Can anyone help me please... I'm trying to upgrade the rom to the latest HTC HD2 rom for O2. I connect the phone via USB, sync it and then run the RUU program from HTCs website. The phone starts the process and boots the phone to the 4 colour screen and then to the black HTC progress screen and then it hangs on 0% for a few minutes until the utility finally tells me its lost connection with the phone (Error 262). I've done soft resets and hard resets. Disabled firewalls. Tried on another machine. Even ran the utility under XP SP3 compatibility. Still no joy. Can anyone help?? Thanks
Sounds like you might have a bad USB cable or that you are having timing out problems. First forget about the ActiveSync. All ActiveSynce does is help insure hour HD2 is ready to be flash by checking the battery level and such. Power your HD2 on but hold the volume down button down while powering on. When you see the tri color bootloader screen connect hour USB cable and wait for the Serial in the white bar of bootloader to change to USB and then right click the RUU of the ROM and select run as administrator. If this still does not work I would try another USB cable.

Thanks for this... i followed your instruction and used 2 different cables. No joy.
Anything else I can try that doesn't involved the device suffering a sudden impact with the nearest wall??

could it have anything to do with the phone being locked to O2... its the latest ROM for O2 that I'm trying to install.

hmm....if you are trying to flash stock rom which is not intended for your device, you need HSPL or Gold card.
There are threads in Windows Mobile 6.5 section that will guide you on installing HSPL or making a Gold Card.
Good luck

Well here's the thing, my phone is locked to O2. I'm trying to install the latest ROM from HTCs website for O2 customers. For the life of me I cant get it to install. I did install HSPL a few months ago when I tried to run Android from the SD card. That didnt work either. Like I say, I've done a hard reset. Could the HSPL thing be causing an issue. How do I get rid of it.
I hate being a noob sometimes!!

To get rid of HSPL you just have to run the HSPL Utility avain and choose the correct SPL version for your ROM when it asks what version you want to flash. Remember HSPL has the stock SPL versions to, click on the link in my sig to download HSPL 4. Hint thecstock SPL versions all have four zeros at fhe end and the HSPL version do not.
You said you are getting error 262, this usually means you don't have the right SPL or HSPL one of the two atleast that is if I remember correctly. What ROM are you trying to flash and what does it say in bootloader right now?

Hi... Been away so only just got this reply.
The rom I'm trying to install is a stock rom update from the HTC website:
O2 (UK): 3.14.206.1
For the record, my phone is an O2 phone.
As for Bootloader? It currently says:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x40
Hope that helps. Really bugging the arse off me this is.
get hspl2,
put phone into bootloader manually first and connect usb lead
(thats why it was timing out on you ((error 262)) because the connection takes too long to reconnect when it reboots from winmo into bootloader, , if you do it yourself first, that solves this error 99% of the time.)
when 'serial' changes to 'usb' run hspl2, choose 1.66.0000 (i recommend this because 2.08.0000, whilst stock, is a tmous stock, so 'may' give problems, , totally unconfirmed, but i had issues recently removing android/magldr whilst spl was 2.08.0000, i switched to 1.66.0000 and it worked straight away, i have a slight hunch that spl 2 doesnt like to be downgraded in some circumstances, , if you preffer you could use hspl4 and go straight for 3.03.0000, since that is whjat your 3.14 rom will install anyway when you flash it)
when it reboots saying its done, immediately hold voldown to re-enter bootloader
when serial changes to usb, run your 3.14.exe

Ignore that..
Mate - you're a genius. Followed your instructions and it worked like a charm.
Cheers pal. You saved my brain
Erm, not sure how much more basic i can make it. (Ignore my descriptions, just follow the steps)
Power off, hold voldown, power on keeping voldown held,, see multi striped coloured screen, that's bootloader, you can flash from this screen.
First you should try without bothering to change the spl.
Enter bootloader and connect USB, run the 3.14 you downloaded. That's it.
If it doesn't work, try changing spl as in my previous post by entering bootloader, and instead of running the 3.14 you run hspl instead.
As for writing a guide, you already read the various "how to flash.." guides (there are several) and watched the (also several) YouTube guides before you even started this thread,,, didn't you? Didn't you?? If not then shame on you!
Post back and ill check tomorrow.

Can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong. I'm trying to flash a ROM but every time it goes to the HTC screen and stays at 0%. I've read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614 and i installed hspl. I got the "we hacked it" message so i assume i did it correctly. Is there something else im missing?
I noticed when I flashed from stock to dutty I did it through active sync and not through micro sd card method. Try flashing from a computer
I have been using a computer
reboot into bootloader (power button plus both volume keys) and check to make sure your spl says hspl after the number
what rom are you trying to flash
Reflash the SPL and make sure you select 2.08 HSPL, and not the 2.08.000 SPL because you already have it installed. As the other poster stated, confirm by going into the bootloader and seeing if 'HSPL' comes after the numeric info.

haha, I did the same thing when I got my HD2. The tutorial wasn't clear as to which SPL to choose and I chose the wrong one by accident .
No problem.
That seems to be the common little stumbling block for US HD2 first-time flashers.
Is that option there if you want to change it back to the original spl so you can flash an official ROM?
You don't have to flash it back to stock hspl to flash a stock rom but it is there so after you flash to stock you can relock that way if you have to get the device warrantied out there isn't anything there that would void the warranty.
Hello,
I accidentally flashed a Test ROM w/ an MFG SPL (Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.03.531.6_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.50.23_3_Test) and meant to flash 2.13 shipped rom and now I am stuck with 2.02/2.03.0000 Engineering SPL and can't seem to flash any official/shipped roms to get back to 2.08/2.10 spl..
In other words how can I flash an SPL that is compatible with HSPL3 Utility..
(SPL 1.42.0000, SPL 1.62.0000, SPL 1.66.0000, SPL 2.07.0000, SPL 2.08.0000, SPL 2.10.000)
Please help!
Thanks.

If this helped you out of SPL 2.02 please remember to thank these guys for working this out.
Info about MFG SPL:
Why can't I change the SPL with these test ROMs?
- These stock ROMs have an MFG SPL which cannot be overwritten in any way, not by flashing stock ROMs from SD, HSPL utility, SSPL or goldcard. The only successful way has been to drop the SPL with mtty (and has only been done once or twice).
- Good new is you can still use your HD2 and switch between 2.02 and 2.03 test ROMs..
What is an MFG SPL?
- MFG SPL = Engineering SPL

Guys, MFG SPL allowes you to use some extra commands using JTAG which you wouldn't be able to use on normal SPL.
I remmeber back in the days there was this user "Leoni" who was stuck on 0.67MFG SPL.
Comonex helped him dropping it. I tried to contact him several times for you guys.

this happened to several people some months ago.
goldcard may work, yes, but if not then sspl should get you flashing roms, but you can't change radio with sspl.
look for thread started by xmoo around february or march.
I thought I had tried sspl.. could I have done it wrong?
I found it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=606713
I put the shipped 2.13 (also tried 2.05, 2.07, 2.09, 2.10, 2.11 stock and test roms) rom nbh from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655653 in a folder with the SSPL.exe and then run .exe but the progress bar stays at 0%
I also tried creating a goldcard, but not quite sure how it works. do I put an nbh on the card with it and boot from sd? or use CustomRUU?
The only ones I can flash back and forth are 2.02 and 2.03 test roms. I'm so annoyed!
Thanks
Nevermind the device wont even turn on anymore
2.02 is a MFG SPL.
Engeniering SPL. You have to drop it using mtty (but if you do it the wrong way, you may brick ur phone!)
Someone flashed 2.10.0 with sspl and sent it back for warrenty. When it came back it had 2.13 with SPL 2.10 on it....

Well for some reason I tried flashing to the 1.01 test from the 1.03 to see if it would change from the MFG spl and I wasn't really paying attention to the progress bar but when I looked back it said (on PC) "ROM Update sucessful" but the phone didn't boot and won't even charge now?
What happened? and can I still send it in for warrenty?

I am badly looknig for an MFG SPL.
Can someone point me where this is located pls? thanks!
Sry. please ignore my questions, I asked too fast...
Even MTTY does not remove the SPL 2.02.0000
Any solution for this yet? The test ROMs 201 to 209 are not intended for the TMOUS devices there for it is making it hard to remove the watermarked SPL.
I recontructed the ROM without the watermark but it will not install on the device. Anyone has an idea of how to remove the watermark? The SPL used form that ROM is the cause of the block...
Anymore thoughts on this issue?
I bought an eBay "for parts only" HD2 that the seller said sometimes booted into windows 6.5 but most of the time froze at the stick-together screen and never fully booted. Sounded maybe fixable to me, so I took a chance on it. I've never seen it try to boot into winmo 6.5 and when I check the bootloader info I see this:
PB81120 SS-B3
SPL-2.02.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(Touch) 0x50
The SPL-2.02.0000 was how I found this page. I've read many other pages about HSPL3 etc., but this phone is not recognized at all by two different WinXP machines w/ActiveSync. I don't get any messages regarding Qualcomm or anything like that. It's as if it isn't plugged in except the charge light does go on.
The only thing I can do is flash from the MicroSD card. But, haven't found any other ROMS other than the one that is on it already, that will actually flash. The others get stuck at a white screen that says Loading... and it just hangs there.
When the phone powers up it shows:
R 2.06.50.23......3 (the ...... is actually a squiggly looking line, not actually dots)
G 15.30.50.07u
D 2.03.75592 8G
then it just hangs there forever and goes into what looks like a screensaver mode (parts of the screen get darker and the stick together moves around as well).
If it's dead/bricked, what part inside would need replacing to get it running again (i.e. the motherboard)? This phone looks brand new. It's it fantastic condition. I've seen terrible looking HD2s on eBay that still work. So, I'm curious if there is something I could take out of an ugly phone and swap into this pristine HD2 and have it work.
As I see it, my only other options are to contact HTC and find out what they charge to repair it, or sell it for parts - again.
Since last post have discovered if I manually put phone into bootloader mode then plug it in via USB to my PC I hear the confirmation from the PC that the device is plugged in. Activesync does not fire up, but bootloader changes from serial mode to USB mode. I can start the ROM update utility, the black htc screen with 0% shows on the phone but eventually times out with an error [262] that the recovery process doesn't fix.

The person who owned that previously probably did the same thing I did and flashed one of the test roms with MFG SPL (2.02 or 2.03) Just don't try to flash 2.01, it'll most likely brick it. tomorrow the unbricking attempt on my device will begin.. but I guess you have to drop the SPL using mtty. talk to xmoo
I'll be very interested to read how your unbrick attempt turns out. I tried the MTTY instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668347
But, that post starts out saying "Before you start one note, this method only works if you succesfully flashed HSPL", which of course my HD2 does not have. Mine used to have 2.02.0000, but after many different tries at a fix - now has 2.00.1000. This is no better a situation to be in as it never gets past the "stick together" screen either.
I tried the create a goldcard.img info found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591314
However, the directions for QMAT are outdated. But, I did download the new PSAS software offered at the site linked to in the above post and believe I got my 1GB MicroSD card's serial number but when I tried to "generate HTC goldcard" for Leo it gives a message that says "Goldcard for newer devices isn't implemented in this unregistered version" and it looks like it cost 30Euros to register. I'd pay if I knew for a fact this was going to work. But, I have my doubts because in step 2 you need to change the security permissions policies on the HD2. I have no access to the registry since there is no activesync connection possible at this point and I can't launch any programs like PHM.
The fix (if there is one even possible) has to come completely from the SD card as far as I can tell.
Good luck with yours! I hope something works and you come back here and post the sequence.

that part is only necessary to find the ID No. of the sd card. If you can get access to a working WM phone for a few minutes, you can use the other device to find the ID No.
There are alternate ways to get the ID, such as a linux boot disk on a laptop that has a built in SD card slot, but the slot must be directly mounted on the computers PCI bus, if it runs through a usb header it will give you the ID of teh USB header and not the card.
I'm trying to find a way for HSPL3.exe to disable the SPL version check.
This way you can directly flash other HSPL versions....
Thanks for looking into this..

Is there anything I can do to help?
OK, please try to help me.
I'm having trouble in changing the SPL in my Leo.
I have installed WRONGLY SPL 2.08 instead of HSPL 2.08 by DFT HSPL3
Since this made me unable to install MAGLDR, i tried idiotic idea to install the newest stocking ROM from htc site (Serial confirmed) with htc installer from windows.
Right now, i have working HTC with details as below:
ROM: 3.14.479.2 (04666) WWE
RADIO: 2.15.50.14
SN: HT03DNW00564
When i get into bootloader, there is:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x40
So, time for the problem:
Right now, i can't load anything to my device. When i put LEOIMG onto SDCard, device freezes on white screen with "Loading". I have tried stock roms: 1.48.479.1; 3.14.479.2(same as installed); 1.48.405.2
When i try to load another SPL (or HSPL) from DFT HSPL4 device reboots, goes to bootloader and nothing happens. DFT HSPL just shows progres bar moving and nothing happens (i have waited 20 mins).
I have no more ideas anymore, what can i do. Hopefully Phone works, and those not have any Cooked ROM on it, but i don't wont to use this ROM
PLEASE, try to help...
PS. I have tried different USB Ports, i have installed fresh Windows (really). I'm using XP SP3. Battery is at 100%.
Try running a task 29 and then run the HSPL again and install the 2.08 HSPL. Then flash MAGLDR then the ROM you want.
Edit: Sorry I momentarly forgot you have to have HSPL to do a task 29. Do this make sure your phone is in bootloader and plug it into the computer via USB cable and then wait until it says USB at yhe bottom in the white. Then and only then run the DFT HSPL again.
With Task29 also nothing happens. Same as with ROMS and HSPL, After synchro in ActiveSync, i have run TASK29, then my Leo goes into Bootloader and nothing happend. On Windows screen i have 0% progress bar, on HTC HD2 i see bootloader with USB status.
ERROR 302
EDIT: After clicking through recovery steps, Leo turned to showing Progres bar, but also stops at 0%.

Just making sure: did you try to flash those stock roms over USB? Stock SPL's don't have the same protection that HSPL has, and can be overwritten by flashing over USB just fine.
Also: until you're sure you can reflash at least something, it might be better to stay away from task29
I tried also by USB (all three), and still the same. Progress bar on PC and Phone shows 0% and after some time, Installer shows ERROR about connection. ERROR302 i think.
PS. I really start to think i'm missing some detail. ROM works, everything works excluding boot loader. For me, it looks like bootloader is broken somehow, and i don't have idea how to make it work properly.

Hmm... If you can't get your phone to flash anything over either USB or SD, it does sound like your bootloader might be corrupted or something. That 302 error also doesn't sound good.
I guess if you have them you could try flashing using:
- a different pc/laptop
- a different SD card (perhaps a goldcard?)
*Probably* won't help, but won't make things worse either.
Ok, for today i have enough. I will try tomorrow with another PC.
SD Cards i already tried three of them.

I m quite confused, usually the stock rom v.3.14 contains SPL 3.03 (not 2.08). So, I m curious what version of your hd2, is it TMOUS?
Have you tried a HARD RESET?
Try HR and see whether your hd2 can pass that.
If succeded, you can retry flashing HSPL over usb (dont forget to turn off antivirus, firewall, internet on your pc) or else retry flashing via micro sd flashing (use 2,4 or 8 gb reformated micro sd)
hope you can succeed.
good luck
When i try to load another SPL (or HSPL) from DFT HSPL4 device reboots, goes to bootloader and nothing happens.

choose 2.08.hspl

flash rom
I have tried stock roms: 1.48.479.1; 3.14.479.2(same as installed); 1.48.405.2

I have already tried to start hspl4 without running WinMo, same effect. In WinXP Bootloader still displays on the Phone, and in DFT HSPL progres bar just bounce from left to right.
In Vista DFT HSPL returns critical error about connection.
About ROMS, 3.14 is East Europe (downloaded from HTC after checking serial) and 1.48 is WWE, also checked with serial from HTC site.
I have tried 1.48 EE since somewhere i have read, taht i have to get rom with the same number on the end, as installed (ie. 3.14.479."2")
PS. I can't tconnect to Mobile Center is Vista. With ActiveSync on WinXP there are no problems.

My Phone is East Europe WWE (afaik).
I have installed SPL 2.08 onto HSPL 1.6 with DFT HSPL3.
Then i have installed 3.14 by USB. I don't know, why i still have SPL2.08 if you say i should't.
HR works fine.
In a minute i will check HSPL with internet turned off.
How to flash HSPL via microSD ?
Since i can't flash whole ROMs (maybe i have wrong ones, but they pass serial check on htc.com) from microSD (3 cards checked 2GB SD, 4 GB SDHC(don't work), 16 GB SDHC)

Doesn't matter, still right click and run as admin, always put phone in bootloader yourself before starting to flash, if it fails just run hspl.exe again. Try all USB ports.
No, you can't apply hspl from SD card.

PROBLEM SOLVED
I needed to make another admin account in WinXP. And then use it by Run As (then choose this new account).
I don't know why it works like that, but it worked.
Just to give all informations.
After more testing, i detected my Computer problem. My USB ports were not working properly, and update of Motherboard BIOS helped (ASUS P7P55D). So, i don't know what was the exact issue of problems.
OK, so i am trying to load the stock rom back on my old HD2 to send back to t-mobile.
My phone has a broken flex cable going to the bottom buttons so i cannot hit the power button.
I downloaded the stock rom from t-mobile and have it both on sd card and on computer.
I can boot the phone to the point where it wants me to load the rom from SD card, i just cannot hit the power button to accept.
So i tried to do it from the computer. when i do, it just hangs at 8%.
Does anyone have any idea how I can put stock rom back on it?
Hold your volume down button down while you power,on your HD2. When you see the multicolor bootloader screen come up connect your USB cable to the HD2 and computer. Wait for the Serial in the white bar of bootloader to change to USB then run the RUU for the T-Mobile ROM. After you have flashed the ROM download HSPL 4 (linked in my sig) and run it but select SPL 3.03.0000 when it asks what version you want to flash. When you are done runningvthe HSPL utility boot into bootloader again to make sure you have SPL -3.03.0000. If you do and you should ypu are good for warranty.

Have you tried flashing via SD card? Here is a guide on how to do this.
Also I recomend you flash HSL first as it might help.

You don't have to have to be synced through ActiveSync you use HTC USB sync. Click on my guide linked in my sig and follow the instructions there on how to flash HSPL you will see what I mean.
I reloaded HPSL 2.08 and then tried to install the stock firmware via usb and it still hangs at 8%. I wonder if i try to install a different version?
I cannot boot from SD since my bottom keys dont work. I cannot click the call button to accept.

Don't you understand? You don't need the stock ROM, once you have the stock SPL you -should- be fine. Go to the tri-Color screen and download HSPL4 on your PC and run it and choose 3.03.0000 (not HSPL) and click next and it should flash. If you've done that then you're ready to send it off for warranty. No need for stock ROM. Just change the HSPL to SPL again which TMagnolia and I just told you how to do.
Oh yeah and you can easily get to the tri-color by plugging the USB in and holding the Vol down button.

Awesome! Thank you, no I was not understanding...very new at this. Thank you!
Quick question to add... there is no rom on there at all now....do i need to install one for warrenty?
The green square still says "upgrade rom code error" please try again
They won't power the phone on to see if theres a ROM and if they do it'll boot to SPL in which case I'd say they'd flash a stock ROM. What green box?

I think they do not have a stock ROM on the HD2 and I was stupid and did not realize they probably already had HSPL on thier HD2. So they are not good to go for warranty just yet.
At the OP try right clicking on the RUU and select run as administrator. Also try different USB ports too that might help.

I would still try to get the stock ROM on the HD2 before sending it in cause I can assure you if they will turn the phome on and check the ROM and SPL. and if they have SPL 3.03.000 and not SPL 2.10.0000 they will say why iscthat cause it looks like they were tring to update the phone and sould not have SPL 3.03.0000. Then they will probably say they either did not preform the flash correctly or had un approved software on the phone and will not pass it as warranty.

Yes that is the RUU, right click it and select run as adminastrator, Skellyyy is right too you need to use the HSPL 4 Utility to reset your HSPL to SPL 3.03.0000 if you get the ROM to flash
Okay, I've spent about a week trying to figure out why I can't get HSPL4 to flash 2.08.HSPL onto my phone (and subsequently MAGLDR 1.3, then SOME version of Android).
I'd like first to apologize to samsamuel if I missed a thread somewhere that addresses this issue - I know you've gotten frustrated with a lot of people asking the same questions over and over =/
So here's the problem... I have a WinXP machine running ActiveSync 4.5 that recognizes my phone. When I first got my T-Mo HTC HD2 a year and some change ago, I went ahead and used the SD card to run an old version of Android (executed from within WinMo 6.5). At some point it died, and I went on using WinMo 6.5.
I got fed up with it and decided to try and go the HSPL/MAGLDR route. However, when I sync up the phone (usb cable -> hd2 w/ActiveSync, Enable Data Sync unchecked) and run HSPL4, it finds the phone, reboots it into rainbow mode, tells me I have "SPL 2.08.0000 ||", allows me to select 2.08.HSPL, then hangs on the "Please wait while installing the HSPL. Do not touch the device!!" screen and just keeps scrolling the progress bar back and forth. I left this up overnight (~8hours) and neither the phone nor the progress screen changes. No errors, nothing.
I've currently got the stock 2.10.0 ROM on the device, but I've also tried the 3.14.0 stock ROM (SPL 2.10.000) to no avail.
Here's all of the info I can think of to provide...
T-Mobile HTC HD2, 16GB MicroSD, 576MB RAM
R: 2.08.50.08_2
G: 15.34.50.07U
D: 2.10.82076
Rainbow Road says:
PB81120 HX_B3
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x40
Any help troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated!

Tried that as well, still the same result. =( It recognizes the installed SPL version "2.08.0000||", I select 2.08.HSPL, it goes to the "Please wait..." screen and then nothing happens. Progress bar animates indefinitely and phone just sits on rainbow screen (USB displayed at bottom).
I've tried with and without the MicroSD card and with/without the SIM card. Same result.
Any ideas?

If you stay on the rainbow screen, please have a look if USB is indicated.
If so, unplug and plug again the cable. USB disappears and come again.
Try again..

yea fiddle with the cable to be sure its connected, but to be honest, rather than spend hours trying, find a 32bit machine to try it on, id lay 60:40 on it working straight away.

Also, as far as I can remember there is no stock ROM called 2.10? And flashing stock ROM 3.14 should give you SPL 3.03 not 2.10

2.10 was the original t mo, with spl 2.08.0000, 2.13 has 2.10.0000, and the tmous seems not to require spl 3.03.0000 to run 3.14, while the regular runs bad and loses ram when it uses 3.14 with any other spl than 3.03.

I think I've been running in circles long enough trying to figure this out that I've thoroughly confused myself on how to correlate the ROM version and the SPL version, lol.
I guess I'll try another machine when I get home from travel, but so far still the same weird issue where it just sits there. Any other suggestions are welcome!

heh my mistake, was thinking of another thread.
Thought of trying hspl3? hspl4 is only necessary if you are on 3.03.0000
There are even some threads talking about hspl4 possibly causing problems, even going as far as causing the 'unable to get into bootloader' and 'bad modelID' problems,, but i haven't really looked into that so couldn't say.

Of course, completely forgot that TMOUS had different stock ROMs, my bad. As samsamuel said, HSPL4 has caused some problems for some people (not for me as far as I know, but it has for others), so try using HSPL3 which I would think is perfectly fine for your ROM version and SPL version currently.
No luck on HSPL3 either - exact same problem. Just sits there and does nothing, no errors or anything.
Tomorrow I'll try on my Win7 laptop to see if it's some sort of strange driver issue =/
Went ahead and installed all the necessary drivers on my Win7 machine, synced up and HSPL3 worked on it. I'm guessing there is a device driver issue or something on my WinXP machine that is preventing HSPL from working.
I may look into it further at a later date to try and post a (real) solution to the problem in case someone else runs into this, but for now the problem is resolved. Many thanks to those of you that replied to help =)
