[Q] RoyalGinger 1.5 Contacts not appearing as dialing - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently started using royalginger 1.5 (awesome) but for some reason the contacts from my phone book do not appear as I start typing their number. On the stock ROM I could just type first two letters of someones name and they number would pop up top where I can just click on it without having to dial the entire number.
Please help.

Just answered this in another thread for you but that's cause stock Rom is just a variation of sense and gingerbread is what your on which is a completely different UI so if you want that back flash RoyalGlacier or some other stock-ish Rom.

Phone Status wrong number

I just flashed to Cyanogen and my phone status screen is showing the wrong phone number. How do I change this? I had the number changed on my Evo a few weeks ago and the rep had me type some numbers into the dialer but I guess the settings dont stay after a flash.
bump to the top
No one knows how to change this at all?
Search for EPST

Thanks, Ive found alot of info but none of it helps me. I installed EPST 2.1 and it still doenst respond to ##778# or ##775#. I can get to the phone info settings where the SMSC can be changed and it shows my incorrect phone number on that screen but wont allow me to change it.

First do a nan backup then flash a sense Rom, this is The only way the above codes will work, I think. I think you can change it in *#*3282#*#
You will need the msl number to edit it. Just call and ask sprint for it (I think its called msl)

There's also an app in the Market for MSL.

What dialer are you using? Newbie needs some suggestions

Not sure if this changes in 2.2, but the stock dialer is horrid compared to HTC, it isn't the worst thing in the world, but I am surprised there aren't more dialers available. I was wondering what people use for a dialer, do you usually download a 3rd party app? Use a dev-made dialer?
Just have not had this so long, I would love to just hear the responses.
Thanks so much in advance (and can we stick this to 2.1? The dialer may change in 2.2 but I have stuck with 2.1)
Dialer in 2.2 is not any better. In fact it logs your sms as call logs so for somone like me who goes through 6000 ( literary) texts a month it becomes annoying. I'm using "diar one". Its fast and has a lot more cutomization options. Give it a shot. It's free on the market.

My rom disables this. Can I ask? What don't you guys like about it?
cd's or tapes?
Hi. What rom r u running? I'm on dk28 and my text logs show up in my call logs. I can switch to missed or dialed calls through the setting but that is not the friendliest way. I liked the stock one but since I went to 2.2 the daler anoyed me a bit.

I am on 2.1 on the Quantum ROM but I am 99% sure it is the stock dialer, maybe colored differently.
What I don't like about it is that when you start typing someone's name in the htc dialer, i.e. you start typing "aro" it will pull up "aron" and other names with "aro" in it or the numbers in it, and you can scroll down through the names.
With this dialer, if you are trying to say call David, you may need to type "DAVID" before it actually shows up because when you hit "D,A,V" you can't scroll through them all, it gives you ONE suggestion.
Maybe it's just personal preference, I just wish I knew how to update the .apk better, a 3rd party sounds a little iffy.
Try FastDialer. It is fast and pretty complex.

On your stock dialer start typinyg D A V then to the right of where u r typing an arrow should appear (righ above the "3 DEF" button) click that arrow and you should have a list of names that contain D A V or the associated numbers. That's assuming yu have other names or numbers that are similar to D A V. Let me know if it worked. Thx.

I like "Dialer One" a lot. It's free on the market and has all the features I expect from a good dialer.

How to cause the Phone pad to search last names match

Hello
When I use the phone pad and start typing a contact name instead of number, the phone finds the contacts that their firs name match the typed values. In my HTC HD it does the same but also on the Last Name and even on the email address if present in the contact.
Is this a setting issue in the Galaxy S / Android or a limitation of the implementation?
Thanks
Ophir
Please anyone?
Good question. I think it's just the way Samsung made the dialer app.
Try to change the sort order in contacts/settings/display**.

You can use another dialer, for instance "Dialer One" is capable of that (although it is not as good looking as the stock dialer to me)

One small favor

I am planning to buy HTC MyTouch 4G soon.
Before that I want to ensure the following.
Is it possible to enter numbers in dialer using the optical track ball by moving the cursor?
I used to enter numbers using the direction keys in a Huawei mobile phone i had.
Entering numbers in touch screen may be superior but i have special needs to be eyes free on the phone while working.
Thats why
Your findings would be the deciding factors for me so please help me.

Just tried on my wifes phone which is stock 2.2.1 and you are unable to use the trackpad to select numbers. Conversely, I am using faux123's aosp rom and you can use the trackpad to select numbers and make the call. Only thing is when you open up the dialer, it opens on your call log first, so you have to scroll to the left for the dialer and then down...you may want to stick to a physical keyboard to ensure accuracy though...

While you working, are you ok to use voice commands? MyTouch has Genius button, that seems to work nice for me.
Long press button, Say "Call *name*" and it works.

Thank you very much for your quick reply.
So you are able to select numbers via vanilla Android Dialer and are not able select numbers via HTC Sense dialer using the optical trackball.
Am i right ?
Once again i sincerely appreciate your efforts.

Actually my problem lies in dialing phone numbers not already stored in my mobile phone's address book.
I use Cyberion Voice Speed Dial to dial phone numbers that are already stored in the mobile phone.

Try to say a 11 or 10 digit number and check it's accuracy.
Like 08026783377 Or 09475635452.

Mytouch...
Hey, did you know that there is a Mytouch Slide that is out now on the tmobile website that has a full slide out keyboard...I think that would be the way to go
Actually I hold and use mobile phones single handedly.
so slide out keyboards are not comfortable for me

[Q] Phone app strange behavior!

Hi,
I have a strange problem that persists regardless of the fact that I did a couple of factory resets:
when I open the phone app and I want to call a contact I just used to type the corresponding keys of the first letters of his/her name and the number would soon appear right below the number line. Now this doesn't happen anymore!! When I dial the keys I only get the number and no contact suggestion.
Any ...suggestion on how to solve this issue?
Thanks
Luca
That isn't an issue.. Stock android doesn't have a predictive dialer. You have to flash a ROM or a different phone app to have that. No amount of factory resets will give you that.

Hi and thanks for your reply Josh.
I thought it did and then it stopped, but I must have confused it with the CM10 I had on my previous phone (only the day before yesterday I got the new Nexus!) as they look exactly the same.
Thanks again and ciao.
Luca
PS flashed me the CM 10.1 and solved the issue
