Please tell me if your phone has this??? - Nexus One General

Hi guys,
I am having screen protector drama: I am trying to remove a non silicon screen protector (and I know its on there. good at that!) but I can't remove it.
I've tried scotch tape, duct tape, mach 3 razer blades...trying to lift up that corner.
I have to remove this thing because it is what I am suspecting is messing with my Proximity Sensor, and causing the screen to blank when making calls. Also, Z-DeviceTest reports my Proximity is 0.00000 cm , when the screen is just on normally.
*i might try the hex edit trick to turn off the sensor after this, if I fail. Although that would suck kind of, because then my head will press buttons during calls..AND, hex editing the appropriate file with androids hex edit, didn't help me find the string, the last time i tried.
That being said, I'm using a pin and a flash light, and want to know if i am pulling at something inherent to the phone or not.
On your Nexus one, is there a black rubbery ring around the screen, between the edge of the screen and the grey. Is it like 1mm thick? (everytime I pin and pull up, i tear this string like rubber grommet, and i'm wondering if its the screen protector excess that oversits the screen, or something the nexus one has around its blank screen?
Please help.
ThankS!

I do see a thin black ring between the screen and the metal.
If you're really sure there's a screen protector on there, maybe try a tiny dot of superglue on some tape to increase the sticking power?

Aww, thank you sir.
I guess I've been tearing up my phone then.
I will try the super glue, but what should I stick onto it? <string?>

ive never had a screen protector that stuck on are you sure there is even one on there? those things peel right off

Hrmmm....
Well its a Clarivue... these things look like glass.....

Well, I used the solution described here, with the hex editing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985223
Altering sensors.mahimahi.so solved the phone screen going blank issue, but auto rotate stopped working.
Replaced the file with original, rebooted, and for some reason, still couldnt auto rotate.
Now doing a Nandroid restore. Hoping it auto rotates again.
This screen off issue during call seems like a GB issue. Restoring an earlier CM7 backup, and hoping to find an alternate dialing app...

Found a fix. somewhat
(The nandroid backup restored auto rotation incidentally)
You go into the dialer, and change preferences to disable Haptic feedback.
The screen still may go blank on dialing, but easily awakes now by either pressing the power button or trackball. No one button seems to do it consistently, but its one of those two consistently now.
Thanks for your help guys. Minor pin damage

Still no fix for the Proxmity Sensor GB/CM7 bug.
Any suggestions? I tried Screen Suite as recommended in another thread. No go.

Touch screen stopped working :-(((

Hi,
The touch screen part of my universal has ground to halt to the point that it won't work.
There doesn't appear to be any cracking and I don't recall dropping it or sitting on it.
I work a fair bit outside and can get quite a bit of dust and dirt in my pockets and am wondering if it could be due to dirt getting into the connect on the hinge.
Has any one else come across problems with the hinge?
I'm reasonably adept with a screwdriver - are there any things to watch out for when disassembling to check it over?
Hi..
If u can open with the Universal guide posted in the forum then try clean ing the connectors on the Right and Left of the Clamp Shell part with Iso Propyl Alcohol.
Before opeining you can try pressing mildly with yr fingers, at all the forur corners..it can start working..else do the above...
Hi,
OK, the screen seems to be working OK this morning, however I seem to be getting a sort of ghost effect where it appears as though the phone icon and the volume icons are getting pressed resulting in the volume controls and the phone/flight mode popup appearing on screen.
I guess it is all down to dirty connections.
Do you have a link to the thread about dismantling the hinge, I can't seem to find it.
Thanks.
re isopropal alchol
only use 99% alchol to clean contacts anything below that can cause corrosion on printed circut boards and contacts.
any progress yet.
mine stopped working today too.
but when i took off my screen protector, it worked for a while.. now its dead again.
I think the screen protectors may cause this problem, as I too had this problem with a screen protector; but when i took it off it would work and and off. I cleaned the screen up and after a few hours my screen was working again!
being in Australia I go to the beach allot. with my jasjar.
the sand gets stuck in the sides of the screen putting pressure on the screen and disabling any input. just a thought that it could be the same with u.
hope u sort it out, otherwise claim it on warrenty sooner than later.
The problem I have with the screen is that occasionally the touch screen side of things appears to stop working and also the the volume, wifi and phone dialogs keep on appearing as if I am pressing the relevant icons in the top bar.
I'm guessing some dirt has got into it somewhere or there is a loose connection, but am struggling to open up the screen's case to inspect it.

i took off my screen protector and it worked an hour...
got home, prepared to go to the T-mobile store.. then cleaned my screen ( without protector ) with a small cloth and it was working again.. so weird..
lets wait and see what happens ..
It's not really that weird: If some dust, or something equally small gets between the screen and the plastic frame, it can put enough pressure on the screen, and so the touch screen takes it as a constant (or intermitent) input, invalidating any other action on the rest of the screen.
I just received my Aquapac waterproof (and sand/dustproof) to use my Jasjar hapilly in the beach!
oh so annoying, my volume sliders keep popping up now..., as if some one keeps tapping, cause when not in Land scape mode when i open the "START" menu. it scrolls down, the same input/tap as wher the volume is in Landscape mode
There must be something wrong ... my screen still isnt working properly
one possible solution for touch screen not working
guys.... although I dont need to register onto this portal and it took me 15 minutes to register (fault of my own) but I got so much relieved with the solution that it deserved 15 minutes of my effort ;-) I hope it helps someone...just like it did help me....
I own a P835 Asus mobile and from past 2-3 days was having problems - start menu continuously appearing and my taps not getting recognized. Since yesterday my screen suddenly stopped responding to any taps or scrolls altogether.... buttons were working fine but not the screen..... i spoke to the facilities centre this morning and was about to take it to the shop but due to my laziness...didn;t go.....
Thanks guys.... what you mentioned above is very correct.... it was just a tiny molecule of dust that the screen was interpreting as my input and finally refusing all my taps..... I just cleaned the screen and the speaker side with the mere stylus n things started working.... thanks a lot.... more than laziness was this worry cause I just bought this piece a month before....
so people...before takin it to the shop....try this one too.....huhhh.....

Stupid magnet.

ok so, ive noticed recently that my TMO MDA, takes a while to load correctly on an incoming call, because it has to rotate the display, even tho i put it in normally.
turns out...
my case has magnets at the top, and no matter how i put the fone in, it will pick up that magnet, and rotate itself, then rotate back. WHY?????????
i was thinking that i could just like basically find the component ( if ur looking at the back, its toward the bottom left, behind the stylus holder) and remove it.
but maybe theres a better way?
any thoughts?
wouldn't it be easier to take the magnets out of the case? replace them with velcro or something? I certainly wouldn't alter my phone so it works with the case.
That's because the sensor is a reed switch. When the keyboard slides out, a magnet on the keyboard moves close enough to the switch in the other half of the phone to activate it.
Removing the switch (even if you found it - they can be really tiny) would result in phone screen not rotating with keyboard slided out, and you probably wouldn't want it, would you? I'd say to modify the case with velcro or some diffrent locking mechanism, or get another case instead.
that would make sense
ima try to modify my case then. thanks for the immediate response!

[Q] Broken touch screen, NO warranty.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me. My touch screen broke today and I received a text message and have 3 numbers which I need which were not synced before the damage which I now cannot get access too. The phone boots fine but the only buttons that work are the volume, power and reset.
This phone cannot be sent back to the manufacturer as the break was entirely my own fault.
When you plug the phone into any computer it defaults to the "disk drive" option so can only access sd card data.
I hope there is some way I can get the important data off it?
Thanks!
Fixed for long enough anyway!
I assume that no one has any idea about this one. I have managed a quick fix and I hope it can help others.
Essentially my screen looked like it had a REALLY small amount of liquid between the top peice of plastic (the bit that you actually touch) and what I would assume is the digitizer. After a few days the whole screen looked a little shiny and the touch screen and soft keys did not work.
The way i fixed this was to get a thin pen knife and slide it around the edge of the screen, between the two pieces of plastic along one side of the screen.
After this the screen worked again just as it did before.
I suspect that there was already a small hole/gap allowing condensation to build up between the screen and the digitizer.
I hope this helps someone.

Ghost screen touches

Just got myself a transformer today and it seemed great, however right after about 5 minutes the thing goes nuts like someone is swiping or touching the screen. Mostly just one spot on the left side and it will do it whether I'm holding it or it's sitting by itself. Can't seem to find anything posted about this wondering if thats because it's not common or I'm just not looking for the right stuff? Any help would be great, will likely return it tomorrow anyhow but if there's a fix would be nice.
Yeah, I got this as well while playing Angry Birds (F'd up my scores ! ). I don't know if it will work for you, but I just cleaned the screen really well with a cotton ball and alcohol, dried it, then used a microfiber cloth to clean it up (the ones that come with glasses, screen protectors). It worked for me, i think there was some gunk on the screen and was registering as a touch..
Try a factory reset and if it doesn't work take it back for a new one.
Thanks I can't see it being something on screen but will give it a wipe done here in a minute. Also tried the factory reset seemed to help but still getting in same frequency just not as badly. will see if the cleaning doesn't work I'll take it back and replace it.
This is the biggest annoyance that I have as of recent.
I have particularly oily fingerprints which causes smudges constantly.
I love the sensitivity of the TF, but if there is excessive smudging, the residue will register as a screen input - Wish the sensitivity could be adjusted.
Weird things happen when I need to clean the screen... I.E. I will be using a browser and use a single touch to scroll down, but it will zoom in/out instead; the long press menu will show up in a random spot persistently; -or- the screen will be completely unresponsive.
When this happens - I turn of the screen, clean it, turn the screen back on, and I'm good to go (note: sometimes I cannot even see any smudges where I am having issues).
This happens to me FREQUENTLY when i use the tab outside during humid days. I am thinking a screen protector may help, but still havent gotten one to try it out.
I had this same problem before the touch screen completely stopped responding on me.
For mine it only happened after waking it up from sleep mode though. When I turned Timeout to Never the ghost touching stopped.
Well tried as suggested the cleaning of the screen and all that but it still did it so took it back to the store got lucky and they still had one left, and exchanged it. New one hasn't had any issues at all. Thanks all.
I just took mine out of the box for fun (it was packed up for rma) and when i turned it on the touch screen worked. The ghost touching stopped to. But i still have a strip from top to bottom on the right side of the screen that registers two touches . So ill probably still send it in for a replacement.

Please help! How can I keep screen on during call?

So I broke the screen. replaced it and it worked fine. However i noticed the adhesive wasnt holding it tight enough. so after a few days I pulled the glass up as munch as I could and used some superglue on the top and then clamped down to hold in place. Now no more light is coming through but.. When I make a call as soon as a i press dial the screen turns back regardless of my distance to prox sensor. I'm assuming I got glue on it or broke it.
Eventually I will replace LCD but in the meantime is there any way to simply have the screen stay on during callsly ap?
I tried a few apps which did nothing. I looked for settings but nothing jumped out at me. I swear I have done this before on either an iphone or a much older android device.
Any suggestions would be great appreciated. Right now by using switches under accessibility im able to hang up at last but I cant turn on speaker and not sure how to set that up. So if there isnt a way to keep the display on any suggestions on how to set up so I can hang up and turn on speaker phone in the most effiecient way?
Its gotta be built in the system to keep the display on during calls but maybe not.
Again thanks!

There used to be an Xposed module to disable the proximity sensor on some SoC... But it is VERY SoC dependent from what I understand... And it may not be supported anymore...
Your other alternative would be to disable the proximity sensor in the kernel... I know it CAN be done... But I have no idea how
