Hi all,
I use a lot hotspot feature but with every rom I saw connectivity goes down (not wifi connection but umts traffic) after a while the screen is gone off.
To get it starts again I have to switch on the screen (without touching anything else).
Why this happens??
Is this due to kernel fault or setting? Or is it due to rom?
I removed all power management options about wifi/umts automatic switch off when not used.
Thanks

I am using VOIP, but when the display turn off, the wifi connection disconnect. So How can i keep wifi connected all the time even the display is off?
I found the solution here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=273990
You may encounter some problems if u overclock your cpu, mine was overclock to 260, and then downed to 240 still had problem, them downed back to original 195, seems working fine now.
After tests, I found out the method I posted a couple days ago didn't work out realy good. The screen turn white, that scares me. I don't know if that hurts the screen or anything. Anybody has better way to do it?
I found the easiest way, just go to SETTINGS---POWER, and ADVANCED, then uncheck the TURN OFF DEVICE IF NOT XXX ON BATTERY POWER.
screen switch
You could use a program called SCREEN SWITCH and assign it to a hardware button. You can Turn the screen off, saving battery but your wifi keeps operating in the background.

My method works also, it will turn off the display according to your setting in the DISPLAY, you don't have to install a extra software.
I have searched the forums and there are several threads about wifi in standby mode, some folks complaining their phone disconnects from wifi in standby mode and others who complain it doesn't... my problem is connected but distinct in that the way my phone handles wifi in standby has changed hence the reason I've started a new thread...
I have an HD2 and a few days ago had to perform a hard reset (my fault, I was fiddling about with the registry after having installed CHT 1.8.5).
I now have the phone running OK again but am experiencing a change in behaviour with Wifi disconnecting on standby as follows:
Before the reset, I would switch the phone on in the morning, it would connect to wifi and whilst at home would stay connected continiously to wifi (gprs/Edge/H would remain off) even when the phone went into standby.
Since the hard reset, when I switch phone on, it connects at first to wifi but after that, when phone goes into standby, wifi disconnects & gprs kicks in when phone retrieves e-mails etc. When I touch the screen to bring phone out of standby, the wifi reconnects but gprs remains on too (wouldn't be so bad if at least the gprs then turned off!). I then have to turn off gprs in Comm manager.
As I work from home, I prefer to use wifi as gprs drains the battery much quicker too (particulary if both wif & gprs remain connected I suppose). I have the latest version ROM that my provider (Virgin) supports so havent added any updates from the HTC site. Therefore the hard reset should not have made any difference to how wifi is handled on standby I presume
I have asked the Technical support at Virgin & all they could suggest was changing the 'power save mode' for wifi to 'best performance'. This made no difference either so they suggested I raise this with HTC which i have and await their reply (I'm not that confident they'll have the answer though)
Can anyone think why this behaviour has changed & how to revert back to having wifi stay connected in standby?
Thanks Folks

i suspect you had tweaked the wifi in standby setting in your previous set up, before the hard reset but maybe you don't remember.
so you were used to wifi remaining on, even in standby. but after the hard reset, the device has returned to the default behavior (i.e. wifi goes off in stand by).
you can use BSBTweaks to enable the option that keeps wifi on in standby but i have noticed that the setting does not stay after a simple soft reset.
so just download and install this! it works perfectly and remembers the setting between soft resets:

Thanks for the info, but no, I hadn't tweaked the wifi in standby setting as I wouldn't even know how too And didn't have BSB tweaks installed either before or now... That's what's got me confused!
check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5353195 this app works great
You have had to had something changed before the hard reset that would allow WiFi on standby, because it is not allowed by standard.

Thanks, unless HTC come up with something, I will give this a go. I presume if you do want to turn wifi off, you still can in Comm manager?

I know it seems weird, but no, I'm sure I hadn't as I wouldn't have known how too - still don't as if I did I'd change it back! I'm 100% sure that wifi has always remained on in standby previously and there do seem to be others whose phones perform like this too (when they don't want them too!). All very odd
If this is standard Winmo default, it seems rather annoying as when the phone is is in standby, it activates gprs when checking for e-mails & thereafter gprs remains on, so when you wake phone from standby you have both wif & gprs running.....
the app/thread posted by harddisk_wp is the same one i've already referred you to. just install it and you're done!
comm manager will let you toggle wifi on/off as usual. the app above is actually NOT an app...it just runs on every boot up and changes the registry key that determines the behavior of wifi in standby. if wifi is off, it will remain off in standby. if you turned on wifi in comm manager, it will remain on in standby if the mentioned app is installed.
simple as that! no worries, hardly takes up any space on your device, and its a one-shot process on each boot up (it starts, does its job, and then quits) so it doesn't take up any run-time resources whatsoever. capish?
Hi,
when I am downloading a large file, my screen turns off after some time when I do nothing. So far so good. But when I resume to my Android I must see that the Wifi-connection was turned off, too - I think because of battery power saving.
But it was turned off during my file download, so I have to download it again and I have to keep my screen not to turn off by tapping on it periodically. That's what is annyoing me.
I recognized that the connection is not deactivated directly after the screen was turned off. It lasts some time (minutes?) then the wifi connection is turned off, too.
Is there a way to prevent the deacitivation of the wifi connection when the screen is turned off?
Thanks for your answers.
Yes,
Goto settings>wireless connections>wifi adjustments
There you should find an option for WiFi selection politics. Just choose not to never disconnect.
Cheers
Hmm, it is already set to "Never disconnect".
I think this setting is only useful when you want to switch automatically between mobile data (GPRS/UTMS) and WiFi.

No. That happens whether you want it or not if you have a wifi access.
Or I have a couple of busted phones at home that totally ignore this setting.
Tell your screen to never shut off, then change back.
In the morning before I go to work I usually disable WiFi as I don't use it at work and would like to save a little battery. However, I've noticed that throughout the day, I'll check a notification and see that WiFi has turned on without me turning it on myself. I can't see any pattern or correlation that would match up with this. Does anyone know what would cause this? I factory reset last night (due to an unrelated issue) and it's still occurring. I only have a couple of extra apps installed, Falcon Pro and reddit sync.
i think power saving mode sometimes enables wifi when its available... not sure how often this happens or if thats even the issue you're having but check the power save mode settings... 3g and 4g use more power than wifi

I don't have the power saving settings enabled, and I don't see any setting that resembles that kind of behaviour.
So at some point while I was driving home from work WiFi enabled itself again (I didn't even touch the phone). I'm wondering if it may be S Beam causing it? I haven't actually used it but it's the only thing I can think of that would need to actually turn WiFi on. I may try turning it off tomorrow morning when I turn WiFi off and see if that stops WiFi from randomly enabling.
Galaxy S4 Wifi auto enable
Is there a resolution for this? I heard that on the S3 it would pay attention to what cell towers you are using and if it recognizes you are in an area where you have used wifi before it will enable and connect. This seems to be the symptom that I am seeing and it's bad for me. It keeps trying to connect to my work network because occationally I log on so I can access materials. but when I want to listen to Slacker Radio I can't because it's blocked. This is a cronic problem for my phone and I'm not able to find out how to disable it.
if you have got any battery saving apps delete them

Hi guys, has anyone experienced this? The device just sometimes rejects the fingerprint saying "enter pin after reboot". This is mostly random, a few times it was awkwardly correlated to switching from WiFi to mobile net. I felt like the frequency went down when I disabled CDMA and EVDO in the network types, but it still happens. Reducing the CPU aggressiveness to power saving did not help either (I thought maybe the power delivery cannot deal with high spikes?). After everything, I feel like it must be related to the RIL, because moving fast (in a car) and leaving the home WiFi are the main triggers. When it happens at home, I could imagine my flaky WiFi had a hickup - other devices lose WiFi sometimes too. Anyhow, I'm still not sure, and I don't exactly know where it would be logged.
Here's my setup:

Well if anyone finds this googling for the issue: Switch off night light, somehow the device is super unstable with that enabled...
