OK so I searched first sorry If I'm duplicating as I found nothing and got the answer on my own!
Ok so i saw many forums on how to get GSM variants of the Tab but nothing for us CDMA (Sprint, Verizon users.)
Subnote: the posting of me are of my own and the views expressed are mine and are not necessarily endorsed or even approved of by my employer.
Step 1: Buy a Tab
Step 2: http://www.sipgate.com sign up for the sipone free program. You will need to know the phone number of your TAB (I know that sprint and probably Verizon too assign Phone numbers to the devices and I know that Sprint has texting including on at least the employee versions of the plan) if you do not have texting you will need your regular mobile device to get a text with a verification code to.
Step 3: get SipDroid from Market
Step 4:Get your username and password for Sipgate servers from http://www.sipgate.com/faq password too by selecting IPhone (i know silly but needed) scroll to the bottom and your info will be in the graphics
Step 5: Enter said info into Username and Password fields. Server =- sipgate.com
I left everything else the same. At this point you should get a green light in the status bar at the top of the screen indicting your good to go.
I have not used a PBXes box as this was and is working for me.
Next go back to the main part of the app. Place the number you want to call in the number field, enter any email and your good to go!
I added my Sipgate number to my Google voice dialing pattern and now someone calls my google voice and I get a ring on my Tab! Works well on wifi have not tried on 3g yet as I just got started
Get sipdroid from its site which enables 3g calling. You should also set up gv callback so that your outgoing is being handled by gv via callback.
I still haven't figured out use for pxbes but everything seems working fine with me for a week now.

I think if you don't use pbx , when you use your tab to call, it would deduct the mins from sipgate which is only 60 free mins for the free account.....at least that's what happened in my case.

Anybody have any luck with using skype to make phone calls on the Archos 70? I have been thinking about switching off my phone data plan and getting a mifi hotspot instead and using my tablet to make phone calls or maybe just getting a cheap feature phone with no data (I rarely make calls).
I have Skype set up on the tablet but they want $16 or so to set up a phone number and the first three months etc and I don't want to put that out if it doesn't work the way I expect. I have been able to install it but without a phone number, I can't use it for much..
You can't use skype with sip providers afaik, so tough luck on that. May want to check about using sipdroid/ipkall?/pbxes/gv instead.
I have played a little with sipdroid and I can connect outside calls using my google voice number but I couldn't figure out how to make the tablet receive incoming calls.
I haven't been able to find a good noob step by step guide to getting it set up.
Instead of skyle, why don't you check an app called gvdialer, you can make free US Canada calls.
You will need google voice, gizmo5 or sip service and sipdroid.
I have been using it and it is working very good.

Sipdroid have some pbxes set up automation which you may want to explore before you do the following. Someone mentioned that pbxes can do google voice callback too (Which I saw was only for premium account, but he said its not.) Do tell if you got that working, which I would love to do (to cut sipsorcery from my chain)
Okay, here's a quick and easy method.
Step1: Register an ipkall number, add it to google voice. If it fail, delete the ipkall number and try again (maybe different ipkall area code) til it want to verify.
Step 2: This is an easy UDP method (but will run your battery out faster): sign up at sip2sip.info, and put in your sip2sip phone number/sip domain name(sip2sip.info) to the ipkall configuration page.
I recommend learning about pbxes and using it instead of sip2sip though. It's more powerful and allow tcp connection (sap less resource). but it never hurt to make it work with sip2sip first.
Step 3: Connect to sip2sip using sipdroid (you really only need the sip2sip.info domain name, sip address, password.
Step 4 (optional): Test by calling your ipkall number and see if it reach your phone
Step 5: Verify your ipkall number through google voice. (Use gizmo or skype or real phone or some tone generator if you need to emulate a proper tone sound)
Step 6: Get one of the available google voice callback dialer, and a dialer app like 'dialer one'.
You should be all set up. If it's not clear enough do mention it. I just wrote it on the spot, so...
I'm going through ipkall -> sipsorcery -> pbxes -> sipdroid right now myself.
Thanks for the info MoonPhatasm. Unfortunately, I am such a noob when it comes to the actual phone capabilities of these devices that I am lost. I have signed up for a sip2sip.info number and an ipkall number. I have google voice and sipdroid installed. Where do I go from here? When I try to add the number to google voice, I get a force close.

I was able to create all the accounts and I finally found an ipkall number that was not rejected by Google voice. Right now, the number appears but it has to be called and a code has to be entered for it to be reclaimed. Since I don't have the phone working yet, I don't know if that is possible.
I have sipdroid installed and I entered the sip2sip.info username, proxy etc into it and the green light appears in the task bar. When I try to make an outgoing call, the screen comes up like it was going to make a call but then the slider automatically goes down and ends the call. I am also not able to connect an incoming call.
I had set up the quick connection between google voice and pbxes within sipdroid and I was able to make outgoing calls. I deleted that information though because I wasn't sure if it was relevant. If I can use it, I wrote it down so I could reenter it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I finally got this to work in the most simple way possible and it is awesome. All you need is sipdroid and the google voice app installed on your phone (and obviously a google voice account).
To set it up:
1. On a computer, open google voice, go to settings --> voice settings and check the checkbox next to Google Chat.
2. Open sipdroid and click on New PBX linked to my google voice (google voice needs to be installed and signed in on the phone)
3. A screen will come up for you to create your account. Your google voice email address should appear on this screen. Just fill in the other information.
4. Click Create
5. After a few minutes, a green dot will appear in the notification bar to indicate that sipdroid is active.
That's all I did.
If you don't have anyone around to call you for testing, you can use this site:

You didn't follow everything.
First of all, the guide I wrote said to install gv callback dialer and dialerone. They're what you use to make outgoing calls. You may have to set the gv callback dialer to always be used for calling, and set your ipkall number there.
Secondly, verifying the ipkall phone number is on step 5, which is to be done AFTER you have the phone incoming call working (Tested by calling the ipkall number using another phone).
But interesting on that google voice/chat thing, and I'll have to check that.

Oops, I was trying to test the outgoing calls without setting up dialerone and then assuming something was broken when I actually had it set up correctly.
Either way, thanks for you help. My new "phone" is working awesome with GV, PBXes, and sipdroid.
Yw, and thanks for making me test out that automated set up again. I was suspecting that sipdroid users gets to make special accounts with google voice set up on the pbxes. It's confirmed now. That google voice peering is normally for paid users only... But for some reason with the automatic set up, we also get it...

If you're using Android 2.2 (Froyo) or greater on a device not listed in the What's New section, you should still be able to enable video calling in Skype settings. Please note that video call quality may not be as good as on a certified device.
On Android 2.2 (Froyo), only the back camera will work. This is because only devices running Android OS 2.3 or higher allow apps to access the front facing camera.
If the setting to enable video calling is not available in the Skype Settings on your device that means video calling is not yet supported on your phone.

I gave it a try with Archos 70, since it has no Rear camera to see, but still no joy. No video support at all.
there must be a way
at least we get the option. My commtiva m600 has 2 cameras but runs 2.1 so skype doesn't support it. We either need a genius developer or patience, I'm sure it won't be long.
The new Skype for android can only access the rear camera. So we would need to re-label it as such. Or Skype would need to recognize only on camera if only one exists regardless of label.
I know how to view hardware on my Archos, but changing the label so apps see it as the "rear" camera..... no clue yet.
Has anyone tried using Gizmo/SIP in conjunction with 'google voice' and 'google voice call back' app? If you have myfaves on tmobile, you can get unlimited free calling using just google voice. However, if you dont have myfaves feature (like me ), there is a complicated or not so complicated workaround which can give u free unlimited calling on 3g.
so who has tried this and how was your experience?

pbxes.org has direct peering with google voice. It's much, much easier to set up now.

You just need google voice installed, then download sipdroid from the market and it pretty much sets everything up automatically from there.
Quick Summary of the directions.
Get a google voice number and install google voice app.
Install sipdroid (free in market)
Run sipdroid and click the link at the bottom that says new PBX linked to my google voice
Verify your google voice account email is correct and enter your google voice password below (yes, you are giving them your password). Enter your pbxes.org password below that (that's creating a new password, so it can be anything).
Click Configure or Save. I don't recall exactly what it says at that step.
You might need to go into google voice->voice settings->phones and make sure you have a google chat account there and that it's enabled for forwarding.
Make and Receive VoIP calls using sipdroid. When you make outbound calls, your google voice number will appear as the caller ID. With inbound calls, as long as you have google talk checked off as a forwarding number in google voice and you have sipdroid running, sipdroid will "ring" and you can answer the call over VoIP.
Call history will appear in Google Voice AND on pbxes.org (even if sipdroid isn't open).
You might also have to check off the 3g option if you want to to work on 3g as well as wifi.
get magicjack and you can run a software hack to get your sip info from your magicjack device, then you have unlimited calls over wifi and 3g for only 20 bucks a year.

Except that MagicJack is garbage.
I have used Gizmo with GV and it works pretty good. Also used Sipgate with GV and that works good as well. That is for people who doesn't have a Gizmo account. Just make sure that all your phonecalls are made with GV when dialing out.
Also you can use Gizmo or Sipgate in conjunction with Sipsorcery, and setup your homephone if you have a PAP2T-NA and you can get rid of your homephone. I think that is where the nice value is.
I beg to differ Magicjack calls were alot better than sipgate.

I've seen them on ebay. But, no point, really if you do it the updated way with GV and Sipdroid app.
Im trying to setup GV with sipdroid. I followed the steps. BUt The notification bar has a messege from sipdroid that says "[email protected]
Registration failed (404 not found)"
I tried making calls with sipdroid but its not working either. Also, the red dot in the notification bar is in red color ...does this mean sipdroid is not active or there is a problem with it?

I think this part makes this not worth it. Apart from your email, it has your Google Checkout which would make it easy for anyone to abuse it for purchases on the web. Even accepting that pbxes.org/sipdroid would never do it, if they get hacked, you are likely to be SOL. Avoidable.
If they could change the process to use OAUTH, it would be a lot safer.

I setup using the instructions posted by lexluthor, outbound calls work when using the sipdroid application, but i don't know if inbound calls are using minutes or not... I set a different ringtone for sipdroid but it rings my default ringer... any thought?

log onto your account on https://www4.pbxes.com/ and click on 'call monitor' on the left. This will show the call log. I hope im right on this.
open your sipdroid app... go to settings > SIP Account > scroll down and check the box next to 'Use 3G'.
Not sure about ringtone... as my set up says 'registration failed'

Thanks for the tip. Yea I'm thinking gizmo5 will be available very soon again for free since the net neutrality laws just got passed. Gonna be interesting since cell phone companies will no longer be able to block competitors, including VOIP and tethering.

Did you try to use your username and password at the pbxes.org website? If that works then check the settings for sipdroid on your phone, the first SIP Account should be filled in with your username-200, the -200 might be different but that's what I have. You can check this number on the website and clicking on Extensions. Also, check the password. It should register.

I have a green icon on the noti bar and it says registed, but when i make a call I get the operator: "Your call cannot be completed as dialed. please try your call again later"
Anyone knows whats going on or how can I fix it?
I resolved this....
Had to go into the pbxes.org site and go into Trunks>GTALK...>and set my real gmail password. I'm kind of wary about this but for free calls I'll do it. Now to delete all my google check out info

Thanks. Everything was set up fine on my end except the user name on SIP line one...where I didn't have the '-200' after my login id. Once I fixed that, I got a green dot and made a couple of test calls and I think its working fine now.
Its horrible that we have to give our google pass to the pbxes website.... to be honest, its kinda scary..I also had to delete all my google checkout info. Hopefully, this safety issue will be addressed soon.
Just a question though: Will my call history and voice mails be saved in Google Talk inbox like it used to be before?
Figured it out: Call history does show up in google voice account.
A caveat: SIP Droid app has to be running to be able to make and receive calls on it. If you exit it, you wouldn't be able to receive or place calls using it.
I will be checking how much battery SipDroid consumes. Post your experiences!!!!
I have been searching for a solution to have visual voicemail (VVM) on my Nexus 4. A lot of you have had success with Google Voice. Some users do not or cannot use the Google Voice option, so here is another solution by using YouMail and it's actually quite easy.
Click on the "phone" icon; click the 3 small squares; click on settings; scroll down to Call forwarding, I entered +13478966996 for Forward when Busy, Forward when unanswered, and Forward when unreachable.
Then login to your youmail account on the browser and have them send you a test to confirm it is working. I hope this helps someone and sorry if this is already on here. I did a search and couldn't find any Google Voice alternatives.

Thank you! I had been searching for a replacement for visual voicemail when I switched to Straight Talk. This app seems to work well so far. Just to be clear, the call forwarding settings that need to be changed are located in the settings for the stock phone/dialer app, not the settings for the phone.

Im using a at&t galaxy note 2 on straight talk and cant get youmail to work, goggle has always worked flawlessly. But I would love to get youmail working.
*Update* I got youmail working, first initall setup had to be on carrier's data, then I switched back to wifi after setup was all completed. Now I have visual voicemail working on pageplus with at&t galaxy note 2.

Edit: Perhaps using the word (Re)activate would clear some confusion. I chose to use 'Activate' since I had been unable to get my existing Google Voice account up and running on my Pixel from day one. These were the steps that I personally used, with Verizon as my carrier, to (Re)activate or "jump start" my existing Google Voice account to run on my Pixel. For me personally, this was the only thing that worked. And at the moment it seems to be working for others as well. As mentioned below, the full setup for Verizon may be different, and the full setup and "reactivation" for lack of a better word, is indeed different for other carriers, could be similar, I honestly don't know.
I'm on Verizon, but this should work for any carrier -
1. Go to Google Voice on PC, click the 'Settings' cog/hamburger icon
2. Under the 'Phones Tab' it will say 'Forwards calls to:' you should see your phone's phone number and under that click 'Edit'.
3. Click 'Show Advanced Settings' still under 'Phones Tab'.
4. Scroll down to 'Forwarding Options' and click 'Activate'.
5. Now you should have a pop-up window with instructions to call your GV number. Mine (Verizon) instructs me to add a *71 in front of my GV number -
*71555-555-5555 - then click send and follow the prompts when your phone rings.
6. Enjoy Google Voicemail again.

In addition to all this, here are some additional steps I had to take in order to get Google Voice to stick. I believe these instructions from this point on are Pixel specific, but please do not quote me on this -
Additional Steps (I took) to get Google Voice up and running on the Pixel (the following steps will be done from your phone)
1. Head to the Phone app, swipe over to Voicemail and approve Visual Voicemail.
2. Then head to GV app and go to Settings and check on Voicemail Display.
3. While still in GV, run through your Sync and Notifications and check what applies to you.
4. Then return to your Phone app (your voicemail may go a little crazy at this point due to syncing, mine does), go to Settings>Calls and turn off Video Calling and Voice Privacy.
5. Then go to your overall phone settings for the phone itself, and tap More>Cellular Network Settings and turn off Advanced Calling.
I think that is everything. If anyone has any additional input at all, that'd be helpful. Come to think of it, a per carrier set of instructions would be nice if anyone would like to help...just throwing this out there, if it already exists, a link would be nice.

I also think there is another number to call to set it up properly on Verizon, so you're missing a step. Finally, this isn't Pixel specific, so it would be better suited in a more general forum, and there is likely another thread that has all this info in it already.

I've been using GV since early 2010, I've used it on all my phones. The Pixel was the first phone I had come across where no matter what I did to try configure it, Verizon VM would hold true, even as far as Google Dialer telling me GV was the voicemail I had chosen, and GV settings was also saying the same. This was Pixel specific and others I had talked to were dealing with the same the thing. Long story short, after several days of trying anything and everything I could think of to get it to work, these were the exact steps I took to make it work and to make it stick. Installing the app didn't work for me, manually configure didn't work, nothing but this worked, and since I noticed a few others dealing with similar issues, I posted this. It doesn't seem to be widespread among all Pixel users, but I knew I wasn't the only one, so if it helps a few people, cool. If it doesn't work, we'll try to figure something else out.
The call forwarding sequence on Verizon isn't Google Voice specific, you could use it to forward to any number.

Please see my response to uicnren as well.
1. This was very Pixel specific for me and the others I had talked to. This was the only phone we had had problems setting up GV on.
2. I should have been more clear, this is for existing accounts, this isn't setting up GV from scratch.
3. These were the exact steps I took.
4. One person I spoke with said he was on Sprint and that the *71 I use for Verizon was indeed a different number, but the same setup nonetheless, I should have been more clear about that.
5. Thanks for input, and in pointing out more clearly that it could be a completely different setup among carriers.
6. And finally, next time something as broad as this could be (again, it wasn't for me, but you make a good point) I will post in a more general area.

However I wasn't trying to convey that, I was just pointing out the steps that I personally used, with Verizon as my carrier to (re)activate or simply get GV to work as my voicemail again for the Pixel. And the reason I said it should work for other carriers is because someone using Sprint used essentially the same method, but with a different "beginning" number added to their GV number. I guess my question to you is, should I have pointed out what you said? If so, why?

I also think there is another number to call to set it up properly on Verizon, so you're missing a step. This is nothing new and tells you how to do it on the Google Voice Site! :angel:
You can also do it from a PC on the Verizon wireless site. My Verizon has a screen to program call forward for busy no answer.
The full setup for Verizon call forwarding to get Google voice working is to dial
*71 your GV number
*90 your GV number
*92 your GV number
This has been the same issue since at least as far back as the Galaxy Nexus.

I had the Galaxy Nexus and didn't have to do this setup. I've had Google Voice since the HTC Droid Eris, and I can tell you that was not how I initially set mine up, I called one number and done. In fact, in the last almost 7 years I've never used the *71 method one time, aside from maybe the initial setup. For what it's worth, all I had to do was click "manually configure", then back out of the phone app, then it would load me directly into google voice and it would begin syncing everything. And that was it, every phone, every time, for 7 years. The *71 deal was completely new to me.
This worked great! I can now get the phone to translate everything to me without even listening to my voicemail!
Only one issue though, I only receive the translation through text message, hangouts and email... How do I get the translation to come up in the actual voicemail app through google stock dialer?? My voicemail's show up but it doesn't translate them?? any clue?? In settings I have Visual Voice enabled also...

This was all Verizon specific.

Great, glad it worked for you! Here you go, this should help out some -
Google Voice settings, check voicemail display, then run through your sync and notifications and check what applies to you. Then return to your phone app, go to settings>calls and turn off video calling and voice privacy. GV will not work with these on. Then, go to your overall settings for phone itself, and click more>cellular network settings and turn off Advanced Calling. I think that is everything.

They are conditional call forwarding,
One is no answer,
One is busy,
One is if the phone is unreachable
If I remember correctly the specific types of call forwarding.

I don't know why I find this so cool, but I do. It's kind of like those secret/hidden numbers you can dial to access even more settings or whatever. Where did you find this? I never knew this existed.

This was all from Google support forums for Google voice originally. Verizon doesn't allow the Google voice app to change the call forwarding settings to automatically set up voicemail, this is just manually changing the same settings.
I've got the numbers saved now so I don't look them up every time I get a new phone.
FYI - Verizon now supports Visual Voicemail on Android 7.1+ for those of you using this as a workaround to get VVM on your Pixel. Functions perfectly with the stock dialer.
