locked bootloader ftl.

so true Jez..LOL

If it is locked but runs well out of the box, I could stand to wait until its cracked (if ever). My vibrant on the other hand, would've been immediately returned if not for the devs.
Think of it in terms of cars. If Chevy locked the engine and computer on a corvette so neither could be modified, but it still ran great, would that make it junk or deter a person from buying it? Modders would hate it, everyone else would love it. I just want a phone to run well.

wouldnt u also want a phone to run better?

Of course I'd want it to run better, but haven't you ever heard the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? If it runs like a bat outta hell and doesn't have any major issues, I wont have a problem with a locked down bootloader.
Now if it runs like 2.1 vibrant and HTC didn't give the developers the ability to fix the issues, I'd return it and curse the HTC name.

I think some people might agree with you but not us on xda. We came here to mod and tweak our phones. So... a locked bootloader is gg for us. I'm pretty sure the bootloader would be crackable but it'll just take more time and is a PITA.

G2X or Sensation?

Which one would you choose? The 3.0 sense on the sensation looks so nice, if you have not seen videos of it you should definitely see it. The g2x is stock vanilla froyo, but it will gb soon after launch, also it has the tegra 2 processor and the sensation has tge quallcomm processor. Its very hard for me to choose.

I wouldn't get either. 1gb of internal memory... no thanks HTC.
Once the Evo 3D is available, I'm getting that.
T-Mobiles reception sucks where I moved to, but sprint has 4g available

G2X bootloader is wide open (Cyanogen's next device!), Sensation is locked. So choice is pretty obvious.
I haven't decided yet. I need to see some reviews and "usability benchmarks" (ie: how well the devices respond in general usage). The Vibrant puts down good benchmarks, but fails in everyday usability (it's laggy to respond, even with bionix, voodoo kernels, overclock). I think Samsung's source is to blame; they just can't write good code.

This is a non-issue for me. I'm getting fairly well tired of constantly flashing devices, downtime, **** being broken, waiting for code, etc. I just want a device that works.
Definitely the sensation. Better screen more ram, gingerbread and its one sexy beast of a phone. Since its an htc device then it'll definitely get cyanogenmod

In that case, if you want big, fast, and strongly supported phones, by a Nexus. Sure, the G2x and Sensation are both good, but Nexus phones will always be the ones to last the longest and be supported.

The g2x is pretty much a stock and it has a dual core processor. Also the sensation is a htc phone so that phone will get supported by cyanogen and other devs as well.

Don't get the G2x stock android messed up with Google's stock Android. The only true stock android imo is one in which Google controls updates, otherwise you are at the mercy of your carrier and manufacturer. The G2 has "stock android" and has yet to receive gingerbread.
G2x. For me due to it being stock. Well its either g2x or gs2, more than likely they both wont have locked bootloaders

Yeah but that's why we flash in the first place, to get our phones working the way they should have shipped. Though I understand, I'm slowing down a bit on the constant flashing. I just wouldn't expect a phone that works just the way you want out of the box. Though to answer your question, the G2x seems to have the lasting power, with vanilla Android, Tegra 2, a swift 2.3 update planned, and an unlocked bootloader if/when support is dropped and you decide to flash it to extend its life. However, I've heard some QC issues, bugs with it, not that HTC doesn't have its own problems with that.
Does the g2x have its own forum now? I saw the optimus 2x forums, but I dont know if its for the g2x. I wonder if its already out in europe because there are roms for the phone.

4ton4g

My current gf's upgrade is due and she's elgible for the phone surprisingly! I was considerng dropping my sexy, gorgeous, fantastic, amazing epic 4g on her and taking off with the 4ton4g! I played around with it a bit yesterday at the sprint store and I literally jizzed in my briefs!(false story) I'm strongly considering taking it though! Has any one played around with it as of late? First impressions?

I don't know if I would call the phone 'ugly' but it's certainly different. The screen...well, no one can really compete with Sammy's screen, let's get real here. Locked bootloader = fail IMO. I know, I know, there's an update that supposed to come out and unlock it, but when? Has there been an actual announcement date on it?
I was seriously considering the Photon because of impatience with the SGSII, but knowing the bootloader is in fact locked, and with hope of Nexus 3 coming in a few months, I'm going to skip on the Photon personally.
I hope it's a rockin phone for those that get it, I just won't be one of them.
locked bootloader = fail
I literally just got mine in the mail the ups guy just knocked on the door I'm about to open it up now......gotta love working for a third party sprint dealer. Korey has it and loves it. Unfortunately only way to root right now is having the media dock which is 100 bones but I'll let you guys know tomorrow how I actually feel about the phone.
Gonna miss my keyboard but I'm going to keep my epic for dev/testing purposes.....
I don't know display is really pixelated and lock bootloader sux
I honestly could not buy it. My epic right now runs smoother. Just based on the reveiws the galaxy s2 is much better than the other duel core phones.

Tradeing phone for different phone need opinions

So my aunt offered me a mytouch 4g for a vibrant. Should I do it? And if not what phone should I try to trade for. I love my vibrant but I kinda want a new phone. I switch phones like once every 3 months
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Screw that phone. I wouldn't do it.
If she's willing to propose that trade, that proves she doesn't love you. Lol

Mt4g=180 on craigslist
Vibrant=150(that's being generous)
So if you really switch every three months, the mt4g is worth more to you. Also they're not as bad as people make them out to be.

I had a myTouch 4G before and its a great phone
myTouch 4G has more development plus you have the CHOICE of running Sense which is a really good UI on a well built ROM. That being said, you should read a bit about the good screen / bad screen issue on the myTouch as well as the good EMMC chip / bad chip as well to make sure you get a good model.
What i see Vibrant over it is the super AMOLED, better GPU, and ICS Passion ROM, and myTouch has 4G, camera flash, FFC, and better build quality.
Both phones are good, just determining what trade offs are best for you. good luck

IMHO, if you are going to trade, make sure you are getting something that really will be different. Does it have features you want, what are the differences? Is it an upgrade, or is it just a different phone?
For me I have waited a LONG time since the vibrant came out before I really found a phone worth upgrading to. I want the HTC amaze 4g. Many more features, dual core, ffc, better camera, dedicated camera/video buttons, NFC.. the list goes on. For me it is a phone that will take better advantage of ICS, and should get an official ICS update. The downside is that there isn't a whole lot of development.. yet. But it is a new phone, so that will come in time(and I even hope to make some development offerings once I get one)
So what are you looking for in a new phone, because unless the mytouch 4g has some feature you want that the vibrant doesn't have, you are trading a very solid phone for.. just another phone.

Charging Port broke/Going to the Galaxy Nexus.

I really appreaciate everyone here in the EVO4g thread. Today my EVO lost its charging port, pretty much feel off the motherboard, and will not charge or connect to the computer anymore. I will be going to the Galaxy Nexus come Sunday hopefully. I did the buy up program and will begetting an early upgrade with LTE baby. Will miss DECK, Ropodope, TommyT, MYN and Mik.

What persuaded you to go that route vs. the EVO LTE? I mean, Sense is way toned down with the new 4.0, and seems to not do much but enhance the experience. Just want to point out that I haven't ran a Sense ROM in about 6 months either, but the new version seems nice, and the hardware on the LTE is absolutely sick!
Anyway, I'm asking because I'm in the Nexus vs. EVO LTE vs. GSIII boat right now...

Go check the other evolte threads where scottspa quoted toastch from the twrp thread in the onex forum. HTC has forked up the unlock so badly you cannot flash firmware once unlocked, USB connection is unavailable in recovery mode so you can't flash the boot partition, system partition meaning without and exploit to gain s-off access to the bootloader the htcdev unlock is essentially useless for flashing roms/radios, any kind of p*img.zip, onlyway to flash any kind of upgrades currently is thru an ruu. HTC locking their bootloaders and giving a halfassed unlock method as some kind of joke/tease is why I currently will not purchase another HTC device. I'm not giving my money to a company who claims to support developers by giving them a halfcocked useless tool to unlock what shouldn't be locked in the firstplace. Samsung doesn't lock the bootloader they just implemented a flash count that triggers anytime you flash an unsecured kernel, its easily reset using a USB jig or if you're on ics an app called triangle away by chainfire. Rooting is as simple as running a prerooted firmware thru Odin/heimdall and Samsung is now releasing source prior to the ota and are dropping updates as quickly as they are stable. After I had a Samsung intercept as my first android device Samsung left a bad taste in my mouth and I went to the HTC evo, as if had several HTC winmo phones and liked them. Then I was given an ET4G sprints version of the sgs2 and realized how much of an improvement Samsung has made in the 2 years since I had my intercept. Now HTC goes and forks around with the monkey business of locking the bootloader then giving an unlock method thats about as useful as a broken key to your front door, so now you gotta spend alot of time and effort attempting to break in your own Backdoor with out damaging anything

With gsIII specs released today, it didn't seem all too impressive. Maybe, hopefully, that will cause more devs to stay with HTC, more of them to focus on S-off. I know xhausx has vowed to work on it, that's def encouraging.

Htc lost the bid Samsung has a standing agreement with Google to be the sole producer of nexus for a while coming, because Google doesn't like htcs bull**** anymore than we do HTC said the nexus would ship locked and Google withdrew their contract after Sammy promised to not lock down any of their handsets based on android , plus lte doesn't hit my area til phase 2 rollout this fall so I'm in no hurry to get a new device til I have Lte available

I think you're partially correct and partially incorrect. If my understanding is correct, they have a bootloader unlock, but it only partially unlocks it, making things still difficult for devs to work with. They didn't straight-up lie, but they told a half truth I guess.
