does anybody have a major problem with hero lagging. It is really annoying. I was wondering if rooting the hero can fix this problem. If not do you guys think the 2.1 update will fix it.
What ROM are you running? What apps do you normally have running in the background? Are you using a Task Killer that automatically kills apps on a set time frame? Have you tried doing a factory reset/wipe to see if it makes a difference? And finally, where do you see the lag the most? Is it in a particular application, or are you judging the "lagginess" based on moving back and forth from your home screens in SenseUI?
Answering ALL of these questions will help us understand what you're seeing a little better. Your question is a little vague, and your answers will probably help you get some more support from folks on here.
Thanks!
My phone was laggy too. I rooted it and put the fresh rom on it and I saw a big improvement in overall performance. Still not as fast as my old iphone 3gs, but I would never go back. I also don't use task manager anymore. It always runs in the background and drains your battery faster.
I was having the same issue.. and I narrowed it down to Handcent(SMS) of all things..
phone was fast until I installed it.. then it ran like a dog.... then I uninstalled handcent and speed it actually usable now..
I would like to see confirmation of this from others as well..

Yeah handcent killed me, made the phone not just a dog, but a wounded dog born with 2 legs. 10x worse than the stock hero app, which is bad.
I'm running handcent, but I haven't noticed any specific slowdowns from it. It can take a while to load the main handcent screen when you have lots and lots of texts in there, but I usually clear them out when I get over 100 or so anyway.
Check to see that you have the most recent version of Handcent. I think I read that there was a performance bug related to their special "with Christmas animations" holiday release (that has since been fixed).
Also, remember to clear the boot-cache directory and reboot after upgrading apps ('rm -r /data/boot-cache/*'; reboot). The Hero has problems with caching apps after upgrades (so you aren't actually running the upgrade version). I have no idea if this was fixed in the newer ROMS. I'm running Fresh and still do it, as it only takes a sec (if you have the android-sdk and root set up).
Turning off HandCent popup notifications resulted in a substantial performance increase for me. Which is good, as I really like the features HC adds (such as voice-to-text).
I had the latest version and it was always cleared out sms wise. and I never used popup notifications.. they were annoying.. and I just got a fresh replacement of the Hero (warrantee) and its still on stock rom and Handcent still killed it.. in one day..
i have not rooted, pure stock phone. only app i think runs in background is email and loopt
I notice the lag from everything to sense UI to the clock taking 2-3 secs to update to my contacts scrolling, to text message lag, to calling even lags. like anything and everything can lag.
It all has to do with this bug in Android 1.5:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3453
I'm running AOSP 1.6 on my Hero right now and it is ridiculously fast.
So yes, I think that the 2.1 update (which hopefully will come out soon) is going to fix these issues for us.
on your location settings turn off "network location" then reboot..your lag will be gone...and make sure you have a task manager installed too and end your apps so they take over your processor
Task managers are a waste of time.

This is very true. I was running the 2.1 build from here the last few days (thought I had to revert due to missing some texts and voicemail) and it's much speedier. It uses the HTC keyboard, but it's much faster in its response, almost instantaneous. The location bug really does suck up a lot of CPU time.
Also, maybe its just me, but I think it's important to remember the kind of device we're using, the hardware involved, and what you're asking it to do. It's not like you're walking around with a quad core CPU and 4GB of RAM in your pocket, but it seems a lot of people think it should respond as if that's what it has. It's a phone, yes, and it should be able to do phone stuff quickly if possible, but look at all it can and is doing. If you need absolute speed, get a dumb phone that can't browse the web, play games, or do just about anything. It'll run just fine.
handcent never made my phone lag. The only thing that made my phone lag was HTC's battery widget. Damn thing slowed my phone down so I uninstalled it and phone is running back fast again. I still use task manager because I do notice once to many apps are open it lags. Don't care what anyone says it happens on my phone. I do have a lot of applications on ignore though.
Try disabling Location services.

I used to wholeheartedly disagree with this statement, until I read a kickass article explaining how Android actively manages memory.
Now, I also agree with this statement 100%. I don't even use my paid task manager app anymore. :/
When I first rooted my G1 I rooted to Super D 1.9.2 and thats when I realized my G1 still has balls. Now ever since I updated to 1.9.3 it is very slow and laggy. I even wiped and flashed about three times; once a direct update from 1.9.2, once a full wipe the flashed from sd card with redownloaded ROM, and once a flash without wiping from 1.9.2.
Also everytime I use nandroid or backup for root users my G1 goes into bootloop.
??
have you tried the version with WG-beta 3 kernal yet?
Do you have any swap or cc enabled? If so, how much of either and/or both? Have you tried different settings? What about turning both off?(thats the best in my opinion)
Are you using jit Hack? Correctly installed? (hence all the threads and post going around with everybody's method of using it, and roms with it packaged,lol)--EDIT: also found to be unstable and a ram hog-Cyan
Is home screen in memory or out? (better out if you don't use a lot of widgets)
You wiped 3 times huh?, Did you full or half a** wipe?(meaning data, dalv, ext, battery and rotate settings-thats full wipe) well have you also repaired ext?, fixed permissions?, re-partitioned?, re-flashed 1.6 base?(helps, sometimes.)
Did you flash any 3rd party packaged or compiled zips over it? such as boot.imgs, themes, launchers and stuff like that? (if so, that could be the problem)
Did you reboot at least once after a fresh install? if not, Please do. Usually by second or third boot, everything is running smooth.
How many apps you got? Have you installed any new ones since the lagging started to happen? (if so, get rid of them, or re-install them, that should clear any bad data and cache carried along with it)
Have you tried customizing yourself? Some folks like to push the old contact apk because the newer versions have too many features, causing slow downs
Have you un-installed any eclair or useless system apps?
Are you killing unwanted background processes properly?
ok now....before you attempt to answer any of these questions with a reply or quote...STOP I don't want or expect a response, these questions are what you should be asking yourself, and sometimes that can help you solve your own problems, by taking all of these concepts into consideration, and re-evaluating them for different results.
all in all, the most important question you should ask yourself, DID YOU SEND A DETAILED LOGCAT TO THE DEVELOPER HIMSELF (BEN) BEFORE POSTING THIS THREAD COMPLAINING ABOUT HIS WORK?
if not, then Im sure you will figure out what to do from here , good day sir.
Thanks for your time I guess its te for me to get working.
I just remembered that everytime I use backup for root useres it kills my phone and shuts it off then it becomes slow.
I tried out Super D w/ wg-kernel 2 days ago and found it pretty laggy. For some reason installing apps would take forever and my navigation app wouldn't install at all.

I have that problem too.
I install apps with astro and adb. Both are equally slow because I'm pretty sure it is using the sd card only and avoiding using internal memory at all costs... bit too aggressive of a setup. I think my navigation app failed to install correctly because some part of the installer was time sensitive and writing to the sd card went over the clock limit
I've had ****ty market performance in every ROM I've used. Market in SuperD w/ WG Kernel behaves exactly the same for me. Installing using ASTRO works excellent for me, however. No CC/Swap. JIT enabled.
yeah I got astro too...never tried installing system apps with it though....I mostly use root explorer, but hey, either way...tomato - tomatto....all the same.
I too found Super D 1.9.3 runs really laggy on my G1. I tried all sorts of compcache settings (including off) and started using Adv Task Manager to end non-required apps regularly but it made no difference
Strangely, I then flashed it to my Magic and found it's alot smoother. Maybe not as fast as Dwang but still pretty smooth. Wes Garner reckons the only thing which will slow down a 32B G1 compared to a 32B Magic is Apps2SD.
I did not wipe battery and rotate info on either phone, I didn't think that would cause any problems, though the G1 has had a longer life so perhaps that's the issue.

always wipe battery and rotate setting when going to a different rom, you don't have to do it if you are updating, or just flashing over the current rom, but if you are going to a whole new build, meaning different kernel or base like from 1.6 to 2.1 for example, wipe the battery and rotate settings.

Those of you running auto killer in your roms, did you use the aggressive settings or custom?
I'm just curious to see if anyone increased the auto kill.
I use either the aggressive or custom depending on the Rom honestly. DC ROMS= Aggressive. FRESH ROMS= strict. and all others = custom

I've been using Aggressive on Fresh 2.0d and it's been running great.
I tried Moderate for a while at first, but Homerun Battle 3D wouldn't even startup consistently. Once I changed it to Aggressive it has been working great.
Another quick note. I know Autokiller is supposed to reapply the settings on boot, but I'm not sure mine is. I haven't rebooted for a day or so, but the last couple times I rebooted I couldn't get Homerun Battle to run. Then I went into Autokiller and applied Aggressive again and it would start. Anybody else having similar experiences?
I used either the aggressive or strick on Fresh 2.0d. So far everything is running the smooth and fast. This the way HTC hero should have come out of the box.
What does each preset do? Is this for speed or battery life or both?

Damn. I wish Homerun Battle 3D would run great for me. Problem is I get crummy service at work and with it going in and out of 1x and EVDO, causes the game to lag.
I have noticed sometimes on first opening HRB, it force closes but it always opens the second time.

i'm running aosp 1.6 from gbhil and i used custom autokiller settings.
the way i see it they made these phones with all this ram may as well use it, what good is it to have all this free ram?
1536,3072,4096 (all default) then hidden app is 7680. content provider is 8960 and empty app is 10240. i normally run around 40-45 free ram thats about where i like it. the phone still runs fine all the way down to 20mb free but any less than that it starts going downhill.
so, im MB my settings are 30 then 35 then 40. runs great!
yeah, I get some lag now and then if I don't have great service. Playing offline seems to work fine though. I think it's just the online play that it effects. A co-worker has a Droid and his lags when playing online as well if he's in a spot without good service.

Autokiller does have a built in task killer but its real use is to tweak memory settings at boot and then shuts itself down (so Android can take care of the rest). So, in reality it is not really a task killer per say.
Fair enough, but it's still entirely pointless. I trust the device manufacturer and Android far more than I ever would the random numbers that I might otherwise delude myself into believing were somehow better.
Just let Android do its thing all of the time. It doesn't need any additional help (particularly with the process management in 2.1). Stop including this garbage in ROMs.

It actually very useful for making roms run smoother. By default the memory numbers are very low, which lets a TON of apps run at the same time. The higher the memory numbers the more it ends apps that you werent even using. It gives what you are currently running or recently ran more priority. Even if you dont use AutoKiller, which is just an app to adjust the memory setting, every rom comes with an edited memory setting other then htc's default. Its most commonly known as gumbo's memory settings.
Also in AutoKiller you can adjust the settings to default, or just really low like htc would have them set.
Its really not a bad thing to include in roms because most people want there rom to be smooth and as close to lag free as they can get. AutoKiller helps achieve that by ending stuff you dont currently have up making the phone run faster. Thats if you have a decently set setting. I run mine on optimum, and it doenst close unnecessary things like if im on the web it stays running.
I can understand an app like Task Killer which just terminates the apps. AutoKiller is just setting the memory setting of your phone, which end apps the same way as if the phone were running normally. Just if the numbers are higher the more apps it will end quicker freeing up more space.
Also you really trust htc and sprint?? haha good luck with that

Either way it should be a choice made by the USER not someone who decides what I need or do not need on my phone. What I choose to have running or not running, there is no need for this garbage for the average joe who just wants something that does not look and feel like Sprint garbage. If its such a great and useful thing put it on the market and let users have a choice.
hey guys. i'm a very nitpicky person and there has been a few "issues" that have been ticking at me lately. i wanted to ask to see if it's an issue with my rom (OMJ v3.1 odex) or just general issues with the phone that I have to live with.
1) for a 1ghz phone, it takes FOREVER to load. i'm usually anywhere from 15 to 45 seconds on the splash screen, after which the boot animation plays and maybe 10-15 seconds after the animation ends the phone starts to load....but it goes into the lock screen, and i have to unlock it, and then a million things start opening up, so that from screen off to fully loaded and ready to make a phone call the phone takes at least 1 minute, sometimes close to 2 minutes.
EDIT: just timed it - 45 seconds on splash screen, 25 seconds from end of boot animation to lock screen
i'm coming from a 667mhz WM6.1 phone that would boot, animation and all, be ready to call in 30 seconds or less.
i can live with the time it takes to load if it was normal...but then I hear things on here on how the evo loads in 8 seconds and i'm looking at mine and wondering what's wrong
is this a rom issue (OMJ v3.1 odex), kernel issue (king's #6), android (2.2), phone in general, or a result of all the different things we install on our phones (adblockers, superuser, custom flash, custom boot, etc)?
2) when the phone loads it always opens the dialer. i go back into home screen. throughout the day at least once or twice the dialer will randomly open on its own when i unlock my screen.
3) wi-fi at home is secured through wep2...but at school is unsecured to connect, but then you need to authenticate through the browser. sometimes this works, sometimes the browser (dolphin hd) just stays loading and doesnt take me to the authetication page...and the only way around is it to disable and enable wifi again. then everything is perfect.
is this a rom issue? or a dolphin hd issue?
4) I have LauncherProPlus with their custom icons from the website. whenever i restart the phone the icons for Dolphin HD, Documents to Go, MixZing and Pandora change to their standard icons. i have to restart launcherpro and they go to the matching icons i have throughout the homescreens. then at random points those three icons revert back to the stock icons, and i have to restart launcher pro.
is this a LP problem, a rom problem, or a me-specific problem?
5) perhaps the most important issue - i have problems downloading and installing certain apps in the market. I paid for lcd density changer and installed it. uninstalled it later on. now i'm trying to reinstall and I keep getting an installation unsuccesful message...same thing goes for Rom Manager (which i have installed, but installation unsuccessful with update), and many others. Some programs will update, some wont. Today I tried to download 3d gallery through the market and keep getting that issue.
this has happened with other programs in the past, where I thought maybe they werent meant for the EVO...but many of those had comments from EVO users??? and now some of those programs that wont install are programs I HAD or I HAVE installed!!!
is this a rom specific issue? or a market issue? or an odex issue? or does it have anything to do with having app2sd and move2sd enabler on the phone? none of the programs in question have been moved to the sd card...obviously not the ones like 3d gallery that I haven't yet installed.
so, thank you for reading through all that. any help in either of the issues will be greatly appreciated.
if most of the issues are rom-related i will go hunting for a new, stable rom. if they're general woes that come with owning the Evo then I guess i need to know that too.
thanks in advance!
I can't really help you much in terms of a solution, but coming from a Blackberry the EVO boot time seems very fast! However, the EVO is definitely not an 8 second loader, I don't know where you got that information.

This is just a guess, but I'd say it's the ROM you're using. Have you tried anything else? Make a nandroid backup of your phone now, then flash another ROM and test it out, it's easy to revert with the nandroid backup. Keep in mind the first time you load any newly flashed ROM it will take longer than normal to boot.
In my experience, stock 2.2 and all its OTA updates (and the ROM I use that is based on the latest OTA) are pretty good when it comes to boot times. Anything you install may have the potential to slow things down.
I'm currently using the VaelPak 2.2 ROM with the latest HTC kernel (no 30FPS limitation) which is very stable and very fast. VaelPak stripped out some of sense (not all) and I love how you have the choice between HTC/Sense elements or AOSP. For example, I actually like the HTC dialer, messaging, and contacts.
thanks.
i guess i'm going to have to flash a new rom...but it'll have to wait till next week!
i'll look into the different roms but i had thought of flashing CM6 since I'm not using any sense other than the dialer as far as i know
thanks
any other opinions are welcome!

Are all of those apps saved on your SD Card? I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
yes all four apps are in the sd card. i was using pandora and plugged the phone in to my pc to try to install that 3dgallerym.apk i found on here. pandora stopped (i'm assuming as the sd card was unmounted). after unplugging and the card was remounted i was able to open pandora again...but then the 4 icons had reverted again.
i'm starting to think that is a lp issue. i'll send a message to the developer see what he says about it.

FYI they have their own forum. You should see if it has already been answered there.
http://www.launcherpro.com/forum/
The boot up taking so long is do to custom roms being deodexed.. It puts the odex file into the apks so that you can theme a rom without any problems. Stock roms arent deodexed so they boot up a lot faster. Its the only downside to deodexing a rom.
Also you should try to start fresh.. wipe data and dalvik and reboot. Then see if you have a problems with downloading and stuff. It might be cache left on the phone messing it up. If a clean data/dalvik wipe doesnt fix your problems then its most likely the rom or user error. Try a different rom for couple weeks and see if you come across the same problems.
My rom is odexed...
Im going to try cm6 next week most likely...
Swyped from an HTC Evo on MetroPCS...
First off, are you running a task killer or manager? If so, uninstall and reboot. A lot of the time this is the source of problems. Android manages its own tasks quite well. I can go into a lot more details if you'd like about why you shouldn't use one.
If not using a task killer or that did not help....
I say try Fresh ROM or Myn's Warm. Fresh is very stable. I think you may have a corrupt download of the ROM. However, since you are using LP you don't seem like a Sense UI person so CM6 may be your option. However, it does not have 4G nor HDMI. Personally, I love Fresh ROM. The dev came from the Hero like me and has a very very good track record for being stable and fixing things. And he is a cool guy.
Install one of those and then post back if you still have problems. I think this will fix it.
BTW did you flash from another ROM and use a backup app to restore? This can cause problems with ROMs that have different settings and options.
As for boot times, like the earlier guy said deodexed ROMs do extra stuff while booting. Also, lots of apps can cause slow boots because they start up on boot. You can use an app to disable them.
And last, app not installing. Hit menu-settings-applications-manage applications. Hit the SD tab and see if those apps show up. If so, click on them and uninstall. This will most like fix that issue.
Post back results here or if you need further help. We will be glad to help.

Pandora has always been glitchy. Its a great service, but they need a new programmer.
8 second phone. I think not. Try the Desire Z (G2), their version of Froyo looks faster.
If your new to the EVO, give it some time. Its a smartphone, and anyone with experience knows that all smartphones are temperamental some times, just like computers.

This will most like fix that issue.
well the problem is 1) if the app is in my sd card, i dont need to uninstall it, just move it to the phone and then i can update it. but i have over 100 apps installed, it is not practical to do this for every update for every app! 2)some apps, like LCD Density Changer, which I paid and had installed before, wont install at all and i dont have it installed...so what there?
Post back results here or if you need further help. We will be glad to help.

i think i'm definitely changing roms....just have to consider if i want to get a stock rom or go to cm6

I say try Fresh ROM or Myn's Warm. Fresh is very stable. I think you may have a corrupt download of the ROM. However, since you are using LP you don't seem like a Sense UI person so CM6 may be your option. However, it does not have 4G nor HDMI.

The OP's sig says he has his EVO on MetroPCS; if that's the case then lack of 4G shouldn't be a concern.
That's the only real thing keeping me from trying CM6, even though there are only a few pockets of 4G coverage where I live.
Well I switched roms to ava v9 and some of the issues seem to have gone away...but still having problems installing apps from market...many if the apps and games I had before on my previous rom give an installation unsuccessful message...
Im thinking it may be something I damaged by installing htc and sprint apps right after flashing the rom...I'm going to restore all those files and see what happens...

I'm getting quite annoyed at my phone's lack of RAM.
I browse the internet and constantly open new windows (up to the max 4 allowed by the HTC browser, but that's another story) so that I can quickly go back a page when I need to.
If for some reason I go and use a couple of other apps on the phone, and then come back to the browser I constantly find that the oldest 3 pages have dropped completely out of RAM, and the 4th one has as well, and that last one alone loads up again.
This is annoying, time-consuming and messes up my browsing session. Is there some way I can prioritise the browser so that most other apps get killed off before it does?

Try using firefox instead on the defualt browser .its not perfect yet but its getting
better and better with every beta release .
I don't think an alternate browser will help with Android unwantedly killing off processes.
Incidentally, I tried Firefox a couple of months ago and found it to be completely unusable - I take it it's worth checking out again now then?
Another possibility is to set the Android memory manager to be less aggressive in removing things from memory (you can use an app like AutoKiller to change the settings easily---try tweaking the settings to see if helps with your usage model).
I know AutoKiller will also allow you to lower the oom value for the process (the lower the oom, the less likely the memory manager will kill it in the background), but I don't think this will help for the browser (since the OS will dynamically change its oom each time you bring it to the foreground and send it to the background again). If someone knows a way to make the oom value permanently lower, that sounds like exactly what you want.
Maybe someone else has some ideas. I know often times launchers will have the option to keep themselves in memory, and CM6 has the option to keep messaging in memory (more like your situation), so it should be doable.

defo ,its much better now i figured since you were annoyed by 4 tab limit
you might find firefox helpful. because it doesnt have limit or if it does its more than 4 for sure also it has an aption called (your tabs from last time) which again i think
you will find it usefull ,you can also sync it with you pcs firefox too .
EDIT: I just tried it to make sure, even if you reboot your phone
and open firefox again you can just press on (your tabs from last time)
and it will restore them all.
The way I see it there are a few things you can do...
Firstly, you could try a renice script. It does what other people have suggested and changes the oomph value to what you like. It was commonly used on the g1 for the dialer so that you wouldn't miss phone calls lol. Its easy to do if you know the syntax, I would make you one myself if I was near a computer lol.
Another thing you could do is try an aosp/CM based rom, as those generally have much, much lower ram usage compared to sense.
Lastly you could try a different browser. There are so many to choose from I'm sure one will fit your needs.

I use autokiller on my DZ, you have to have root to use this tho... quite satisfied about it, almost all the time 90+ free ram even when doing heavy stuff... quits the unused shizzle...
cheers
I HIGHLY recommend Dolphin Browser HD.
It is significantly faster than the stock Browser and I have had no issues with Android closing it down. One feature I like is that there is actually an 'Exit' button in the menu for those individuals who have OCD like me and don't like the Browser running in the background when not wanted.
Thus far, this is the best mobile Browser I have used. That being said, I have not tried Firefox and have been a regular user of Opera Mini in the past on other devices.
You should try miren browser once, i'm using it now instead of dolphin hd, and there is a exit button in the menu to. I think its better styled, it has got all the features of dolphin HD without all the bloating around... no gestures tho
cheers
I think its more of poorly optimized software because im pretty sure that google devs don't even utilize the full 512mb of RAM in 2.2. Chances are its the HTC sense limiting you.

Yeah I don't think this issue is anything to do with a lack of RAM.
I may try another ROM, however I'm just not up for flashing all the time like I used to with my old Desire or G1 before that. I want a 100% working ROM, preferably something that allows overclocking with a kernel that doesn't break stuff.
And I also want my HTC phone dialler/contacts as well, not vanilla or a cheap copy from the Market. Oh, and I hate the vanilla lockscreen - it's just hard to operate compared to the Sense one. I don't know why it's so hard to unlock side to side on Android - the iPhone takes a little flick and it's unlocked - vanilla Android is like a mission to ensure I've dragged it far enough across to unlock.
And I don't want my keyboard or capacitive keys or quick keys mullered up (I am running a Euro DZ).
If these issues can be dealt with easily when setting up the ROM/phone then I'm prepared to devote a little time to doing it.
So - any suggestions, please?
dont use htc sense roms.
I'm running the virtuous sense rom with his advanced kernel, ive ran the normal rom about 2 weeks, and ive yet to see differences other then a huuuuuuuge speed increase... i would just try it once if i were you its such a relieve...
I played with the latest over the weekend. I ended up uninstalling it. I'd hit a page with scripting and then firefox would lock up and crash.
Web2Go isn't perfect, but at least it doesn't crash as often.
This has nothing to do with RAM. This phone handles RAM just fine. Use Miren and thank me later. It's the best browser by far!

No text reflow = showstopper.
Unless I'm just being blind, I can't find any way to enable this in the settings for Miren.
It's sense. Sense roms use way more RAM than vanilla roms do. Also check out dolphin HD or dolphin mini browser.
Another issue I'm having which points to lack of RAM (whether this is due to Sense sucking it all up or not) is that programs do not stay in in RAM for that long, ie I go away from an app then return after using a few other apps (not massive games or anything) and when I return the first app's UI has been kicked out of memory and has to load up again, causing anything between a momentary (dialler, mesaging) to an annoyingly long (browser, maps, market) white screen, as data is downloaded again.
People talk a lot of sh*t about the iPhone, but cacheing (caching? sp?) a copy of the last screen for each app before it's closed so you instantly get a visual image of the UI of the app following the opening animation is a pretty good idea IMO.
Has anyone here used the Desire HD? I would think with the 768MB of RAM on that badboy this would be less of a problem.

I've now installed Enomther's Official rom - what a difference to the speed of the phone! It absolutely flies, even when clocked at a lower CPU speed, and it appears to retain stuff in memory a lot better than the standard Sense rom. Also, there's over 100MB more of free RAM afte a fresh boot.
I'm definitely sold on the efficiency of stock Android, but I'm now missing some of my HTC goodies... I don't think anyone can deny that the HTC dialler is a different level to the rudimentary Android one. And I am missing my HTC browser - that seems a bit smoother, and the text reflow is more reliable, the stock browser seems a bit temperamental on that front.
Other than that, I can live without all the other Sense stuff. So my next question is, can the dialler and browser be installed on my new rom? Do they have any dependencies which would prevent me using them? How would I go about ripping the apps from the HTC rom? I'm an ADB noob so I need some kind expert to tell me how
