Hi all,
I've searched but I think my answers are lost in the void of a 5000 page long thread!
All I want to know is, in simple terms, what can I expect to be different flashing with a rom that enables 576mb ram?
I'm currently using a slightly older version of CleanEX (1.54 I believe) which is based on 1.72 and doesn't enable any extra ram. I'm using a 2.09 radio which again wouldn't enable it.
I like the combination I have now, but it's been a few weeks since I last flashed and well... I'm craving some modding!
I've been very happy with the CleanEX series rom, it's fast/stable and doesn't detract much from a stock 6.5 stock rom at all, only fixes its bugs. Chances are I'd flash with the newer 4.28 CleanEX rom and a newer 2.10 radio which enables the extra ram.
Thanks in advance!
no difference. things don't run faster with more ram you can just do more at the same time, however the leo is tough to max out the ram anyway.
slight correction... the 2.09.50radio will unlock the ram.. any radio with .50. in the version will.(assuming the correct rom too)

For example,
576 RAM gives the apporunity to enable a 32mb filesystem cache.

Thank you kindly.
Before I upgrade to Froyo 2.2, I have 326mb, but now only has 304mb displaying under Task Manager.
I saw some people said they have 339mb. Is that because they have different ROM?
Yes. Jpu is 2.2.1 and has 339mb.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Different kernels are tweaked to give you more ram, on JPO hardcore had his kernel to allow 342mb of RAM. But now JPU is out he has changed it to Samsung default settings which allow 339mb of ram.
Thanks guys. I might flash to JPU or JPO then.
JPO doesn't give you 342MB of RAM.
Hardcore's kernel SpeedMod does.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
XXJPU - 339MB
Normal Froyo 305MB
Why cant we use all 512 ram?
I also have 339.
Sent from my GT-I9000, darky's 5.6, using XDA App
XXJPX shows 339MB
The really odd thing I have found is that TWLauncher leaves me with 220 out of the 339 and yet Gingerbread Launcher leaves me up to 280
I just found that the new firmware have a BIG GLITCH : No more 1gb of ram like froyo roms...
380MB Of ram, exactly 380 576 kb... I dont know if its a kernel problem or build related
Look on system info with Setcpu
EDIT:
I HAVE SOME IDEAS FOR FIXING THE RAM ISSUE
1. Find some Telstra or other provider unlocked bootloader. Maybe its an issue with our pudding from t-mobile uk build
2. Flash the stock kernel from the T-MOBILE UK LEAKED GINGERBREAD build
3. PATIENCE
4. Find and flash new radios ( we never know..)
Other ideas ? PM me
EDIT 2:
BTW, I am on KP's Gingerbread 4.5.91, FAUX's kernel and 1.77.15P Stock Bell Radio
I am also
382488KB

OMG how did you get that much memory? I am stuck at 69mb
same issue here.
i've got 288 used 399 free just ota 2.3.4 upgrade.
You guys tried using fastreboot?
we may need the radio from the 2.3.4 orange rom they used to get our bootloader... anyone know where this is?

Same here, I only have 25 MB free and my phone is dog-slow, I am assuming that would be why... Even just got the Low memory warning...
I assume this is happening to international users. I'm on 2.3.4 and have more than 420MB free all day with regular use.
My free memory is low also, total memory is aa little low too. Could it be setcpu not reporting correctly??
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
it seems that the problem is only for international users. you have more than 800mb of total memory and its good. International users and me have about 380mb of total memory and i dont know why we have this problem

I am seeing this too. All I've done so far was flash the unlockable sbf. Haven't unlocked it yet.
So it is something that happens as soon as we flash the SBF... Anyone know what exactly happens when we do that? could it be a change that was done to the build.prop file?
Sorry but its a probleme off setcpu
You can try download android info and see. I GOT 880 memory ram

In my case, I am also getting the warning from the android OS that I am low on memory, and the phone is slower then a stock Xperia X10...
EDIT: I also tried Android Info, and it lists the same amount of RAM as SetCPU 380576...
Dear Devs,
It has been a puzzle to me since I switch to Andoid ( a year back) from Win 6.5 and WP7.
I have an HD2 EU versions and has been flashing Android ROM (MUIU, Sense and AOSP versions, thanks to all the Rom Chefs for that, I'm enjoying it currently ). But the problem is that Win 6.5 and WP7 recognized my HD2 EU has 576 ram (becuase I unlocked it using T-Mobile Radio) but always shows 411-412 on any Android Rom, I have searched the forum and I have not find any logical reason why.
Some reasons are below.
1. Magldr take some of it, but MAG is using ROM not the RAM, why becuase it's being saved and loaded everytime the phone is turned off/on. RAM should be cleared once he device is off.
2. Some say Android only supports up to 411 MB ram, I don't beleived it becuase what's the point? New devices like EVO has 700++RAM and EVO 3d has 1GB of RAM.
3. Some says becuase of the H/W acceleration, my question is how, doest it mean when I flash with glitch fix (thanks haldric for that) which does disable the H/W acceleration free's up the memory, but not it is still showing 411 on my current runny 1.8 from Dungphp. (thanks Dung).
So, please can you please help me with this dillema? Sense Task manager always shows 411 and if I flashed it with cyphol kernel (thanks cyphol), it will show 404 as total.
Thanks in advance......
Hi OP, I'm not sure where to put this thread but I think I'm in the right forum. If not kindly move it.
It's because the rest goes to GPU 128MB and the rest is RAM 448 aproximatly
Good point.....Wrong place
dont think u r the only one thinking in that
How does the 128mb allocated to Gpu or may i say when does?

It is something we kernel devs can change. Trust me you'll like better as is.

This had been asked quite a few times, please search the Q&A forum- I too had the same question, and found the answers there several times over
Swyped from my HTC HD2 running CM7 (Gingerbread 2.3.7)
Today we will move to semaphore kernel 2.5.0 bigmem.
Now choose stock color or voodoo color. I can't start a poll on rom thread. You say your ideas here.
A few mb more ram to break 720 recording.. Dont really see why any1 would want to do this.. Since this rom already have alot of free ram and its using the 80LMK which ensure that we always have 80 mb free.. How much ram does the games eat?
due to my experience,
i'd say that stock color would be less problematic,
and it looks just as fine , so (+1) for stock

So in reality, bm dont help anything at all with performance in gaming, but it breaks a feature on the phone..

Thank you for ideas. I will test two versions with gaming. Now normal version has 337 mb ram. I will test it if it's enough for current games.

done flashing ser but i flash the semaphore kernel jvu 2.5.0beta.tar..or should i flash the semaphore 2.5.0.tar? or semaphore 2.5.0bm.tar or semaphore 2.5.0sc.tar? sir buraknon i really need to know..thanks in advance..
Startosk released 2.5.0 stock color + bigmem for us! YEAH!
I think you should keep bigmem kernel, as this rom is mainly focused on gaming and RAM management. If anybody really needs 720p rec, regular version can be flashed within seconds. And even better, I have both versions in the SD and if I want to record 720p (only once a month or so) I can flash regular version on the go with SGS kernel flasher and in a couple of minutes the SGS is ready to do that.
