live wallpapers not working - myTouch 3G, Magic General

What Magic based phone does live wall papers work on? Every time i download one it just tells me my phone isn't supported and there are no settings related to live wall papers in GingerYoshi and stock Froyo (ota) and I can't think of why some Magic's would have this support but not others ...yet there are live wall paper postings in the themes section so it must work somewhere and somehow...
I have a Mytouch 1.2.

The same problem! Magic 32a, ginger yoshi 1.2, no live wallpapers in wallpapers menu and none of tested live wallpapers work.
Yoshi! Where are You!? SOS!

Stock Froyo never had live wallpapers to begin with.
As to why GingerYoshi decided to not include live wallpapers, I'd guess mostly for performance. Seems like most people consider live wallpapers to be a waste on an "old" phone.

our phones run to slow for live wall papers some do work but run kinda choppy

I've only been able to get a few LWP's to work... the Matrix one is so far the only one that won't lag my phone to death.

hey man!
I had live wallpapers on my magic with cm 6 and they mostly worked good enough! wifi, bt, a lot of apps kill the performance more quickly so it's not a reason.
the question is not whether live wallpapers work or not, kill performance or not... the question is why I don't have a choice with this rom?
yoshi, give me my wallpapers back or I go on hunger strike!

why it is not rapid in homescreen ?

before going on the nexus one, I had a hero htc and strut really faster than the nexus of the home, the lag does not the hero and the nexus with snapdragon yes
After rooting and installing a custom rom (tried both cyan & modaco desire), the lag disappeared. I believe a large portion is due to the extra memory freed up running these roms.
When google releases their next OTA with himem, and some other tweaks, it should (hopefully) be fixed for non-rooted users.
I have heard some folks using 2.1 on their Droid that it's a tad bit laggy as well.

I'm using cyan's rom and it's somewhat smoother than stock, yet not as smooth as my mother's Magic.
Surprising to say the least.
im using cyanogen but is not better smootly

Yeah, the magic is running 320x480 (vs 480x800), im assuming still on android 1.6. The processor speed difference should be able to make up for it, but it seems Android 2.1 is the main reason for the lag at the moment...perhaps a background process?
Also, do you have animated wallpaper enabled?
I'm currently on MoDaCo Desire a19, using SetCPU @ 998mhz, and using the Social Live Wallpaper, and the screen movement is smooth as silk. Prior, I was using a21, and had the same homescreen lag I had on the stock rom.
Using home++ is smooth
yes it is the resolution(480x800) that is poorly managed but why ?

Home++ beta 0.8.0.7.15 from their website allows live wallpaper.
Try switching to a different live wallpaper and see if you see any performance increase. Are you using the stock N1 live wps or one that is made by someone else?
no im using cyanogen 5.0.5.3 and sometimes desire rom alpha 21
I was always aware of it being not so smooth but when I finally compared it to an older HTC Magic I was disappointed... it's definitely smoother on the magic. I'm running CM btw, and I didn't notice any improvement in smoothness after flashing.
Yeah, that's very odd. After I flashed it, there's a night and day difference.
Have you tried removing all your widgets & shortcuts to see if it reduces the lag at all? Then add them one at a time to see if something's screwing with it?
Dunno why it would have that big of an impact, but to be honest, sometimes the dumb things fix more than one would think, hahaha.

Nope, only one of the stock wallpapers (the one with the red rock).
I have noticed that if you add shortcuts to several contacts, performance plummets. Could you check and see if the same happens to you?
With the stock ROM I get a lot of lag too. Home++ really helps, but i want live wallpaper and 3D launcher.

I added 20 contacts, and while there was a minor slowdown initially swiping to that page, it's not running that much slower overall.
I'm using TaskPanel, and kill everything but the HTC sense, mail, messaging, live wallpaper processes on phone start up. Then I don't touch the thing, and have nothing on it's autokill list (I let android deal with it). I found that if I don't do this, the FM Radio app along with a couple others autorun, and android never kills them, even if they are never used.
At this moment, after having the phone on for 22 hours, I have 179MB of free memory.
(Using the following on my home screen: Social Live Wallpaper, HTC Big clock w/ animated weather, TaskPanel 4x1 widget, last.fm widget, htc calendar, htc photo album, power control, htc friendstream, htc news, and the rest of the empty space is filled with program shortcuts.)
I don't think it have anything to do with the resolution. I think it have everything to do with the new launcher. Remember, when Droid came out it had the pull up launcher and 2.1 immediately came out it had a different launcher. I have a feeling it was rushed and not optimized. I could be wrong but i have a funny feeling the next release will probably be better.
For now I'm using Enom rom with the Manup hero like theme and goodies. I limited the launcher screens to 3 screens to improve it a little better to me (albeit 3 screens is more than all i need so I'm cool with it).

live wallpaper problem

soo is it normal for my mytouch 3g 1.2 to be closing the live wallpaper and reverting to a static wallpaper everytime i lock/unlock my screen? I'm running CyanogenMod-5.0.8-DS with the Community Hero Mix The only one that i have found to work from the market is "Live Wallpaper Bubble Ripple" by Luphrane. But it's not exactly my taste. I've tried Silhouette Live Wallpaper, Earth Live Wallpaper, Patterns, Tap Tap Bubble, and they all seem to close after the screen is locked.
is there a way to fix this?
any help is highly appreciated.
edit: The Maps live wallpaper perfectly too

This happened to me on 5.0.7, but it's works perfect for me on 5.0.8, although I've only tried the Mario Live Wallpaper on 5.0.8.

Live wallpapers do not run well on the Magic. The GPU doesn't support the necessary instructions, nor does it have enough ram. There's a patch you can apply to 507 (and it seems to be applied by default in 508) that lets you run live wallpapers in software mode, but it severely slows down everything and really rapes the battery.

The only difference is 50% more RAM, which imo still is not enough. The GPU will still struggle and still drain your battery faster.

I don't really mind the battery loss, but what I don't get is that live wallpapers worked perfectly fine on my G1 aside from lag, of course. I had an extended battery so it didn't bother me so much. So if it worked on the G1, shouldn't it work on the mytouch 1.2?

How to live with out Sense.. {Making a list and hoping for help}

I for one like Sense, well I am not running a Sense ROM now I do miss a few things. So I wanted to see what people dis like and like about it and well maybe help some of us out. You know, finding way to forget about Sense.
I am running Cyanogenmod 6.0.0 now.
Like:
1: Flash {Cant find a work around}
2: Widgets
a: Peep {There is twitter but I like how dark peep is}
b: Friend Stream
c: Calender {Cant find a replacement }
d: Contact {Contact Widget does a great job as a replacement }
3: The ringer getting low when you pick up the phone {Cant find a work around}
Other than that, I cant say I miss Sense all to much, to tell the truth I am really liking adw launcher.
But if you have anything that helps replace what Sense does give you should add a list and if you are just missing something you should ask here, maybe one of us will be able to help you out.

LauncherPro... faster, smoother than ADW and has "Sense" widgets. Right now I believe it's just contacts, he is releasing calender and others (if he hasn't already)

Just to add to your comment, he added bookmarks widgets as well
I like AOSP because it is much faster than Sense regardless of what you do to speed it up. I love the look of sense, but after buying a couple of apps and downloading others I can say that I do not miss Sense.
LauncherPro Plus-He is working on Sense like widgets. I now use this instead of Rosie.
Beautiful Widgets or Fancy Widgets- imitates Weather and clock from Sense. You'll have to find a fancy widget download online as they had a C&D order from HTC.
Extended Controls- Allows more options than the power control widget
CalWidget-Calander Widget on your home screen. I think you can change text and background color with this one.
I'm not a social networking freak so I don't care about those, but I know that they will get friendstream working on aosp. And you can still get all the other apps for aosp.
There is a setting somewhere to change the ringer volume on phone movement. I don't have CM6 flashed anymore, but I know its in the settings somehwere

Fyi nfinitefx45 just got jit working on a sense rom. I'm using it on my red dawn as I type. I'm getting between 4.4-4.8 on linpack and that's with all the extra crap I've got on my rom.
The days of saying aosp is faster is at an end. I've got no lag. Running smooth and extremely fast plus have sense and all the Widgets that come with it.
Sense will find a way onto froyo eventually and will be just as fast as aosp
It really does seem that AOSP can be just as great as Sense as far as cosmetics. So the only thing left is flash, is there any way to get flash working on ASOP 2.1 or the 2.2 we have now?
Thank you all for the great input!

What about quadrant?
Some will never give up on Sense. I used to hate AOSP. I didn't like the look and missed all the extra's found in Sense.Right now I keep switching between froyo and Sense. If only someone could get all the sense apps working with AOSP.
Flash will never come to the hero because it's not built for it. I love sense, but i've learned to get by in froyo. The main thing I miss is the nice widgets, but there are some nice replacements in the market. I use digiclock widget and the weather channel. For twitter, seesmic is better than anything and it is fast. Launcher pro will let you customize your bottom row just about any way you want and will let you have 7 home screens like sense. If you have your homescreen laid out just how you like it in sense, then it's not that hard to recreate it in AOSP, unless you use a lot of sense Widgets.

We've had Flash for quite a while now.
Sense just seems like a waste of memory to me. Everything can be duplicated with Market widgets.
I really wish I knew what people saw in it, I hate it with a passion.
The way I see it is, Sense UI does offer things that other phones dont have and HTC has stayed a head of the game a little by giving us all just a little bit extra (flash)
On top of that, how many themes are out there for AWR or Luncher Pro? Well Sense if at heart a big theme, Things are made to go to gather and its simple and dark.
But anyway, How do we get Flash with out Sense?

Hey pappa!
Have you tested the new sensebuild /w jit on quadrant? It is a better benchmark than linpack, if for no other reason than it tests more than floating point calculations.

Maybe you did not understand me? I like Sense and would love for a 2.2 Sense RON to come out. But at the same point I can get a lot of the same things done with out it.
And how about this, My Hero will build me a island and then transform in to a plain and fly me there...... If people ask how I will not say anything.
If you have flash and see people have asked why dont you share with us?

Installed 3.14 ROM
Installed Froyo
2 phones in one goodness
Installed a couple of Android Apps then time to set my WinMo back up with CHT and eye-candy goodness

Wife has a Desire so I know what Android is all about.
Admittedly cht brought many of the Android tricks to the party but maybe I need to try another ROM as I have been a little underwhelmed by the Desire Sense appearance on the HD2 (doesn't seem to take advantage of the screen real-estate so much)
Might try the Desire HD ROM...

I use MDJ's Desire HD ROM, tis pretty good.
If you're after something speedier, try one of the many RAM based ROMs out there, they're pretty slick!
As for eye candy, there's a **** load more options for Android.. almost too much choice! I still haven't decided on what widgets to settle on yet lol
From what I have read the Froyo Sense Revo 1.7 is very stable so was my choice for thr first foray into Android and to be fair it worked straight out of the box and I d/l apps etc.
My only real complaint is the clock is huge [takes up 1/3 of homescreen] and the widgets take up way too much room so that [for example] I can't put the caledar widget and the marketplace together on the home screen; the calendar only shows one appt as well (I will learn to fix this to show more no doubt esp once you nice people helps a brother out!)
As you say I have seen the blackstone super-fast ones as well. For the time being I can live with the boot speed [may well use another bootloader rather than JMZ v4] since it all works but I may experiement in future - exceller or the mkskip loader support multiple roms I think so that might help.
I was just mighty chuffed that my rom upgrade and the android install were so slick.
I am also enjoying the apparent better reception with this rom

Live wallpapers work on KANG non-official cm9

I know that live wallpapers that you get by installing this rom doesn't work but when I downloaded androidify they worked. After that, I downloaded some bubbles and they also worked! So, you can download every live wallpaper from play store and they will work!
One bad thing that stands in between Live Wallpapers and our dear HTC Tattoo is memory.
It really is bad, if you take one LWp that is CPU heavy, the phone is losing that responsiveness that it has with normal wallpaper, plus, you have longer battery life with normal wallpaper. But, however, thanks for notifying that they actually work on CM9, even though, CM9 is not yet optimized enough for daily ROM usage because of its bugs and FC's.
