[Q] Dx Roms on D2? - Droid 2 General

Hi, ive been reading some forums and guides and i guess theres a way to port dx roms to the d2?
if im on the gb leak rom and pull up bootstrap recovery to install one of theses roms would it work?

If you look at the following thread, they talk about doing just that. Supposedly it works (although there is some sort of patch that needs to be applied).

[Q] A little help needed

you'll have to forgive if this is posted elsewhere but i haven't found it if it is, I'm new to this scene as i used to be used to the old apple stuff where i was quite happy jailbreaking etc. but now i have a nexus s and i'm quite happy with it and i've updated it to 2.3.3 no problems,
but now i'm a little confused/unsure. I am happy with the stock firmware but i'd like diffrent themes having looked around i see that to install them i need to install the CM7 rom but I've seen various roms some that need rooting and some that seem not to.
I've also seen a 2.3.3 rom thats a stock deodexed rom and a deodexed-voodoo-root rom. But whats the diffrence and which do i need etc.
sorry to sound like a complete idiot but this is all new to me and i'm trying to learn and get the best out of my phone, all advice is welcome
First off, all 3rd party ROMs will require root to "flash" (the android term for installing). You'll find a lot of information about all the ROMs, themes and kernels currently available for the NS here but the short answer to your question is that a deodexed rom is one which can be themed. If it has Voodoo, Netarchy, Trinity, or Honity listed what is being referred to is a custom kernel.
I'm also assuming you're not currently rooted and on that previous link you'll find a list of almost all of the rooting methods currently available (save for SuperBoot...I think I omitted that one by accident). Basically, all of the info you need is on that thread and if you have other questions I'm happy to help you but for now I think I've answered most everything.

[Q] downgrading and upgrading roms

I have been reading up on droid x roms and was wondering if i were to start iut on a gb build and wanted to use a froyo rom do i have to sbf to 2.2 and the other way around also
sorry if this is a dumb question im coming from droid 1 which is almost too easy to change roms
Yes you would have to SBF back. Send me a pm if you need instructions

[Q] best way to prepare rooted 2.2 for custom roms

I have a droid 2 and i'm using it as a wifi-only phone because I don't wanna pay 85 a month to never talk on it or use mobile data.
I've already rooted it and installed ClockworkModRecovery, what would be the best upgrade path to a custom rom? I see something about sbf's and gingerbread and the information seems rather scattered. I cant even figure out which roms are still actively used...Last time I rooted a phone it was an Optimus V.
I appreciate any help I can get.
it says android version 2.2
system version is 2.3.20.a955
(oh and if there is a better guide out there for this that i missed lemme know, im only posting this after spending 2 days trying to figure this out with little luck)
Here's a list of active ROMs. If you need more help let us know.

welcome to the NIGHTMARE
you should look at S. U. R. F. A. C. E Rom thread. the Rom is very nice and he has very good tutorials for beginners!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Well, first of all, the latest roms are not always the best ones. Since gingerbread 2.3.4, we've had in sequence: JVQ, JVR, JVS, JVT and now JVX, JVW and JVZ.
However, many still consider JVR to be smoother and more stable than the newer ones. Then, there is also the wifi problem on JVS and above.
Similarly, there is the infamous phone.apk force close problem on all these roms, which was not present on gingerbread 2.3.3.
But gingerbread 2.3.3 had serious battery drain issues, which weren't present on Froyo roms.
So, here's what you need to know as a beginner:
-The latest roms and custom roms give you the advantage of theming, modding and tweaking, all of which are very fun and exciting. Seriously. I used to flash my galaxy s multiple times a day.
-But the smoothest, lag free roms are the Froyo 2.2.1 roms. Stick with those if you want stability and speed. After all, gingerbread doesn't have any important extra functionalities. But, froyo roms lack support for latest tweaks and themes.
So, if you're happy with your current rom, there is no actual need to change it.
But, if you are really keen on trying other roms before settling down, you need to be able to flash roms. To do that, you'll need to:
1) Install Samsung Kies to get the samsung usb drivers
2) Download odin 1.3 or above
3) Download the rom of your choice and follow their flashing instructions
4) To be safe, download a froyo stock rom and a gingerbread stock rom with bootloaders just in case you need to revert to stock
5) To be even safer, perform the unbrickable mod on your phone first, though the SGS is pretty hard to hard brick anyway.

[Q] CG Version of Kernels

Hello everyone. I have some questions about the different Kernels and ROMs running around. All the information is completely scattered throughout the forums, and it became almost impossible to get proper info.
I like to be sure about what I'm doing, and currently, I haven't been able to do much.
FYI, I have searched a lot on the forums, and everytime I find a pertinent info, the discussion mixes up discussions about different roms and kernels, or just assumes I know stuff I do not.
My first question is: How can I get know what is the CG version of a Kernel? Right now I'm running CM 7.2, under Froyo Kernel (used the stock one), and I want to be able to reverse everything I do.
Second question: I know there are lots of different CM versions out there, from Quarx, Epsylon, etc... what are their repositories, and what kernels do they use?
Thank you in advance.
Read this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
All the custom rom: CM7, MS2ginger,MIUI... Use froyo kernel
If you want flash GB SBF, use only Nandroid and fixed SBF... Never flash full GB SBF
I have read it, that's what taught me about CG versions, However many ROMs requests a specific kernel, such as CM7 Kernel, Defy+ Kernel, and so on... not sure if I understood if right, but isn't changing the kernel what can change the CG version?
So because of that, I have not messed with anything that requires a different kernel, I have no idea on how to be sure of the CG version of anything
More infos there :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
All CM7 have CG = 4, CM7/CM9 Defy+ are only for Defy+ user and don't have kernel inside and use the original GB kernel CG = 5 or 6...
Thank you! The first few lines of the link already showed me how to find the CG version, exactly what I wanted!
if i knew, i wouldnt flash a full GB SBF.
now that i did it, what can i do?

currently not much I believe. eppsylon3 also got stuck - not able to downgrade again.
perhaps we just have to wait until our devs break the damn bootloader
so we are stuck in this, right?
please devs, HELP US
btw, it stays in motorola logo, a blue led shows, then a green led, then it disappears.
what can I do to make it work again?
