Hey everybody,
I've been looking for a phone to replace my Verizon Centro (I love the phone, but hate the OS), and my decision has come down to the HTC Titan and the Samsung i760 - I'm pretty sure y'all can tell I'm on a budget with this. Anyways, I found a Titan on eBay with the GPS patched, upgraded to WinMo 6.5, and has is set so tethering the phone with a laptop and using it as a modem won't cost extra. I've also found one that's dirt cheap but without any patches.
Now, I've been searching the forums and found out how to do the first two. Those seem easy enough as long as I'm patient. I can not, however, find out how to deal with the tethering issue. I've tried all the search options and I haven't found it. I'm hoping someone can point me to a thread or site that talks about it.
Lastly, I'd also like to ask you all your opinions of the phone itself. It seems to have gotten good reviews, but I'd like to hear from people who actually know what their phone can do.
Thanks for your time and any help you can give me.
i just got the phone...this reply wont be of much help but i really like it...
i like the office programs and the wifi..
bit on the heavy side but quality!
hope someone can be of more use!
I've had mine for about a year and really like it. It has a lot of features that were pretty ahead of its time that are still considered high-end:
stereo bluetooth, gps, touch screen, wi-fi, camera w/ flash
After unlocking it, putting on custom ROMs and enabling aGPS, this phone will make most people happy. The biggest drawback (and this should not be overlooked) is that it only has 64MB of RAM. That's pretty meager for an otherwise very powerful phone, and causes it to lag sometimes. Running multiple programs can sometimes grind your phone to a halt. Even with that said, I love my phone and would recommend it...primarily to someone who is not afraid to be proactive about flashing your phone or being judicious with installed programs.
I would also recommend buying the "unpatched" phone. Learning how to unlock and flash will get you pretty intimate with how you phone works and why. It'll help you out in the long run, especially if something ever goes wrong. Plus, it's not terribly difficult.
And for the tethering issue, try to get your hands on the latest version of WMWifiRouter before it became a paid program. I think it's v 0.92. It turns your phone into a wireless router that shares your data connection over wifi. I use it all the time and it is fantastic.

Couldn't have said it better. I had my Titan for about a year aswell and it finally died when it feel out of my buddies truck. Luckily I had Sprint TEP so I got a Touch Pro for free. I loved my Titan though, even with the lack of ram, I was able to do anything I needed to do. I would also suggest you buy the un-patched one. Learning to do the things yourself will help you alot in the long run.
I have attached a cab of WMWifiRouter that was mentioned in the previous post and the internet sharing fix as well. Also, if you do get it, check out my site http://dwizzy130.webs.com/ to see some of the very lite on ram themes I have made that all work on the Titan.
If you have anymore questions, you can pm me or get my email on the contact me page of my site.
I hope this helps you make a decision,

Thanks for your help guys! I decided to take your advice go with the unpatched one. Believe it or not, I was able to pick it up for $65, and it included the box and everything that came with it. Now I get to spend the next 4 days obsessing over when it will get here.

Great choice! After you have activated and got the phone working on its stock version be sure to copy down all the info in your Start > Settings > System Tab > Device Information. This will be helpful later if you get in a jam, and then start flashing away using the SD-memory card method. It's just faster and easier!
As for ROM choices, you'll get varying opinions but I mostly like my phone as a PHONE first and then as a Contact/Calendar PIM second, and then everything else considered. Which is why the DCD ROM's are my favorite because it's fast and leaves me with plenty of memory to install only apps that I intend to use!
Hey everybody, it's me again. Well, my phone is supposed to arrive tomorrow, and I've got most of the files downloaded and ready to go. All I need now is a ROM to flash it with. I've spent several hours looking around, so my question now is: would flashing to 6.5 be worth it (I've read quite a bit about the memory leaks), or should I go with dcd's titan ROM 3.3.4 for 6.1? Thanks again!

Hi,
I got hooked on the 6700 (Apache) back when Qwerst was had cheapest data plan, $15.
When I had issues with the functionallity of the unit, they sent me the 6800.
I found PPC Kitchen to be the most straight-foreward and fully selectable kitchen.
Just keep in mind that some of the apps that you choose, will cause other apps to become un-available. Like AdvancedConfig, (I select it first, then I can add other apps & it will not become un-selectable, unlike finding it later in the list, after selecting other apps).
There is also a program called "QPST".
This is important to copy the information from the phone while it is stock.
If your unit comes with Windows Mobile 6.1, get it setup with your carrier first, that way CustServ. Can walk you through setting up connections on your phone.
Any way there are very many helpful people using the fourms, with verry useful information, so enjoy your experience with the XDA & PPC Kitchen & don't forget PPC Geeks too.
Feel free to pm me.

Hi,
I have had PDAs for over 10 years, all of which have untill recently been Palms. 2 months ago I bought a X01HT and since then it has taken over my life, I am spending way too much time reading forums and upgrading, probably on average over 3 hours a day. I can not get any work done. maybe I'm stupid, I don't know, all I want is a working device and my device after many upgrades and roms is not reliable, it crashes 5 times a day, I've missed important calls and MMSs and lost important files. What should I do? am I missing somethin
Any hints would be greatly appreciated, I just don't know where to start
Currently using LVSW not the latest but about a week old, with the Japanese addons suggested on the forums, and a basic selection of software that all have been noted as being used by someone else without problems (nothing strange) have also tried black 2 and 3 with the same amount of phone throwing success ( I haven't thrown it, or misstreated it in any way, although I have wanted to)
I don't want to miss out on the endless possibilities that PPC has over the Palm but I may just have to go back to Palm so I can get my life back
Did you try these suggestions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1078848&postcount=2
Mike
thanks for the link I did the things you suggested and reformated my SD card and uninstalled Spb pocket plus and things seem much better, It has only been a day but not crashes so far, thankyou.
I am willing to help build a wiki and I know its going to be hard but is it possible to start a troubleshooting wiki? maybe with software issues with various ROMs, wireless issues etc? I realize it's going to be big and take some time but a general WM6 troubleshooting guide I think would possibly be more advantagous than searching through 100s of pages of the forum with little success
Thanks all for making this place what it is, the difinative source for making our PDAs more helpfull to our lives

Everyone needs a hobby.
I'm using the latest Black ROM, and had no problems so far. It is quite likely to be the add-ons and programs you have installed. Have you tried using clean ROMs or alternative programs?
Hi there,
I'm new to this forum - and new to the whole Windows Mobile idea as I'm normally an avid Apple fan but I do make an exception when it comes to the phone as the iPhone (as of yet) is quite 'useless' when it comes functionality and flexibility compared to a Windows Mobile device.
In either case, I've recently flashed my MDA Vario II and, after having used Black Satin for a day or two, put on Schap's 3.60a WM6 ROM. The only reason i did not like Satin was that it combined the inbox/outbox for MMS and SMS messages (knowing my luck I'm sure there would have been an easy way around that).
Right, ever since I put on the WM6 ROM and installed a few other applications, such as Spb's Mobile Shell, Spb Weather, etc etc the phone seems to be incredibly sluggish and slow. I did a full re-set and then installed one application at a time to see if it has something to do with a particular bit of software. But I don't think that's the case as the phone acts pretty slow even with nothing installed after the hard re-set. But now, after a few days, it takes, for example, around 15seconds to show the Windows directory using either File Explorer or Resco's explorer. The start-up progress, especially the transition from the Splash Screen to the standard Home Screen is incredibly slow and happens in stages. It then takes about another 30 seconds for the keypad to come up, asking for my PIN.
I've been running all sorts of utilities such as MemMaid, PocketMechanic and SKTools to make sure that the device is in 'mint' condition but, if at all, this made little change to the overall speed.
I expected the phone to run slightly slower under WM6 compared to WM5 as, strictly speaking, the TyTN, as I understand it, was not designed with WM6 in mind - which may be the reason why a lot of providers here in the UK do not offer a WM6 upgrade. However, the phone has become uncomfortably slow and sluggish so is there any way to speed it up or is this a known issue with WM6 on the TyTN?
Also, not sure this is the right forum for this but I also tried to set up Direct Push and it works fine - only problem I have is that it does not seem to support WiFi (it does when I check manually but as soon as I utilise the Direct Push function, the phone insists to connect to the 3G network). Now this is not necessarily a big problem as I've got an unlimited data plan but when at home I am using WiFi and there is little point in having both switched on, WiFi and the Data Connection as that does drain the battery. Again, any ideas to solve this would be appreciated
Thank you guys
Hello mate,
Not sure why you are having the problems you are having. Anyway I run Schaps on my Tytn (see my sig), together with SPB products without any problems at all. The whole lot is rock solid.
My suggestion would be that you re-flash your device with the combination of ROM and Radio that I use, given I have confirmed no issues. If that works then you have at least proved your device is ok. If it doesn't work then your problem lies elsewhere, probably with the device.
Strong advice - make absolutely sure you have done all the things and taken all the precautions outlined in Mr Vanx's excellent guides (see here http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/)
I will track this thread to see how you get on.
Cheers
WB
Hello there...
How was your device under Satin? I am running Satin on an 8525, and it runs ok. Black Satin is also a WM6 rom. I am running HTC home, pocket breeze and iLauncher. SPB tends to let it slower, but not that slow for sure.
I suggest you read through the specific thread of Schaps 3.60. I am not sure, but i once read a few posts, and if i recall correctly, there were some problems with the version. Either that or 3.57... don't know for sure.
I also suggest re-flashing with a different rom. Or, read through the Satin thread here at XDA-devs or at 4winmobile, and there might be a fix for the mms/sms thingy. Then go back to Satin. There is also the Black X going on, but I think it is still beta...
Just don't forget to follow Mr. Vanx precautions, specially installing HardSPL v7, if you don't want a bricked device.
Let us know how it goes
Hey there,
Thanx for replying. I have been thinking about re-flashing the ROM but to see if that helps. I have been playing with the phone a lot so I may have somehow done something which I shouldn't have - whatever that may be :S
Can I ask ... in your sig you state that the 1.50 Radio is very buggy - what are the issues with it, cos I am using that one and was wondering if that could possibly be related to it?
Thanx for the replies guys. I've decided to re-flash the ROM and, it seems to be working fine again. I actually think the phone works slightly faster now as it did under the T-Mobile WM5 ROM. I haven't updated the Radio and stuck to 1.50 as I've read somewhere that it's working fine for the UK (lemme know if I'm wrong - they say there would be a noticable improvement in 3G reception, but I haven't seen that, but I dont seem to have any major issues with 1.50)
So, fingers crossed the phone won't slow down again - which I guess it shouldn't and I'll be careful what I install on it, making sure I have the latest versions of everything.
Thanx again for all your suggestions
Flipside,
Radio 1.50 caused me loads of problems; dropped calls, not being able to make a call for no reason, people not being able to reach me even though the phone was on and in an excellent signal area, having to reboot to get the radio to switch on, etc, etc.
Have not looked back since i went to 1.47. The lesson learnt for me was not to jump at the latest radio rom, just because its the latest. Latest does not necessarily mean best for ones particular circumstances.
Cheers
WB
Hi i have the Verizon xv6900 with WM6.0 and after 2 days or 3 days of use the program memory goes down to 60MB and then the phone acts very slow. for example it takes device longer to receive text messages, reply or even type messages and move between options and close programs. i was wondering if there is a way to stop this from happening or make the device work faster. i do close all the programs but the memory does stay at 60MB(Program) after using for 2-3 day starts from 72MB(Program).
Thanx
hmm
if i was you, i would reset the phone and see how it goes
i mean a regular hard reset, not a complete reinitialization of the rom.
for me, i always reinstall everythign fresh, from computers to PDA's. when you first get your phone it will do some auto-installations. i stop this and install only what i want. i dont want that IM on.. or the pocket express on it. and who knows what else they load on. you should look into that.
also, upgrade to 6.1, its the ****!
re
Hi upgrading to 6.1 how do yo do that? i mean is that through verizon or HTC?
Usualy there is a link from your service provider to the HTC site with the DL. A quick look in google.
http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=95&cid=1&mid=302&carrier=Verizon%20Wireless
so give that a try.
back everything up, it will erase everything you have.
since you have everything backed up.. you can interrupt the customization process as well, which is what i do, to make sure i got a clean phone, but one step at a time!
Upgrading to wm6.1?
UNLOCK YOUR PHONE WITH 2.31.

DO NOT LET THE CUSTOMIZATION RUN IF YOU INTEND TO USE THE GPS.
no matter what verizon is locking down GPS tight, unless you use their own service. keep that in mind

Yes but people like myself do have it unlocked & working.
If you have 60MB free, there is a problem with a specific app or registry edit/setting you have. 60 is plenty of mem to have. Did you flash a custom ROM? If you did, there may be a bad page pool setting.

Get rid of the stock rom.
It's no good.
Drains battery, adds bunch of useless programs, you'll get such a better experience using a custom rom.
No love for the Saga??
I love it... and check for news about once every two weeks. Haven't heard anything.
hello fellow IL person... im hoping for a 6.5 cooked rom
note... I posted a message over on PDAPhoneHome.com and everythingwm.com and then found this thread... since it is similar in nature to my questions, I thought I would reply to this one instead of starting a new thread.
Greetings fellow frustrated Saga owners!
Wish I hadn't updated…
I, like many of you, now wish that I had not installed the update on my Saga.
It worked great before!... But now I am experiencing many of the same bugs that have already been mentioned on this forum.
I am pretty tolerant of bugs in general and I don't mind trying to find workarounds for them. Often, the workarounds add more functionality then would normally be there anyway… Plus I enjoy learning how things work.
Biggest problem…
The one thing that I can't stand is the loss of signal strength I have seen since updating! My data connection dies several times per day and I have to soft reset to get it back. Sometimes it is hours before I realize this has happened so I am not always getting my email right away. (Who has time to check their phone every few minutes to see if it has stopped synching or not?)
Other times it seems like it just stops synching for no reason. I use both an exchange server (MailStreet) and Windows Live and they both have this problem. Sometimes I check my phone when I go on break at Noon and I will notice that it hasn't synched since 9:30 AM or sometimes longer than that, yet there is no error message (like it tried to synch and couldn't) and I open the browser and can get on the internet. It is like it doesn't even try to synch. I have both of them set to synch every 15 minutes (greatly increases battery life btw) 24 hours a day. Then there are other times, it synchs more often than every 15 minutes… so I don't know what is going on!
Getting worse?…
Is it just me or do the signal issues seem to be getting worse? Or maybe it is just in my area? This past week I have actually started getting errors saying that it couldn't connect (whereas before, it just wouldn't connect... no errors)... and it seems to be happening more frequently.
Finally… my question…
What I would like to know is if anyone is working on a "cooked" ROM for the Saga. Either 6.1 or 6.5 would work for me. I have heard some good things about 6.5 (like dramatically increased performance), but I haven't heard about anyone working on this for the Saga. Waiting for Verizon to come out with another update is just a lesson in frustration and honestly I am not sure I would trust it if they did release one.
I consider myself to be a pretty tech savvy person and even enjoy some light programming on occasion (the .net framework is awesome… Something Microsoft got right!!), yet I am reasonably certain that cooking up my own ROM is beyond my skills (though I am willing to give it a shot if someone can point me to a clear guide)
Follow-up question…
If no one is working on this and no helpful guide is available, then I am wondering if a ROM from a similar phone can be used (maybe with a few modifications required?). For instance, is the Epix similar enough that we could use a ROM designed for it on the Saga? (There is a 6.5 ROM for the Epix that can be found here) Or does the fact that its hardware is GSM only make it out of the question?
More questions…
If using a ROM from a similar phone is possible is there a way to backup the current ROM so that it could be restored if the other ROM doesn't work? If so then I would probably be willing to use my phone as a guinea pig. Yes, I understand that there is a possibility that it could brick my phone and I am willing to accept the risk if there is a good chance that it will work. I have an old blackberry that I can use if something goes really wrong.
So I guess the real question is… How similar do the phones have to be? Or does it have to be identical hardware?
Any insight would be appreciated...
Steven
Id like to know the same answers! The Omnia, which came out at the same time will be upgradable to 6.5, so why did samsung release a phone that wont be at the same time as one that could?
i wonder if an omnia rom could be altered for the samsung?
Lets see some love for the Saga with 6.5, also any news on the Sags 2?
Revisiting old thread
I've still got a brand new Saga that I'd love to use if I could get a stable build of 6.1 or 6.5. The "update" from Verizon made the Saga useless with its instability and constant lock-ups.
I would really appreciate some of the experts here building a clean ROM for the Saga.
Thanks.
I was on the phone with T-Mobile Support (611), regarding my HD2 and the issues that I am still having with this device. The rep. stated that T-Mobile is aware of the issues on the phone and that the 1st ROM update did not resolve them all and caused some new ones.
She stated specifically this new update would resolve the issue of the device hanging after you try to wake up the phone...also, the "unreliable data connection" issue is still prevalent (I still have this problem - and I have tried everything I can think of or read about). She stated that there are other fixes that they are working on to resolve with this new update.
I could not get a solid time frame, but she stated that it should be pretty quick, given that they issued the first one within a short time frame after the HD2 release.
Now, I'm not sure if this means an upgrade from 6.5 to 6.5.3, but I wouldn't count on it. I just hope it is released soon. This device is so nice and so awful at the same time. Constantly I experience little nagging issues that make using this device such a hassle.
Have you tried just flashing it to one of these custom ROMs?
No I have not yet tried the custom ROM yet on the HD2. I like the way the T-Mobile ROM are, I just am getting fed up with the "unreliable data connection" BS. Also, the phone (since the ROM update) has been running slow and I don't think that is acceptable with the 1GHz snapdragon on this device. My only other issue is that the speaker phone stops working because T-Mobile added some stupid software to the device. If you dial 611, the software pops up and tries to solve your problem via webpage and stops the speaker phone from working till you restart the device.
While that is a short list of issues, they are major issues in using the device. But I think i will wait till this 2nd update comes out...if it does not resolve my issues, custom ROM here I come!
I belive flashing NRG will solve your issues It did mine.
Which issue did it solve? The data connection issue?
Data and freezing as well not to mention the phone just flies now. flashing a new radio fixed reception issue
well I will give it a try and see if it resolves my issues as well. I figure we have about a month or so before T-mobile releases the 2nd update. I know I will not be able to last that long with these issues. It is just a pain in the a-- to flash ROMs every day...I'm not into doing it all the time. I would like to find a good stable ROM and run with it. It just takes too much time flashing and reinstalling all those programs and changing the settings to where I like them all (too much work).
Like I said it is a shame, i really like this device on paper, but in the real world is just has some serious issues. I thought i would get a year or two out of this device when i bought it, now I am already looking to swap this puppy out. I'm looking to see what is coming down the pipeline. I refuse to go with WP7 (feels like the step backwards with it limitations as compared to WM6.5 - and i don't want a device that clones the iPhone of 4 years ago)
Anyone other suggestion on custom ROMs?
NRG 21911 is very solid and you don't have to flash everyday it has xda uc and pim backup witch will back up and reinstall all your software I did it yesterday in about 20 min. I refrain from flashing during the week. the the first time it will take about an hour just read all you can on it. 670megs free space on device 13gigs on sd and 300 megs of free RAM
I'm downloading the 23121 Cookie Dinik Glass version right now...I'll let you know how it works on my device. thanks for pointing me in this direction, appreciate it!
tmobile rep told me the same thing after I had a warranty exchange, she said to expect the update soon as there are alot of people experiencing problems with the current software. Although to be honest after running Android on my HD2 I dont think I ever want to use winmo again.
are you getting everything to work with Android? i did not think they have a fully functional Android ROM for the HD2 yet
They're all the same...
My biggest complaint is the bad data connection. Paying too much money for crappy connection. I can't even get connection in my lower level of my house. I think every carrier and cell phones all have their own problems. My two co-workers, one with Droid and the other iPhone have similar problems. Droid keeps freezing 2 warranty phone exchanges so far and iPhone looses connection frequently. iPhone guy wishes his would freeze so he could get a replacement. So it's not just me.
Help me please
So i tried to install android, and on gthe web it said i needed to install hpsl well my phone had it set to 2.10 they stated i needed 2.08 or earlier so i did it but the install still didn't work !!! How can i return my phone back to 2.10 and still get my warranty back

i read on pocetnow that android is being worked on on xda. seen a couple of post too, but there is always some component not really working. is there an official android post where all the kinks are worked out? i would like to switch if thats the case. thanks.
Wow is all I can say about that NRG ROM....it is great! does everything I have been looking for, no data connection issues since last night (I'll report back on this issue as time goes by). It's fast and very stable (so far, but hell I'm impressed), and I did not even use most stable version the 21911.
The UI is great, I love the three pages of app slot, everything is within one or two finger stokes this way. It also gets rid of the apps that I don't want (ie TelNav, etc...) but keeps most of the apps that I do want...I can always install cabs for the programs I want from the official ROM. Plus it has cooked into it all those sweet tweaks and settings. Great work, I'm not even waiting for T-mobile to release the 2nd update any longer.
Thanks gtrplr71 again for suggesting this custom ROM, it's so nice, I don’t even think I will be trying out any other ROMs.
I would not get hopes up of a 6.5.3 upgrade. Could you imagine the Technical support nightmare if they had to troubleshoot 2 different OS versions?
This is one reason I think Android and Linux will really take off in the future.

There's a HD2 Android section in the original HD2 area (euro hd2 section).... but it is a work in progress. There are still a lot of issues and kinks. It will be a while before it works as well as a native android phone. But the progress they've made is unbelievable. It's great having both winmo and android on my phone.

Thanks gtrplr71 again for suggesting this custom ROM, it's so nice, I don’t even think I will be trying out any other ROMs.

your welcome don't forget to make a backup with pim backup to your sd card and use xda uc once you get things settled. Have fun!
how does the xda uc work? i could not figure that out, when I ran the app it stated that i did not have that file on my storage card...but it appeared there somehow.
Also, the incall record does not seem to work at all. when i lauch it (after I connect or before I connect a call) all I get is a blank lined page (note pad page).
And, is there a list of the added and removed apps somewhere? I could not find it in the ROM thread.
As for the 6.5.3 upgrade from T-Mobile, i don't think it will happen either and right now, after trying the NRG ROM...I don't care. I'm not even going to try the T-mobile 2nd ROM upgrade. Now with Android comes along on the HD2 (fully functional) then i will surely set up a dual boot situation on my HD2. That is like the best of both world.
(xda uc)-you wont notice anything different It will run and monitor the phone for new settings when you decide to flash a new build it will auto run and import settings and apps.
