Hi i am new here and to new to android . I want to flash my xperia x10 form the stock software to 2.2 or higher. I have read most of the guides and am still unsure which rom and baseband to use. I am running Ubuntu 10.
thanks
I would suggest Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3, it's fast and stable, and looks nice =)
It is also easy to install since it needs baseband .54, which you can get it from the .435 stock firmware directly.

i would have to agree that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 would be the rom of choice. It is super stable and quite fast too.
You will need to root your phone, and then install xRecovery. Then you can install ROMS from the xRecovery menu.
Root using superoneclick and then copy the xRecovery APK to your phone and install it. Download the ROM files and copy them to your SD card, reboot into xRecovery and follow the ROM installation steps (backup all your stuff on your phone first - i suggest My Backup Root (from the market) - provided you have rooted it already). If you want to try different basebands, i have included a link for them too.
As for doing all this from ubuntu - i think you will need to be running a Windows VM or find another pc that has Windows installed, i tried from Ubuntu myself but it was just easier from a Winblows machine.

I'm also kind of a noob, but I really want to make this stuff work...
I took this thread as a base, I currently have the 2.1 official update on my X10. So far I used the superclick tool and it said it rooted my phone (how can I make sure it worked?)
Then I downloaded the stuff and run the xRecovery app, it said it granted some superuser thing, but then I see nothing else...
Any help appreciated, specially if I skipped some steps maybe?
if you want to check if you are rooted, intall titanium backup and see if the app runs. If it does, then you've got root.
I didnt get what you wanted to ask in the second part of your question though..
I was missing an app from the market
Ok I got it working
So far I'm testing this new stuff...woah, amazing.
Any recommendations of things (ROMs) I should try?
p.s. I got no signal and WiFi won't turn on... I guess this is normal?

Second that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 is one of the most complete 2.2 roms. But you'll want to look up post on how to:
- root your phone
- install xRecovery (requires busybox), and how to use it
In case if you "brick" your phone or get stuck in a boot loop, look up for "flashtool".
Hope this helps.

WIFI, camera and everything else works great for me. Except for the camcoder, it's got a bit of audio sync problem if not using the right setting.

How do you get it to the right setting? and someone told me it drains your battery. is this true?
Yes battery life isn't that great but acceptable for me.
~24 hours under medium usage
~12-15 hours under heavy use
You need to have your focus setting set to infinity to have better audio sync.
To be honest I don't think the camcorder is up to average user's standard, but camera works just fine.
Things I like from this rom are:
- improved performance (very few lags, things run much smoother than stock 2.1 especially when texting)
- android 2.2 apps & features (gmail 2.3, flash, JIT...)
- no random reboots
- the unlock slider does not lag after the screen is off for awhile
Known issues to my knowledge:
- incomplete camcorder
- no live wallpaper
In case you haven't noticed tho, devs here have figured out a way to bypass x10's bootloader. This will enable us to load custom kernels.
All the roms here before the breakthrough are only built on top of the stock 2.1 kernel. That's causing some limitations in developing custom roms (issues such as having a working driver for x10 camera)
So if u can wait for a bit I'm sure there will be better roms (with android 2.3) coming in the next couple months! And Sony has announced there will be official 2.3 upgrade coming possibly during this summer.
However I've been using wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 for over a month now, would really recommend it if ur not that into video recording lol

We've gotten alot of response from the Desire community so thank you all for your help. At this time we do not need any more testers for the desire. BootManager should be updated with support for the Htc Desire in the next few days. The app currently won't support rom's that use apps2sd and data2sd but our team is working on getting support for those as well. Thanks.
Hey guys my team has developed an app called bootmanager which went into the market today. The app let's you install rom's to your sdcard and boot between them. I had originally done an inc only version here that used your recovery for installing rom's. The new app installs the rom's directly through the app and then let's you boot between them. Anyway on to the point of this post...i'm looking for 1 or 2 beta testers to add support for the desire. You'll need a little knowledge of adb, root of course, and just a little bit of patience. So far has worked pretty well on every htc device wev'e tried so I'm confident we can add support for the desire as well. You can get a little more info about the app from the link in my sig or looking at it in the market. If your interested pm me so I can get the info needed for the desire(.i.e partition sizes and a few other things that i'll tell you how to find in adb) and I'll send the apk for you to try. Thanks for your help....
Very interesting app! Would hboot have to be compatible (ie right size) with all the installed roms or as they are installed to SD does it not matter?

by hboot your refferring to the bootloader? This doesn't change the bootloader. It makes img's on your sdcard which hold your system/data/cache files for the rom, then it edits the boot.img for that rom to point to those img's when booting. Then the app flashes the boot.img for the rom you want to boot too.
I would be very interested in trying this out as I pretty much change my ROM on a daily to weekly basis haha, I just can't stop! This would be a good way to nurture my need for all the ROMs I switch between all of the time.
Would this app work on a non rooted phone? I mean having the stock ROM in the phone and a rooted one on the SDcard. But I guess it wouln't...

No you need an unlocked bootloader to switch the boot.img. And root to do a number of other things involved in setting up the rom.

Once you go MIUI you don't go back I can't bring myself to use anything else LOL!
Oh I tried MIUI-XJ, it's nice to know that you're happy with it ^^ I used it for about three to four days and felt that I was using an iPhone more so than an Android and I prefer the feel/look of Android devices... I loved being able to theme it so easily, though. I like the transparency mods in NeoPhyte ROMs and bits and pieces of many others... I should just figure out how to make my own.
I hope that you got my response, Conap! My sent items folder said I hadn't sent anything but I am most positive that I did so I will wait to hear back from you =D.
Yeah, sure I could help with the testing... Do you want somebody with that knows ADB etc..?
got Miui XJ on phone rom and tried to boot CM7.
working without problems so far!
thank you. gonna look into this now
Should we run the update after the rom has been installed, so it updates the boot.img ? Haven't tried running the update.zip directly from bootmanager yet, but works fine from recovery.
Installed MIUI-108050 on my HTC Desire (stock boot/S-ON)
looks fantastic....im new to android and my desire but i am currently using neo's reflex s rom and i love it...i really want to try MIUI but i love reflex!

Hello Every one
I am new using android, i don't know much about it.

where i can get it ?
and how can i begin the upgrade [some guidance so i don't do wrong upgrade ]
I am ready to pay to get help fast
Thanks,

look at bottom post for my question
Starting with xcd 35
Your mobile is now in factory condition with Non Root access.
So first try to get the feel of having a rooted device.
Advantage is that you will be elevated to a super user(term in linux for an admin user) - google how to Root zte blade, u will see a modaco link for that. Do that first and once u get a hang of having a rooted device proceed on to Installing Recovery, then a new ROM
hope this helps.. I am new user in xda so i cant post links... sorry
The last stock update for blade is 2.2. And I'm not sure whether 2.3 stock will be available to blade or not.
But u can always have customised 2.3 AOSP roms.

can u please tell me which rooting app should i use ?
actually i used z4root and i rooted permanently then i installed 2-3 recovery app one by one which showed me error that my phone isn't rooted yet...
Update :: Whew ! finally rooted phone using z4root modified version and recovery manager is also installed...
please guide me for further steps
Edited :: installing clockwise recovery using rom manager...
Final Update :: finally got to install canyon mode 7.1.0 rc1 working on cell.... please tell me if there is any rom which is similar to android 2.3.4
Try Ginger Stir Fry presently version 26, very stable and good for daily use. And lot of people use it and post issues about it (also check modaco).. lot of support available.
Then there is elitemovil, LOT OF OPTIONS..... definitely worth a try. am going to jump into that after using gsf.

I remember task manager is a stock app of zte blade. No wonder if u find it missing in custom roms.
Removing /system/apps requires rooting. Use "titanium backup" or "root uninstaller" applications to remove those system apps. Those are the GUI tools for uninstalling system apps. You can also do it with command-line adb shell from a PC.

Hello!!
I'm a new user of Android and a couple of months ago I bought the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8.
THE CONTEXT:
I tried to upgrade my phone, rooting it and installing Android 2.3.7 (GingerXperiaV12) following a guide I found in youtube
After doing those steps yesterday, it worked fine.
I put to charge the battery all night, and this morning when I start the phone there was a message error telling about an error in Launcher Pro. I ignore it, and press continue so I don't remember very well what it said exactly (but it wasn't a long text, it pretty much said only that). Well, since the phone worked I didn't pay attention so I used WIFI and tried to install some apps like Skype, Barcode Reader or some Japanese Keyboard Input (like: google japanese input). The problem came when I tried to reboot the phone.
THE PROBLEM:
After pressing the center bottom and selecting "restart", the phone completly freezes when the text "Sony Ericsson" come out in the black screen. I can't access to the OS at all.
WHAT I HAVE TRIED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM:
I tried waiting several minutes and extract the battery to reboot and try again, but it still freezes when the "Sony Ericsson" come out.
I tried accesing to the xRecovery (which I installed in order to root the phone), pressing several times back botton, but it doesn't work either.
Please can someone give me a help with this? I have read somewhere I might try installing the launcher again. Do you think that is the solution? Is it possible?
Thanks for advance
hello my friend .. i dont know about ur problem but for me launcher pro really sux and i didnt like it at all .. if u want a good launcher then download (Go launcher EX) from market .. and yeah also if u want good roms , i mean the best for x8 u have to use GingerDX or nAa minicm7 2.1.7 , u will find these roms in the dev. section . if u want my opinion about them i prefer nAa cause it is very smooth and perfect dual touch here the link .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19691591
just follow the steps and read everythink and do it at ur own risk . welcome to the x8 forum and have a nice day .

Just use PC comapnion from SE and repair you phone....and after that root your phone again and install rom( for rooting and cwm the best tool is x8toolbox)
Ok
Thanks for the replies. Thanks god I could make it works!
Just a couple of notes:
1.- The only way to access to the Xperia x8 was via flashing it.
2.- PC Companion didn't work at all. Even when I could access to the phone via flash, at last PCC gave a error message saying that there weren't any update to install. It seems SE doesn't support this phone yet lol
3.- What worked efectively was Flashtool (second option in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12442257)
But the ROMs listed in step 2 of that guide (X8 Shakira E15i_2.1.1.A.0.6_generic.ftf, X8_1.6_clear.ftf, X8_2.0.2_China.ftf, SE x8_2.1_rus.ftf) didn't seems to work to me. So instead of those, I searched and put into the "firmware" folder of Flashtool this oficial ROM:

It seems difficult breaking bootloader for a noob like me though xDD
You can use GDX without any problem with stock kernel. So, its not mandatory to open bootloader but its recommended if you want to try CM9 based roms.
If you try to open bootloader, please go through the threads on xda and make sure that its safe to open it. Some phones are not safe to open and you may get your phone bricked. Please check the number behind your battery on the phone and make sure from xda if its safe. Also s1tool tells if its safe or not.

But the Market say "This device is not compatible with this element"
Is it possible? I mean, the official firmware I was using before trying to install this custom ROM allowed me to use it without any problem.
Have you ever got a message like this? Have I got to do something?

Your problem wasn't the launcher it was that you did something wrong while installing it that caused you to brick it. Always remember to factory reset your phone before and after flashing a rom just to be safe and to avoid errors.
GingerXperia V12 is quite old, go for V19 or V21b those are quite alot faster and worked really good for me, they also come with the Sony arc launcher so that's good. You also don't need to unlock your bootloader for those roms.

Thanks again
