Doesn't that also clean your settings in the market? I've read that someone had done this and the whole market just hung up.
Thanks!
Worked great for my EVO. I had deleted an app and when I went back into the market to install it, it kept saying install.
my solution is re-sign google talk .
I've been getting the "unsuccessful install" messages when I try to download a new program from the app store. I tried using appbrain and the "market" applications to download. I have a new streak on ATT purchased from Dell. It worked fine for two weeks. Now it will no longer install any apps.
I'm on 1.6. I am now into almost a week without being able to download new apps. I tried: Restoring the Streak to a week earlier when I thought the app market worked; I uninstalled apps I didn't use that I installed recently; I have over 1gb free in internal memory; I cleared the cache in the appbrain and market apps. I tried everything mentioned in other forums by people with the same problem.
Today I may enter Dell Hell and try to call tech support. Any other ideas? I really don't want to do a factory reset since it will wipe out all my programs. If it doesn't work then I will still not be able to download and have no new programs, although I guess at that point I could do another "restore" to get them back.
Anybody have any other ideas before I try the phone call?
I've tried a lot of the suggested solutions (clear cache, turn airplane mode on and off, unmount sd card, format sd card, rebooting many times, playing around with google talk...).
What worked for me in the end - uninstalling the market updates (NOT the updater) - from options > applications ... I've lost options like automatic updates and "update all" but at least i can now update *at* all and install apps.
I wonder when does Market get "upgraded" again...

I don't see where you do what you are talking about. There is no "options" under applications and there is no "options" option from the home screen either. I am confused as to where you get to this.
I figured out how to do it. Thanks, that did it, amazing!
glad it helped.
In the meantime my Market got upgraded back again and so far it seems working...
How do you know it got upgraded and and does it do it automatically?
Because the features like "update all" and comments on a separate tab are back again.
And yes, it does so automatically (as it is a core system appliacation, it does whatever it - or Google - wants).

Noob question..Does the phone need to be connected to mobile internet as well when installing an app?? because i tried it with zero credits in my phone..The message came up saying "app ready to be installed in device" but when I looked there was no app installed...
two way i always use:
1. install apps from market
2. turn on "unknown source" in setting -> applications. and download apk file to sd card, and tap it to install.

I updated my nook color firmware to 1.41 and then installed the latest CyanogenMod. The nook color boots but I keep getting the message "The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly." I have searched the internet and forums without success. I can not access the apps market.
Any help would be appreciated.

First I'd Fix Permissions on CWM. No help? Then try this:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications >
Then make sure you look under the all tab. The downloaded tab is the default for me.
It is called Google Services Framework and you clear the data for this one and cache for market.
Start Nook Color Tools.
Select the “All Settings” button.
Unplug your NOOKcolor from computer. (If Plugged in.)
Choose “Manage Applications” from the list.
Select the “All” tab.
Scroll down to “Market” and select it.
Tap “Force stop”.
Tap “Clear cache”.
Tap the Back button if you have SoftKeys running, else swipe right to left on the status bar at the bottom of the screen (from the clock to the book icon).
Scroll up to “Google Services Framework” and select it.
Tap “Clear data”.
Tap “OK”.
Tap “Force stop”.
Press the n button to return to your launcher.
Start Market.
At the “An error has occurred” message, tap “OK”.
Hold your power button to turn off your NOOK Color from the menu.
Turn your NOOK Color back on and give it a moment to find your WiFi connection.
Start Market again, and the problem should be resolved.

Installed it where? To boot from a SD card? If you installed it internally you didn't need to upgrade to 1.4.1 as it wipes it anyway. How did you install CM7? What version of CWR are you using? What version of CM7?
Still Not working
Skeeterpro and patruns,
I tried all your suggestions and still no luck.
I installed the following:
CyanogenMod-7-11162011-Nightly-encore
Android version 2.3.7
Build GWK74
I used an SD card and installed it internally. It does not run from the SD card. I used an installer program call ClockworkMod v3.0.2.8 to do the installations.
Thanks,
Jim

That is an old version of CWR. It does not perfomr a complete wipe. Use this one and make sure you wipe/format cache, data, system and Davlik: http://www.multiupload.com/N5C1846GH3
Thanks for all your help, I have it working now.

i have the same problem ...how can i fix this ????
I had this problem when I was using an old a-data card after I put a bunch of pictures on it. I tried resinstalling, etc, and nothing helped, even deleting the image files. I eventually installed CM7 to internal/emmc and never had the problem again. If that's not an option, you may want to try a new Sandisk card (if you're currently using something else).
Thanks for the help...it fixed my problem of "android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly" on my LG Optimus 2X when opening Gallery.

I was getting this same error message on my nook color.
Turns out I had forgotten to do a full wipe before the CM9 install. Coming from stock.
If you're an idiot like me then retry it, wiping first (like patruns said), especially if you're coming from stock, since...duh...
thanks patruns!

I hate to ressurect an old thread, but I'm having the same issue with my nook. I've installed CM 7.2.0 on my nook after having this problem. I assumed that it must be an issue with the SD card since nothing I did fixed the problem. Now that the CM is on the tablet proper, it's still popping up. I did everything in the step-by-step given earlier, to no avail.
I'm using TWRP as my booter rather than CWM.

I just ran into the "android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly" loop myself after downgrading from a CM11 nightly to CM10.2.1 (Simpson's Tapped Out wouldn't work on CM11 ) . Opening Google Play Store consistently caused it and closed the play store app before I could interact with it.
I managed to fix it by formatting my uSD card back to FAT32 (along with the various formats etc for a fresh install that didn't work on their own).
I suspect the root cause was formatting my uSD card to exFAT as part of the upgrade to CM11.
I have a new Nook Color running 1.4.2 and followed the instructions with CWM 3.2.0.1 and MN 5.02.19. Everything looks good except apps won't install. I see the Android market and have downloaded all apps from my Google account. I can see they are downloaded but when I try to install, nothing happens.
I've used NookColor Tools to force stop, clear data and clear cache in the Market app but still can't install.
Edit: I've reinstalled with the apps2sd version plus the stock kernel. Still no joy. Have spent an entire day getting nowhere. I see that NookColor Tool doesn't have any hidden white text on a white background. It's all white text on black background. Toggleing the tick box doesn't seem to do anything.
Can anyone please help me?
heh... toggling that select box breaks app installs for me. I fixed it by rerunning the sd-boot root again. After the root, just verify that the box is selected.
There's also the solution from old_fart
you try clearing the cache and data of both the Google Play Store app and the Download manager
1.Visit Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications
2.Tab over to "All"
3.Select the Google Play Store app, and then tap "Clear data" and "Clear cache;" then, select Download manager and tap "Clear data" and "Clear cache"
Good luck

Thanks Ron, I do remember the select box in NookColor Tool was already ticked after I ran the sd-boot root. I'll try once more.....Could the problem be that the Market isn't updating to Google Play Store? I'm stuck with the old Android Market. I can see my paid-for apps but it won't download them for installation. Can I force an update?
ps. old_fart's solution didn't work for me
Third time lucky....I tried the root again and this time I didn't toggle the NookColor Tool tick box. Market started it's upgrade to Play Store within seconds and Angry Birds installed first time. Thanks Ron
