What dialer are you using? Newbie needs some suggestions - Epic 4G General

Not sure if this changes in 2.2, but the stock dialer is horrid compared to HTC, it isn't the worst thing in the world, but I am surprised there aren't more dialers available. I was wondering what people use for a dialer, do you usually download a 3rd party app? Use a dev-made dialer?
Just have not had this so long, I would love to just hear the responses.
Thanks so much in advance (and can we stick this to 2.1? The dialer may change in 2.2 but I have stuck with 2.1)

Dialer in 2.2 is not any better. In fact it logs your sms as call logs so for somone like me who goes through 6000 ( literary) texts a month it becomes annoying. I'm using "diar one". Its fast and has a lot more cutomization options. Give it a shot. It's free on the market.

My rom disables this. Can I ask? What don't you guys like about it?
cd's or tapes?

Hi. What rom r u running? I'm on dk28 and my text logs show up in my call logs. I can switch to missed or dialed calls through the setting but that is not the friendliest way. I liked the stock one but since I went to 2.2 the daler anoyed me a bit.

I am on 2.1 on the Quantum ROM but I am 99% sure it is the stock dialer, maybe colored differently.
What I don't like about it is that when you start typing someone's name in the htc dialer, i.e. you start typing "aro" it will pull up "aron" and other names with "aro" in it or the numbers in it, and you can scroll down through the names.
With this dialer, if you are trying to say call David, you may need to type "DAVID" before it actually shows up because when you hit "D,A,V" you can't scroll through them all, it gives you ONE suggestion.
Maybe it's just personal preference, I just wish I knew how to update the .apk better, a 3rd party sounds a little iffy.

Try FastDialer. It is fast and pretty complex.

On your stock dialer start typinyg D A V then to the right of where u r typing an arrow should appear (righ above the "3 DEF" button) click that arrow and you should have a list of names that contain D A V or the associated numbers. That's assuming yu have other names or numbers that are similar to D A V. Let me know if it worked. Thx.

I like "Dialer One" a lot. It's free on the market and has all the features I expect from a good dialer.

[request] Stock Android Dialer for 2.1

Would it be possible for anyone to post the stock android dialer found on Nexus One?
Thx.
Hopefully the right one.
I think thats the HTC dialer isnt it?
Nope, It's from a Nexus dump i believe.
Blue phone icon, same as Nexus.
Thx, will try later.
Sadly, it doesn't work. It says phone.android.com not found.
You just wanna have the Icon? Serach for "SMS unread count" App in the Market. It has the icons for gmail sms and phone + widget support witht he little iphone like counters etc. you know?
Its a good App!
greets
That is the 2.1 update1 stock phone/dialer app from Nexus. I doubt you can install it to a stock ROM, maybe even a mod ROM.
Like nodq said, if you just want the icon, use something from the market.

I don't need the icon, this would be pretty silly, I wanted to use the dialer, because I like it better than the Sense one. I know DailerOne is similar, but still to confusing, with all the swyping gestures.
Ahh, then I think the only way to get that is either play around with the file and make it compatible, or flash a ROM with it.
Don't like DialerOne either, its too much effort just to find contacts.

Voice dialer

The stock voice dialer is useless. Is there one that works pretty well?

What is wrong with the stock one? It seems to do everything I need it to do. It would be easier to make a suggestion if we know what you are looking for.
I think it works great.
hmm well if it was running all the time maybe, but having to click it each time, say what you want, then press it when it pops up is a bit dumb, is there a way for it to activate automatically after you say open a program, instead of just bringing a menu up on the screen for you to actually press ?

suggestions for dialer?

Hi,
I'm running CM7 at the moment. Does anyone has a suggestion for a good dialer?
Patrick
Dialer one is okay

Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
@lukyjay:
I've reviewed this thread and it seems like a legitimate request for a Dialer application which is typically classified as a Theme/App - no action taken.
dialer one is ok
dialer2 is better
Whenever i'm on a stock rom i use Youlu.
atakephone is a very good dialer. in my opinion way better than dialer one or 2 or even the htc dialer.
its not for free but very cheap (~1,50€)
if you come from sense use dialer2
it rocks
dialer one
After trying DialerOne for a long time and now using Dialer2 (which is pretty, but very slow) I still find that they're both inferior to the Sense dialer :/. I wish the "stock" CM dialer were better, as right now I feel stuck with a slow dialer due to needing the search capabilities of Sense-like dialers.
Also, DialerOne didn't display contact images in call history despite displaying them fine in the contacts list.
I downloaded yesterday "atakephone", haven't yet tested it fully, but it really looks promising. Worth a try.

youlu is very nice, or dialer one if you want something less pretty and more basic.
If only there was an "old fashioned" phone dialer app where you rotate the wheel until you get to the number and repeat for each digit.

How to cause the Phone pad to search last names match

Hello
When I use the phone pad and start typing a contact name instead of number, the phone finds the contacts that their firs name match the typed values. In my HTC HD it does the same but also on the Last Name and even on the email address if present in the contact.
Is this a setting issue in the Galaxy S / Android or a limitation of the implementation?
Thanks
Ophir
Please anyone?
Good question. I think it's just the way Samsung made the dialer app.
Try to change the sort order in contacts/settings/display**.

You can use another dialer, for instance "Dialer One" is capable of that (although it is not as good looking as the stock dialer to me)

Newbie Questions

Hello everyone,
I have had the Nexus 4 for a few months and am for the most part happy with it. I am not a power user by any means, but the pure android experience has been very helpful to me. I just started a new career which required a lot of traveling to different locations and scheduling and the calendar and navigation have been like a godsend for me. The notetaking apps like keep are great too. Like having your own personal assistant.
There are few things I still struggle with, particually on the phone end. I tranferred my contacts over from a blackberry, I think google did this automatically. It takes me a while to scroll down to a contact(voice recog does not work great for names) - is there a "better" way to set-up your contacts for easier acess or to enhance voice dialing? I feel it takes me much longer to find a contact than to set the navigation system to a new location. Anyone find a good solution for this?
Thanks,
Rick
Hello... I'm new here too... After using a blackberry I missed the name search here on Nexus.. The stock dialer in my opinion is ****.. Try exdialer..

Start dialing the contact name on the dial pad, this might only be a feature on custom ROMs though. If you drag the list on the right, it should scroll faster, going by letter instead of one contact at a time. This should work on stock.
You can search for a contact. Also you can add favorites for faster access to them

What he said. You can search for a contact in the Phone app by name.
