[Q] Hello Hero ! - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi all
just picked myself up a Hero for €50 because someone had wiped his APN settings and didn't know how to put them back in
Got caught up in the 3.32.405.1 upgrade error but managed to fix that thanks to whitealien's nandroid, cheers !!
I've hunted around this forum (certainly a more quiet, pleasant and polite place compared with the bear pit that is the Galaxy S forum), but can't seem to find any recent threads on working stand alone GPs apps, they all seem to be about a year old.
Could one of you kid fellows advise one that works without the need for 3D acceleration, of it I've been blind and not seen a recent post with the info in, point me in the right direction

Nice deal you got.
I believe CoPilot works and obviously the Google Maps Navigation.

Ah I should have pointed out I'm in Ireland, we've only just got electricity here, so 3G navigation is a no go, I'll give CoPilot a whirl
Edit - Splendid stuff, works a treat, and embarrassingly locks on to satellites quicker than my Galaxy S does /

I Have A Couple of Questions before I Purchase A Titan

Hey everybody,
I've been looking for a phone to replace my Verizon Centro (I love the phone, but hate the OS), and my decision has come down to the HTC Titan and the Samsung i760 - I'm pretty sure y'all can tell I'm on a budget with this. Anyways, I found a Titan on eBay with the GPS patched, upgraded to WinMo 6.5, and has is set so tethering the phone with a laptop and using it as a modem won't cost extra. I've also found one that's dirt cheap but without any patches.
Now, I've been searching the forums and found out how to do the first two. Those seem easy enough as long as I'm patient. I can not, however, find out how to deal with the tethering issue. I've tried all the search options and I haven't found it. I'm hoping someone can point me to a thread or site that talks about it.
Lastly, I'd also like to ask you all your opinions of the phone itself. It seems to have gotten good reviews, but I'd like to hear from people who actually know what their phone can do.
Thanks for your time and any help you can give me.
i just got the phone...this reply wont be of much help but i really like it...
i like the office programs and the wifi..
bit on the heavy side but quality!
hope someone can be of more use!
I've had mine for about a year and really like it. It has a lot of features that were pretty ahead of its time that are still considered high-end:
stereo bluetooth, gps, touch screen, wi-fi, camera w/ flash
After unlocking it, putting on custom ROMs and enabling aGPS, this phone will make most people happy. The biggest drawback (and this should not be overlooked) is that it only has 64MB of RAM. That's pretty meager for an otherwise very powerful phone, and causes it to lag sometimes. Running multiple programs can sometimes grind your phone to a halt. Even with that said, I love my phone and would recommend it...primarily to someone who is not afraid to be proactive about flashing your phone or being judicious with installed programs.
I would also recommend buying the "unpatched" phone. Learning how to unlock and flash will get you pretty intimate with how you phone works and why. It'll help you out in the long run, especially if something ever goes wrong. Plus, it's not terribly difficult.
And for the tethering issue, try to get your hands on the latest version of WMWifiRouter before it became a paid program. I think it's v 0.92. It turns your phone into a wireless router that shares your data connection over wifi. I use it all the time and it is fantastic.

Couldn't have said it better. I had my Titan for about a year aswell and it finally died when it feel out of my buddies truck. Luckily I had Sprint TEP so I got a Touch Pro for free. I loved my Titan though, even with the lack of ram, I was able to do anything I needed to do. I would also suggest you buy the un-patched one. Learning to do the things yourself will help you alot in the long run.
I have attached a cab of WMWifiRouter that was mentioned in the previous post and the internet sharing fix as well. Also, if you do get it, check out my site http://dwizzy130.webs.com/ to see some of the very lite on ram themes I have made that all work on the Titan.
If you have anymore questions, you can pm me or get my email on the contact me page of my site.
I hope this helps you make a decision,

Thanks for your help guys! I decided to take your advice go with the unpatched one. Believe it or not, I was able to pick it up for $65, and it included the box and everything that came with it. Now I get to spend the next 4 days obsessing over when it will get here.

Great choice! After you have activated and got the phone working on its stock version be sure to copy down all the info in your Start > Settings > System Tab > Device Information. This will be helpful later if you get in a jam, and then start flashing away using the SD-memory card method. It's just faster and easier!
As for ROM choices, you'll get varying opinions but I mostly like my phone as a PHONE first and then as a Contact/Calendar PIM second, and then everything else considered. Which is why the DCD ROM's are my favorite because it's fast and leaves me with plenty of memory to install only apps that I intend to use!
Hey everybody, it's me again. Well, my phone is supposed to arrive tomorrow, and I've got most of the files downloaded and ready to go. All I need now is a ROM to flash it with. I've spent several hours looking around, so my question now is: would flashing to 6.5 be worth it (I've read quite a bit about the memory leaks), or should I go with dcd's titan ROM 3.3.4 for 6.1? Thanks again!

Hi,
I got hooked on the 6700 (Apache) back when Qwerst was had cheapest data plan, $15.
When I had issues with the functionallity of the unit, they sent me the 6800.
I found PPC Kitchen to be the most straight-foreward and fully selectable kitchen.
Just keep in mind that some of the apps that you choose, will cause other apps to become un-available. Like AdvancedConfig, (I select it first, then I can add other apps & it will not become un-selectable, unlike finding it later in the list, after selecting other apps).
There is also a program called "QPST".
This is important to copy the information from the phone while it is stock.
If your unit comes with Windows Mobile 6.1, get it setup with your carrier first, that way CustServ. Can walk you through setting up connections on your phone.
Any way there are very many helpful people using the fourms, with verry useful information, so enjoy your experience with the XDA & PPC Kitchen & don't forget PPC Geeks too.
Feel free to pm me.

ok so about 6 months ago i find a website, not here, it was just a small website and some guy had a fix for the standby issue for touch pro2 I did not have it then so i let it go but now i can't find it. I was hoping someone knows what im talking about. Thanks
Hello,
I think the site you are looking for is this one
http://www.madhacker.org/HTCTouchPro2.htm
Hope this helps
that is it. Thanks.
I should note that i tried this app and it does not work for tomtom but i think it works for google maps. try for your self and report back.
Thanks I will try it also with some other applications.
It works brilliantly with memory map, but not with copilot.

Another GPS Problem Question

Original, I thought I was left out of the GPS problem with the Samsung Vibrant, thinking it was about when you used GPS ...but with the Navigation
However, today, I was using the Google Search function, or something that simply invoked the GPS, but not fully using the Navigation, then it cut out, and I couldn't see anything for about 30 seconds, then it restarted fine.
THAT, please assure me is the problem that people were originally speaking of
I dont mind being wrong about what I thought it was ORIGINALLY. i.e. navigation being used
But please tell me that what I described is the problem and NOT a more serious problem that is gonna involve me having to get a new phone.
I had the NEXUS and one of the 3 I had turned off two or three times a day. They said it was NOT normal, and then I had to replace it..
I am hoping and leaning to believing that this problem is what you all have described as the original GPS problem cutting off
thanks
The original and core problem with the GPS which still exists is that the GPS cannot lock on to more than one or two satellites even though there are many more in view. The result is inaccurate and inconsistent position information being fed into whatever program uses GPS. People will notice symptoms more with nav apps but it will also affect browser location and google search (with location) as well. So your symptoms may be a result of of the common bad GPS problem. Personally I believe that ALL Vibrants have a faulty GPS as I have tried at least a dozen showing the exact same faulty behavior. The best way to determine if your phone has a buggered GPS is to test it using something like GPS Test and see how many satellites lock VS how many are in view (discovered). A fully functioning GPS will lock on no fewer than six sats with nine to fifteen visible.
Thank You XfooYen...and thanks for being Quick
I do not know how to do the test. Might you be able to and have to time to explain how simply and what I need (via apps etc..)
But bottom line, to hear that it is basically, maybe not fully, partly to do with the GPS makes me feel better.
At least it is not cutting off WHEN i am NOT using the GPS, 3-4 times a day, like my first android phone, Nexus
thx
Does the European Galaxy S have this issue? If so, then I fear that a solution is unlikely to be at hand, given that this version has been out for a while, and would point to a design flaw in the hardware that cannot be fixed with software.
That's the big unknown-is it hardware that's defective, bad firmware in the controller for the GPS chip, or a system software problem?
yeah, no one knows if it's firmware or hardware or both. Only time will tell. We all hope it's just firmware.
To OP, you can find GPS Test in the market. There are many ways to see what your GPS is doing exactly. Rather than me explaining it, I recommend you search youtube for examples of GPS testing in action.
A thing to consider is weather you can return the phone with a full refund. If so, I recommend it. You can then wait until a real fix is pushed out and repurchase when it does.
Sent from my Vibrant using XDA app facing north...no, wait. southwest.
Thank you for pointing out where to find the gps test Next i will look into doing it I also appreciate feedback on what the proper could be To summarize it seems like no 1 knows what the problem could be i may know more once the gps test is done next i think most would agree i m not looking for a wii fun on this fabulous phone n next correct me if i am wrong i hope work for t mobile 4 a while and have been there 11 years most phone companies you can't get a full refund out of the buyer's remorse period
i actually believe most of you will think i am right or at least the grateful to want to wait until the problem is saw. It is not the worse in the world once i find out that use it i will wait on the 6 once they say this symptom is clearly not related names if it persists i may ask for a replacement. Until then any support or advice in simple terms, LOL, Would be appreciated. I just saw a thread with the term gps fix with another link does anyone know if that works .
Thanks again so much Please remember this was typed or not typed using the speech to text feature. I have issues that make my hands shake head hurts and issues much better for typing
In sending my last post i head something popped up that said Something beta OR traditional Wouldn't that have something to do with this thread for the entire site on my vibrate

[Q] Lenov Thinkpad Tablet GPS issue?

Hi,
Anyone out there who has issues with the gps on the TPT?
I'm getting a fix quite slowly and losing it every few seconds.
This happens within Navigon Mobile Navigator, GPS Essentials and GPS Test.
The whole Tablet also feels quite laggy and doesn't perform well.
When writing this post with the Browser app, i have to wait about 1-2 seconds until the text i've just typed appears.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
TPT Definitely has a GPS issue...
Check out the "GPS TPT Acquiring Satellites Bug" thread on the Lenovo Thinkpad Slate forums... Sorry, this forum won't let me post a link yet...
Lenovo is finally "looking" into it but hasn't officially acknowledged a problem.
One major issue is that the GPS.conf file is using a Asia NTP_Server, if you're anywhere but Asia this will hobble your GPS fix times (or TTFF - Time To First Fix). This file requires root to edit which we don't have.
Second issue is whether the TPT uses AGPS when wirelessly connected to the internet, since a majority of TPT's don't have 3G/4G we don't know if AGPS is only enabled for 3G/4G or if it's available at all.
I've tried replacing the gps.conf file, syincing NTP clocks and updating the agps data via a wifi tether to my phone. I'm still having the same problems as you are, and as I was before.
I've resorted to negative user reviews based on the camera and the gps, with tag-ons about how bright the black is on the screen and the lag. I don't know how better to pressure a corporation than to go as public about issues as I can. Complaints to Lenovo don't seem to help much, at least not in the first year, which in gadget-schedule-terms is pretty much the lifetime of the gadget.
I'm also seriously considering living without the camera entirely and going with the CyanogenMod ROM. The stock firmware etiher way isn't up to snufff, but I'm fed up with the wierd keyboard lag that CM doesn't have.
EDIT: Sent it in for a new system board, primarily for GPS. 13 days ago. I got an email yesterday saying they're waiting for parts. The N-trig, keyboard and usb port are real tools, but the incredibly slow repair, having putzed with software fixes for the GPS for months (I'm a real sucker for intermittent reinforcement), the lag, and the lack of popularity (development and accessories) really have me second guessing the greatness of this product. I'd be thinking differently if I'd have gotten one made in 2012, or any "good" one. I hear they're out there. The bright side? I'll have fun doing hardware mods on it.
More: I sent it in. They replaced the system board. It took 14 days. The GPS worked a dream before I rooted. I'm looking for a solution now.

Regarding GPS

Hello guys.
My gps has been working just fine till yesterday, today for some reason I'm getting gps signal lost every now and then on gmaps.
I tried undoing anything that I did the previous day that may have affected this and searched and read a lot of posts regarding bad gps, but I'm not really sure if it's fixed or not.
If anyone's been through this and fixed it somehow please let me know what you did!
Thanks everyone, have a nice day!
I end up flashing the device fron scratch and it seems to be working ok for now.
One weird thing is that I have like 40 sats in view but I only connect at 20 at best.
Navigation is working fine though.
