Reselling WiMAX/promises of 4G - EVO 4G General

For the past two weeks, a startup company called OpenRange.net has been spamming my snail mailbox with postcards advertising their wireless service. It turns out that OpenRange is reselling Clear 4G WiMAX.
My home is not yet served by the Clear WiMAX network, though OpenRange claim sthat WiMAX will be in my area shortly.
Do they know something, or are they just flapping at the mouth in hopes of scoring a customer?
Is there some sort of listing or other informational posting that says when Clear will be adding WiMAX to existing towers?

Pennsylvania – Harrisburg, Lancaster, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Reading, York;
Straight from the Sprint page. It's been in Harrisburg since sometime in 2010 at least.

Map on Sprint's site or Harrisburg, PA
Apparently Clearwire made an app too

OK maybe I should have been more specific. My general area already has WiMAX coverage, but the coverage limit is shown on the map as about a mile south of my home.
I live in Lititz, a suburb in northern Lancaster County. On the 2nd floor of my house in a very specific location, I can actually pick up the WiMAX signal from towers located south of me. I've edited my WiMAX settings to be lenient with SNR for connections and such in order to obtain that very, very weak signal (-95 dBm if I'm lucky).
That said, OpenRange has been soliciting my business now for two weeks, claiming that 4G is coming to my area. Either this is one stupid company stupidly spending money on sending me and my neighbors advertisements when they know we can't get a usable WiMAX signal in our neighborhood, or they know when Clear is adding WiMAX to my local tower.

I actually received a promotional email from sprint. In the email they told me that 4G was now in my town of Bethpage, Ny. I flash a 4g rom and nothing! I called sprint and told them about the email from them that I got saying it was available. The rep on the phone was very nice. He told me very soon. I asked if there was a ETA, and he just kept repeating VERY soon (there was alot of emphysis on VERY LoL). Later on I found out to check on clear.com Sure enough it comes up in my town, but when I put in my address nada!

Im from Harrisburg as well and I have 4G in my house.

I don't see anything in Lititz, but that may change later in the year. Currently though they are spamming you.

Dear T-Mobile,
Come visit us in south florida, the oil hasn't hit the coast yet, it's till sunny and beautiful. The only thing missing if your delicious speed. We are still struggling with measly .5mbps/.3mbps speed.
Here's my AT&T Nexus One, same speeds, ran the test 4 times in a row. Los Angeles, CA server.

Nice! -- Yeah... It'll be nice to see what sort of "real world" scenarios of devices that have 21 Mbps HSPA+ compatible radios in them. The 7.2 Mbps max on the Nexus One on the TMO version really hampers it from taking full advantage.

Glad it finally came to Seattle! Too bad I'm about 20 miles south of Seattle and it doesn't reach my area.
Sorry, but Nexus One, doesn't support HSPA+.
Here's Portland Oregon. Decent ... good speeds just need a better signal
Sorry, but Nexus One doesn't support HSPA+! (http://www.google.com/phone/static/en_US-nexusone_tech_specs.html)
Nexus One is "just" HSPA=HSDPA+HSUPA (7.2Mbps & 2Mbps).
HSPA gives up to 14.4Mbps DL and 5.7Mbps UL.
With HSPA+ you can reach up to 56Mbps (with MIMO and 64QAM).
AT&T might be upgrading their IP backhaul and backbone...
I've reached 4.7Mbps and 1.3Mbps in Movistar Chile.

Not sure this will be the same as OKC but I saw in the sprint forums OKC was scheduled first of 2011, but Best Buy says it probably be this fall and in some places in Oklahoma 4g is being tested... i would take that with a grain of salt though.
I've heard that they are setting up the infrastructure and testing it. I'd imagine it would be sometime 2011. Again, just hearsay though.
I used to work at the sprint call center in okc that has 4g tech support (i know y have 4g tech in a place that has no 4g) they told us okc will get it in the spring where the call center is on nw expressway and council there is a 4g tower next in but they won't turn it on

As far as Tulsa goes, I turned on 4g yesterday on my epic and was able to pick up a weak signal around 7st and memorial. I guess Sprint is in the testing phase right now
I connected at 71st and Mingo. It took some scanning but I finally connected with 2 bars.
Do you think maybe the store at 71 across from the QT between Memorial and Mingo may have a small 4G tower to show it off, and you are picking that up? Or do you think they have actually started turning it on in Tulsa.
No, I called my buddy at that store and asked if 4g was officially here, he said no but it is in testing phase. I also asked of they have a 4g airave installed and he said that they did not. So welcome to beta wimax in tulsa.

Speed Test.
4G is soo FAIL
LOL about 1/8th of what I've gotten on Tmobile in the same areas on my Nexus One. But I'd still rather have Sprint because Tmobile bounces between Edge, 1G, 3G, and HSPA nonstop, without your phone ever moving. Nothing like waiting for HSPA to kick in while your waiting for a simple weather widget to refresh. I'll be curious to see what Sprint does when its finally rolled out here but I am not hopeful it will be anykind of useful. At least with Sprint I can turn the nonsense off and they are a little faster than Cricket.

Wow, I live just North (Delaware) and my Uncle is the head of the Communications (Cell phone contracts included) division for Metler-Toledo. I just shot an email off to him asking for some inside info on the rumor that 4G is coming from their building. I'll post back when I get a response from him. Not sure why he didn't tell me before now if they are, he knows I have the evo, he's played with the darned thing!
Sweet. My dad and stepmom stay at a campground in Galena during the summer and I drive down every other weekend. Guess I'll have to head over to Polaris and try it out. Probably won't get a signal at the campground.

Ok, he got back to me. The Metler-Toledo building definitely does have 4G coming from it. It is not hosted by them though. This was his email to me verbatim.
"Yes, but not us. On the roof, another company in the building has placed stuff."
So we know for a fact at least that the origin is said building!
lol what's the chanced of it reaching me SLIM AND NONE ! lol

What company is better tmobile, att ,sprint or veraizon

What company is better in date and had major coverage and 4g????
it depends.. where you live and who has a better coverage. They all have pros and cons... hard to cover in one tread.
I'd sum it up to
T-mobile, best customer service and good 4g but small service area.
Sprint, Terrible customer service, decent 4g, medium service area
Verizon, Fair customer service, Networks huge, not sure if 4g/LTE is out yet (I dont pay attention to them).
ATT, Meh customer service, they're very business oriented and not too good about actually listening to your problems but efficient enough, 4g is coming or may be out I know its sometime soon either way, Network is only bested by Verizon.
sprint has a nice 69.99 everything plan
Oh
I live south of california just wanna know wat company had the best speed on internet
Verizon has a Nazi stranglehold on where I live, so...
Heil Big Red.
Verizon for orange county for me atleast.

Sounds like it's nailed!
Even though regions of the country dramatically impact a carrier's strength (probably because of the local carrier the big ones acquired), in my mind z33dev33l has it nailed.
I have been VERY happy with T-Mobile (price, customer service, quality of connection in my area), but they need to widen their 4G (and even 3G) coverages without getting greedy and without relaxing on their terrific customer service.
Everybody I know with Sprint and most people I know with ATT complain about them, and Verizon is a royal pain if you are trying to call from inside an office building. Around my office, there are two distinct groups huddled outside: the smokers and the Verizon customers. OK, so the Verizon customers stay inside next to the windows during bad weather, but you know what I mean. My boss, a Verizon customer, makes me take my phone with us to lunch in the cafeteria because he can't make a reliable call, but I can.

Don't forget to add $10 extra for 4g and now for what they call premium 3g!
I like T-Mobile, just wish they would grow the network faster.
At&t for now!!!
i think - currently at&t is the best choose
Kotake
T-Mobile for customer service & price, coverage limited if you're in a rural area
Around where I live (Dallas, TX), T-Mobile rocks all the other providers when it comes to 3G speeds. I get constant full bars (no matter where I am), and I've done speed tests with my 2 of my friends who conveniently have Verizon, and AT&T.
Verizon Speedtest - 1.33 down, .28 up on an iPhone.
AT&T Speedtest - 1.26 down, .55 up on an iPhone.
T-Mobile Speedtest - 4.5 down, 2.2 up on a Samsung Vibrant.
Now I don't know if it's hardware related or something with Android owning iOS, but T-Mobile had really improved speedtests.
Best part is, T-Mobile doesn't charge roaming, so I can go where-ever the **** I want, and not get charged for calling, using data, or anything.
Tmo is the most open source, supportive of modding efforts and has their own github than any of them. and they go with vanilla android and defer to google rather than try to meddle with the software (more than the other three)
Well which ever carrier you choose don't choose At&t. One of their towers that provides data coverage to the little Italy section of the Bronx has been broken since 2/1/11 and despite numerous calls from my self and undoubtedly many others they have yet to fix it.
I've had sprint in the past but they don't work at my office either so i'll be giving Tmobile a try.
I agree at&t full digital.. talk and net at the same time... spend time in Socal and Nocal
I've had AT&T and Verizon and my boss has had Sprint and Verizon, we both agree that you get the best bang with Verizon. Of course, it tends to be more expensive.

you put in your location, and it shows you which company is best for your area, just play around on the website a little bit and look at places you travel the most. It can show 2G, 3G, and 4G coverage (if your provider has 4G).

AT&T buys Tmobile

AT&T buys t mobile, and promises LTE roll out to 95% percent of Americans. The purchase will relieve stress on AT&T's towers, and allow faster data speeds, and better voice quality.

interesting but i kinda saw it coming, only this would make sense
it was either sprint or ATT ... and sprint doesnt like GSM
i wonder how is that going to improve reception on our atrix since we are on 850 / 1900 / 2100 band .....
or maybe by the time the merger is done i'll buy a new cellphone already
All hail the ATT tyrant!
BOOOOOOO I say. I hate AT&T and all their IPhone loving zombie customers. My 12 year old T-Mobile account (formally voicestream before the name change) will be cancelled the hour the acquisition goes through. AT&T will not see one red cent of my money.
I dont mind it... Tmobile is spottiest of all carriers around here, so should only make both of them better...
However, how will it work w/ the 3G/4G? They are different bands, hence why jailbroken and unlocked iphones never had access to Tmo's 3G, just edge. Does our phone support their bands as well?

It doesn't work that way. They will be using T-Mo's backhaul only towards LTE deployment and maybe in support of the H+. So any current phones will not be affected by this in any way, meaning you will not be able to pick up a T-Mo Nexus S and use it on AT&T 3g, nor will you be able to use an Atrix on T-Mo "4G".
I live in eastern PA. My wife uses Tmobile and I have ATT. We both use the Captivate (hers is unlocked). In the year or so we have been with each carrier I have dropped about 2 calls to her 20-30. Since she has been with the captivate it has been a little better because of the better phone/modem but Tmobile has been spotty for a loooong time with little improvement over the years. This should work out well for both ATT and Tmobile customers. Tmobile customers may have to pay ATT/Verizon like prices sooner or later but the trade-off for the way better coverage should be worth it. Sprint & Verizon to merge next? Sprint is clearly the weakest of the bunch now by a longshot.
