Installing a new ROM...

I know there is a thread for "noobs" on how to install, but I still dont understand it...lol. I guess I'm too noobish when it comes to this kind of stuff, but can someone explain it a little better, or point me to a easier explained way of doing it?
Also, I tried to DL the "anistasia" icon set via the .cab file from my phone and it wouldnt install because of some license conflict, is there something I did wrong? or something that I didnt do before DL'ing the .cab file?
Sorry for the noob questions, but since I've gotten this phone I have been wanting to change things, unlike other phones I've had. So I'm kinda new to this.

I dont think it can be explained any easier than that noob thread... Its as plain and simple as it gets... The only thing it doesnt have is a troubleshooting section, but there are plenty of troubleshooting posts throughout the thread...
My advice would be to learn what the "weird" words mean first (google, wikipedia, etc.) and then try reading it again..

no, not even trial and error... that tutorial is pretty ironclad... it works perfectly as long as you pay attn to whats written...

[Q] Resign App Inventor APKs

Is there a way to resign the APKs generated by Googles App Inventor? (if you change, say the icon)

Couldn't you just use the testsign.jar?

No. Helping would be saying "You do this "insert explanation". Just posting that is trolling. He might as well have posted "oil platform, platypus, beetle" it tells me nothing, and I have no idea what it is and searching for it is no help at all. As always if people don't want to help that's fine but they should shut up then.

That thread is about making a theme, I don't want to make a theme. I want to sign an apk (actually I want to change an ICON but someone says you have to sign the apk whatever that means).
(Also note first line: "you will need a working knowledge of android, adb,how to resign apk's" - I don't have that, I don't have that, I don't know how to do that!)
Anyway, unsubbing this thread.

Perhaps the problem was using "sign" in the subject.
I shall make a new post with a more newbish title.

You want to do something, but don't want to get knowledge on how to do that, because this is too much for you. Not everything could be explained in two words.

If it means reading hundreds of threads with hundreds of irrelevant and offtopic messages, yes then it is too much for me. If it meant reading a concise page with only relevant information, perhaps it wouldn't be too much.
And whilst two words are enough for nothing, everything can be reduced to a relatively short core meaning.

Ok, I think easiest way is to:
unzip apk file
find and replace an icon
remove META-INF dir
zip everything back and name it as *.apk
sign it: you could search for testsign tool or look here: http://d.android.com/guide/publishing/app-signing.html . Most important for you are "Obtain a suitable private key" and "Sign your application with your private key".

PEOPLE like you really piss me off on forums...you dont bother looking up information like you should, your very disrespectful, and from what ive seen your an all around! Sorry for my language MODS but someone has to say it. You should learn your spot and if you wanna learn how to resign then look as there are plenty of threads. You just want someone to give you everything and do it the easy way. Sometimes in order to do things you must do your homework which apparently you cant do.
For the way you acted to the other guy i would suggest that NO ONE help this guy and let him learn how to do it by himself Since he pretty much just said he isnt gunna look through threads he wants it handed to him(look at the post above)!

Sufficient responses have been provided to an improperly titled thread.
XDA is about knowledge and experiences whilst using a particular device, application, or custom (tweak) work. As such, you will encounter numerous posts in threads that may provide less relevance than others within the same thread - it is your responsibility to "filter" past such posts ... this is no different than any other Forum you may frequent.
Additionally, there is an option in your profile to view up to 50 posts/screen page ... this greatly helps filter more content at once.

Ok so after i have seen many people asking about doing things like porting and how to add power menu options and lockscreens( includes me ), i wanted to ask you guys if you can start sharing things like adding power menu options and adding lockscreens here..how to edit settings.apk to show lockscreens option..how to edit mod version when is written in the apk itself.. things like that..im not asking for something wrong right ????
So basicly this is like a guide just like the one jellette posted sometime before here in general, lets make an all in one guide so people dont be all over the place asking posts twice ...well i think i will benefit about this too since i have entered the dev world and its hard lol...no sleepeng well, not eating well, thats me i dont know about you...so what you guys think.. ?

The problem, Bosina, is that people are always asking for guides that already exist here on the site. A search of xda will show you how to add am / pm toggle, lockscreens, power options, porting apps etc..

Hmm i see brother.... but i have seen some settings apk i have tried for the lockscreens that have the mod version there and i havent found out how to change it.. there are things that can be shared here..

Let me also add that sending a dev a request and only giving two options: tell me how or write a guide is not the way to request help. There is a 3rd and 4th option: walk me through it when you get the time (like I have done a lot) or don't help if you don't have the free time right now.
A dev works hard to pump out the best roms. They do not always have the time to walk away from their own project to fix someone elses.
I recently walked a "dev" through a port 100% from start to finish. That earned me a little line of thanks at the bottom of his OP and earned him a big arse line at the top of his OP stating that HE worked real hard to get the port bug free.... This ruins it for others, like yourself, when you ask for help.

I usually have no trouble teaching someone or sharing any knowledge I (might) have, but when people message me and want things but have no idea how or why something is, it's annoying.
I know that's a little vague, so let me make it clearer: if you are going to PM someone and ask them how to do something you damn well better make sure of the following
1) you have Google searched the issue for at least 9999 hours
---- (tip: try using "site:xda-developers.com" in google)
2) you have tried doing this yourself
3) you at least have some idea of how whatever you're asking about works
4) you aren't asking said person TO do it, but rather HOW
And Bosina (and everyone else), I know guides are useful and all... but anyone can follow a guide. You need to learn HOW this stuff works

ohh i see , thanks for that since i did that and i had no idea on what i was doing ..remember ? now that im a little into this, i know how hard you guys work for this..bro i go bed at 3 almost everyday just tryinbg to fix some frames in framwork ..damm i feel you jellette...sorry for those times i did that error and dammmmmmm, that he had to work hard to get port free ?? hmmm i wouldnt do that really...believe me..i always thank you for all you have done for the comunity and for me...

We are actually pretty lucky here in the Vibrant section, have you ever looked for a how to or source files in one of the other sections. The amount of sharing that goes on here is far greater than anywhere else on xda.

I was being sarcastic bosina. I would love to learn this stuff but theres no way I would come out and start asking people how to do it. Id learn 100% of everything from just research and reading myself. Take in part, my JIGs, I figured out how to make them through research and development and never asked anyone how to do it, and I only got ideas from KidDynamite on the fancy lanyards I use because I wanted a nice adjustable lanyard system, but had no clue what to use, and he being ex military suggested I use 550 Paracord and a cord lock... Techie type people like high quality full of fancy specs stuff like military grade 550 cord.

Ive noticed that same thing jellete, only the i9000 forum imo seems to match our prowess in that dept. For the US tho the Vibrant forums is #1 for sure.

[Q] Continuum 2.2 Update for Beginners?

I'm a noob when it comes to smartphones and android. My wife got this Continuum for free for me, and well I wish I would of known about it. I got this Friday and not knowing anything about Android, I thought I got a good deal, but soon realized after reading several forums up here there isn't going to be an official 2.2 release, but thanks to the kind folks here, there is a leaked version.
To my question, and I guess it's just me not being use to it, and trying to learn everything in a day, it's just not sticking. I would definitely want to upgrade to 2.2, but I'm lost. I understand the concept of it all, but like I said I'm lost. I haven't tried it yet, but do you have to root your phone first? Before you even attempt the update. I understand the concept of rooting a phone it basically gives you complete control over it, but is their a beginners guide?I guess I'm just lost although the leak was posted with great instructions it seems like a foreign language to a noob like me. Any help would be appreciated.

Check out www.addictivetips.com/mobile and search rooting continuum. For that matter, read a lot from that site. It helped me a ton, and they put it in layman's terms

I got it running on my first try. It really isn't too hard once you grasp it. Thanks for all the help offered. And especially a big thanks to the people who brought 2.2 to the Continuum. At least it's not so dead after all. My Rom from pastorbennett runs perfect. I do have another question...would it be safe to download the My Verizon app. Even though it's a little aggravating, I do like being able to keep up with my usage, but if it's not advised I'll stay away from it.

I've been reading through a lot of the threads for loading Froyo onto my continuum, but am running into an issue that I have not been able to get past (or maybe I am being impatient).
I have the phone in debugging mode (only way Odin seems to pick it up)
I click the PDA button
Load the tar file
Click start
The process seems to begin, but gets hung up on SetupConnection and does not proceed from there.
Is there something I am missing? Not doing right?
This is my first Android phone and am still learning the terminology and so on. Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT - Figured out how to put the phone in download mode, everything moved right along. /facepalm

I'm glad you posted your fix. That might help others that read the thread. I guess it's a pet peeve of mine when I see a post that says, "Nevermind, I figured it out." And doesn't explain what they figured out, and how they did it... I'm just sayin'... Ya know!

Agreed, Moon Shadow.I've done several dozen searches, and clicked on promising links to someone who is having the same issue. The only resolution I see is "I got it". Which makes the search useless.

[Q] Stock Samsung Keyboard on Blu Kuban

Hey guys, I was wondering if it's possible to flash the stock Samsung keyboard back onto the phone when using the Blu Kuban rom. I know the SamsungIME.apk is a system app and must be pushed into the system folder along with the odex file I believe. I've tried with both ES and Root Explorer, after copying it to another system folder, changed the permissions, and then copied it to the app folder. However nothing seems to work in allowing me to put it back. Am I missing something? I've even deleted the keyboard that Ruj gives with the rom and no joy.
It wouldn't be such a huge issue if the keyboard that was included didn't censor my words. I tend to have a filthy vocabulary and when swiping it won't allow me to use profanity. Outside of that, I prefer the numbers row on top of the keyboard as well. I know the rom is odexed and even pulled the stock apk out of a stock odexed rom to be sure, and then several other apks I've found around online. Sorry my first post after lurking for so long is really... well long, but I've usually been able to solve everything by thorough searching, but this one is beating me.

Try adding the libjni_latinime.so lib back to the /system/lib folder.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately that still had no effect. Tried with and without your keyboard still installed.
Alittle off topic, but since I can't yet post under your rom thread, I'd like to thank you now for all the development you've been doing. You were the sole reason I was able to bear with my E4GT up until the other day when my upgrade came into effect so I could get this S4, and ultimately swayed my choice in going with it. I dunno why the keyboards giving me such issues though.
Also, Rujelus, it might be alittle forward of me, but what I'd actually really love would be a themed version of that original Samsung keyboard. If that's out of line or out of the question I apologize, I'm not sure how much demand there really is for that. Honestly my favorite feature on it is the full keyboard with numbers without having to hit the symbol key. But, I'd mostly content with just being able to install the original again lol.

Don't worry. I am going to theme a bunch of stuff that was removed from the ROM. It will all be available through the updater. I will try and get to the keyboard soon. :thumbup:

Thanks, I really appreciate it! When I first saw the updater on my E4GT I thought it was the coolest thing on a rom ever haha.
