Ok, so it goes like this.. Basically, everytime I plug my phone into my laptop via charger, the controls become erratic like unresponsive touch gestures, me having to repeatedly touch the same spot before it recognizes. I usually use my phone to tether wireless networks. Oh, it also does this on other roms. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

Take a look at the micro connection on your HTC cable.there's a thread in the evo forum explaining problems with it shorting.

Are you using the cable that came with the phone? I know if I try to use certain brands cables I get a range of problems. Motorola cable for example give the same symptoms you have. When I tried a friends LG cable my phone started randomly opening apps and resending texts.

Yeah, I'm using the charger that came with the Aria. It didn't use to do this, but it just happened one day. What I don't get though, is if I put it on charge in the wall, everything's fine and nothing weird happens. Eh, I just don't know.

It's possible the cable got bent a weird way at some point and caused a short in the cable. When you use the wall charger it doesn't use the data pins on the cable so if the short is in the data pins, that might explain why it only happens when connected to a computer.
I'd definitely try a different USB cable. If you don't have another micro-USB cable on hand, I'd suggest buying one of these: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5458&seq=1&format=2
Even if it doesn't fix the problem, it's super cheap and will be useful just to have a spare.
I've had the same problem with an aftermarket charger as someone else had mentioned. However, I believe the cable itself was not the issue but the wall-pack itself.
My theory is that is has to do with the power quality. In my case, the cheap aftermarket ac/dc adapter. In your case, the usb power supply on your laptop.

This is in continuation to this thread.
I believe that we should demand a recall from HTC of their junky chargers. As of a couple days ago, my charger stopped working. In order to get it to charge my phone, I need to unplug and plug in my phone 20-40 times and get the physics of the connection PERFECT... if my phone moves 1mm, it will stop charging, so I need to have the phone somewhere that it will not move...
This is not the case with my Car Charger, so I know it is simply the phone charger itself that comes with HTC... they supplied us with $0.10 charger cables to save money, and we should demand a higher quality cable be supplied to us after buying their "Flagship Device"
Anyone else experiencing this problem?
Yes. My charging/USB cable has gotten loose. The Radio Shack one I bought with the phone works great. I doubt a cable recall will occur, however.
Yes mine does the same thing and I HATE it. I thought I was the only one

Surprised nobody suggested a class action yet...
Apple did something similar, so this might work.
I had an iphone, and got a notice that I needed to get a new wall plug due to defects in the ones that were released with the iPhone. So my new wall plug had a bright green dot on it to indicate it was new.
HTC could do something similar, couldn't they?
Wait, are you complaining about the charger plug or the USB cable? Replacement cables are, like, a nickel on EBay. Or you can get an adapter and use your old micro USB cables.
If it's the charger itself, you may get some sympathy from OEMs, but I wouldn't even waste the stamp (or email) for a cable. Just my opinion, of course.
both me and my buddies cables have done the same thing their super weak
I took a chance and bought 3 (I have 3 EVO's) of these adapters:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.36150 - works perfectly.
Now all my BB and old phone chargers work - Take that HTC!
Mule
It's weird. I also have charging issues, here they are:
1. Occasionally, after charging for a period of time on the home charger, the EVO will light up and stop charging. I check the battery info and temperature is in the 20s, so i know that it's not a temperature issue. Then, after about 30 seconds or a minute, it will light up again and continue charging. I never touch the charging cable or connection and it does it on its own.
2. Using the car charger, the EVO seemingly decides that it doesn't like the connection. When i plug in the charger, the EVO will begin to charge, then after two or three seconds, go back to discharge mode. It takes me pulling the plug and reinserting (into the cig lighter port, not the EVO) anywhere from 3-100 times to get it to accept the charge demand.

Exactly what I have. My wife and I can share one plug, she with her Hero and me with my Evo.
I don't even use the OEM one, I use my Treo Pro chargers and have not ran into an issue. The OEM just sits on my desk...I have had my EVO since launch date.
Treo pro OEM chargers are fairly cheap now.
Just my 2 cents.

Then pins that hold the cable get pushed in when this happens you dont get a good connection. I have seen a few come in to my shop. usually give them a cable I have laying around. Leads me to wonder what others are doing differently. I havent had any issues with either of my chargers and I will test and play games with it plugged up so I know I put a little stress on it.

It's not the charger it's the port. There was a bad batch and it was fixed. Mine had the same issue and I couldn't charge my phone.
I just wanted to share my story so that others might learn from it. You will read in almost every thread about flashing via ODIN, one-click rooting, etc. that if you have any issues you should try a different cable. You might also read in various threads about how the stock Samsung cable is a piece of garbage, yada yada yada.
I heeded that advice long ago and replaced my Samsung cable with some quality and yet inexpensive cables from monoprice.com and went about my flashing/rooting way.
Flash forward a year. Gingerbread started leaking and after a long time of being on midNIGHT my flashing/rooting activities started to pick up again. After some initial success I noticed that my ODIN flashes started taking longer and longer and that the percentage of successful flashes was falling. I chalked it up to leaky Gingerbread.
It started getting worse and worse and at one point I thought I had bricked my Epic. That when I noticed that my cable was no longer attaching to the phone with that satisfying snap. It was easily sliding in and out. It had started doing this after I had inadvertently pulled the cable and the phone fell off the table. So I went and grabbed another cable, fired up ODEN and voila... ODEN raced through the flash like The Flash and I was up and running on the leak of the day.
So let that be a lesson to you. You may read "try another cable" over and over and store it in the back of your mind but never really know what the symptoms are that would lead you to know that it's time to do so. Hopefully my story may add some color to those simple instructions and maybe, just maybe you might save your Epic like I did!
I completely agree...but for some reason the stock cable hasn't failed me. Never. If you take good care of them, I don't see why not use them.
Stock cable never failed me either but I just received BB cable from amazon for 2.50 and the quality difference is very noticable.
The stock cable fails on my wife's epic but not mine. Same with her cable. I have since been using my old palm pre's cable and even it's wall charge adapter. It works for both of our phones.
I wonder if the reason is due partly to the cable and partly to the port itself.
Stock cable never failed me either, but I copped 3 BB cables in case **** happens!

Stock cable never failed me either and I flash a bit more than most. The funny thing is the cable that came with my Moto Finiti Bluetooth is twice as thick and fits much more snug. The stock cable works but they could have included a better quality one for a phone that was considered top tier at the time.

Blackberry cables are a bit too sturdy for this phone. I have 2 and recently I've had to revert to the Sammy cable because the bb cable won't maintain a snug connection. This happened to me and the phone constantly drops the connection if the wire is even budged a bit. Went back to the Sammy cable and all is good. Of cource I use the bb cable for flashing and just keep it really still lol

The OP speaks the truth. I can odin with the stock cable anymore so I've been using the one that cam with the gf's G2 and it works like a charm till I wear it out too.
My intent was not to disparage the Samsung cable. Mine was great for quite a while. I just wanted to let people know some symptoms that might point to a bad cable. I haven't tried the BlackBerry cables but the ones at monoprice.com fit well and work great. Until of course they fly across the room with the phone attached and get bent.

It also not very good idea to use cheap charger as it could damage your battery, or even worse your phone.
I suppose HTC chargers use usb data lines to tell if it's really is an htc charger which is connected.
I use 2 chargers for my DHD. Orignal HTC charger+cable which i leave in the office as i do most of my charging there, and spare iphone charger + motorola micro-USB cable (from my old Moto Razr V3) at home. both work flawlessly.
but before this, i used the original HTC cable with some el-cheapo USB charger, and whenever I use that, the touchscreen is not working properly. not responding to touch and moves by itself. Another thing i noticed is that the phone was grounded, i can feel that very slight current that is not there when the phone is not charging.
so sure, its a charger issue, and chances are, the line is not grounded properly.
I use original charger and Samsung Galaxy Ace charger and they both work fine...
I just got my charger yesterday and it doesn't seem to charge properly. I put it on and it'll charge maybe 10% then stop. Take it off and put it back on the charger and it won't start charging unless I unplug the cable from the back of the orb and plug it back in. This is very inconvenient and I'm wondering if the orb just sucks or is it just mine? Please give me input if you have the official wireless charging orb.
Also I've only tried on the 2 latest releases of Paranoid android rom with their kernel as well as Faux latest one. Gonna flash something closer to stock and let it run over night and see what happens

I dont have this issue, knock on wood. Mine charges to 99%, then slowly to 100% and then stops the LED, I turn the screen on to see the % and its charging again.
I am not sure how the LED's are displayed, does the LED off mean its done charging and is on battery now?
In either case, Once I see its at 100% and the LED is off, i remove it from the orb, it soon drops to 99%, 98% but stabilizes.
Ya I don't have that issue , mine charges to 100 then stops drops down to 98 then starts charging agn to 100... If I was u I would install factory IMG get it 100% stock and see what happens if u get same results , ID send in for warranty , i like the orb but hate how its not recognized as a charging dock, Romanbb ( aokp) is writing code to change this tho

I had the same issue until some bright person told me that the wall plug was a different ampage than the wall plug that came with the N4. 1.2 amps as opposed to 1.8. This made the difference to the problem you are having for me. What are you using in the socket?
Unfortunately the problem I am having now with this Orb (and another Qi wireless charger that I purchased as I thought the Orb was faulty) is that the N4 will turn off n the middle of the night. Not good when you are relying on the alarm clock!!!
In using the cable and plug that orb came with. Which are you using? The cable and plug that the phone came with? And that's fixed your issue except for the turning off?
