Unlock sim = bad service? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Seems like after rooting I have had the WORST service with tmo. Not just on my phone but my fiance's and another coworker. All of us are on different roms and service sucks. Throughout the day we all get the no service x for up to 5 min at a time... considering flashing stock to see if that has an effect. Anyone else had that problem or have a solution?
Thanks
G

SIM cards aren't affected by root, all it affects is the phone. Just go to T-Mobile and tell them you want to trade your SIM card. I've had to do this, and had no problems.

I'm on ROM RoyalGlacier v1.3, engineering hboot and my network service, voice, data is great.

[Q]Phone randomly lost signal?

Hey guys, since last night at around 11, I lost all signal from my phone. I've tried rebooting, battery pulls, #*#*4636#*#* and nothing.
I'm currently running royal ginger 1.4.1 with faux's kernel.
any ideas?
nevermind guys! fixed the issue. Turns out, my sim is 6 years old so it finally died on me.
Lol it died? I've had the same similar for 4 years now and it hasn't died. Did you just take it in to the tmo store and they said its a dead sim?

They test it I had one die last month. Free replacements though and they have new ones out that are supposed to run faster and work better on 3g/4g
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Is there anyway to check the life of one's sim card?
When you buy any 3g/4g phone they should have change your sim card out, if they didn't you should go back to tmobile and they should change your sim card without any problem. Just letting everybody know

If you have tried everything else to get it to read, then it might be defective. If you still have s-on then make sure its back to stock and get a replacement from T-Mob.
I had that problem right out of the box, brand new phone and it would not read my SIM so i sent it back for a replacement. i hope i don't have that problem again.
If for any reason it happens again is there anything i can check before i send it back?

take a "PD15IMG.zip" file from another HTC device, the Sensation for example, rename it to PD151IMG.zip and flash via bootloader. not sure if that works...
or, download stock PD15IMG.zip for the MT4G, flash via bootloader, and while it's updating, pull the battery, i heard that works.
tell me how it goes
i believe it's PD15IMG.zip... as in one five, not one five one...
Try flashing a custom rom for other phones like samsung and huawei

+1 i want to know too
what did the tmobile rep tell you?
Tmobile is giving out mt4gs if you turn in the mt4g so I will have mine tomorrow and going to the slide world
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Getting the Slide is an option. They are still sending out regular replacement 4G's. I've got one out for delivery to me today.
But you can opt to take a Slide instead. (Not the Sensation though...nooooo...couldn't have that.) Must mean the Slide sales aren't stellar next to the Sensation sales.
Or, you know, you could tell them the truth.
If I tell them I just wanna swap my 4g for a slide will they do it

lol i bricked
This prob they first and last time I'll be happy about bricking my phone
Well the 4G slide is great just one thing I miss about the mytouch 4G are the great developers. On 4G slide forum, we have undeadk9 as I believe our only true devloper but there are some other rods that I'm a little skeptical about. LOL we don't even have a kernel... Not that I would want it overclock this beast anyway

Did they give you the slide for free? Or did you have to pay the deductible?
And also, what will T-Mobile accept as warrantable? I have the so called "bad screen"
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Depends
If you call with a bad screen you will get another mytouch but what I did was I bricked my phone (on purpose) then said that one day my phone won't turn on or charge. Then they offered me a slide. For free. Everything was free but if you want overnight shipping. Cough up some mula

[Q] Quick question

I hope this isn't a dumb question. But from what I understand when you have S-off do you have access to all the networks around you? Or are you still bound by your carrier? Thanks! and sorry if this has been answered before I tried searching S-off and other stuff but couldn't really find what I was looking for.
Call T-Mobile tell them yore going out of the country and they will send you the code.
I think it's that easy and I used different carriers in,Hong Kong,Mexico and the Philippines.
But that's with sim cards from those countries.

Gfree root method will give you sim unlock which is what you are looking for

If you mean connecting to any network without being on their service...no you can't. that's illegal.

It's not illegal. It's called "roaming" and costs A LOT $$$.
To the OP:
S-OFF gives you the ability to flash anything to your phone's ROM (internal non-volatile memory). It doesn't have anything to do with cellular connectivity.
SIM unlock gives you the ability to use other carriers' SIM cards in your phone. It can be achieved through a part of the same rooting process that achieves S-OFF.
The quote below will guide your search:

Is there any way to make my phone go into roaming manually so tmo will cancel my contract? I've been wondering if this is possible for awhile now. My wife and I are very sick of getting throttled every month, but don't want to change plans and have them extend our contract again.

MT4G to Simple Mobile

hey everyone, my brother just bought a mt4g and it was rooted (running miui). he wants to use it on simple mobile but just sticking a sim in there wouldnt work.
I have an epic 4g and know that its best to have the phone on stock (or at least stock rom) when trying to activate it, but i had problmes getting it back to stock.
is there anything fancy i gotta do first to get it to work? he hasnt actually bought the simple mobile sim card yet but he tried a friends and it didnt work. do i have to unlock it or something?
This phone takes a particular SIM card. We get posts on here all the time saying SIMs don't work. When they compare the contact surfaces of one that works to the one that doesn't the difference is obvious. Tell simple what phone you have and ask if it takes a special SIM.
