How much RAM you have on your SGS? - Galaxy S I9000 General

Before I upgrade to Froyo 2.2, I have 326mb, but now only has 304mb displaying under Task Manager.
I saw some people said they have 339mb. Is that because they have different ROM?

Yes. Jpu is 2.2.1 and has 339mb.

Different kernels are tweaked to give you more ram, on JPO hardcore had his kernel to allow 342mb of RAM. But now JPU is out he has changed it to Samsung default settings which allow 339mb of ram.

Thanks guys. I might flash to JPU or JPO then.

JPO doesn't give you 342MB of RAM.
Hardcore's kernel SpeedMod does.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756

XXJPU - 339MB
Normal Froyo 305MB

Why cant we use all 512 ram?

I also have 339.
Sent from my GT-I9000, darky's 5.6, using XDA App

XXJPX shows 339MB

The really odd thing I have found is that TWLauncher leaves me with 220 out of the 339 and yet Gingerbread Launcher leaves me up to 280

Kernal for jvp

Which kernal are you guys using for jvp.
Could you answer the following:
1.quadrant score on third run with and without ext4
2.extra support eg.sharpness fix bln etc?
3.does everything work with it, no bugs?stable?
4.custom rom or stock?
Thanks, need some help making my mind up.
First (everytime such a thread comes up)! Its your decision!!
I recommend Semaphore Kernel which is based on Chainfire's initram.ds and has voodoo sound v9, OC/UV (up to 1.2Ghz) and runs flawlessly on JVH,JVO and JVP (on every ROM/Stock FW)
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I also recommed semaphore kernel.
I also recommend semaphore kernel...
my quadrank score on third run with OC to 1.2 Ghz and Ext 4 is 2756
even without any custom kernel, 2.3.4 rocks the quadrant!!
alng with this, u get Voodoo V9

Now I´m going to try semaphore kernel, all the people said this kernel it´s awesome.
I always prefer the stock roms
dark core is pretty nice too, has lagfix, voodoo 9 and everything.
Thanks guys think I will give semaphore a go, so many recommendations. Jvp is a great leap forward in rom development for our galaxy.not sure about overclocking at the moment, feel like I dont need it. btw currently on ramads deodexed jvp with cfroot and juwes ram script.

for now semaphore kernel
Actually stock and supercurio's kernel are the only ones with fixed autobrightness but you have to leave overclock, sharpness fix, voodoo sound etc. With supercurio's you get ext4 lagfix + hacks, this is my choice, waiting for a fixed dark core 2.x.

Choosing the right kernel

Hi all,
My Galaxy S i9000 will arrive tomorrow and I'd like to be prepared how to and which kernel to flash.
I'll probably just flash JVQ, the latest official Gingerbread 2.3.4 ROM. But I can't decide which kernel to use. My main priority is the performance and safety (by this I mean recovery options).
I have found two kernels which might fit my needs.
First of all SpeedMod Gingerbread. It has EXT4 lagfix and sound improvements etc. It seems good to me.
There are no instructions for this one, but my guess is to just flash the .tar with ODIN as PDA?
Second I have found CF-Root. There are clear instructions so I don't need help how to, but is this a good option as a kernel?
What kernel do you think is the best for the Gingerbread ROM JVQ?
Also, what about CWM? How do I boot into this recovery? Does it replace the default recovery?
Sorry for the noob questions, but as you see I'm quiet uncertain about these things, though I've read alot.
Thanks
Stock JVQ ?
Why won't you flash a custom ROM ? For example you could install Insanity's, Darky's, etc... which are sort of "packages" containing everything you are looking for.
Each one of them have a specific forum in Dev, with flashing explanations.
As for kernels, if I ever needed to change, I'd go for Glitch.
I would wait and use cf root when its released and if your not happy with the speed then use an oc kernal.there are many packages that will be available for all the mods you want in the themes section.this way you will be as close to stock as possible avoiding any unwanted issues
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I've considered Darky's 10.1, but I dunno, I don't like the green colors and everything.
Insanity and glitch look cool. I must have overlooked this ROM, I might consider it. Thanks for the tip
Stock with CF-Root seems to be the fastest in Quadrant. I'm in doubt.
bro i think u have to keep Cf-root i install jvq and put Speedmod in it but u cant image it doesnot contain Superuser and cmw after that i install Cf-root it really better then speedmod this time not always.........i hope u can go with cf root
Have you considered other kernels like Semaphore, Galaxian or Talon?
All of these have OC/UV capabilities, EXT 4 and more performance tweaks than CF-Root itself.
Speedmod is currently undergoing major developments (less stable versions being tested). You can wait until it has a stable version before flashing.
And you can buy Voodoo control plus if you want great sound.
I know Talon has Voodoo sound v9 built in. So, take your pick
For stock JVQ I recommend to use stock kernel until the custom kernels have updated JVQ initframs.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I'll look intro Talon. I won't overclock my device as I want it too last as long as possible The Voodoo stuff seems interesting. Would it work if I just flashed it over CF-Root? Guess not. I would have to flash the stock kernel and then Talon again?
With the latest stock JVQ I'm getting 1400 score in Quadrant, kinda low. I'm now attempting to convert to ext4, but the system folder has too less space, trying to move some apps.
Edit:
With everything converted to ext4 I now have 2300, that's better I'll leave it like this I think. I'm fine. Thanks for the tips
In that case i would recommend to use Talon 0.3.1 without OC.
try galaxian kernel for jvp and feel the speed...

yep, use Stock JVQ 2.3.4 (not deodexed! many errors: phone and browser fcs) and galaxian kernel.
My SGS is flying with that combination
damian kernel flies with jvq and has what you want scores of 3500 to 3700

Quadrant Samsung Galaxy S

Hello evetyone, i've flashed extraordinary ICS ROM with Semaphore Kernel, and I notice that with my last ROM (Darky's) the result was 2000-2200 and now it dropped to 1800. Should i come back to the other rom or is this normal and i stay with this?
Quadrant is nothing. Don't trust it, those numbers doesn't mean anything at all is it 1 or is it 99999... you should care how your phone acts,is it laggy ,or blazing fast. I had rom where i scored about 1400,but it wasn't any diffrent from darkys in terms of speed.Don't use quadrant to check is yor phone fast,it doesn't show that good!!
If you are worried, convert to ext4, I run stock jvt on semaphore 1.8.1 with tweaks and get 2800+ at 1ghz
More important is the fact its very fast and stable

Thanks, i changed to Darky because while i was restoring with titanium every installation was slower than ever. Thank you very much

Worst reason to not use a new ROM ever.
And just so you know, Titanium Backup has a batch feature (Menu > Batch), so you could have just set it to install all your backups and let it do it's thing.
Quadrant score are just wierd no.s nothing else. i use doctors rom. Its butter smooth and i just forgot the meaning of the word 'Lag'.

Quadrant is probably the worst way to compare different devices, but it's pretty much the only way we have. A bit like the benchmark programs for computers (*cough*3DMark*cough*).

My score is 3995 with tornado rom, and kernel. Converted to ext2 tho, system file system is on rfs.

Over clocked to 1.2GHz . Just updated to a newer game kernel and the score was 4440 on quandrant.
Cm7 + Glitch kernel 1200mhz + Acid tweaks

I get 3200+ on Quadrant with 1.2GHz OC Stock JVT with Semaphore so don't believe in Quadrant scores they mean nothing.

New roms and lagfix

Hello,
I heard that the new roms (JVS, JVT) don't need lagfix anymore. Is that true ? Can anyone confirm that ?
Thanks.
works fine here. just free up some space on your System partition.
I always apply lagfix as I think everything goes smoother that way. Anyway the difference is not so noticeable with the last firmwares (JVS, JVT). You can live without it.
Thanks pals ...
but can anybody confirm that Samsung really did something to improve the RFS file system and conversion to ext4 is no longer necessary ?
I used a lagfix and speed looks like slower then before
there is a noticable change betwen
1) jv1 - first gb leak
2) first official gingerbread firmwares
3) and last 2.3.5 = jvs jvt and following two carrier firmwares
what i mean by 'noticable change' is that with
150+ apps installed and well over 1 month 'old' system
i do not see such speed/responsivness decrease over time as i saw with point 1 & 2 firmwares
i haave not performed any in-dept speed tests, i do not play games (birds only=), i just use the smartphone

I'd go further. After months of compulsive custom rom flashing I now run JVT stock + semaphore kernel on RFS with ADW ex launcher and a daily cache cleaner. The performance gains from heavy customisation and changing the filesystem (applying a lagfix) just aren't there for me any more.
Been on stock for weeks now and won't be flashing again until a newer stock is leaked or a stable ICS rom is available
This seems to be the case with all galaxy s phones getting 2.3.5, they all seem to be running much smoother.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I previously tried JVT without lagfix but it didn't perform well on the games that I play.
I Swyped this on my Galaxy S
I didn't get any lags since in ZSJPE(2.2.1)
It just depends, when you get lags, lagfix it. If you don't, it's not necessary.

GamerzRom v1.7.0 Semaphore Kernel (Voodoo Color vs Stock Color) VOTE NOW!

Today we will move to semaphore kernel 2.5.0 bigmem.
Now choose stock color or voodoo color. I can't start a poll on rom thread. You say your ideas here.
A few mb more ram to break 720 recording.. Dont really see why any1 would want to do this.. Since this rom already have alot of free ram and its using the 80LMK which ensure that we always have 80 mb free.. How much ram does the games eat?
due to my experience,
i'd say that stock color would be less problematic,
and it looks just as fine , so (+1) for stock

So in reality, bm dont help anything at all with performance in gaming, but it breaks a feature on the phone..

Thank you for ideas. I will test two versions with gaming. Now normal version has 337 mb ram. I will test it if it's enough for current games.

Startosk released 2.5.0 stock color + bigmem for us! YEAH!
I think you should keep bigmem kernel, as this rom is mainly focused on gaming and RAM management. If anybody really needs 720p rec, regular version can be flashed within seconds. And even better, I have both versions in the SD and if I want to record 720p (only once a month or so) I can flash regular version on the go with SGS kernel flasher and in a couple of minutes the SGS is ready to do that.
