Hi Guys,
Is there any way to change "via Android" to "via Xperia aRc" on Facebook Android when posting on FB??
As far as I've seen the only is option is updating your status through timescape but even then it only writes 'via Sony Ericsson Xperia' ...
sent from The ARC
There are so many android phones that facebook doesn't wan't to update it. It also doesn't show wich bb phone or iphone it is send from.
there is something that u need to modify in build.prop
i forgot wht it is exactly but u can check the X10 forums there was something on this a while back when we were using ported apps from prototype Arc system dump
That's set up on FB servers. You can't modify build.prop to make FB say "Sent via Facebook for Xperia Arc" because FB doesn't have that option.

guys think something about this, I love to see "via Sony Ericsson Xperia™"
currently this option is only with Timescape..

You can post over
facebook.com/connect/prompt_feed.php?preview=true&api_key=144276615583513
and you get your status update with the note
"via my rooted Xperia X10i running R2BA023 on 2.6.29rel" and a small android icon
instead of the usual
"via Facebook for Android"
give it a try.
No idea why the forum puts a blank in front of the 13 at the end of the link, just remove it.
I hope the the post/thread is correct at this position. Read the Forum guides but since it's my first post....
thanks for the information. but i like to update via timescape as it will say update via sony x10.
After installation of FreeX10 on my device i can't find Sony Ericsson Sync..
I can't see it in the autosync options and neither when I install the apk i can't find the service in appdrawer.
Anyone know a way for me to get it working?

lol, you're not going to either.
Gee thanks SE - turns out this app does not work on the Arc. So here are 2 questions:
1. does anyone use the SE Sync service? Would it have saved the SMS?
2. Does anyone know of a way to read/decrypt the backup file so I can extract some raw text?
It has already been said on the Sony Ericsson developers blog that the Sony Ericsson backup and restore app is incompatible with gingerbread. It has been stated that 2.3.2 and 2.3.3 will not have the backup and restore app, so I would recommend you try one of the other apps on the marketplace that will work on gingerbread

I don't read the SE developer's blogs.
I have an X10 backup file that I'm looking to decrypt - once I've done that and saved what needs saving I can use the regular apps.

If I was able to link you- I would, but this is a secondary account after my primary account email got deleted and I forgot my password to my primary account.
the only way I know around this is to get another app that does backup and restores and use that. there is plenty available on marketplace

Yes but they can't read the SE file... I traded in my X10 for a big discount on the Arc so I don't have it handy...

that would be because the SE backup and restore tool encrypts its backups. I do not know how to decrypt it

Why don't you phone SE for support, or take your SD card to a local shop/ service centre... get them to help you?

That's the first thing I did - They've given me the run-around. Bloody annoying.
What I'll probably do is go to the shop I got the Arc from and ask to borrow their display X10 for a few minutes.

thats about all you can do. I would prefer SOny Ericsson did what they did to release the handset earlier. The last thing we want is a 7 month delay over something so insignificant
I used Backup and Restore version 010935 to restore just my sms messages when migrating from my X10 to my Arc.
Contacts were pulled from my Google account, and the only thing i really wanted was my sms messages.
Others have reported success restoring other data, but it is not advised to restore system settings, because obviously, it's not the same system.
Got a lot of the info from this SE forum: http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/65988
You can get the file here.
It has been suggested to download the program directly from SE's site, but that link doesn't really work. This is the APK that somebody extracted.
Heyy I have had the xperia arc since o2 release on the 19th April.
1 question where is the file manager and personal profiles etc.
Also what app is used to take screenshots as looking at android market all the apps there say the phone has to be rooted.
Thanks in advance,
Jinx13
There are many file manager & personal profile apps in Market
I use Astro file manager to manage my files
Root is available for ARC, so you can root your device... Without rooting you can use MyPhoneExplorer to take shots (need to be installed on device + on PC)
Thanks for the tips downloaded that file manager new to android

android Is awesome.. but it might take you a bit to get used to it.. depending what platform you've come from...
Sent from The Arc!
you can use dropbox to make it like ftp and upload files from your computer that you can download anytime with your phone
try it

1 other thing what are you using to root the arc? I seen a thread HERE Is that what your all using?
About root, i think you should wait a little more for custom stable roms.
Im looking into it since im new to android too
Depends what you want to root for, and if your phone is unbranded and sim unlocked?
If it is.. then you can unlock the bootloader and flash a rooted kernel. here..
then root here..
I rooted mine to delete some stuff and install screen shot apps, and reboot widget!.. awaiting kernel to allow overclocking..
voice dialer
Where can I find it? According to the help files it should be in the application list but it's not there... in gsmarena's test it says there's 'a dedicated homescreen widget' but I couldnt find anything as such in the widget list.
I need it and I don't like the idea of browsing through the market for finding applications for each missing feature (yes, I'm a beginner in Android )
Dev
Just copied this from the sys.. you can try installing it.. make sure you check "unknown sources" in the settings/ application menu.

No luck, it says its installed, but when I try to launch it 'Activity not found - android.com.voicedialer'. Same if I try to use the apk in /system/app. Is it there in your applications list?
actually..no, it's not.. and doesn't seen to be accessible grin within the dialer either.. have you tried plugging the headset in and clicking the button on there. long press I think? haven't got mine with me so can't test it right now.

Using my BT headset I could use the voice dialer (rather voice command, because its like 'call xxnamexx', 'open calendar') Now I'd like to assign custom voice tags to contacts because it will never recognize hungarian names

Theme support, available under 'Display' settings or with a long-press option on the home screen. Still limited to a handful of SE themes but if you always wanted less blue in the menus it's now an option.
The Gingerbread CRT-off animation makes its first appearance!
The widget overview accessed with a pinch on the home screen now has the widgets floating about. Shaking the phone sends them flying. Pretty and smooth animation but it makes the overview practically unusable IMO, I'll tap SE about this.
Several ring tones have disappeared, among others the one I were using (Digital Phone). Not a big issue.
I'm finally able to set a silent alarm! Previous firmwares allowed setting the alarm sound to 'None' in the list but always defaulted back to the last set sound anyway. This is now fixed.
Setting the alarm time now entails spinning dials instead of clicking. Faster but less precise.
Various UI text is now smaller and sharper.
Additional bloatware, of which some can be uninstalled without root.
'Connected Devices', a more intuitive and cleaner version of the DLNA media server software.
The address book looks a bit different, I think. Unfortunately it's still impossible to change the sorting order of contacts.
The photo album offers a few more options when you call up the menu.
Digital zoom available at all camera resolutions. Only for images though, not video.
Compression levels of still pictures remain overly high.
xLOUD option to significantly enhance audio output strength from the rear speaker. Almost painfully loud IMO.
Using the HDMI mirroring feature now forces the home screen into landscape mode for a better fit with widescreen TVs.
There is also the Keyboard option for International (full keyboard or Phonepad !)
Minor updates:
Video Editor
Data Monitor
Contact Widget
Timescale extension search
Friends & Music
Setup screen has been changed
Nice Update Center
Etc.
They introduced
New weather widget
New layouts for background theme management
New Xloud benefits
Etc
Enjoy!

The wifi does have a weird issue when you first boot it from flash. you have to restart it again it will work correctly. I am not sure if you meant if arc "can" disconnect itself from wifi. i currently tried to disable it and turn it back on it works well. perhaps could you explain it again? sry my english is bad haha
Thats great! Well, I am not sure really, but if you have root explorer installed you can access your system folder.
Perhaps someone else could help us!?

Well.. since its not rooted I don't have root explorer.
I thought some adb pull command can extract the widgets?
Perhaps you can ask DoomLord.. he usually knows such stuff
Hmmmm. It would be really great if someone could extract the new apps and widgets for us, because i dont want to loose my root.
Thank you all
