backup Question - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have about 5 different email account in my MyTouch 4g not gmail account but personal and business account.
is there a way to backup these setting for my email account or do i allways have to manualy put the account back in after Flashing a New Rom?
Please let me know

I do not know of a way to backup account settings like that. It's possible there is an app that can do that so it's worth searching the Market, but I think you'll end up having to re-enter them manually.

Titanium back up should be able to back them up. You can try and test it. Just install tb and back up email. Delete one account and restore through tb and see if it restores the deleted email account.

I tried this once through TB long ago, and I believe it only backed up all messages from my accounts, not the log-in settings. I could be wrong though.

Delete google account

I've searched and searched and nothing has worked. I can't wipe.
I don't know how u mean, but if you'd like to unbind your phone from your account you have to go to Settings->Acc & sync->[Choose your account]->Remove. The other thing is to completely delete your account, to do this go to https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount, click Edit and select Close account and delete all services and info associated with it, comfirm it and you deleted your account

i looked in my google voice account and theres no such options as to the first method that you suggested....
Could you be a little more specific on what you are trying to do? Do you not want to have any google account on your phone? Are you wanting to switch to a different google account? Are you trying to delete your gmail account completely?
i know what you are trying to do. You are trying to remove the google account you associated your phone with right? Well, unfortunately you cannot do that. You would need to reflash the ROM to be able to do so.
Refpashing is a bit brutal. A hard reset should be enough.

Or you goto manage applications and reset defaults for all google apps...

Woops, i somehow thought this was about google voice

You could also grab Android ID changer and change your ID (Google account associated with your current ROM). Then, you could switch back and forth. *shrugs*...
Factory Reset is the safest way. Changing ID can invalidate all your apps and bugger it up, plus you can't use ID changer if your phone is NANDLOCKED.
I spent a lot of research on this, there is just too much data that needs to be changed to simply switch your primary Google authentication account. Make your backups then Factory Reset, just as the Sync settings suggests.

But its faster just to reset the accounts and not have to redownload all the apps, resync facebook and whatever else is going on...
Uhuh... and how exactly does one get around the message saying you cannot delete the default Google account? Once you sign in to Google on firstboot for market, the phone is locked to that Market account.
As for redownloading all your apps, I take it you've never used Titanium Backup or MyBackup Pro. Note that if you buy something on Market, you cannot transfer that purchase to another Gmail account.

You're not deleting the account..you're just clearing data and defaults for the app..I've used TB and did forget to note that in my post..so thanks..as for MyBackup Pro I haven't..if you're rooted can't you still move purchased apks to the sdcard?

You mean going to "Accounts and Sync" in TB > Wipe Data? I did that, but it resulted in FC's whenever trying to go back to add a new account. The Google Account ID assigned to the phone is a lot more tied-in than simple appdata, I even did a full find/replace on com.android.* databases and the best I got was annoying "Authentication failed" errors on startup, and Market, Gtalk, etc. All had FC's.
The .android_secure folder on SD cannot be hotswapped between phones, they need to be re-registered in the package registry... which TB handles mostly perfectly. Some paid apps do fail authentication checks after a TB restore though due to custom fingerprinting it seems, and have to be "revalidated" via Market install. One example that comes to mind is Flow (Facebook client) and Executive Assistant+.

How old is that? I don't have "Gmail" nor "Google Apps" installed. The manual database method mentioned is what I did, resulting in corruption (the account was still there but I got 'Authentication Failed' from Market on startup). Risky. But good luck....

[Q] Contacts don't sync by default?

I've been on Windows Mobile for years, but my wife has been using the Aria the last few months. I just updated her phone to the latest Stock ROM (trying to keep things simple), and I'm kind of shocked that after re-syncing it with her Gmail account, none of her contact synced! I have very little Android experience, but I kind of figured that, synced all this time to a Gmail account, her phone would have saved all of her contacts there, and not just on the device's internal memory.
Before installing the ROM, I backed up call logs and some apps with Astro, but I didn't think I'd need the Contacts or her email accounts, stuff like that. Did I just wipe her address book, or are they supposed to be saved somewhere out there?
You sure they were saved to Google's servers? Syncing only saves your contacts if they are linked to your GMail account. They won't save if you saved them to Phone or SIM (although they will still be saved on the SIM, unless that was wiped too).

At this point, I'm sure they weren't saved to Google's servers. I'm so surprised that Google, who automatically adds people to your Gmail contact list if you email them a few times, and tightly integrates the phone with a Gmail account, wouldn't automatically back up all phone contacts without specifically asking you to your Gmail account. My Windows Mobile phone contacts don't ask me if I want to save them to Exchange; they just do.
Since when does Microsoft "just work"? And Google doesn't?

Did you check her Google account to see if the contacts are saved there? If they are then you should still be able to sync them. If they're not then unless you did a nandroud they're gone. If you did a nandroid them you can just nandroid her current setup and restore the old nandroid, sync her contacts, and then reflash back to the current setup.

They're definitely not in her Google Account. And I installed the latest Stock ROM, which I'm told cannot be rolled back, unless someone's cracked that yet.

Why is my DX reverting back to old gmail?

I just FINALLY installed GummyJar 2.5. Got all my apps and settings the way I wanted them. Then, the next day, my phone reboots. When it starts back up, it has the former owners gmail back on here instead of mine. I just don't understand! When installing GJ through CW, I did the clear data and cache. What gives?

Is his account still set to sync on your phone? Just check in settings>accounts and sync. If it is then simply remove it
I figured out what it was. When I was running Titanium Backup, it was restoring "accounts" which was backed up on the old Gmail account. I just restored apps only and Viola!

[Q] gmail account suspended

my gmail account has been disabled.
is there a way, aside from factory resetting, to remove my origional setup gmail account?
settings>accounts and sync>account you want to remove>remove
Settings> Accounts and sync
Remove your old Google account and add the new one.
I know it doesn't help you but I have to ask,
How did you manage to get your gmail account suspended?

Midget porn.
I have NO idea how or why it would happen. I have been reading that using file sharing has been known to cause this, I use Samba constantly if that counts.
I cannot delete the account through the settings menu as it was the account used to set up my phone, Its saying I have to factory reset...and I really dont want to do that.
No midget porn either...what gives!?
You have to have a second account on the phone before you can delete the original.
I have 3 accounts synced , and it still is saying that I have to factory reset to remove the account linked to the market (and everything else)
Do I really need to lose my paid market apps AND all my phone data?
I am running bonsai and I do have titanium backups of everything...but I factory reset...bonsai restores all data, and I assume that would include the accounts and sync app/data
You try contacting google? It might help
Send Google an angry letter.
Midget porn.....lol heh heh....classic
try this before removing the account
I believe the only way to remove the original account used to setup the phone is to do a factory reset. You would also lose access to any apps you've paid for with that account.

Backing up Email app accounts

Hi
What is the best way to keep a backup of email account settings? I feel most of us switch ROMs and every time adding same accounts is very painful.
Please suggest best way to backup email accounts .
If you use a 3rd party email application then with Titanium Backup you can backup the email app(s) and associated data, which will include your account settings.
Titanium is a doddle to use and one of the most useful apps I've got off the market.
If you're talking about your google account then you have to re-add that for every flash anyway, so don't worry about it.
I have tried TB backing up
User Apps + System Apps
System Apps
Email app
But none of them worked for me..
Can you please suggest what settings need to be backed up.
What app do you use for email?
I am using Email.apk provided by Samsung Galaxy S2.
In that case, I think that gets backed up with system apps, which may be a cause for concern as system apps are sometimes not compatible from one FW or ROM to another, so you can't restore them without screwing up your phone.
If this is a major deal to you and you don't want to have to recreate your account(s) if and when you flash your phone with something, then I'd recommend looking into some of the alternative email apps on the market. I can't personally suggest any from experience as I use the gmail app and have all my other email accounts polled from that, so I only have to enter 1 account on my phone and it gets everything for me (only good for pop3 accounts though - not exchange or imap).
I do know that K9 gets recommended by lots of people though. Maybe that's worth a look.
Edit: I just checked Titanium, and the email app is listed as an app there, so you can back it up, along with associated data. That should do the trick
I always backup my email with titanium backup. Works perfectly with 2.3.3 moving from rom to rom.
I did have issues after updating to 2.3.4 but since I'm sticking with the newest fw I just deleted the old backup and made a 2.3.4 backup. Works great you just need to start the email app twice.
