Very early discussion on SGS4 - Galaxy S II General

Tongue in cheek spin-off from Early discussion on SGS3 thread.
I hope it includes the much talked about, free packet of strawberry angel delight.

Why would you make a thread up regarding gs4? gs2 is about to be realeased and gs3 hasnt even gone into production yet and proberly still being designed as we speak.
What a waste

whooooooosh!

I would want it to be like this
* Nano technology (nokia gave a concept though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX-gTobCJHs )
* Fold-able with Supreme AMOLED +++
* Should act on "thinking"
* Can project type-able keyboard and Touch screen (projector)
* Charge from any light source
* GPS with millimeter accuracy
* Connectivity Wifi, Alshare with 1 TB/s speed
* Water, shock and fire proof
* 1 TB storage or constantly sync with Home computer for all data
* More feature to come
That is what I expect for SGS 4

boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing

I have an inside connection that is usually right. Heard the SGS4 can mow your lawn. That wasn't surprising but it can do it while on standby! Good times are upon all of us! (Those with a lawn to mow especially!)

I heard it can toast bread using just the flash on the camera.

Do we really need this discussion? Nothing is known yet. Let's just wait.

SGS4 will bring world peace and end world hunger
it will also fix worldwide financial crisis

The SGS4 will be made out of a new duralumin material. It looks and feels like metal but has the flexibility of plastic.

Even Sammy will laugh man, some comments really made me LMAO
Some more features:
* Wake up 6:30 am for me and go to my work
* Do my dishes and laundry
* cook me perfect meal
* Work as shovel when my car is stuck in Sand while off-roading
* Replace my Sony Vaio laptop
* Connect wirelessly to my Home theater
* Work as a ATM with infinite cash, cashing from all Billionaires
* Become a car/ aero plane or whatever I think
* point at a girl and tell me about her, what she likes and bla bla bla
* Massager
* Predictions with ratio of correctness 100%
More features on their way. Gosh Sammy will LHAO

Hey, these specs aren't just rumours you know. The mow-your-lawn feature came from a trusted insider, who even provided a picture of his lawn as proof. The grass was immaculate.

Yeah and until recently the 1 GHz dual core was no rumor either and they bumped it to 1.2. We are now talking about a phone which gets released in 6-8 months. Things are subject to change, probably change a lot.

Anyone else slightly annoyed...

by the COMPLETE lack of info from Google itself regarding Gingerbread?
No

yes, this time it seems they were very tight since nothing has leaked out. a couple of pictures here and there but thats all.
It's kinda secrative and exciting all at the same time!
Heh, seriously, who cares? They don't HAVE to....the less info leaks, the more of a surprise effect it will have, meaning more publicity, public enjoyment (if it was well done) and so on...
I honestly don't care since I enjoy my Nexus every minute I use it! It still would be nice to get Gingerbread this week since it will bring new things, new fun, new everything

I thought your spam was concise and detailed enough so that it didn't warrant a concise and detailed response as to why Google is being tight lipped about their upcoming intellectual property release.
I think they were somewhat revealing at the I/O.
Whenever I start longing for gingerbread I just thank God I don't have a Samsung vibrant, they're still waiting for froyo which was supposed to come like a month ago. I'm just happy to have a Samsung so I avoid Samsung's proverbial "jerk around". By the time they get froyo we will he knee deep in gingerbread. Poor bastards

Android is supposed to be open. At least that is what I heard.
Also, developers might find information regarding future releases and resulting API changes useful, ahead of time.
quick someone leave their n2 with 2.3 installed on their dinner table and walk off casually so some bloke can pick it up and hook the rest of us up!

G2 overclock competition

As of late I haven't really heard any more news of significant clock speed gains from other higher end phones such as the Droid X/2 or the SGS phones.
From what ive read the X/2 overclocks were overinflated fibs and the OC method used in the SGS phones overstated their true clock speeds. Anything that I have missed?
I watched a competition like this once...
It was done at a dyno shop amongst members from a Nissan car club.
It was all fun and games until someone exploded their 1000hp Skyline engine.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA....

Ahhh, the beauty of trying to sound witty on a forum.
One would never assume the OP graduated with an associate degree in automotive technology in early 09'. Now that I've stepped out of my realm of expertise into this forum and asked a simple question (at least it's not in the dev forum) I would like some serious input if that's alright. Just proud of my phone that's all.
BTW, the correct terminology is detonated, not exploded and it can be caused by any number of issues...my money is on either a boost spike or lifted head.
Seriously not trying to be an ass here, the g2 has gotten some press over this issue lately and its legit unlike the other phones.
Thanks dude.

not that i am against overclocking(this is the first phone i overclocked and i set it to 1 gig) but other than "because i can" why do we need it faster than 1.9? sometimes i like to put my phone to my face to talk on it and i would like to keep from needing skin grafts. do any of our apps really NEED anything more than maybe 1.2?
psx4droid runs great at the higher speeds as long as you keep an eye on the cpu and battery temps. I have the 1800mhz Zimage on my phone right now but I keep it restricted to 1000mhz via setcpu.
Really I see it as about pushing the boundaries for the sake of knowledge, if I could compile my own personal kernel I would but being on the verge of going to pharmacy school and work both keep me too busy to learn how.
This thread isn't really about why one would do it, it was just simply asking how the g2 is fairing against other higher end phones.
I'd love to see something like this as well. Sooner or later, we're going have to start installing heatsinks on to our phones.

man, i like your style!
this is a great idea.. but: plates must be very close to eachother, and it's unuseful if the plates are close to other parts themeselves; don't exceed with the paste: it must be a small quantity that, pressed, it expands itself close the the edges of the component
if it doesn't work, you can clean the paste with some alcool, using a cotton-fioc ( you know, these little cotton-sticks you can use to clean your ears )

Could this be the big announcement??

Came across this article and it got me thinking. Sprint has a huge announcement to make very soon, and says they are making the impossible possible. My first thought was a glasses free 3D phone. And this just got me really exited for it. HTC wants to be the first to do a 3D phone, the article picture shows an Android phone, and by the coloring its all white and the woman is wearing a yellow scarf. Something Sprint loves to do in tv commercials. Could it possibly be?? Here's the link...

If they implement it properly then yeah, that's one thing. But look at what happened with HDMI. For a while we sacrificed our FPS so they could put a practically useless HDMI port on the phone. I hope there isn't a trade off like that with 3D. I have yet to see a parallax barrier display in person, but from what I have read about it I doubt that won't have a negative effect on how the screen looks with the 3D turned off, which is what i'm worried about. Heck the parallax barrier is a physical lens in front of the screen, how can you turn that off?

That's a good point. I wouldn't want it on all the time, just for show. But again with the 3DS, it suppose to have a on/off switch for the 3D effect so a setting in the phone should be able to do the same.

Yes it does sound interesting. I would be disappointed also if this were to be the device. Just not into any type of tablet, "industry first" or whatever. Not to mention I can't stand anything with any type of hinge to it. Just something else to be problematic and break. I want dual cores, not screens.

If it was done right a 4.x" phone that converts to an 8.x" tab would be cool but I don't see "them"coming up with a good enough solution for coupling them to work as one big screen. If it feels like using a Nintendo DS then I won't be parting with an upgrade for it.
omg, dual screen tablet! hell yeah!
you might not think it would be cool at first but think of the possibilities!
run an app on one screen and browse on another, or be typing out something on one and using the second to show reference material, or have one be the screen and other be a touch keyboard, dungeon defenders on one and IM on the other,
best reason -> xda on one and the other be waiting on that f#@&in 1 min timer for the download websites

Dual-Screen Android Tablet Sprint’s “Big Announcement” for February 7th?
7 Comments 18 January 2011 by Dylan Bailey
Worth Reading?
+3 [3 votes]
Just last week Sprint sent out an email to the press inviting them to a special event where they will release an “Industry First.” The internet went crazy with rumors as to exactly what this industry first could be. Was it a 4G iPhone? Probably not, all Android sites were invited to the event. Now we may have a little bit more information as to exactly what it could be – a dual-screen Android tablet.
According to someone apparently close to the matter, the announcement will be a device and will feature the following:
It has large screens- think somewhere between the Evo and the Galaxy Tab.
It actually has dual screens- there’s a primary one but then also a secondary screen that flips up from the back, like on a hinge.
No word on what that second screen does, if it integrates with the primary screen to give you one big screen, or if you can run an app on each, or what. Sorry I couldn’t get more details.
No official word on if it’s voice-capable, or if it’s some kind of tablet/slate.
Also of note, HTC has been in the headlines supposedly preparing a 3D device. Could this be the device? Two screens for a 3D effect? If so, this would even tie in with the whole David Blaine theme of illusions, eye tricks, etc.
What do you think? Could this be a dual-screen tablet? Would a dual-screen tablet be a viable option in the competitive market? Let us know!

Toshiba and Acer showed off dual screen devices at CES. Neither of them were classified as a tablet (both classified as dual screen laptops) , neither of them run Android, and neither of them have phone capabilities.
I've always dreamed of a phone that folded open (clamshell) with a continuous screen (using flexible AMOLED display) but we are a long way from that.
Ugh, not sure what to make of that. Will wait and hold off the hate until I hear more. Provided it's true.
I'm scared.

Sprint's Kyocera Echo dual-screen Android phone announced, we go hands-on (update)
By Nilay Patel posted Feb 7th 2011 6:30PM
Hands-On
Sprint promised us an "industry first" at its event today, and it certainly delivered: check out the Kyocera Echo, the first dual-screen Android phone. That's right, dual-screen -- that's two 3.5-inch 480 x 800 displays which can be unfolded and used as a single 4.7-inch 960 x 800 surface. The screens are connected by a slick sliding liquid-metal hinge that Kyocera's filed several patents on -- the phone can be closed and used like a regular single-screen phone, unfolded all the way, or propped up into the faux-laptop configuration shown above. Under the hood there's a 1GHz second-gen Snapdragon running Android 2.2 -- we'll forgive the older software because Kyocera had to do extensive customization to add dual-screen support to seven core apps like the browser, email, and messaging. The seven optimized apps can be run on each screen individually so you can have the browser up top and email below, and several of them include useful full-dual-screen views as well. There's also a new dual-screen app manager, which is brought up by tapping the two screens simultaneously. Unfortunately, third party apps can't be run in any of the new modes and just fill the entire display for now -- Kyocera and Sprint say an SDK is coming shortly.

bah, 3.5 inch fail
Sounds pretty cool. Can't wait to see it.
Yea I hope not
from my phone duh
Even tho it doesn't really sound too appealing to me... I am really glad it isn't some form of a tablet. I feel like smartphones are taking a backseat to tablets and I can;t figure out why in the world they are so popular.
I thought Kyocera only made cheap prepaid phones?
Meh. If that's the big announcement I'm underwhelmed.

it's not a real 7 inch, theres gonna be some kind of bezel in the middle and the big gap, things aren't going to transfer across well, and it's kyocera, I haven't seen 1 good product of theirs and I had a kyocera in the past and it was fail
How about crapping on this product after we see it and learn about it's specs?
This is not the announcement... At least I don't think it is.
