After going download happy since release day of the MT4G, I've been running out of space to install apps =X.
[Gameloft games take a LOT of space]
I have a lot of games because my little cousins like playing with my phone. I already uninstalled the games and apps we don't use soooo
I was wondering if it's recommended to either move apps to SD Card, or use a script of some sort to install apps to ext.
I have a Patriot class 10 16 GB sd card.
Running nightly build 42.
Move everything you can to the SD card. Problem solved.
P.s. you have lots of stuff. Lol

Lol thanks. I was just curious if it was better to install it on ext partition or normal sd card partition
Yeah, my little cousins went crazy on downloading haha.
[Good thing they didn't download paid apps ]
Make sure you delete your text messages. Those add up really quick and are usually the culprit in not having enough memory.
haha i NEVER delete texts xD i 12,036 texts in total in my phone haha

Alternatively you can back up your texts (if you need them) to the sd card using one of the many apps in the market. I like SMS backup & restore. You can back up the texts & then delete them from your internal memory to free up space. Common knowledge I know, but might help a noob somewhere...
get a bigger sd card and put all of your games on it.

Storage memory or RAM???
Any emails or SMS's you get should also be stored on the sd card. Also, use an explorer app to check your device, usually apps you have installed actually install to the device instead of sd card like you wanted, Tomtom was a good example of this. Just copy these problem apps to the sd card but don't forget to delete the old shortcut and make a new one so they still work.
Try to get rid of those ringtones sometimes supplied in the roms as these are a waste of space, especially if you are gonna use an MP3 as a ringtone.I did find, however, that you do need to have the message tones stored in windows directory on the device, just can't seem to find them on the sd card.
If its RAM, then there are apps using it. Try to get an app killer so it frees up some ram when you finish using them.
Just a few things you might like to check.
Cheers...

Guys i love my xperia play, but the 200mb of internal storage really isnt enough for me, seen as though most of us are rooted and have busybox installed, is it not possible to get an apps2sd+ script working on our devices? or will we have to wait for custom roms that have init.d support?? anyone have any ideas

Couldnt you just go in settings then application and move any apps to the sd card?
The PLAY has built in apps2sd
Only 30% of the apps can be moved to the sd card, using androids move to sd function, apps2sd+ moves the whole /data/app/ directory and the DC. Take asphalt 6 and lets golf 2 for example both thoes games are 40mb and cannot be moved, thats half my internal storage gone with 2 games lol copilot is 30mb adobe air is 20mb ..... all of these would take a few mbs each with apps2sd+

You can use the Android SDK to enable SetInstallLocation2, then everything will natively install to your SD

What is the best way to force apps to Sd on 2.3.3 rooted play? I've tried to find an app or process that's easy to do ad hoc but not found any easy way yet
I use apps2SD. Titanium Backup does the job but somehow my SD card got corrupted after rebooting my phone. I had to format and start over.

Where can I get apps2sd - or rather who is it by if its on the market. I've had a search on the market and theres a few with similar names in there, but none that look like one the forces apps to the sd card, only ones that alert you when apps can be moved to sd.
If its not on the market, can you link to it at all please?

Try link2sd, it works diffrently to other app2sd apps, you will need to make an ext partition on your sd card though
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&hl=en
I'm using app2sd, and it works great for most apps, however there are many apps that the program just wont allow you to move. I'm on an R800x via Verizon. Like I said I cant move the bloatware and some other apps but I'd say 50% of the apps I DL will move to my SD... I've only got about 100mb so I'm hoping a root or an alternative way to remove bloatware surfaces soon.

Ashphalt can be moved to the sd card using Titanium backup (free) not sure about lets golf but any gameloft game i have intsalled can be moved to sd by Titanium and they still work fine for me. (Ashphalt is now like 500kb not 30mb)
If you have Titanium backup (paid version) you can try converting the app to a user app and then move it to the sd and see if there are any problems with the app. I dont have the paid version but i have seen people have moved the pre-installed games onto the sd card with this method.
I know this is probably not the answer you are seeking but it will gain you some more mb's

Fire up adb and use the pm setInstallLocation 2 command, nearly every app can be moved to the sd card then, including all the gameloft games
Yes i know. But its pain when widgets e.t.c are installed to the sd so i dont use setInstallLocation 2 anymore too lazy to move them lol . I was just merely replying to the Ashphalt cannot be moved post

I use the apps2sd pro app, it lets you move apps to and from /data/ with just a long press, you can even set an ignore list
I just got my Epic 4G and while I did find the way you can move SOME apps to the sd card once they are installed, I was wondering if there was any way to install/move ALL the applications to the microsd card either normally or after the phone is rooted???
Why?
Fill up the space on your phone first. That's what it is for.
Read speeds are going to be much faster coming from the phone space than the SD card.
Additionally, you won't have to wait forever while the media scanner scans all your apps before you can start using them.
If u rooted get titanium back up pro and it can almost do all the apps on the sd
If you are rooted, you can install this app which will allow you to move the majority of apps to the SD card. Some of them you can't (like launchers, for example) and any with widgets you shouldn't because the widgets won't work.
I'm an ex-Tilt 2-Windows Mobile 6.5 user, so if my phone memory got used up, the phone ran SUPER slow...so I had to keep programs stored ENTIRELY on the sd card, keep my txt msgs to a minimum, otherwise the phone started to CRAWL...is that not true for Android?
Well the question you asked is possible. The app is called move2sd enabler and root is required.
Argh, beatin by a typer...

Maybe if you fill it to the brink.
Leave ~100 megs for cache. As long as you are not getting any warnings from android about it being to full, then it isn't going to slow down.
If he's asking about backing up EVERYTHING, that's a nandroid backup.
I also wonder if this is a misunderstanding of the concept of app to sd. I know the definition for apps that won't move is service apps right?
I know some stuff wont work because of widgets but when you boot if your card is too full, it takes longer and that is frustrating, well at least to me.
I've run out of app storage space on my phone. Its given me a low storage space warning and wont let me install anything else until I remove something.
I use apps 2 sd pro which was the free app on amazon a long time ago. It is telling me that I have 39.04MB available out of 498.38MB total on my phone. I have moved every possible app that will let me to my sd card. The are 40 apps that are left on my phone though that can not be moved and are the standard things I always use and dont want to get rid of. Things like maps, market, music, flash, etc.
I've added up the size of all of the apps installed to the phone storage and it comes to about 162MB. How are 162MB's of apps taking up 498MB of space. Where did the other 336MB go?

Epic will raise "Low memory" warning when phone has less then 50Mb of free memory.
Clearing the cache for some programs will make it go away.
Open Samsung program manager and it has all stats for available memory on the last two tabs.
The other 336 MB is the operating system and system apps.

I thought the phone had 1GB of ROM though. And that about 500MB of it was for the OS, and the other 500MB was for apps. Is this not how it is? Is it only 500MB of ROM and I only get about 160MB for apps after the OS takes the rest of the space?
The Galaxy II has the 1G, we get 512MB.

If you are using a froyo rom, you can install an app called move2sd enabler, follow the instructions and it will make more apps able to be moved to the sd card, rescan with apps2sd and it will do the rest.
I wonder the same thing. I moved all my apps to the SD card using Titanium Backup, but still running low on space on the internal memory. So the question is what is taking up the memory? If you look at a app in Manage applications you see the storage breakdown. Total,Applications,Data,Cache, and their respective sizes. Here is the deal, you can move your applications to the sd card but the data stays on the internal memory. The data is all your preferences for the app like saves for a game or bookmarks in a browser, things like that. To find more room on internal memory find a cache cleaner in the market. Delete Pictures on your messaging they too are stored in internal memory. Hope this is helps

There is no option to install apps on your sd card with Titanium. It only backs up a copy of your apps. You need to go into Settings>applications>manage applications and click on every app and move them to sd/usb storage that allows you (not greyed out).
Titanium has a batch option to move all apps2sd or internal memory.

Thanks,
I didnt know about the batch option to move to apps2sd, i just did it one at a time.(long press on the app in Titanium brings up the option) Just remember don't put apps that use widgets on SDcard.
I would be careful using titanium to move apps to the sd card. Some apps just can't be moved to sd card, widget apps will break if not in internal memory, and a lot of system apps can't be moved from the system side of the rom. Titanium doesn't care it will move everything if you tell it to weather it breaks it or not. Just saying use care if using titanum to do this.
I'd start with settings, applications, manage, then the sd option at top. Move everything you can that way first before going to other options to move apps.
Also if you use a particular app often it will run faster if left in phone memory then off the sd card.
Use adb or terminal emulator and check /data/log for dmp files. I've had to clean up several times and did the trick.

I thought I had a lot of apps...still haven't ran out of room on the epic. But I do have to say I don't have many games.
you can save some space by using the option in Titanium Backup to merge updates for system apps.
I have this same problem too. I deleted a lot of unused Apps and moved any others to SD. I do not have the option to clear cache from any App. I even deleted all my messages and entire call log and still says internal memory is full. When I add up all my Apps memory its less than 150MB. Its really annoying. Out of curioiousity what ROM is everybody with this promblem running?

Hi all
I am running CM7.1 with LauncherPro.
Thanks to my kids and google's recent $.10 app deals I now have about 200 apps/games on my phone and I ran out of space on my internal so I was using Titanium Backup to move apps to SD in batches of 25-30 apps. I had no problems until the last batch I did. Now the phone freezes up within 5 minutes of booting up and I have to keep popping the battery to reboot.
I figure one of the apps in that last batch has issues being moved to SD. So I want to try just moving them back. Problem is, it doesn't stay usable long enough to get back into TB and move them. Also, I'm not sure which app it is I have to move back. I tried popping out the SD card and putting it in my PC to look at .android_secure and I can see the most recent batch of apps simply by sorting by modified date. The batch I ran was for 29 apps, but this shows only 23 apps. I tried deleting those 23 asec files, but the phone is still freezing after a few minutes up.
I really, really want to avoid going back to a previous nandroid backup because I only make them once a month and the last one was 11/24 and I have made sooo many tweaks and changes since then.
Please help. Is there a log file for TB batches maybe that can help me figure out which is the problem app? Or does it sound like it might be something else?
I'm going through the same problem myself; hoping that pushing this thread back to the top will get a reply from someone.
I didn't realize until reading this that all the moving apps to the sd card which I've done lately may have caused all my recent freezing. I've also lost the homescreen icons on several of my apps.
Is there a rule about what kind of apps shouldn't be put on an sd card?
Do you have the list of apps you moved in the last batch?
Can you post it here?
I know you must not move widget on sdcard. It's a start
Sent from my HTC Panache / CM7 using xda premium.
No widgets, no services. If any of those are moved to SD card - they won't function in the best case, and they'll make all kinds of phone weirdness in the worst case.
Bump!
This happens to me too on my galaxy s2 stock rom using my 32gb sdcard which has no issues in itself.. and i never moved apps like widgets and live wallpapers, only games with big size like angry birds etc. i dont know what can be causing this, coz without moving those apps i cant install new ones, n if i move em i cant use my phone at all what should i do ?
Yeah, not all widgets work with the app on the SD card.

widgets live wallpapers and launchers aren't meant to be moved in the first place. but still i'm having issues and i dont understand why. and now that i've moved just a few apps to see what happens, this time it doesn't reboot but the media scanning starts late after the phone boots up.. and untill it actually starts scanning you cannot make a call or use the internet.. any ideas anyone! ?
