Has anyone tried to restore a backup after hard resetting the phone? If the SD card issues are really solved with the Samsung update, I'd like to yank my 8GB card out and put a 32GB card in there instead. But I'd only do that if I could use the backup Zune made to restore the phone and update it again.

The updates i believe modify the rom.
But the restore feature restores both the flash storage and the ROM to the point of the backup. That's how people were able to roll back from 7390 to 7008.
Don't bother, i just tested my Sandisk 32gb class 2 card and it screwed everything up. I had to re-establish my phone with the Zune software, then i had to sign into my phone again. Now i can't add email accounts to my phone. Tried to revert back to my backup, and now it is not showing. I'm assuming because i had to re-establish my phone with the Zune software. If i revert i will lose homebrew and Unlock, right? Does anybody know how to bring back the backup again in zune? What are my options?
Do you hard reset your phone first and then Zune will show your backup? I'm having problems with my Focus, namely the Proximity Sensor is off and I don't know how to get back on. I figured there would be a selection in the Zune software but I haven't seen it. So could someone explain the restore from backup process? Does it show you what version you have backed up?

Please. I would also like to know.

Is anyone else noticing this? After eventually getting the Sprite backup and restore to work, activesync doesn't recognise my xdaII, and asks me to set up a new partnership. I was rather hoping to avoid all this sort of thing
Haven't run into that, and I've done a few restores. Are you using the latest version? Have you turned off any of the options in the backup software?
I've experienced what you experienced. I had to hard reset cause my xda2 won't sinc with my pc. I used the "exe" backup. I don't know if the normal backup will do fine.
Hope someone can help us.
I use the exe backup option without problem. I use version. V 3.0.0 Build 1517 but just checked their web and version 3.0.1 is available for download
Bully, Carlos,
What are your ROM versions? Mine is ROM ver 1.66WWE. It may be the reason for the bug.
That could be, I'm on 1.72. I'm using Sprite Backup version 3.0.1. I had also done this successfully on my XDA I with Sprite 2.x.
Aside from this problem, another one! After a full backup, sprite backup's soft reset seems to trigger a harrd reset. Luckily it happens right after ive backed up everything, but still a little annoying. Anyone had this?
Never heard of that. Do daily backups and it always just does a soft reset. Are you on the latest version?

I've been using Sprite V3 since before it was released (beta tester) and never experienced this, I do daily scheduled self-extracting (.exe) backups and they always restore fine.
Are you using the latest build of ActiveSync? It could be that rather than Sprite.
Tip: I find it safer to hard reset the device before restoring a backup. Ok, so it can take a couple of minutes longer and you have to reset the clock, but it causes less locked file problems.
Blimey! It's stopped doing it! I think we can probably put it down to operator error.

Nah, it's the same as when the video plays up... damned this works fine when the engineer looks at it!
Glad we could... er... help?
I've had the MARY ROM running on my Orange M700 for 2/3 months now but I expect this problem isn't ROM-related. It's been fairly stable, but occassionally crashes.
It crashed yesterday morning so I turned it off (should have soft rest really but brain was still asleep). When i turned it back on it has done a factory reset!!! Fortunately I have contacts backed up but not everything.
Long shot: is there any way to get it back to how it was?
How can I make sure this never happens again?
Really grateful for any help.
first: you have to setup it manually, but you could buy additional backup software. i recommend spb backup. it has the feature to make backups of the entire internal storage to sd card. i have it configured to make a full backup every night at 4:00 am and it makes backup for the past 7 days. all older backups will be deleted automatically. i test it with hard reset and restoring the backup. you can make .exe for backup, so you don't need install the app for restore. after restore, everything is like before. give it a shot.
second: never trust an electronic device. in short: you can't make sure, that this will never happens again, so use backups for your important data.
OK, thanks for your advice. I had my contacts backed up fortunately but that all-in-one backup sounds really good. I'll look into it...
Hi,
I have an issue with my Galaxy S. While I played with the app "VPNC" suddenly my Phone freezes and the Screen is black. (Donßt think the app is responsible for that)
So I removed the battery and after a reboot the setup wizzard appeared and all my personal data disappeared. Some Contacts, call history, app data, shortcuts, everthing!
Apps are still installed but some crash when I start them. My wallpaper is still there but nothing else on the "desktop".
WTF happend to my phone?
Is there any way to get my data back?
Looks like you wiped the settings playing with app.
Data contacts should be where you backed them up to .
You could look at internal sd card via USB mass storage .
You need a factory reset .
As the dev of the app says .
Warning: You do this on your own risk: when hacking your phone you loose the phones guaranty! If you crash the bootloader by doing this, you are lost: the phone will definitely be broken!!
I warned you...
So first inform yourself carefully about what others did and their experiance by googling around...

Actually I do not think that this app is so dangerous at all because it seemed to be the only Fritz!Box compatible VPN Client and is used by many users afaik.
Maybe I pressed some buttons while the screen was black and did something stupid without seeing what I did?! I don´t know...
However, the data seems to be gone and I have to deal with that.
The good thing is, that I created a titanium backup just a few days ago (Batch --> all apps and settings or so)
The bad thing is, I have never really used this app. Just installed it and made that backup. No restore so far and just the one backup for testing purpose.
Now I don´t want to do anything wrong, so what is the best way to proceed now?
Reset Phone to factory defaults, reinstall titanium and try to recover this ways?
Re-Flash the ROM, reinstall titanium and try to recover that way?
Is there any chance to make a "dump" of my current flash in case i am destroying more than is already destroyed, so that I could get back to the state the phone is in right now?
Is there anything that will not be recovered by titanium, so that I should try to save this before doing the reset?
//EDIT:
I am wondering, how is it possible to wipe all the personal data and configs with just one buggy app? what exactly happened there? Does this make any sense at all and is this behavior a known issue?
Factory reset and use Titanium to back up apps and data but not system settings .
jje
okay thanks, will try that.
Can anyone tell me if there is any chance to backup my phone (flash dump?) as it is right now before I do the reset? If my titanium backup does not work I ḿight have wiped more doing the reset than already is wiped and it would be a good thing if I could get back to state the phone is in right now.
Did the reset + recovery with titanium now. Everything is fine so far except my home screen layout. Is there a way to recover the home screen using titanium?
If not, how can I back up the home screen?
btw: titanium is a really great tool. Will definitly buy the pro version to support this project.
hi guys, would really appreciate your help..
i was trying to fix my nexus 4's problem of unable to sync with google servers so i deleted the data/data/com.android.providers.settings and it indeed fixed the issue.
unfortunatley, after rebooting, i'm now:
- unable to get a lockscreen
- unable to get home button to work
- swipe down settings are gone. and so are notifications
is there another way to restore this other than a factory reset?

Factory reset wil not help, reflash a factory image or custom rom if you are rooted.

He only deleted the data so of course a factory reset will fix it this.
You will probably take ages trying to fix and end up having to wipe anyway. I take it you haven't got a backup of any sort (nandroid/ti backup) etc?

Yup, my bad. So many users wiping the entire sdcard nowadays that i took it wrong and didn`t read correctly
I thought I did but I searched my PC and couldn't find any previously backed up data. So I guess I've no choice but to factory reset and reinstall my data

Hi there! I had had the same problem l33chpda had, but the factory reset fix worked just one time only, today i was about to resell my phone so i wanted to factory reset it, after that i've come across with the problem i had that time, again.
Don't know what to do, i have same issues mentioned by l33chpda, cant get into settings, swipe down settings neither, etc; when try to, phone just do nothing or stays one second and goes back home screen.
I have made nandroid (both clockworkmod and TWRP) of the phone when I bought it, but with online nandroid so i don't have any custom recovery installed.
While checking those nandroid backups, I've discovered the deleted folder backup in the clockworkmod nandroid folder.
Could it be possible to paste it back into "\data\data" folder? should that be the fix? Or I'll have to reflash all even though I dont wanna take that risk because is just that, the other things of the phone are intact and work great.
In case of reflashing, could you tell me about any easy tutorial on how to install clockworkmod recovery?
I own an LG G2 D800, KitKat d80020y rooted with stumproot.
I attempted to upgrade to 64gb micro SD. I use link2sd to add additional internal storage for apps and games. Problem is that my twrp backup is over 8gb and I kept running into errors while trying to restore my twrp backup. So I came here and used someone's "stock" twrp backup. Everything looked fine, although the rom looked slightly different. The most pressing issue was that my Google account refused to sync. Also, there was no contacts app, so I was not able to restore my contacts or even add new contacts. Tried installing KitKat contacts,no bueno. I've decided to factory reset and start from scratch. Will one of you fine people send me the stock rom for the boost Aquos crystal? Unless you guys no of a way I can restore my contacts?
