and that we have a fixed focus lens, even now video isn't that good same as photos.
x8 cant record in hd and neither play vids of hd quality .
Video recording is 640 by 480 pixels only. Using 3gp file extension.
Audio is not good.
SE Yari has a better video recording quality btw.

Just wondering what resolution the camera captures video at? Still 320x240 or is it any better?

352x288 in MPEG4
Thats a pity, had an Acer WM device for a bit that took VGA video, anything less isn't really worth editing on a PC.
Thanks for the info

ORiginal desire got the ability to record 720p videos . Even iPhone 3gs which was able to record vga video was able to record in 720p after a work around.will it be possible on desire HD to record full hd 1080p videos with any kind of work around

I'm not a techie but 720p usually means 1280 by 720 pixels where 1080p means 1920 by 1080 pixels. It's quite a jump between those values and even with a workaround that quality could be poop
the sensor won't be better with any change
It will just use more space from the sdcard
The sensor is capable of recording 1080p, but the processor is not capable of encoding in full hd. So no - it's not possible.

i agree, the sensor is the same size so the image will just be stretched and more space used for the same image quality

Nope, if the processor was capable of encoding 1080p, the video won't be just an upsampled version of the 720p video. It would be a true 1080. It's not the sensor alone that's responsible for the video quality - there are the lenses and the hardware encoding. And these (especialy the lenses) have the negative impact on our video recording IMO.
If not full HD then least some workaround to improve the current state. Audio really suck and video I dark most of the times. Really disappointed with the video quality on desire HD

Htc have always had ****ty cameras. If you wanted a camera phone the dhd isn't the best option.

Someone Swyped my idea.
to be able to record in 1080p would be great enhance but I bet changing from stock sd card is required it seems. class to won't do good with 1080p recording. correct me if I'm wrong
I wouldn't have thought a Class 2 card would anywhere near fast enough for full HD.
would you really notice the difference from 720p to 1080p if shot through the same lens?

Not with these lenses
the lens is capable enough to record 1080p,its the processor issue, because the new galaxy s2 has 8mpixel camera aswell and is capable of recording in full hd 1080p,so i was wondering,if i overclock my cpu to 1.2ghz,which i already done, will there be a solution?

Galaxy S2 has a dual core CPU.
We would need that, if we ever manage to capture in 1080p it would just be a slideshow because the CPU cant keep up.
A bit late to this party, the last post was about six months old.

What format and resolution should I convert to for the xperia arc to play videos?
I have some cartoon shows in wmv format and I want to play them on the xperia. The specs for xperia arc is - 854x480 pixels - 4.2" 16,777,216 colour TFT.
I currently have an htc eris android and it only plays 3gp by default. So should I convert to 3gp for xperia arc as well? I'm too cheap to buy any video players from the market.
I think an mp4 should be sufficient. That's the resolution that will support on the arc
the panel is a a40p, but with the LED subanel, we have better resolution, the diference seeing a 720p video to a 480p is really great... about format, mp4 and m4k are the only ones that work to this moment
If you buy DicePlayer, you can use MKVs.

MKV only in 720p? Why not 1080p? Is this software issue or hardware isn't able to playback so high resolution??
my phone can play 1080p which I take from youtube with my default media player
you can play 1080, but the density of the screen is only a 480, the 720p`video is to "duplicate" the quality displayed but i think is a waste to play 1080 video

I was thinking more about playing 1080p using HDMI cable and HD LCD TV

I understand, but the hdmi support is enchanced to the info of the screen, you only can output 720p quality, or that is what say the specs, you can try and tell us it is working, that would.be aweome

I had connected by Arc on an Full HD monitor and it only outs 720p when I watched some TV series (the video source is MKV and is at 480p rendered via software via MX Player). In this regard, I think the HDMI capability of Arc is only to 720p. That means even if you have an 1080p video on Arc, it will out only at 720p via the HDMI. I will confirm this limitation once I got the chance.
In the service menu in HDMI settings the highest choice given is 720 so it does appear to be that way
Is it possible to record HD video on the Tattoo? The iPod touch 4 has a 0.7mp camera and records 720p. The Htc Tatto has a 3mp camera and records at really low resolution. Clearly 0.7mp<3mp. I really don't know about HD recording in detail, so you could enlighten me on why the Tattoo can't record Hd. Sorry if this is a noob question.
It is a noob question but can someone answer? Please ...

I dont think the sensor is capable of capturing smooth motion at such a high resolution, smooth motion requires 25fps which the tattoo is incapable of at 720p

Thanks for your answer! So that means the recording hd depends on the camera hardware and the tattoo cannot do that....
I wish the tattoo at least could be as good as the legend
I there any way to record video @60 fps? Or to step down from full HD to 720p? I mean, I'd much rather have 720p @60fps instead of full HD @30fps. Having a full HD video recording on such small sensor and lens is like having 12+Mpix, total overkill (and quality goes down).

I had a sony camcorder that did 60fps at 720p and 30fps and the 60fps was so smooth against 30fps, it would be great to have 60fps on the s2! the video on the s2 has always been so choppy plus its not even a true 30fps ( Samsung lies about this )

You can try 720p @60fps with lgcamera app from market, i know it has this option in settings but im not sure if it is possible without modified kernel on GNote.
