Smoothness of android

When is android going to be smooth as wp7 and ios? Why isn't it as smooth now? Why? They said group then gingerbread and now what ever comes after it?

My sgs running android 2.2.1 and a tricked out kernel is smooth as butter, easily as smooth as my 4th Gen iPod touch.
If your screen looks jerky, then likely it is a classic case of JoOSoS....Jerk on Other Side of Screen.

Haha no its not? You think I'm the only one experienced a hot phone? You should check cm7 thread? Anyway I have friends with desire hd, Htc desire, nexus phones and i still feel Iphone is smoother? Is. Hardware acceleration activated? Look at xoom it lags when scrolling thru screens Ipad not why is that? I'm just wondering? And if sharpness is good on galaxy s why put sharpness fix on?

Easy fix. Sell your current phone, buy a wp7 one instead, switch forums then live happily ever after

You talking about Miui and CM7 and complaining about bugs. When it says all over the threads for both those roms that they have known issues. You got nothing better to do?

Non of thes OS'es is smooth as WINDOWS PHONE 7, not Android, Not IOS.
I have used HTC phones, Samsung, Motorola, difrent android phones, the smoothnes is nothing compering to WP7.
I like Android but to be honest, my next phone will definitiv be a WINDOWS PHONE 7, and the UI is, uuuuuuuuuuuuhu, so damn SEXY

Android is coded with java which isn't the best thing to make an OS with as its bloated. Also companies like microsoft and apple can properly code the hardware with the OS. Its easy for apple as they dont make many phones. It is also easy for Microsoft as they ask for minimum requirements in terms of processor. Its harder for android as there are so many phones with different speed and types of processors.

But in general i do agree that Android lags abit more,dont feel as smooth as WP7/iOS4.But to be honest,thats not why you buy an smartphone is it?

I'd agree and ask the question too.
I do have alot of apps and generally the phone isn't too bad with smoothness but if, e.g. newsrob is synchronising, things can get very slow and non-responsive and I'm using jvk.
Live wallpapers with multiple widgets can make scrolling jerky and sometimes with lag of seconds.

Trust me i am not even close to getting upset. I just pointed out this thread as a waste of time especially the man who started it.

what ur saying m8 is totally true , android is no match to wp7 nor to ios in smoothness!!
having said that, its totally justifiable, android experience is the closest it can be with pc. u can do almost anything on ur device, like in windows for pc (on a tiny 1 gh processor with limited ram) ---------> the price is the smoothness.
will i go for another os,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, never, cause i want my phone to do everything

i know what are you talking about. this is all that i miss in my galaxy s - the smoothness. i have also jvk, with sweet honey 3.0 over jvk and it just not as smooth as iOS or some rom i saw on htc desire. don't think i don't like my phone. it's great and i love working with it. but what i miss is the smoothness.
CM7 and MIUI are not official now and have known bugs and not for my daily use.
so.. maybe we need to wait more.

Anywho....to answer the dudes question.... Both iOS and Metro UI are hardware accelerated. There you go.

Yep, I think theres lag in every Android tablet I've played with. Googles min specs just aren't high enough for Honeycomb... Hopefully a bit more RAM and Quad Cores will fix it...

You know how you can install crappy software that runs at boot which will make even a core i7 with a good GPU and lots of RAM start lagging?
Yeah. Like that. Don't install lots of crap and expect the OS to handle it.

I've seen logs from users with 40+ boot services while trying to diagnose field issues with my apps.
The scary thing is I think it's more common than people who are careful about watching app behavior/installing minimal apps.
To make it worse, there's a lot of crappy software for Android. It's easy to cruft up your device.
Sometimes I almost wish for Apple's walled garden and non-multitasking app switching...

Custom rom for me such as team tiamat's latest takes away much of the lag. I also run adw ex launcher which pretty much takes away all the lag.

Hi all,
Well from day one i installed ADW EX as my launcher and only ever install apps i actually need and use as opposed to installing as many as i can because i can. So far i have yet to see any of the issues some users report and have never seen any lag, crashes or freezes maybe I've just been lucky but my Xoom has done all i wanted and more without issue so far.

I have over 100 apps on my xoom, stock 3.2 and it lags after being up for 6+ days. I think some devices need to be reset. I still had horrible keyboard lag on 3.1 after that update so I did a reset and it went away. Since the 3.2 all lag in the app drawer, home screens in different orientations, and opening of apps and menus is gone for me.

I have almost 300 apps, use ADWEX and Hammerhead Rom--everything zips right along. It's true that it begins to lag just a bit when I go a long time w/o rebooting.

im experiencing some serious lag. Not many apps installed but plenty of lag time.

Will suggest to try custom rom. It's easy. Before that may be some maintenance could help. Wipe cash and stuff. Meanwhile was thinking to try v6 supercharged script to illuminate lagging. Is there anyone have tried?

I noticed it too. It appears to have apps just sitting in a tray. If you open it, it never really gets dumped. Multitask just isn't killing these apps when idled for hours. If I am not switching between apps after an hour why keep it up?

Just like any other pc, just close 'em. I use Active Apps widget-just check it when my ram is getting low and close whatever is still active. No need to kill apps that aren't active, though.

And how exactly is it laggy? I get almost no lag, ever, on mine. And I've had the pleasure of owning quite a few tablets: XOOM, Galaxy Tab 10.1, iPad, TouchPad, Viewsonic Gtab, and Nook Color. Out of all of them, the XOOM and Tab 10.1 were arguably the most responsive.
Prior to 3.2, GPU performance was horrible when the screen was in upside-down landscape. This resulted in horrible home screen lag. Thankfully, this has now been fixed. Portrait mode is still slow. But at 0 degrees landscape, it's fantastic.

Read up on the Android Process Lifecycle before complaining about it. App handling done in a very intelligent manner, optimizing speed and responsiveness. We have tons of memory on the device, so why not leave apps as background cached processes? Plus, as part of the process lifecycle, there's a very limited amount of resources that can be devoted to background processes that do not display an ongoing notification. It's on the order of ~5% CPU utilization.

GS3 vs N4 multitasking

A quick question for you lucky people who have got your N4s:
What's the multitasking like? I'm hoping it must be flawless with 2gigs of RAM?
Can someone who has GTA3 tell me if you can pick up exactly where you left off, if you've gone out of the game to do other things for a while? On my current phone GS3, it has the annoying habit of kicking me back to the beginning of the last mission I started if I leave the game for any reason. Is this a RAM limitation on my phone, or does GTA3 do this on all phones?
EDIT: I should mention I'm using the international GS3 i9300, that only has 1GB RAM.

My biggest problem with my older phones was that they would constantly close out the apps that I needed to stay open like contacts, messaging, phone. It annoyed me that my old clam shell phones would instantly open contacts and my G2 couldn't open then faster than 4 seconds or so. This thing leaves all those open and they all open instantaneously.

Flawless x2. Seriously, apps stay in memory for a considerably greater amount of time than my Atrix 2, and obviously longer than my Captivate. It makes switching to almost anything smooth and snappy.

What the other guys said - it is really great. No app loses it status, even if you have open quite a few of them. Switching between apps is absolutely fluent, no hiccups no waiting, nothing!

This should set the expectations of every Android phone.... Stock Android.

To be honest with you, multitasking has completely amazed me on the N4. On the Gnex, apps would close right away. With the N4, I go back to the browser at the end of the day, and the page I loaded hours earlier is still in memory In fact, I have yet to see my phone go below 950mb RAM remaining. I really think 2gb was overkill (1.5 would've easily done the job), but hey, I'm not complaining Also, keep in mind that I don't use any widgets at all, and I have very few things running in the background aside from Skype, so others may have a different experience.
Edit: As for GTA, it might be the game doing this. For example, Livingsocial is really annoying like that too. It doesn't matter if you just hit home and come back right away, it'll start from beginning. Yet, World of Goo, a much more demanding app, will come back exactly as I left it even when I leave to browse the internet for a while. Some developers really need to get with the program. I personally don't have GTA, so I couldn't tell you specifically.

OK, I know its good, but 30 RUNNING? You do realize some stay in the launcher but aren't running, right? So you clicked them and they all didn't need to reload? I find that hard to believe. Someone should do a stress test of how many apps you can open before they need to reload when you go back to them and post it on YouTube

Rubbish phone

I've had this phone for just over 2 weeks and it's utter garbage. Everything runs so slow, there is always a delay when opening messages and other apps. I've had 2 random reboots. I'm coming from a HTC one that is what 2 years old and that baby was sweet as a nut butter smooth. Are there any new updates coming out to make this phone run faster

So get rid of it. Everyone else seem to be pretty positive, including me.

Try the J firmware.

If you can you should return it, if you can't, root and reduce the DPI 560 seems sweet. Also use a different launcher and keyboard. That will remove most of the lag, but not all.

The phone is not rubbish, LGs software and "configuration" on the other hand is a bit over aggressive:
- thermal throttling kicks in too early in my opinion (play a game for a few minutes and frames start dropping like crazy due to the processor being capped). the phone isn't that hot either - considering my N5 reaches temperatures where it feels a lot warmer than this and seems to not cap the speed that aggressively;
- there is a lot of useless software from LG running (updates, smart stay, quiet hours, bla bla bla) which eats up memory, processor usage, etc.
- be careful if you have an sd card in it (I had an old card in it and everything was twice as sluggish);
- avoid power management / battery monitoring tools (using GSAM battery monitor in my experience seemed to keep the phone awake more then it should resulting in earlier thermal throttling).
Ways to improve performance:
- keep the software that you need active (give up unnecessary widgets, services, syncs). keep only to the ones you need;
- try the phone without a sd card;
- try to keep it as cool as possible so it runs cool and doesn't throttle performance;
- (advanced) root ... and get rid of useless junk ...
- (advanced / risky) disable throttling and other safety features ...

I'm loving it. Phone of the year. The m8's got a crappy camera and too much bezel, the s5... Well, it's the s5. Sony, yeah Sony, great contestant. Doesn't have the style, the flare tho. No nanny Fine finesse.

- crappy laggy LG software. No match to Google's Android.
- bleak washed out colors of LG IPS screen
- over sharpening
- crappy over sensitive Knock wake up

There's a solution to your issue and that's get rid of your phone. XDA developers has partnered up with http://swappa.com/ where you can sell and buy phones. No-one appreciates your counter productive thread and no-one wants to hear you complain.

I've had the M8, Nexus 5, Note 2, Galaxy S4...
I only miss the Nexus 5 a bit, for the ROMS of course. This G3 is awesome, Rooted + xposed, patiently waiting for the Devs to crack open the bootloader, or bypass.
Rubbish? Na, Great phone, could be better?, yes, not perfect, but not rubbish @ all.

Nothing dumb about it. The phones software is poor FACT

You guys should yell at a camera for 10 minutes just like what Adam Outler did. You'd really get your point across about how "horribly" bad of a phone this is.

Its not rubbish phone, its rubbish user. I experience no lag at all even with dalvik even tho my eyes are really sensitive to fps since I play PC games, so maybe you should just get an iPhone and stay a noob. Goodluck

"No lag at all" that's just not possible with stock rom sadly. no matter what you say.

I like it and i came from a note 3 iv rooted and disabled any apps i never use and i have no problems i like the screen decent battery nearly 13 hours on battery and nearly 2 hours screen time with 70% left i found messages was laggy so im using hangouts and it seems ok

Everything lags lol every software no matter how many cores you have will lag, it all depends on the code. So when I say " lag free" I mean no unnecessary lag

Browser Lag!

One of the worst thing about this phone is the lag in Google Chrome or the Stock Browser! I can't believe that with the specs it has we still experience lag while browsing mobile sites!

There's nothing but lag which is so disappointing. The fix? Turn JavaScipt off in Chrome or the Stock browser but then you're just left with a broken browser.

Faster than previous Galaxy phones yes but use an iPhone 6 or 6+ to view the link above and tell me you don't see a dramatic difference.

I've gone to pages on both phones and the main thing I noticed is the scroll speed for the iPhone is a lot slower than my HTC or s6. It may be the reason it doesn't stutter as much. I've done lots of testing with the phones side by and you are making it seem like the iPhone is free of any lag which is simply not true.

Apple tricks users. And you feel for it. It "appears" smoother and faster because you can only scroll so much at a time. It breaks pages down in to grids. Its the same trick as how the force long animations to allow home screens to render. Its a lot of smoke and mirrors. And frankly..it works.

I can scroll just as fast if I wanted to, trick or not it's smoother and everything is displayed as expected with no lag whatsoever.

No lag on my N5, however I'd only get the pleasure of visiting the site for an hour before the battery goes dead, so I'd still rather have the s6,

Then you would be the only person on earth that could lol.
Open the page on both devices. From bottom to top flick upwards really fast. See were they both land on the page then you will understand what I mean.

Listen, I had both devices and did my fair share of testing. I've used Android devices for years as well so I know exactly what you're referring to. Back when in JB'd my iPhone I used a tweak allowing me to scroll just as fast as Android and never had any of these issues so please don't try to sit here telling me it's all a "trick" and things aren't being displayed real time.

I did take it back, if you refuse to see an issue then you're just a fanboy in this whole iOS vs Android nonsense. I'm basically stating the obvious issues with Android at the moment and I don't see how anyone could see this lag as acceptable.

I just tested it again. The iPhone clearly does not scroll as fast. If I had a third phone to record it I would. If you already got rid of your phone then why are you on this forum trolling.

So, it's not present, but you had to jailbreak your iPhone and use a tweak to get rid of it? lol I've sat down with both devices to show my friends 100 times. My Androids were faster on 90% of the sites. I've done this for years b/c my friends like to bust my balls about Android vs Apple.
