainly with huge population of new to Modding people on XDA now. A couple of years ago I would have been all over the sdk as well and tossed something out there knowing that the people using it would be able to help with the loads of issues that it Will have for sure. Can't do that now. To many people blindly flashing with know real idea of what is going on and don't know how to give proper feedback and bug reports. Now I know this is just due to people being new and we were all new at once but now there are more people coming from an iPhone or this is there first smartphone and can't really release what we used to.
Considering that the Galaxy Nexus hasn't even been released yet, saying that DHD users have been left behind is totally ridiculous.

Remember assumptions are the mother of all F**K Ups
They have been trying. They have it booting but the touchscreen does not work so nothing can be done.
To be fair, its all different hardware niggles, the end of the day..you could have a dev release a rom...that has a hundred bugs and is generally ****. Gingerbread came out, which was good you could test it but really pissed you off in a way that there was no way to use it daily unless you fancied losing wifi or no bluetooth.
Patience is the key.Why are there so many threads about this **** lol its every time, i do also want to post numerous threads regarding this but patience. How has the hd been left behind anyway, we have had every release so far besides ice cream
i'm almost sure DHD won't get ICS... technicaly DHD could get an 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 official OTA anytime but HTC waits until ICS will hit Sensations. Just about one month before that, DHD will get 2.3.5 as final official update...
It was the same with Hero last year... when htc rolled 2.1 on HERO just before the 2.2 launch on the newer devices. It's all marketing and I'm sure the carriers are the key players... especially the ones in US. They are making the rules and the 2 years product rollout cycle.
I'm also pretty sure that HTC "supports" the "rooting and custom roms development"... as some kind of justice for the HTC hard core consumers...
One way or another ICS will come to the dhd... If its not official it will be a port or cyanogen.
But atm i'm really happy with the 2.3.5 runny rom^^ Lets just be a little patient!

The Sensation is getting ICS so I'm very sure the DHD will get it.
If you don't think so have more faith in devs on xda.

"New devices,i.e,Released after May 2011 will receive the updates prior to the old phones like Desire HD"
What that means? no ICS TO DHD? ?
did not understadn fully that thing there please explain?
All I want, and so many other people, is a taste of ICS, Just a test drive, I'm not asking for daily use, and the expression "left out" is referring to the SDK roms coming out, not the official source code or official release of ICS.
Just want to see some progress to a flashable ICS port, and now I am seeing that over at the development forum so this is good.
This may a ridiculous question (sorry in advance) but would any port of ICS still have the SRS settings for the music player?

Once again... This is news for the International Version of Galaxy S. Our beloved Vibrant was left out way back in the Froyo Days. The International at least got GB source released and even official for all but the Vibrant.
So sorry if this is rude but, this is no news to us Vibrant owners.

GPS Fail
[ROM][07-JAN][4.0.3] ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) Passion v10.6 - Proof it can and does work just fine on Galaxy S hardware.
As far as leaving out Touch Whiz... I seriously doubt most would consider that a deal breaker . Leave it out if it won't fit. That reason is too lame to explain why official updates just stopped so early in this phone's life.
It is simple in my mind. Samsung screwed the pooch on 10,000,000 phones with the faulty GPS hardware they chose to stick into these phones. All roms, from the "official" garbage Samsung's put to the excellent roms from brilliant developers like the one above, can never seem to get the GPS in these phones working properly.
Samsung wants 10 million Galaxy S phones to just go away, so we'll stop asking them when they're finally going to fix the gps.
Samsung gave up on the Galaxy S long ago.
You know what, the devs here are crazy awesome. They've basically put a stable NON-TOUCHWIZ ICS on our devices (passion and a couple others but passion in particular) and I couldn't be more thankful as I am not well off and have to buy older devices to keep my android addiction fixed thanks devs for all that you do. Remember that GPS works* for ICS but with an asterisk! Once your phone goes to deep sleep, GPS won't work until you reboot your phone and use it immediately (before any deep sleep). This is a highly accepted observation.
Support for phones
It's official, we are no longer supported.
Not supporting Sammy but.... I've found this problem (little or no support) with anything that is electronic a common practice. These companies are pushed buy sellers and yes the consumer to come up with the next 'latest and greatest'.
Appliances, TV's, modems, routers, computers... you name it, after months of support Sammy and the like, move along and let the buyer find resources to upgrade.
and so a +1 to your following statement and DEVs'

I want to buy it and i 'm trying,i checked out the xda tread and i saw official CM10.1 which really cool but there's nothing else except
AOSP.I mean if you guys can make a some-what stable CM10.1....you guys could easily make more roms like Paranoid,PAC,MIUI would be awesome on 1080p display, and many other roms....more you make better, try out-of-box like firefox os...These things make news and make the device more popular, which brings in more support, donors etc...:good:
So dev who are try hard to fix cm bugs and are stuck build some other roms also ....don't mind the bugs that arise which can be fixed later
I would like to wish the team Best Of Luck! :victory:

The cm10.1 rom was only released yesterday.:good:
With working and stable CM10.1 and AOSP Roms it's easier to port other Roms that are based on either of them.
I'd much rather have those two up and running in a near perfect state before we get a bunch of people that bricked their phones because they jumped on an alpha of Paranoid Android and they have no clue how to restore them.

Yeah. CM kangs almost never appear until CM is mostly complete for a device, and we didn't release until yesterday.
This device has only had kernel source available for sometime around a month, and isn't exactly widely available. Good development takes time.
FYI, CM went from "developers received the device" to "95% working" in less than two weeks, with the first week of that being research and laying the groundwork for a port. Most of the actual coding was done over the past weekend. Of course, this was only possible due to devices that came before us, like the Xperia Z.
It's amazing how much easier Qualcomms are to work with than Exynos.
Good lord.
Okay, you have two approaches to encourage development chrissmartin.
1) Knock yourself out and build a ROM of your own
2) Donate money to an existing developer who's working on a ROM / kernel... whatever you think is of value to you.
I don't know if you've done either, but short of those two options, please don't be 'that guy'. It's a new device in many respects, as Entropy pointed out. You want a ton of ROM's ASAP...go hop on the Sammy bandwagon.

Not gonna get that on Exynos BTW.... All of the Exynos4 CM maintainers are barely touching their devices, and so far, not a single person with maintainer experience has expressed interest in the Exynos5-based GS4. (As to Qualcomm-based GS4s - Some CM people are getting them, but myself and the other ex-Teamhacksung guys are going elsewhere.)
Edit: Obviously, other people can pick up the ball and take a crack at the Exynos5 GS4, but so far, I have not encountered anyone with an interest. All of the people with AOSP-on-Exynos experience I've talked to are done with the platform, and expect Exynos5 "Octa" to be even worse than the Exynos4 was. There's always the possibility we'll get a pleasant surprise from Samsung, but I have very little hope given that they completely failed to deliver on their promises made at the Big Android BBQ.
