did this after flashing 1.5.7 stock. Did not do a thing since the flash and it worked. I have not tried the exe, but the apk WILL DEFINITELY WIPE YOUR INTERNAL SDCARD.

Just did it and it worked great!!!

z4root not working

i have been reading the noob root guide and have a problem. with 2.10 hboot installed, when i log in to shell, command for super user i get permission denied.the phone never showed anything on the screen. titanium backup shows not rooted.so at this point i think z4 root is not working.any ideas?
Did you take the 3.70 OTA update?
Last I checked, z4 doesn't work on the evo. There are other methods that work for the evo.

yes.
i hav been fallowing the noob root guide.
Well there you have it. It seems 3.70 patches the exploit that z4root was using to get access to root. AFAIK, there are no new exploits that can be used for root access on 3.70 so you'll have to wait.
you need to hit TEMPORARY root on z4root. make sure you are using the 1.3.0 version of z4root, because none of the earlier ones have temporary root. the temp root feature definitely works on evo. it is just a few simple lines of coding. not too difficult for an app.

Yes I do.wish it was that easy.
thank you mroneeyedboh for proving my point. either you got a bad download or it is a user error (no offense intended)
maybe it did and you hit no by accident... hmm maybe run rUU and then try it again?
i am just waiting to see how all this gets sorted out...

did you ever figure out your radios? I figured out my issues with bad 4g.. I had to deroot my phone then reroot. So from day one I had 4g, I rooted and didnt check on sprint lovers rom if I had 4g. then I flashed fresh and didnt check until later and noticed no 4g... so then I flashed myns and nope.. but Istill had my RSAs and MACs...
so then I derooted and then rerooted. 4g from stock, 4g after root, 4g on sprint lovers and 4g on myns.

ruu is a program for pc that flashes over most partitions with the stock sprint unrooted rom. it is ALMOST the whole process of unrooting and is considered 'starting over'. google is your friend on these sort of things.

I am on 3.70, and like the Hulk have had issues getting z4root to work. After about 15 attempts, reinstalling the program, clearing data, etc. I got the program to work one time and did a Titanium backup of a few apps. Since then, I have been unable to get it to work again. Something in the process also rendered several of the apps that I moved to the SD card inoperable. I imagine a factory reset or RUU might do the trick, but I haven't taken those steps yet.

A software update is available for your phone...

Hey all,
I just connected my Play to my PC and its saying there is a software update ready to be installed to the phone, how do you find the change log or details of what is in the update? I can't find any information about it!?
My Play is rooted, what do I do?
Thanks
depends on the method you used, if it was gingerbrick carry on, if youve unlocked your bootloader leave it alone, run away, duck and cover!
Yep as Waz said.
Don't update it if you've rooted your phone. Possible brick scenario.
Wait for the geniuses to release some custom roms instead.

I used gingerbreak, so is it safe to update via SE update? do I lose my root? do I just run gingerbreak again after updating?
And finally, what about my apps and saved data etc? do they get deleted with an update?

Could you perhaps find the blob folder, zip the files, probably 3 files, and upload the zip? Then we can create ftf file for flashtool, for others that unlocked bootloader

Can't update OTA to GB

Was z4 rooted then unrooted to upgrade to GB.
I'm running the stock rom right now. OTA update downloaded just fine. The phone resets like it's suppose to then half way through the update an exclamation point appears and it stops then boots normal.
After everything is loaded a box says, "Update Failed".
How can I manually update? I'm not really into the rooting thing. I called verizon and 3 different people said that there is no software update for the Droid X.
I figured if I had to tell THEM about the update that I wasn't gonna get anywhere with them.
Thanks
System information
2.3.340.mb810
android version
2.2.1
Just trying to do the OTA. Keeps failing. I dunnno wtf.

I've got a similar issue. OTA update failed (I un-rooted but didn't flash).
I then used RSD lite to flash the sbf back to 2.3.320. When I check for system updates it tells me there aren't any.
Do I just wait a day or so until my phone recognizes the update and downloads it or is there something else I'll have to do?

You need to be on 2.3.340, I think.

If you unrooted, you need to SBF back to 340. I used Z4 root/unroot like many others and it just wouldn't update, same as you, it downloaded but about 25% through it failed.
If anyone here needs SBF instructions, send me a pm and I will show you a great site to help you out

Yeah, he was referring to lamarrk's post. For you, SBF'ing back to .340 should do it. Some updates have failed in the past if the phone was ever rooted, since unrooting it apparently doesn't completely remove all traces of the rooting.
Awesome. Still at work. Crap.

That's why I have RSD Lite and everything else configured at home as well as work.

phone rebooted back to stock

my phone rebooted the other day back into stock 2.3.4 grj22
now im trying to find root access again but i cant.
the phone is unlocked but it will not let me run flash clockwork or even flash super user.....
has this happened to anyone or can anyone tell me how to root it again please
thanks
I believe this happened to me also, had used 1 click root. Didn't do it right the 1st time. Second time it stuck. Long story short, try using the root method you used to to root again. If that doesn't work check out 1 click root, make sure you read up on it. Its pretty much automated , but a user like myself might be dislexic and mess it up . Make any backups nessesary before hand.

[Q] Root Question

I had my phone rooted with towel root and the only thing I did was fix the hot spot provisioning so I can use Foxfi. I did a factory reset last night, and the weird thing is, I still have root and Foxfi still works. I figured that when I did the factory reset, I would have to reroot and fix the hot spot again.
I guess, I am wondering why that happened? It's good actually, saved me a half hour of work. But was that because I used the factory reset in the settings rather than through a reboot?
Please educate me. LOL

After you root, the phone stays rooted, simples as that.
To unroot you have to flash stock rom I guess, till then, the phone will continue rooted.
If you want to send to warranty, you have to unroot and go stock.

I dont believe a factory reset will unroot the phone. It will remove the superuser app, but the exploit will still be there. To completely unroot, you need to flash you variants tot/kdz file using the LG flash tool. That will delete and replace all files in every partition and show that your phone is unrooted. It will be exactly as it was when you opened the box.

Yeah I don't have SU right now, just need root for foxfi. And I've read about the process to return to stock, I thought that was necessary for the other root methods.

you should be able to download supersu from the play store and root for apps should be restored without having to return to stock.
