Thinking of Returning Phone - Atrix 4G General

So I have the Atrix (rooted on 1.26, the used a script before upgrading to keep root on 1.57). I am thinking of returning it to the store (I am within my 30 day time limit). So I am just looking to wipe my data off of it. Should I unroot the device first? Think the store will care / be able to tell? Just mainly concerned about my personal data being wiped.
A [Settings - Privacy - Factory Data Reset] should suffice right?

Yeah you could unroot and they might not know/care. If you want to be absolutely sure they won't know, you could flash it with rsdlite. That will wipe everything.

What to do to reset my phone - newb question

OK, I've been having miscellaneous and very annoying problems with my phone ever since I updated to 2.2 OTA (I wasn't rooted before, I am now as of just a few days ago, and still running stock 2.2), so I want to wipe the phone to get it back to "factory" 2.2 and start over. I've already backed up my installed apps using Titanium, and I also installed AppBrain, so it should (if I understood the product description correctly) be able to download any non-purchased apps as well.
My question is, should I just do a Factory Data Reset (settings, privacy, factory data reset), or should I do something else in place of or in addition to that?
Ok if you have not done any flashing of any roms then I would unroot via however you rooted and do a full data cache wipe and factory reset ....if you have flashed roms or just want to be safe you can always reflash the sbf using these links and instructions

Thanks, I actually just bit the bullet earlier today and did a factory reset. Some of my widgets didn't reload correctly for some reason, so it took me a while to try to remember what each of them actually were...but other than that, after I re-rooted and restored everything via Titanium Backup, it seems to be working OK. Hopefully the various problems I was having before the reset won't come back!
Well since most of your problems were more than likely 2.2 related then they may come back but let's hope not .....maybe you should look into a good asop rom or.some of the others and you will more than likely experience far less problems if you go with a nicely built rom

Downgrade to 4.3 from 4.4.2 (or Root)

Hey guys,
So I recently updated to KitKat 4.4.2 from 4.3 whatever, and it's been really nice. However, my battery length plummeted, and w/o root, I do not know what to do. So, I'm asking to see if anyone knows how to either root the XT926 or downgrade to 4.3?
Thanks
Neither are possible.
Even with an unlocked bootloader, you would you never get to 4.3 because 4.3 was never released for this phone.
As for battery, when you updated to Kit Kat, did you do so with all your apps installed, etc and not do a Factory Data Reset?
I would really encourage users to do the following before taking the OTA:
Backup whatever data you can to your PC or external SD card (pictures, etc). If you are rooted (and have an unlocked bootloader), then use a tool such as Titanium Backup to backup your apps and their settings. If you're not rooted and/or have a locked bootloader, then you won't be able to retain your app settings with TiBu. Sorry. That's the glory of having root I guess.
Do a factory data reset BEFORE taking the upgrade. This will wipe out your user data completely, including application data.
Apply the OTA and profit.
I have found my battery life is just as good, if not better, than under JB. People who are having issues with Wifi, Blue Tooth, battery life, usually have not done a FDR on their phones, so you have old cache sitting around, etc, that bogs down the phone as well as causes a host of issues.
The same holds true when upgrading Windows on your PC (for those that use Windows). I always backup user profiles and then I go and do a complete fresh install. There is so much gunk that gets left behind that it's just best to wipe the slate clean and start anew. The same goes for upgrading the OS on your mobile phones, especially when going from JB to KK.
KK is much better than JB, especially on this phone. No way I go back to JB. No way, no how. :good:

To be clear, you can restore apps with TiBu without root? Because root = bye bye after OTA, I've only used TiBu with root..Thx
Edit, reading on Motopocalypse now, very helpful thread pages 3 4 5
No soup for you without root

I did a factory reset after I upgraded, doesn't that do the same thing?

[Q] Back up an app's data still useable if I revert from Lollipop to KitKat?

Tl;dr version: The big question in my mind is: If I backup and app and its data from Lollipop, when I restore it to KitKat will it work fine?
The full story:
My wife's Nexus 7 got the Lollipop OTA a little while back and has been having a terrible time with the lag, etc. We've done all the suggested fixes short of doing a factory reset, which I want to try but have a problem to overcome....
My wife has a game which she has played for many many months which doesn't sync game progress to the cloud anywhere... Her sisters are quite competitive and constantly compare their each other's progress in this game.
She is having a miserable time with the Lollipop update, but wants this game data SO BAD that she is willing to suffer through the lag to keep it... but its driving me nuts...
I have a plan to move forward, but want to see if I can get some confirmation that my plan *should* work. I unlocked the bootloader on it in the past. it has since lost root, but I should be able to get it rooted again without hassle and without wiping data (correct?).
Plan A - Factory Reset Lollipop:
I should then be able to use either Titanium Backup or maybe Helium to back up that app's data. In fact, I may skip rooting and just use Helium with the desktop companion app. Then pull those backups to the cloud or onto the pc. Then do a factory reset on the device. Push back over the app's data backup then restore it. Does that plan seem correct? I've done similar in the past so I don't think I'll run into issues.
Plan B - Revert back to KitKat:
This is my secondary plan, and the one I have the most questions about...
After doing the above, if the tablet is still laggy, I'd like to revert it back to a factory image for KitKat since she was fine with that version until they release some bug fixes, etc. for lollipop. If I backup and app and its data from Lollipop, when I restore it to KitKat will it work fine? My concern is the difference between ART and Dalvik, etc. etc. I've seen a few places that talk about using backups when moving 'forward', but can't find a good answer on moving 'backward'.
Thanks,
Zeustopher

Update and Root.

Okay, so this is a silly and weird question, I have recently rooted my phone, an S4 GT I9505, and due to certain circumstances (buying an S6 on a sudden whim cuz of a great offer) I want to unroot my S4, now, I wanted to back up my data so I am using the Samsung Smart Switch program on my PC, and it says there is an update for my phone, so I was wondering if I do that update, will it unroot my phone? Also are there any risks of losing my data in the process? Thanks for help in advance ^_^

1. You can backup your data only copying internal/external memory to your pc.
2. The best way for unroot your device is booting to your recovery, wipe data/factory reset your device (will delete all your internal data) and wipe cache partition. Boot in DOWNLOAD MODE and flash the new update directly via ODIN.

Can't I just use the unroot function in SuperSU? I have no intention of rerooting this phone.
The unroot function of SuperSU should work fine, rather than going through Odin. The next person who acquires your S4 will likely end up doing what I did and start from scratch anyway.

How would you wipe any possible malware from your phone?

Hi
I've got a 2nd hand nexus 6p. I would like to be completely sure it has no keylogger, no remote control app (cerberus style), etc.
A factory reset would be enough? What should I do?
Best regards

i would go to twrp and wipe data, cache, dalvik, and system then reflash the rom and gapps if needed and you will be fine
Flash the latest factory image
When you boot,
If no message displayed a factory reset is sufficient.
If yellow message (unlikely), then you sideload the most recent OTA + factory reset
If orange message then flash factory image. If you need extreme security (against publicly unknown vulnerability), you relock but that will *brick* your device unless the factory flash worked (which you can never be sure of). Don't relock if you are scared of malware.
For maximum security, throw out the phone
Or put it in a Safe! Better yet in a Force Field!
If orange I think you need to delete system and image partition then install rom.
I had virus like issues kept just reflashing would have issues a month later.
So I decided to just delete everything learned how to out the phone into download mode and did fresh install of pure Nexus and gapps runs like new again my battery will last 17 hrs of use now before I was getting barley 12 with little use.
